Under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M's wide receiver rotations struggled to find any consistency, no matter who was throwing the ball, and even after landing five-star Evan Stewart and four-star Noah Thomas in the historic 2022 recruiting class, injuries, a lack of development, and poor usage derailed both players' careers in College Station.
Stewart, who transferred to Oregon after the 2023 season, is currently a redshirt senior with the Ducks, while Noah Thomas transferred to Georgia after three seasons with the Aggies, appearing in 35 games and recording 73 receptions for 934 yards and 15 touchdowns, serving as A&M's starting X receiver during his final season, which was by far his most productive.
Why Thomas decided to transfer to Georgia is still surprising to this day, appearing in 10 games with the Bulldogs and recorded just 16 receptions for 264 yards and four touchdowns. Even after landing transfer wide receivers Mario Craver and KC Concepcion, Thomas would have still seen extensive playing time as the X receiver, especially after Jerome Myles' injury before the 2025 season.
The Aggies lacked size, which became an issue late in the year after starting 11-0, but after adding Alabama transfer WR Isaiah Horton this offseason, who is 6'4" and 215 pounds, A&M has likely solved its size issue, while Noah Thomas, who went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, is looking to stand out with the Cincinnati Bengals during NFL Training Camp.
On Thursday, Thomas made the "catch of the day," which was captured by local Bengals media, as the rookie's physicality and concentration were on full display, pulling down the catch against veteran cornerback D.J Ivey. Thomas certainly possesses the traits to make an NFL roster.

UFC's upcoming trip to Shanghai will now see a fun featherweight matchup.
The event takes place Aug. 29 at Shanghai Indoor Stadium in Shanghai, China, and is headlined by an important bantamweight bout between Umar Nurmagomedov and Song Yadong. The UFC has now added a matchup between Jack Jenkins and Sean Woodson. The promotion officially announced the matchup Thursday.
Jenkins (14-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has produced mixed results in recent outings, but comes into this pairing after a unanimous decision win over Ramon Taveras in September. The Dana White's Contender Series veteran native has four wins under the UFC banner, including a third-round finish of Herbert Burns at UFC 305.
The Australian draws a rangy Woodson (13-2-1 MMA, 7-2-1 UFC) who will look to rebound from a streak-breaking stoppage loss against Dan Ige at UFC 314. Prior to that setback, the Missouri-born DWCS signee won four straight. That run included wins over Dennis Buzukja, Charles Jourdain, Alex Caceres and Fernando Padilla.
With the addition, the UFC Shanghai lineup inlcudes:

Danish top flight club Odense have parted ways with their German coach Alexander Zorniger after one matchday, citing differing opinions around the club's future.
Zorniger, 58, took the job last year and led then promoted Odense to eighth place in the league. They started the new season with a 1-0 defeat at Viborg.
Odense said on Thursday that "the collaboration has ended due to difficulties in working together and a lack of support (from Zorniger) for the club's direction and ambitions."
Zorniger had previously coached clubs including RB Leipzig, VfB Stuttgart, Brøndby and second division Greuther Fürth.

Carson Hocevar's unfiltered personality has quickly made him one of NASCAR's rising stars and a fan favorite.
And while his racing tactics may not endear him to other drivers (and those drivers' fans), the 23-year-old's passion for racing is not disputed.
Hocevar is an avid iRacing user who also does his fair share of late-model racing at short tracks around the country when allowed by his busy NASCAR schedule that includes the full-time Cup slate as well as a part-time Truck Series itinerary.
In that context lies Hocevar's thoughts on July 28 on NASCAR's current status as a TV product while watching the 2000 Talladega fall race, notable for being Dale Earnhardt's final Cup Series victory 26 years ago.
"It's insane we as a sport produce the product we give to fans and wonder why fans have lost interest," Hocevar wrote on social media. "This race is beautiful. The sights, the sounds, the cars, the production, the commentators.

WEST SACRAMENTO — Newly-acquired Curtis Mead left his Red Sox debut during the fifth inning Monday due to a left wrist contusion after getting hit with a pitch earlier in the game.
Athletics starter Jack Perkins hit Mead on the left wrist with a 94.9 mph four-seam fastball to lead off the fourth inning.
Mead remained in the game and played at second base in the bottom of the fourth inning. But the Red Sox replaced him at second base with Anthony Seigler to begin the bottom of the fifth inning.
Boston acquired Mead from the Nationals for starting pitcher Connelly Early on Saturday night.
"I was shocked, excited, a bunch of different emotions," Mead said Monday. "Just really excited to be here. And I didn't sleep a whole lot Saturday night."

