The man who died when a small jet crashed on a Texas highway was an entrepreneur well-known in the state for being at the center of Austin's turbocharged evolution as a technology hub.
Joshua Baer, 50, described himself as an "Austinpreneur," a reference to the state capital and his enthusiasm for getting people into business. He founded Capital Factory, which has grown into an important Austin-based venture capital firm supporting a range of technology startup companies, from robots to autonomous ships.
Baer's LinkedIn page shows him wearing a black T-shirt and pointing at the message: "I help people quit jobs." His email had a similar handle. Capital Factory's downtown headquarters is among the offices of tech giants like Google.
"Whether you're in technology or not, there's a hole in the heart of Austin today," Thom Singer, CEO of the Austin Technology Council, which promotes the local tech industry, said of Baer's death.
Baer listed his life strategy as, "Plant lots of seeds. Water everyone's. Repeat." And people noticed: The Austin mayor in 2023 gave him a key to the city, a symbol of civic honor.

The 2026 NBA draft is right around the corner. Only a handful of days remain until teams across the league get a chance to add youth to their rosters during the two-day event. By the end of it, we've officially returned to square one as everybody is optimistic about their short-term and long-term futures.
The Oklahoma City Thunder will get a chance to add some fresh faces to their rotation. The ***** le contender enters with three premium picks — No. 12 via the LA Clippers; No. 17 via the Philadelphia 76ers; No. 37 via the Dallas Mavericks.
To prepare for the 2026 NBA draft, let's look at five second-round options the Thunder could add to their group. Of course, the second day is the fun one, where draft boards are all over the place:
Jefferson played in four collegiate seasons. His first two year Saint Mary's and his last two at Iowa State. At the latter, he cemented himself as their top scorer. He averaged 16.4 points on 47.1% shooting, 7.4 rebounds and 4.8 ***** ists. He also shot 34.5% from 3 on 3.1 attempts. The 22-year-old is a 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward.
Jefferson has an inside-dependent scoring game. Not a whole lot of shooting exists with him. Still, he ***** ped his way around the paint. That helped him get 6.1 free-throw attempts at the college level last year. He has an old-school build that revolves around finesse and smart decision-making. At this point, he's maxed out his physical tools. Don't expect him to be an athletic freak who jumps out of the gym.

Caitlin Clark garnered a lot of attention when she arrived at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday. The WNBA superstar was all smiles in her all-white outfit and held her first signature shoes in her right hand.
Clark wore a white, long-sleeved cropped hoodie. It had “Shoot more threes” in blue across the center of the chest. She paired it with matching oversized, high-waisted white sweatpants with a relaxed, baggy fit. The Indiana Fever superstar completed her look with white sneakers with tan accents on the outsoles.
MORE: Caitlin Clark suffers major drop in WNBA All-Star voting
The Fever posted a photo and clip of her during her tunnel walk on X. It has since been viewed almost 80,000 times and received a lot of comments from fans.
Clark and Indiana are looking to extend their winning streak to five games. However, it won’t be easy as Angel Reese and the Atlanta stand in their way.

Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason is one of the more coveted restricted free agents this offseason, with many teams searching for defense on the perimeter. For that reason, Houston may have competition in re-signing the LSU product after he averaged 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals on 35.8% from 3-point range.
Recently, NBA insider John Hollinger revealed a prediction for Eason's value this summer. Hollinger estimated that his next contract would be worth $75 million over three seasons. Hollinger also expressed belief that Houston would re-sign Eason, saying, "One presumes the Rockets would match reasonable offer sheets given their mostly manageable cap sheet."
However, this does open the door for a non-contender with more cap ***** e to put pressure on the Rockets by signing Eason to a much more lucrative offer sheet.

