Marcus Thompson: Eventually, like after this year, they have to make some decisions about what to do with that spot. But I think Steph, at the end of his career, he's going to want to say, 'I spent 20 years or whatever with the same franchise like Kobe Bryant.' And he'll be more proud to say that than he would if he went somewhere else. Because if he goes somewhere else and doesn't win a ***** le and gave that up, that would be tough. Now, if he goes to a place that is almost a lock to win the ***** le, maybe you do that. But then if he goes to a place and it's a lock to win the ***** le, will he actually get credit? Or will people say, 'Ah, he just had to go team up with this person.' I think Steph cares about all that stuff and he's going to do the thing that's best for his legacy.

The useful part of these matchup conversations is figuring out which players outside the obvious tier have a chance to outkick their ranking and give you more than the market is pricing in. That's what we're looking at here.
Every player on this list sits outside the top 10 at his position in both Yahoo Sports' Week 1 half-PPR consensus rankings and FantasyPros' half-PPR Expert Consensus Rankings. From there, I'm looking at the matchup and the higher-end outcomes from my projection model.
Join a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL season
The boom and nuke percentages come from my simulation model. Boom thresholds are 27 points for quarterbacks, 24 for running backs and wide receivers and 20 for tight ends. Nuke thresholds are 35, 33, 34 and 28, respectively.

UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley has landed his first big recruit of the 2027 class.
Five-star prospect NaVarro Bowman Jr. has committed to UConn, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter reported on Thursday. Bowman is the son of former San Francisco 49ers all-pro linebacker NaVarro Bowman Sr. and is UConn's first commit in this class.
Bowman is the top ranked player in California, per 247 Sports. He chose UConn over the likes of Texas and Arizona.
A Southern California native, Bowman has been a standout at Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks high school. Last season, he averaged 22.5 points, five **** ists and 4.9 rebounds per game.
In 2024, he led the Knights to the CIF SoCal Open Division finals where they eventually fell to a Brayden Burries-led Roosevelt High.

After a whirlwind offseason and preseason, the San Francisco 49ers got some much-needed good news going into Week 1 of the NFL season.
Nick Bosa will play against NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams in Thursday's season opener in Melbourne, Australia, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris told reporters Monday, Sept. 8. The All-Pro edge rusher tore his right ACL in Week 3 last season and began doing individual drills during training camp in July but was soon sidelined again with tendinitis. He continued to rehab in recent weeks and returned to practice on Sept. 2. He progressed enough in his rehab to travel with the Niners to Melbourne, but his status remained unclear.
That was until Morris addressed the media on Monday night in no uncertain terms.
"Oh, he's going out there," Morris said. "Whatever you want to say, he's going. He'll be there. We're not hiding that."
Bosa took the field for practice in full uniform on Monday with a brace on his right knee. A few other key players on the injury report – tight end George Kittle, wide receiver Mike Evans and running back Christian McCaffrey – were all reportedly fully dressed as well.

There are days when you know you are witnessing something special.
That was Sunday at the Italian Grand Prix.
Kimi Antonelli, starting down in P19 Sunday at Monday due to a change in his power unit, rocketed his way through the field not just to take a podium finish, but to win outright and take a huge step forward towards winning his first Formula 1 Drivers' Championship.
His performance at Monza makes it seem like if he indeed wins a ***** le this season, it will not be his last.
Antonelli carved his way through the field, working up to P12 for an early restart after a huge shunt from Charles Leclerc brought out a red flag on the third lap of the race. By Lap 9 Antonelli was up into sixth place.

Are we really doing this all over again?
Atlético Madrid's desperately poor 3-0 loss to Athletic Club in at San Mamés brought up familiar ghosts from seasons gone by, leaving fans questioning if anything has actually changed ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League trip to Anfield.
A lack of intensity away from home and a vulnerable left side saw Atleti rue missed chances in the first half, before completely capitulating immediately from the restart in the second.
Here are Into the Calderón's key takeaways from this first loss of the 2026/27 season.
Atleti are making me sound like a broken record with no other ways of **** ysing one of their matches at this point. For the best part of two seasons, I have been using the **** ogy of a pool table on uneven ground to describe the way that the entirety of the team's play seems to gently drift over the right side of the pitch, and it's getting tiring.

