Charles Barkley, a former NBA player, believes the San Antonio Spurs have a promising future. The Spurs already have Victor Wembanyama, a 7-foot-4 superstar who is at the center of the team's foundation. They also have De'Aaron Fox, a promising backcourt star veteran. In the franchise's recent postseason run, however, two youngsters took the spotlight.
Along with Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper demonstrated that they can contribute to the Spurs' promising future. During San Antonio's playoff run, Castle averaged 18.2 points, the second-most points on the team. Harper, meanwhile, averaged 14.1 points per game, the most from a player off the bench.

Charles Barkley issued a stern warning to other NBA backcourt players regarding their postseason performance during his recent appearance on "The Bill Simmons Show". Barkley also compared the Spurs' young guards to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Those two guards, I don't want to see them for the next 10 years if I'm a guard in the NBA," Barkley said. "Harper and Castle, if I'm a guard in the NBA, I do not want to see them boys for the next 10 years. They're gonna be the new Steph and Klay."

CLEVELAND (AP) — Daniel Schneemann singled home rookie Angel Genao from third base in the 10th inning to send Cleveland to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, the Guardians' third walk-off victory in the four-game series.
With a runner at second, Patrick Bailey opened the 10th with a single off Kyle Finnegan (3-1). Schneemann then ripped a 1-0 pitch into right, triggering another celebration by the Guardians, who are chasing Chicago in the AL Central.
The Guardians didn't lead at any point in the series until their final swing. Cleveland swept a doubleheader on Friday before being shut out Saturday.
Cade Smith (5-1) pitched two perfect innings, striking out the side in the 10th with an automatic runner at second.
Brayan Rocchio homered for the Guardians, who came in tied with Toronto for the final wild-card spot.

McLaren and Red Bull have won their appeals against the result of the Monaco Grand Prix after a controversy over multiple incorrect pit-lane speeding penalties.
The victory means Alpine's Pierre Gasly loses the podium he was awarded after an appeal by the French team that overturned two five-second penalties.
That means Gasly, who finished third on the road, is dropped back to the seventh place he received in the official results.
Red Bull's Isack Hadjar is returned to third place and McLaren's Oscar Piastri fourth, with Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad moving up to fifth and sixth.
However, the verdict does not fully address the multiple effects of a series of pit-lane speeding penalties.

It has been just ten days since Ashton Jeanty went down with an injury in Raiders camp and didn't return. That was Sunday, August 23, which was exactly three weeks from the start of the Raiders' 2026 season. Making today right about the halfway point. And as of today, the Raiders seem to be feeling pretty good about Jeanty's chances of playing.
Today head coach Klint Kubiak was asked for an update on Jeanty, and he said "He's continuing to improve" and as to whether he is confident Jeanty will be available for the opener, he gave a firm "Yes."
This would seem to add to what GM Johh Spytek said of Jeanty the day before.
"I expect him to be back as quick as he can, maybe quicker than some people would expect," Spytek said of Jeanty.
Now, obviously, that's not a definitive timeline. But, then again, neither is being optimistic. However, it's probably a far cry from the fears the team initially had when Jeanty went down in practice.

Aug. 31—FARGO, N.D. — Blake Schiltz kicked off his college football career with a bang.
The 2025 Pine Island graduate and Division I-FBS North Dakota State University defensive end was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday.
In his NDSU debut, a 33-7 victory over Jacksonville State on Aug. 29, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound redshirt freshman recorded a solo tackle, a sack and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, putting the Bison up by 20 points in the third quarter. Schiltz's fourth-quarter sack forced Jacksonville State to attempt and miss a 52-yard field goal.
Schiltz's standout performance came in NDSU's first game at the FBS level. The university announced in February that it was making the jump from FCS and joining the Mountain West.
Schiltz redshirted and did not see the field during the 2025 season, NDSU's last in FCS and the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