Jeremy Renner was in a serious snowplow accident in 2023 that was near-fatal. And yet, the actor has since gone back to work on Mayor of Kingstown (which is expected to return on the 2026 TV schedule), done a movie and put out a memoir detailing his rehabilitation after the incident. He's made the bounce back from 38 broken bones and tissue damage look easy from the outside in, but in a new interview, he got honest about the fallout of the accident.
Back in January, Renner marked three years since the accident by joking about it, but it sounds like the experience continues to ricochet through his life and has given the 55-year-old a whole new perspective. In his words:
I mean, I'll be in recovery for the rest of my life. I think it goes beyond acting. I almost didn't want to go back into acting because I had to focus so much on real life. Nonfiction kind of stuff. To go into fiction was a little difficult, but I'm glad I'm back doing it.
Renner's recovery has been an extremely inspiring one. Just three months after he was run over by his seven-ton snowplow on his property in Nevada, he began to walk again – first with the ****** istance of an anti-gravity treadmill. A year after the event, he returned to work on Mayor of Kingstown and even did some of his own stunts on the crime thriller.

It's been less than a week since the New York Knicks won the 2025-26 NBA championship, and the team, its fans, and the city of New York are still experiencing ultimate bliss.
When you snap a championship drought of 53 years, the members of the roster will each go down in history in one way or another, but this Knicks team in particular has captured the hearts of the city in a way that we may not see for a long time.
What was it about this year's iteration of the Knicks that made them so special? And how were they able to pull off what fans felt was impossible to do for so long?
Knicks ****** istant coach Rick Brunson, father of Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, told SiriusXM's Frank Isola and Brian Scalabrine just what it was that made this Knicks team so incredible.

Jordyn Woods brought her "lucky bag" out one more time — and New York loved every second of it.
The fashion entrepreneur showed up to the Knicks championship parade on June 18 dressed head to toe in custom gear, with her now-iconic orange clutch firmly in hand. The internet could not get enough.
Jordyn Woods has become one of the most talked-about figures of the entire 2026 NBA season. Her bag, her outfits, and her unwavering courtside presence have made her a story all on their own.
Woods arrived at the Knicks victory parade rocking a full custom ensemble. She paired Towns' No. 32 jersey with a Knicks hat and white jeans that read "Mrs. Towns" across the back.
The orange mini clutch from her brand, Woods by Jordyn, was once again strapped across her body. The bag, which had been courtside for every Knicks playoff game, had already sold out following the championship win.

To prepare for the 2026 NBA draft, let's look at three of the most polarizing prospects who the Thunder could get at the No. 12 spot. Opinions are all over the place on their potential fit in OKC:
Ament is one of the more polarizing prospects in this year's class. He had a fine year at Tennessee. He averaged 16.7 points on 39.9% shooting, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 **** ists. He shot 33.3% from 3 on 3.9 attempts. Again, nothing crazy. But also, nothing super impressive. The 19-year-old is a 6-foot-10, 207-pound forward. You're banking on the physical tools to help him carve out an NBA role, but depending a lot on imagination right now.
The common buzzword used to describe Ament is 'project.' That's not something Thunder fans want to hear at this point in their contending window. The shooting splits aren't really great, as he was an inefficient scorer at the SEC level. He also wasn't a great outside shooter, which is another red flag for translatable skills at the next level. No other skill set really pops off for him right now.

Alarm bells immediately rang on the pitch because of a devastating challenge from ***** im Madibo.
This brutal tackle would not only completely rule Ismael Koné out for the remainder of the 2026 World Cup, but would also bring his footballing year to an end.
Bad news for Canada, as they await official confirmation from the player’s medical report.

After Caitlin Clark and Nike finally shared a look at her highly-anticipated Caitlin 1 shoes on Wednesday, the two-time WNBA All-Star is debuting her Nike signature shoes tonight as the Indiana Fever (9-5) host the Atlanta Dream (9-4) from Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
When asked which of the many hidden details throughout the pair of shoes is her favorite, the former Hawkeye legend pointed to the "C" pattern on the left shoe and the "2" pattern on the right as a clever, yet subtle intricacy she enjoys.
"I think the fact that the outside part is C's and the inside part is 2's, but you can only tell it close up," Clark said.
As she sports the kicks for the first time in action, Clark looks to propel Indiana to a fifth straight victory tonight against Atlanta as the two teams clash for the first of a back-to-back home-and-home series.