Penn State football finally kicks off for the 2026 season this weekend and there is a lot to be excited about. The program is gaining momentum as a College Football Playoff contender in the first year under new head coach Matt Campbell thanks to a relatively light schedule.
That favorable 12-game slate opens with a matchup against Marshall, a team that the Nittany Lions haven't faced in nearly a century. Fans of the team likely don't keep track of what's going on with Thundering Herd football, so we did the work of scoring the opposition for them.
After doing the research, the most dangerous player on the offensive side of the ball appears to be quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson. None of his passing stats jump off the screen with 2,047 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. But it's his dual-threat ability that makes him frightening.
He also ran for 660 yards and added six touchdowns on the ground, so he can hurt Penn State's defense in a variety of ways. It might be a good idea to keep a spy around the line of scrimmage just in case Del Rio-Wilson has plans of running around Saturday afternoon.
Another thing to note about the Marshall quarterback is that he previously played at Syracuse. While he didn't see the field much there, it's significant that he has experience against Power 4 competition. Del Rio-Wilson will do his best to ensure that the Nittany Lions don't cruise to an easy victory, so they need to be prepared to scratch and claw for a while this weekend.

The New England Patriots announced on Monday that they have put punter Bryce Baringer and rookie linebacker Khalil Jacobs on injured reserve.
That explains the team's decision to sign veteran punter Mitch Wishnowsky to the practice squad. By going on IR, both Baringer and Jacobs will have to miss at least four games before having a shot at returning.
Jacobs, an undrafted rookie out of Missouri, was one of the training camp standouts at a position that lacked depth. He flashed as an immediate contributor for the Patriots and earned a spot on the initial 53-man roster. When it comes to finding and developing young talent, the Patriots might look back on this one as a steal if Jacobs can get healthy and continue his upward trajectory.
As for Baringer, he looked great during the preseason. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in the team's Week 2 preseason matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, and the team was forced to turn to backup quarterback Behren Morton to punt.
They signed Matt Haack to close out the preseason against the Cleveland Browns. Now, they'll likely move forward with Wishnowsky for the Week 1 Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks.

How Tennessee football will honor the late Dolly Parton this season originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Tennessee football announced plans to honor the late Dolly Parton with a sticker on the back of the Vols helmets during the 2026 season, per coach Josh Heupel.
Parton died on August 25. She was 80.
"All that she's meant across the world, this country, and certainly the Queen of East Tennessee," Heupel said. "A lady that was extremely proud of her roots. You look at her impact, just her ability to give back, make an impact to people, certainly here in East Tennessee. She means a lot to people across this country, but certainly here inside the state of Tennessee, too."
Parton was an entertainment icon who was well-known around the world. But her story started in East Tennessee. She was known for her career as a recording artist, but her philanthropic efforts in recent years never went unnoticed. She was a regular around Tennessee and attended many Vols events.

Arizona women's basketball's 2027 class will have plenty of size. The Wildcats received a commitment from 6-foot-2 Canadian forward Ashley Vande Ven on Sunday. The four-star player joins 6-foot wing Brieana Brown and 6-foot-4 power forward Celsy Colombo in Becky Burke's next recruiting class.
Vande Ven is ranked No. 82 in the ESPN SC Next 100. She has a scouting grade of 92 from the service.
Vande Ven is also rated as a four-star recruit by Prospects Nation. While she isn't in their top 60 players, she is part of the site's Elite 150. She is not ranked or rated by 247sports or Rivals.
"Our Canadian hoopers from British Columbia have made the trip across the border to compete and train with EIE since the beginning," Prospects Nation managing editor Chris Hansen wrote. "This year the duo of Puneet Deol of Surrey, B.C., and Ashley Vande Ven of Langley, B.C., made arguments they can compete with anyone in the lower 48 and are on their respective PN Watch Lists as well."
Although Vande Ven is from British Columbia in the Western part of Canada, she will come to Tucson from Crestwood Prep, a sports-focused high school across the country in Toronto. Crestwood produced former UConn star and current WNBA player Aaliyah Edwards and current Duke All-American Toby Fournier.