The Minnesota Vikings can talk about other training camp storylines, but the quarterback conversation is not going anywhere.
Kyler Murray enters camp as the favorite to win the starting job, giving Minnesota an experienced option with the arm talent and mobility to function in Kevin O'Connell's offense. Still, any unsettled quarterback situation commands attention, and the Vikings have one that could shape not only Week 1, but the franchise's long-term direction, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
Who will start at QB in Week 1? Kyler Murray is the heavy favorite to win the job, but it's impossible to pull eyes away from any unsettled quarterback situation. In his previous seven NFL seasons, Murray has displayed the arm talent necessary to succeed in Kevin O'Connell's offense. But how long will it take him to grow accustomed to what is admittedly a complex scheme, one that requires active eyes and patient feet in the pocket? Murray admitted during OTAs that it had been a challenge to pursue the necessary familiarity while taking only half the reps. Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy, the No. 10 pick of the 2024 draft, is fighting for his football future -- at least with the Vikings -- after only 10 NFL starts. -- Kevin Seifert
Murray's résumé makes him the logical front-runner. Across seven NFL seasons, he has shown the ability to create explosive plays, extend snaps and stress defenses with his arm and athleticism. Those traits should fit an offense built around timing, ****** ing and aggressive downfield opportunities.
The challenge is mastering the details.

DETROIT, MICHIGAN - MAY 22: Gleyber Torres #25 of the Detroit Tigers plays against the Cleveland Guardians at Comerica Park on May 22, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)
The MLB trade deadline is less than two weeks away. As teams look to fortify their rosters for the stretch run, fantasy managers can help their squads by scouring the waiver wire for reinforcements. Let’s highlight five players to consider adding who are still available in the majority of Yahoo leagues.
Torres has been limited to 46 games this season because of injury. He recently missed over a month with an oblique ailment. Across three games since making his return, he is 3-for-11 with two walks and a run scored. He continues to show a good eye at the plate, recording a 15.3% walk rate and a 19.2% strikeout rate for the season. That has enabled him to record a .351 wOBA. The Tigers will play six games next, including three at the Athletics’ hitter-friendly park. Don’t hesitate to add Torres if you need help at second base.
Sasaki is coming off a good start against the Yankees in which he gave up one unearned run over 5 2/3 innings. The most encouraging stat from that outing was that he didn’t give up a home run for the first time since the middle of May. In Week 19, he is lined up to make a start at home against the Mariners. He has been good there, recording a 3.69 xFIP, 1.29 WHIP and 26.4% strikeout rate in Los Angeles. Consider him one of the better streaming options to target.
Ewing is swinging a hot bat, hitting 17-for-53 (.321) with two home runs and four doubles across his last 12 games. He even stole three bases during that span, giving him a total of 11 steals over 63 games. After showing an adept skill of getting on base throughout his time in the minors, he is batting .274 with a .345 OBP with the Mets. New York is slated to play seven games next week, so Ewing will have plenty of opportunities to provide fantasy value.

The WNBA season is in full swing, and Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have delivered strong viewership for the league.
In primetime on Saturday, the New York Liberty-Indiana Fever matchup averaged 2.58 million viewers on CBS. The game is the most-watched WNBA telecast ever on CBS, and the second-most-watched WNBA game this season, behind Fever-Las Vegas Aces (2.64 million) last Sunday on NBC and Peacock.

TORONTO (AP) — Griffin Jax allowed one run in six strong innings, Victor Mesa Jr. drove in two runs and the Tampa Bay Rays used a three-run sixth to top the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 on Wednesday night.
Jax (6-7) gave up three hits and walked one while striking out five in his second quality start of the season. Bryan Baker earned his 26th save with a hitless ninth.
Mesa drove in the Rays' first run in the second with a single that tied it at 1.
Tampa Bay took the lead on Chandler Simpson's sacrifice fly in the sixth. Mesa hit another RBI single and Ben Williamson walked with the bases loaded to drive in Cedric Mullins to make it 4-1.
The Rays had batters reach on a bunt single, walk, an error and a hit by pitch in the sixth — the first time in franchise history they had all four in the same inning.