De’Aaron Fox is expected to remain the San Antonio Spurs’ starting point guard next season, which shouldn’t come as a huge shock. Even though they fell short against the New York Knicks in five games, Fox’s impact on their playoff run was clear. Reaching the NBA Finals isn’t a small achievement.
The conversation around Fox hasn’t quietened down, though. The focus has shifted from questions about his fit with Victor Wembanyama to whether he can be the second star on a ****** le-winning team.
For much of the regular season, Fox fit seamlessly into what the Spurs were building. His pace lifted their transition game, his playmaking opened up ****** e for Wembanyama, and his leadership helped accelerate a rebuild that seemed ahead of schedule. Throughout the playoffs, Wembanyama was clearly carrying San Antonio’s ****** le hopes, while Fox struggled to make a consistent impact offensively. The numbers told a difficult story.
He shot around 34 per cent from the floor in that series and managed under 13 points per game. His struggles were most evident in Game 5, where he finished with just seven points as New York wrapped up the ****** le. That performance raised questions about whether he can truly be Wembanyama’s top running mate when it matters most.

The Philadelphia 76ers and new President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey will have plenty of players to look over and evaluate as they continue their prep for the 2026 NBA draft. Luckily for the Sixers, Gansey has experience running the draft during his days with the Cleveland Cavaliers so this isn't anything new.
Gansey has a knack for finding diamond-in-the-rough type of players. He was instrumental in the additions of unheralded players such as Dean Wade, Craig Porter Jr., and Nae'Qwan Tomlin, who all made impacts for the Cavs in 2025-26. It will be on Gansey and the front office now to find a player at No. 22 who can help the Sixers right away in an effort to dethrone the defending champion New York Knicks.
To give one an idea of what the Sixers can expect at No. 22, here are the previous five players who were selected at this position:
Career stats: 6.5 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 1.4 apg, 40.2% FG, 28% 3FG
Career stats: 3.7 ppg,1.4 rpg, 0.6 apg, 0.2 bpg, 50.8% FG (25 career games due to injury)

Eight-year WNBA veteran Gabby Williams has signed a multiyear contract with Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 women’s basketball league announced on Thursday.
Williams, 29, did not play with Unrivaled for the league’s first two seasons while she played with Fenerbahçe SK in FIBA EuroLeague Women in 2025 and 2026. During the past two seasons with Fenerbahçe, Williams earned first-team and second-team All-EuroLeague honors and was twice named Defensive Player of the Year.
This season is Williams’ first with the Golden State Valkyries after she played the past four years with the Seattle Storm. She is currently averaging a career-high 16.3 points and shooting 38% on 82 3-point attempts.
Last season, the 5-foot-11 forward registered 99 steals, tying for the second-most for a season in WNBA history (and finishing one behind the record set in 1998 by Teresa Witherspoon). She finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting behind co-winners Alanna Smith and A’ja Wilson.
Williams was originally the 2018 first-round pick of the Chicago Sky (No. 4 overall) out of UConn. She played three years for the Sky before missing the 2021 season while playing for the French Olympic team. Chicago suspended her for being unavailable and traded her to the Los Angeles Sparks. However, due to her suspension, she never played there and was traded before the 2022 season to the Storm.

Fox (FOX) just made the biggest move of its post-Disney era, agreeing to buy Roku for roughly $22 billion.
But the stock fell sharply the day the deal landed and kept sliding the next session, pushing Fox shares to a fresh 52-week low.
Now one of Wall Street's most followed **** ysts has weighed in, and her verdict gives cautious shareholders something to watch.
Bank of America Securities **** yst Jessica Reif Ehrlich kept her sell rating on Fox and nudged her price target up to $54, as reported by TipRanks.
Ehrlich's target tells investors what to watch. It sits just above where Fox's more widely traded Class A shares closed and above the battered Class B stock, making this a verdict on the absence of near-term catalysts, not a call for more downside.