The Hart Trophy goes to the NHL's most valuable player. Fittingly, the MVP of NHL fans, media and general managers has the same name.
Maybe that's high praise, but Hart Levine's website, PuckPedia, saved the hockey media world two years ago.
For years, NHL fans — and some front offices — relied on CapFriendly for all of their league-wide contract information. It showed the term and value of every contract, along with each team's cap projections and a number of other pieces of key information. It was the go-to resource for anyone wanting to keep track of the numbers, whether for work or recreation.
In the summer of 2024, the Washington Capitals ruined it.
Their intent was to gain a competitive advantage by hiring the folks who ran the site to their hockey operations team. As big as the opportunity was for Jamie, Ryan and Chris Davis, the brothers behind CapFriendly, it threw the rest of the hockey world into a state of frenzy.

Manchester City beat Crystal Palace 4-1 last night at Selhurst Park with a good performance that was filled with plenty of positives. One of those was the performance of Phil Foden. Foden endured a frustrating opening half-hour in last night's match. However, he overcame that to put in a performance that helped his team make it back-to-back wins to start their 2026-27 Premier League campaign.
Manchester City took the lead last night in the 17th minute courtesy of a sublime header from Erling Haaland which came from an Antoine ******* yo cross. Following that goal, Phil Foden had two chances to double Manchester City's lead. He squandered the first in the 21st minute after being set free by Elliot Anderson after City played through the Crystal Palace defence. Foden inexplicably fired over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy. Six minutes later, Foden failed to get sufficient contact on a header from close range after being set up by Rayan Cherki.
For a player who is striving to get back to his best, it was going to be a question of how Foden responded to those chances going by the wayside. Come the final whistle, the answer was emphatic as Phil Foden put in a performance that showed he was getting back to his best.
At times last night, Crystal Palace couldn't live with Manchester City's attacking interplay and fluidity. Phil Foden was at the heart of that. Foden combined superbly well with Nico O'Reilly, Elliot Anderson and Rayan Cherki from the right wing. You could see the confidence growing in Phil Foden as last night's match progressed. He was gliding around the pitch and his touch and passing was on point. He also grabbed an ******* ist when he played the ball to Rayan Cherki to do the rest to score his first goal of the evening. However, the best came late on from Foden.
Erling Haaland would seal Manchester City's win over Crystal Palace when he scored the fourth goal in City's 4-1 win in the 84th minute. Haaland's powerful near post finish came via an ******* ist from Phil Foden. It was that moment that was the crowning moment of Foden's night. It was also one that showed that Phil Foden is getting back to his best.

The Green Bay Packers finish up training camp with their only home preseason game of the year, as Matt LaFleur hosts his brother's Arizona Cardinals on Friday night at Lambeau Field.
There is still plenty to play for as players on the bubble look to make their final argument for a roster spot.
Here are five things to look out for during the preseason finale:
The starters are not going to play on Friday, so that means Josh Jacobs, who was officially charged with two misdemeanors including one for battery on Thursday, will presumably not suit up.
Lloyd is not technically a starter, so he should, in theory, start the game, but it will be interesting to see if he gets pulled earlier than most.

In a recent report, talkSPORT mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are pushing hard to land Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo this summer. It has been mentioned that Spurs are facing competition in the form of Manchester City in the race to land the Dutch talent this month.
Gakpo enjoyed a decent run of form at the Merseyside club in the previous campaign when he produced a string of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 27-year-old scored nine times and earned six ******* ists in 52 matches for Liverpool last season in all competitions.
The Dutch sensation is currently among the most talented wingers in Premier League football. Hence, it is no surprise that Spurs are eager to get a deal over the line for him in this transfer window.
His current contract at Anfield will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Tottenham to land him on the cheap this month.

FC Barcelona are considering abandoning a ceremony that planned to celebrate seven players' involvement in Spain's 2026 FIFA World Cup victory as political tensions continue to rise amongst the club's fanbase.
Sunday's trip to Elche, which saw Barcelona claim a convincing victory to kickstart their LaLiga campaign, was marred by an act of violence that saw police officers use disproportionate force to detain a fan – believed to be a minor – who had an Estelada flag draped over his shoulders.
The Estelada is a version of the Catalan senyera flag that features a star and represents the fight for independence from Spain.
FC Barcelona confirmed on Monday that they are awaiting "explanations corresponding to the events and reserves the right to take actions that it considers fit to defend the integrity, the rights, and the freedom of expression of its members and fans."
It appears that one of those actions may involve scrapping plans to showcase the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy at the Spotify Camp Nou ahead of Thursday's LaLiga match against Athletic Club. Seven Barça players were part of Luis de la Fuente's squad that claimed victory over Argentina in North America last month, and the club planned to pay homage to their achievements.