The U.S. Open promises another tournament of action, fashion and Honey Deuces.
The competition opens for its first day of tennis on Sunday, Aug. 30 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. Back-to-back women's champion Aryna Sabalenka and Alexander Zverev are the top seeds of the women's and men's singles draw.
Last year's men's champion, Carlos Alcaraz, already spent time on the courts this week when he appeared in the mixed doubles competition with Serena Williams. They made it to the quarterfinals. Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik won the competition. It was the first major win for both of them.
Williams' sister, Venus, will be playing as a wild card in this year's U.S. Open. She won the competition twice, in 2000 and 2001. This tournament, her journey starts against fellow American Sofia Kenin in primetime at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Most teams playing this weekend have already submitted their initial depth charts, so we at least have a guide for what to expect in terms of personnel deployment for those programs. However, the dozens of teams that will be opening their seasons in Week 1 still have major questions around who is going to get the most run among the team's skill players. This is especially important at wide receiver, since most teams deploy 3-WR sets with at least one, and usually two, of those starting spots up for grabs thanks to graduation and portal defections. The more you get into the weeds and research as many of the 68 Power Four team depth charts as you can unearth, the less likely you will be to blow picks in your upcoming drafts.
A phrase I like to reappropriate from the political realm is "All College Football Is Local." When depth charts are not available for key teams, you will need to rely on reputable beat writers who convey actionable information. This is a slippery slope nowadays, however, as many beat writers serve to protect the programs they cover, and curry favor in the process, as opposed to unveiling potentially sensitive information that might alienate them. Oftentimes their allegiances are to the program they've poured their hearts into for most of their adult lives, as opposed to providing us with the granular insider details of what's happening within their local program. Message board rumors can be insightful at times, as people love gossiping about their favorite teams, but tread lightly when relying on unattributed anonymous reports on the ol' internet.
The NFL injury rumor mill is so suffocating that we were subjected to a full news cycle speculating about the Raiders' prayer circle after Ashton Jeanty sprained his ankle in practice. There isn't an apple-to-apples comparison for CFB because often we don't have a clear picture on injuries until the first games kick off. Compounding matters is the lack of a uniform injury report like we see in the NFL, making injury obfuscation and subterfuge a routine occurrence in college. It never hurts to toss a player's name into the Google machine to check for recent reports before taking the plunge on a player.

Peterson brings 19 seasons of professional and collegiate baseball experience to the position. Before joining the Rumble Ponies, he spent 11 seasons as General Manager of the Worcester Bravehearts, leading the team to four league championships. He joined Binghamton in August of 2025 as ******* istant General Manager of Sales, helping lead the team's sales efforts and build relationships throughout the community.
Peterson succeeds Richard Tylicki, who has been with Binghamton baseball since 1995. Tylicki helped guide the organization through more than three decades of changes and is now moving on to his next chapter.

The WNBA is back with a new collective bargaining agreement and million dollar players.
The Las Vegas Aces will be looking to run it back as defending champs with the reigning MVP, A'ja Wilson, leading the way. Lots of other contenders hope to have something to say about that including the Atlanta Dream, New York Liberty and Indiana Fever. The Fever, who were without floor leader Caitlin Clark for much of last season, are fully healthy. The Liberty, who were also bitten by the injury bug last season, already have Sabrina Ionesco on the sidelines after she rolled her ankle in a preseason game against the Connecticut Sun.
The Atlanta Dream also made the trade of the offseason, getting Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky to add to a roster which won 30 games last season.

Manchester City open their Premier League season at home to Bournemouth with one immediate problem, Jeremy Doku is out. The Belgian went off at half-time in the Community Shield and the expectation is that a calf injury will rule him out for several weeks. For Enzo Maresca, that means changes straight away.
The basic shape stays the same. The details change. Erling Haaland leads the line, as expected, but the three behind him now need reworking. Phil Foden looks set to move from the No10 role to the right, Antoine **** yo shifts over to the left, and Rayan Cherki gets the central attacking berth.

Doku gives City directness, pace and a one v one threat few can match. Without him, the attack becomes more technical and more dependent on combinations. That may suit Cherki, who is at his best receiving between the lines, and it gives Foden a familiar wide starting point before drifting infield.
Jack Grealish is the wildcard. He did well after replacing Doku last time out, but his position remains uncertain while questions over his future continue. He may be involved, he may not. Right now, the safer call is caution.

UCLA Bruins' quarterback Nico Iamaleava possesses an elite combination of size and speed. Even if Iamaleava isn't the most built-out 6'5", his height allows him to see over defenders and his own offensive line.
That skillset is valuable in the college game but becomes even more important at the next level. The 2026 season will determine what the future holds for Iamaleava. With a strong season under Bob Chesney, Iamaleava could wind up hearing his name early in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Rookie Watch reported earlier this week that Iamaleava has the chance to "soar up NFL Draft boards", adding that NFL scouts have "extremely impressed" with what Iamaleava has shown thus far in training camp.
In Iamaleava's first season with UCLA, the Tennessee transfer impressed with his legs, leading the Bruins in rushing yards but Rookie Watch reported that one NFL scout stated that Iamaleava has "one of the biggest arms" in next year's class of quarterbacks.
That arm wasn't displayed enough in UCLA's offense last year. Between a dysfunctional offensive line and an overall lack of offensive cohesion, Iamaleava didn't have too many chances to show off his right arm.

LEEDS, England (AP) — Pakistan captain Babar Azam was ruled out of the first test against England starting on Wednesday because of a hand injury.
Babar was struck on the middle finger of his right hand while batting against the West Indies this month, and hit again in a warmup game last week in Beckenham.
"Pakistan captain Babar Azam is unavailable for the first test match," Pakistan coach Sarfaraz Ahmed said on Tuesday. "Salman Agha will be the captain for the first test."
Ahmed said the finger was not broken and he hoped the pain will reduce so Babar could play in the second test at Lord's starting on Aug. 27.
But his absence was a blow to Pakistan. Babar had just been reappointed captain and led the scoring in the West Indies.