Detroit Pistons team president Trajan Langdon addressed his expectations for the offseason, less than a week before the 2026 NBA Draft.
The Pistons will have the No. 21 overall pick when the first round of the draft takes place Tuesday, June 23. Free agency will kick off on June 30, where the Pistons have plenty of business to figure out with the restricted free agency of Jalen Duren, the unrestricted free agency of Tobias Harris and much more.
Langdon held a predraft press conference at the team's practice facility in midtown on Thursday. Here's what he had to say.
OPINION: How Trajan Langdon can earn 'A' grade, crush Pistons offseason
Thanks to February's three-team trade that landed a pick swap with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Pistons moved up from the No. 28 overall pick to No. 21 in the draft. Langdon said he anticipates the Pistons will either stay at 21 or move up to nab the player they want, and doesn't think they'll move down or out of the draft altogether. They don't have a second-rounder.

Yesterday, news broke unexpectedly that Liverpool were close to signing Osasuna winger Victor Muñoz. Less than 24 hours later that deal has been completed, but everyone knows the Reds aren’t done signing attacking reinforcements—and everyone knows Yan Diomande is their top target.
Now things could be starting to move awfully quickly on that front, too. While Liverpool were announcing the capture of Muñoz, The Athletic’s David Ornstein was reporting that they were ready to pay as much as €100M to sign Diomande. In just about the time it took to read that sentence, news broke that Liverpool had in fact made such a bid.
The offer, believed to be €90M guaranteed plus €10M in add-ons, was in turn revealed to have been rejected almost immediately. That isn’t expected to be the end of it, though, with an improved second bid expected.
Based on how things have developed both with Diomande and Muñoz over the past 24 hours, we wouldn’t be entirely surprised if by the time you’ve read this an improved bid has been made—or been rejected, or Liverpool have moved on to a Plan B, or perhaps even fully completed the signing.
Diomande’s other main suitor this summer has been Paris Saint-Germain, but with three star wingers already on the books there in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué, and Bradley Barcola there hardly seems a pressing need for the Parisians to sign another €100M winger. If they did, it would also almost certainly mean a departure of one of the trio already on their books.

New Yorkers celebrated the Knicks' championship on nearly every available surface along the parade route in Lower Manhattan.
Climbing on delivery trucks, hanging off lampposts, standing on the roofs of newsstands, clinging to the concrete pillars of City Hall, and filling up courtyards and sidewalks, thousands of exuberant fans packed streets to party.
The parade was the culmination of weeks of electric energy across the city that grew during the Knicks NBA Finals run - the excitement finally bubbling over when the team won the championship on Saturday for the first time in 53 years.
"The vibes are absolutely amazing. This is just unreal," said parade-goer and 19-year-old college student Daniel Nemesure.
Parade-goers told the BBC they were thrilled to be part of the festivities - with many taking the day off from work.

Tyler Kolek may play for NBA champions the New York Knicks, but he wasn’t recognizable to NYPD officers during a Thursday celebration.
ESPN reporter Kimberley A. Martin shared video of Kolek high-fiving and celebrating with fans gathered in New York City to celebrate the Knicks’ historic championship victory. The New York team beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games, which included an explosive comeback in Game 4 where the Knicks made up for a 29-point deficit.
In the video of Kolek, 25, multiple officers stop him and remove him from the crowd as Kolek appears to be explaining that he’s on the team. The officers simply believed he was a fan getting too excited (he was holding a Michelob Ultra while getting the crowd fired up). Kolek has had plenty of court time, though he did not play in the NBA Finals games, which may have led to some of the confusion.
Kolek, a guard, played in more than 60 regular-season games and eight postseason games.