Coach Bruce Harbach's Schuylkill Valley Panthers had a rough go of it in 2025, which was plagued by injuries, finishing 5-6.
But even then, the back-to-back Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 champions managed to punch their ticket to the District 3 playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
The Panthers fell 35-7 in the quarterfinals at the hands of the eventual Class 3A champions, Trinity, for the second straight year.
"They were a better football team than we were," Harbach said at the Lancaster-Lebanon League media day in early August. "I think our kids learned a lesson that you have to prepare for anybody, whether good, bad, mediocre, or whatever. You have to come out and play a game of football."
It was not the season the Panthers had hoped for after remaining at the top of Section 5 in the previous two seasons, as Harbach has turned the program around since his arrival in 2021.

Mohamed Salah ‌‌opened his account in the Turkish Super Lig with a double as Trabzonspor beat Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 to clinch their first win of the season.
Salah, who joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool following a trophy-laden nine-year spell, also had two goals disallowed in a standout performance on Sunday.
Making his first league start after appearing as a substitute in Trabzonspor's ‌‌season opener, Salah put his side ahead in the eighth minute, capitalising after Basaksehir goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer failed to hold on to the ball.
Basaksehir's Eldor Shomurodov equalised from the penalty spot in the 19th minute, but Salah restored Trabzonspor's lead three minutes into the second half, bursting down the right, exchanging passes with Ernest Muci and slotting the ball into the far corner.
The 34-year-old winger had a stoppage-time effort chalked off for a foul in the build-up and another ruled out for offside when he found the empty net from long range with the goalkeeper upfield for a corner.

The New England Patriots' preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles started in the worst possible fashion.
On the game's opening kickoff that was run back by New England's Lan Larison, Eagles running back Ja'Quinden Jackson remained on the ground after a collision. It was clear immediately that his injury was significant, prompting a quick reaction from the medical staff.
Jackson eventually was put on a stretcher and left the field in an ambulance. His team later shared that he has "strength and movement in all extremities" and was being taken to a hospital for further evaluation. His agent, Damien Butler, released a statement afterwards that his client was "awake, has full movement and use of all four limbs, and his CT scan came back negative."
The scene nonetheless was a scary one. Afterwards, the Patriots expressed their well-wishes for the 24-year-old.
"I would just like to send our thoughts and prayers out for Ja'Quinden Jackson," said New England head coach Mike Vrabel during his postgame presser. "You never like to see that. Obviously, I hope everything's okay there. That's not how you want to start any game or see anybody out there on the field like that."

Got the monkey off their back.
That's what Green Bay Southwest football coach BJ Hill told his players after their thrilling 33-13 win over Sheboygan South on Aug. 21.
You'll have to forgive Hill for thinking this was the Trojans' first victory in seven years. It's difficult to blame anybody in the program for feeling it's been that long with all the losses that have piled up in recent seasons.
Although Southwest was awarded a forfeit victory over Appleton West in 2024, it won for the first time on the field during the regular season since beating Green Bay Preble on Sept. 9, 2022.
It also was the first time Southwest scored 30 or more points since putting up 35 against the Hornets in that game four years ago.

Four-star defensive lineman Jamarcus Johnson, a 2028 prospect, took a game visit last September to see Florida State when they beat the Kent State Golden Flashes. That trip came four days after he got a scholarship offer from the Seminoles.
The 6-foot-5, 308-pounder has seven game visits locked in for the upcoming season. He doesn't have one set up to go to Tallahassee, but he will see FSU on Oct. 17 when they play the Miami Hurricanes on the road, per Brendan Sonnone of 247Sports. He'll also travel to see the Baylor Bears (Sept. 5), Ohio State Buckeyes (Sept. 12), Texas A&M Aggies (Oct. 24), Oklahoma Sooners (Nov. 7), LSU Tigers (Nov. 21), and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (Nov. 28).
Johnson is the No. 42 recruit in the country and the No. 5 defensive lineman per 247Sports composite rankings. He's ranked as the state of Georgia's No. 7 prospect as well.
At the moment, Johnson has 15 offers. However, he has named eight schools in particular that have established themselves as the leaders in his recruitment, and this list includes FSU.