Every season feels like it's the Super Bowl or bust for the Dallas Cowboys and their fans, but the team's offseason moves don't always reflect that mentality. This season, however, it sounds like there's a chance that they could.
The Dallas Cowboys already made a big splash this preseason when they signed veteran pass rusher Von Miller on Sunday, adding immediate talent to their defensive line. However, it sounds like the team is open to more moves, too.
Last month, Cowboys team owner and general manager Jerry Jones hinted at a possible "substantive" trade to help bolster the roster.
"I'd be very interested," Jones said during the team's annual news conference to open training camp via The Athletic. "I'd give up the future to [get something] substantive to where we are today — as to a player — to give you an idea about what I invest, something substantive, to get the right kind of deal and improve us for opening day. I would. I feel that good about this team this year. Of course, you know that I haven't seen this team play together, but in general, looking ahead, I think we've got a chance to be worthy of spending some future if we saw an opportunity."
More specifically, Jones said that he would be willing to give up a "top pick" for a defensive playmaker like a linebacker or a pass rusher.

Ian Machado Garry came up short in the UFC 330 main event ***** le bout against welterweight champion Islam Makhachev on Sunday. "The Future" lost by unanimous decision inside Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Following the loss, the Irishman released a video statement via social media.
"Tonight wasn't my night," Garry said on Instagram. "I feel great, I did great, Islam was just better than me tonight and that's OK. I want everybody who loves me and supports me and wants to see me do better, I want you to know that I'm going to be back.
"I'm not disheartened by this. I'm bulletproof in my mind. I'm going to be back. I'm 28 years of age, I just fought arguably the greatest fighter we've ever seen in this sport and I pushed him to the f**king wire and I'm so proud of myself and I'm so proud of my team and everything that we've done. I'm so proud of what I've done in this world and who I've become. ***** ody's stopping me. Tonight was not my night."
Garry vowed to return 'better than ever,' and heaped praise on Makhachev and his team.

Benfica are refusing to give up on João Palhinha. After Bayern Munich rejected an initial proposal for a loan deal, the Portuguese club are now looking at a different approach to bring the midfielder back to his home country.
According to reports, Benfica are prepared to offer a permanent transfer for Palhinha, with the €25 million-plus fee Bayern are demanding potentially being spread over two seasons. That structure could make the deal more financially manageable for the Portuguese giants, who remain determined to strengthen their midfield with the 31-year-old.
Bayern have made their position increasingly clear: the Bundesliga champions want a permanent solution for Palhinha rather than another loan. The Portugal international returned to Munich this summer after spending the 2025/26 season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur. Despite making 45 appearances and scoring seven goals for Spurs, the Premier League club decided against making his move permanent.
Palhinha is not part of Vincent Kompany's long-term plans at Bayern, however, meaning the club are actively looking for a buyer. Bayern are understood to be waiting for the best possible offer rather than rushing into an agreement. Max Eberl has recently indicated that the club remains open to different solutions, although a permanent transfer would clearly be the preferred outcome.
For Benfica, there is also a strong sporting argument behind the pursuit. Manager Marco Silva knows Palhinha extremely well from their time together at Fulham and is reportedly desperate to work with the midfielder again. Silva sees the experienced defensive midfielder as an ideal addition to his squad.

A lot of things went wrong during the game, but there is one very glaring issue that should have Falcons fans a bit worried. That issue revolves around the quarterback room, and especially Tua Tagovailoa.
ESPN's Marc Raimondi noted how Tagovailoa's debut was not "auspicious," as he struggled mightily for the Falcons. But it wasn't just Tagovailoa who struggled; Cooper Rush was a disaster. One thing is clear after this game: The Falcons have a QB problem.
"All eyes were on Tua Tagovailoa in his first start of any kind with the Atlanta Falcons. It was not an auspicious beginning," Raimondi writes.

We are entering the final weekend of there being no calcio ahead of the 2026-27 season kicking off next week. And just nine days away from Juventus beginning the new campaign against Frosinone, their goalkeeper situation is very much just as unsettled as it was — and likely much more now! — than it was back at the end of the 2025-26 season when we all knew a change was needed.
Juventus are about to pivot to yet another backup option when it comes to signing a new goalkeeper.
It is now as a result of the potential season-long deal between Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain for Zion Suzuki going from distinct possibility to looking very unlikely to happen all within a day or so. That means the latest pivot to try and bring in a new goalkeeper as a result of Michele Di Gregorio's host of struggles over the last 12 months has taken us to Guglielmo Vicario being described as "the favorite" in terms of potential candidates. (Which, unless there's somebody that Giovanni Carnevali and Frederic Massara are working on in the background that we don't know about, pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the current situation to sign a new goalkeeper.)
However, there's another twist in all this: As Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio said an hour or two ago, "everything is on hold."
Oh … well, that's good, right? Especially with the season all of nine days away from kicking off?