The Los Angeles Lakers are about to begin what could turn out to be a very consequential offseason. They're projected to have tens of millions of dollars of salary cap ******* e, as well as two future first-round draft picks to offer in a trade, and those resources could allow them to start to truly build a championship-caliber team around Luka Doncic.
Los Angeles will also have the No. 25 pick in next week's NBA draft. They have been working out prospects in this year's draft class, including William Kyle III, a big man from Syracuse University.
According to Jake Fischer, the Lakers are one of a number of teams that are interested in Kyle.
"Our final second-round note: Syracuse’s William Kyle III has had enough positive feedback after visiting with 11 teams that he’s shutting down his pre-draft circuit and declining five additional workout invitations," Fischer wrote. "Among the clubs said to have interest in Kyle: Both Finals teams — New York and San Antonio — as well as Oklahoma City, Boston and the Lakers."
At 6-foot-9 and 230 pounds, Kyle is a big man who can run the floor, and he has an impressive wingspan of 7-foot-3 and an outstanding vertical leap of 44 inches. He projects to be a rim-running big man who can convert easy baskets off lob passes, which is exactly the type of player who thrives alongside Luka Doncic.

While the New York Knicks were the center of attention at their NBA championship parade on Thursday, it was Mayor Zohran Mamdani who stole the show.

During those eight minutes, Mamdani touched on many of the topics New York fans wanted to hear before handing off the microphone. Of everyone who spoke Thursday, Mamdani had the most time and arguably the biggest impact.

Caitlin Clark vs. Angel Reese beef history, explained: What WNBA rivals have said since 2023 NCAA championship originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark have gone from the faces of women's college basketball to the spotlight of the WNBA.
Both catapulted to stardom during the 2023 national championship game, which saw Reese and LSU claim their first national ******* le against Clark and the Hawkeyes. That game drew a bigger audience than ever before, averaging 9.9 million viewers and peaking at 12.6 million.
And every one of those viewers bore witness to Reese and Clark's fierce competitiveness.
Their respectful rivalry has not cooled off since then. They faced off again in the 2024 Elite Eight, where Clark's Hawkeyes got revenge on Reese's Tigers. It has carried into their respective WNBA careers, where both young stars have remained in the spotlight with constant media coverage.

The Los Angeles Lakers have a ton of moving parts, but the biggest unknown for the team is actually a player who has gone under the radar during his time in LA.
Forward Rui Hachimura has been a relatively unsung hero for the Lakers, typically raising his level in the postseason and providing consistently solid forward play during the regular season.
Look no further than his 2025 postseason, where he averaged 17.5 points on 56.8% from deep. With a shorthanded squad, he kept them afloat with his timely three-point shooting.
However, Hachimura is now a free agent, hitting the open market after an offseason and a playoff run that showcased the most valuable skills in the modern NBA — 3-point shooting and solid defense.
And for the Lakers, his performance could not have come at a worse time, considering they already have so many free agents and the money will run out quickly if they try to hold on to everyone.

Olivia Miles' rookie season hasn't just been "good" or "great."
It has been historic.
Miles already can be considered a shoo-in to win the Rookie of the Year award, but the Minnesota Lynx's budding star also has thrown herself into the WNBA MVP race one-third of the way through the 2026 season.

The New York Police Department is apparently unfamiliar with Tyler Kolek's work.
During the parade to celebrate the New York Knicks' NBA championship on June 18, police officers tried to corral Kolek, thinking that the 6-foot-2 guard was probably just a rowdy fan.
Sure, the former Marquette star didn't appear in the NBA Finals as the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games. But he played in 62 games this season, including a breakout performance in a nationally televised matchup on Christmas Day and also had another big game as the Knicks won the NBA Emirates Cup.
Plus, Kolek was a two-time All-American in college with the Golden Eagles. He's also became something of a fashion icon over the course of the playoffs.
"I swear I'm on the team bro," Kolek posted on social media while sharing video of the incident.