José Mourinho has given an exclusive interview to 'El Chiringuito' in which he spoke about everything. This is the second part of the interview.
"I haven't asked for anyone. I arrived after **** yzing the squad well, being absolutely aware of what I want. Looking at the things that happened last season and that you pass on to Lisbon, I wanted to come in knowing many things and behave as if I knew nothing. And finding a winger with one-on-one ability, aggressive, and who can play on both flanks (Diomandé), is not easy. I don't want to **** yze whether he cost 80, 120... I just say 'yes, I want him'."
"My player? No, he belongs to Pep Guardiola. He brings everything. I hope we can have few problems and a lot of stability and, if we do, Bernardo is a midfielder for me, but he can play as an attacking midfielder, on the right wing, anywhere... It has nothing to do with **** ing him away from Atlético or Barcelona, it was my conviction that Bernardo is Real Madrid level."
"There is only one Kroos and only one Modric. Arda Guler? I love him, and something similar to what happened with Luka will happen to him: you start as a '10', attacking, and in the end you'll finish as an '8' or a '6'... with his understanding of the game, that's the role Arda is going to play."
"How did he ask me to come back? First there were the rumors and much later, the contacts. Benfica means a lot to me and I thought I would stay there for a long time. When Real Madrid contacted me, it had the impact I want players to feel. When he called me... easy. I had no doubts. Returning to a club has a lot of meaning. When I returned to Chelsea for the second time. After so many years and so many coaches, you are the best and I want you to come back. And I came back."

It's goodbye to Munich for full-back Hanna Glas, who is leaving FC Bayern for the National Women's Super League. The 29-year-old Swede has signed for American top-flight side Kansas City Current, where she'll initially continue her rehab from the serious knee injury she suffered last summer.
Bayern have thus granted Glas' wish to play on a different continent. FC Bayern Women sporting director Bianca Rech thanked the Swede: "Hanna was a key player in our defence and an important personality in the team. We're very grateful for her efforts in the last two and a half years. We wish her lots of luck and success in the USA, and hope that her rehab continues to go well."
Glas had a goodbye message for the team, club and fans: "I felt at home in Munich and at FC Bayern from day one. I had very high expectations when I moved to Bayern, and my expectations have actually been well exceeded. I've never experienced a season like the one when we won the championship. With that I also achieved one of my greatest ambitions. I will always remember the first match at the Allianz Arena against PSG, too – it's great to have been part of this historic event. Munich and our team will always have a special place in my heart. I fell in love with the city and will remember it as my second home. I wish the team and the club all the very best, and thank everyone, including the fans of course, for a fantastic time."
Glas joined Bayern from Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2020 and made exactly 50 appearances in all competitions. During this time she won the Bundesliga ****** le in the 2020/21 season. Hanna will also be remembered for her winning goal in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Chelsea, which was crowned Goal of the Season by UEFA in the 2020/21 UWCL campaign.

With the 53-man roster crunch coming throughout the NFL, trade speculation links the New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler to the Indianapolis Colts. Rattler began the 2025 NFL Season as the starting quarterback for the Saints. While Rattler performed admirably, current starter Tyler Shough took over the position and almost won Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Prior to the 2026 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints shopped Rattler around the NFL but could not find an organization to take him. With so many teams in need of quarterbacks, he seemed expendable at the right price. Rattler is also still young and has shown respectable skills for an NFL starting quarterback.
However, the Saints also signed Zach Wilson this offseason, and he showcased some improvements in Saturday's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Per PFF, they gave Wilson a 81.2 grade in the contest while Rattler only earned a 49.8 grade. Wilson seems on track to earn the backup quarterback job, and Rattler could be on the way to another organization.

"I'm not giving that flag up to anybody," Campbell said. "No way."
Asked why, Campbell said, "Look, the buck stops with me, anyway."
"I'm answering the questions, so why would I give it to somebody else for me to answer for somebody else?" he said. "It all comes to me, anyway. And so yeah, that's it."