As NFL teams report to training camp over the next several days, two former Utah college stars who've both won a Super Bowl won't be joining them — at least not yet.
Former Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner and former BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy are among the throng of current free agents, and in an article published earlier this week, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox identified the pair as two of the top 10 available free agents going into training camp.
The 36-year-old Wagner spent the past two seasons with the Washington Commanders. Prior to that, he had played all but one of his now 14 NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. That included winning a Super Bowl with the Seahawks back in 2014.
Remarkably, Wagner has recorded 100-plus tackles in every season he's played in the NFL, all while earning first-team All-Pro honors six times. Last year, he had 162 tackles, 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss and two interceptions for Washington.
"It always feels like there's at least one NFL star who can successfully stiff-arm Father Time until he's finally ready to call it a career. We're used to it being quarterbacks, but linebacker Bobby Wagner, who turned 36 last month, has shown no signs of slowing down," Knox wrote.

The summer league has ended for the Philadelphia 76ers after they finished 2-3 out in Las Vegas. They won their first two games, but then ended on a 3-game skid. However, wins and losses do not matter out in Vegas. It's all about how the young players look and how they can adjust to the NBA game after to prepare for what's to come.
Sixers rookie guard Labaron Philon Jr. had some big moments in the summer league as he showed off his skills. He averaged 18.5 points, 5.8 ****** ists, and 3.5 rebounds along with 1.5 steals in four games. He put all of his skills on display and should be able to bring that talent to the league when the regular season begins in October.
Here are the three biggest observations on Philon while at the summer league:
Philon showed the capability to be able to put the ball in the basket. His percentages weren't great, he shot 38.2% overall and 25.8% from deep, but that can be attributed to being the main threat on the floor and teams swarming him whenever he crossed halfcourt. He also was shooting a respectable 39% from deep before a 1-for-13 showing in his final outing on July 15. There were plenty of times when he was blitzed and had to quickly adjust to how teams were defending him. Even with the extra attention, Philon was able to get into the paint, give the summer Sixers somebody who could make plays for others, and was able to make his presence known. It was a solid showing and should give the team some optimism about adding a 3-level scorer to the bench unit.
Over the four games in Vegas, Philon compiled 23 ****** ists against 10 turnovers in the four games he played. He had four turnovers in the finale against the Magic, but fatigue could have been a factor. He played 36:35 in that one on the second day of a back-to-back and he averaged 32 minutes in the summer league. He had seven ****** ists in the opener against the Detroit Pistons, six against the Indiana Pacers, four against the Houston Rockets, and six against the Magic. He was able to make plays for others, was directing traffic, and showed a lot of confidence for a rookie. The Sixers should be happy with what they saw.

Following Portugal's elimination from the 2026 World Cup, a video purporting to show a drone tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo on his home island of Madeira circulated in posts marking the team's exit, and possibly the football star's final appearance at a World Cup. However, this is false; AFP Fact Check found that the footage was generated using artificial intelligence.
"A drone farewell was done for Cristiano Ronaldo in his hometown in Madeira after he played his last game for Portugal," reads the caption of a Facebook post shared in Nigeria on July 7, 2026, a day after Portugal's 2-1 defeat to Spain.
The result ended the team's campaign and possibly marked Ronaldo's final World Cup appearance.
The video shows drones forming a Portuguese flag, the words "Obrigado, 7" (which translates as "Thank you, 7"), and a stylised figure performing Ronaldo's trademark jump-and-turn celebration over a bay.
The clip has racked up hundreds of thousands of views and hundreds of shares on Instagram, X, Threads and TikTok.

While his departure has already been confirmed, Alessio Romagnoli remains a Lazio player in name, as he has yet to sign for Al-Sadd.
The 31-year-old has been trying to push his way out of his beloved club since January, as his relationship with Lazio patron Claudio Lotito hit rock bottom, mainly due to broken promises over a pay raise. The defender was on the cusp of signing for Al-Sadd in the winter, but the talks collapsed at the eleventh hour.
Nevertheless, the Qatari champions kept their promise by launching a new attempt in the summer, and have seemingly reached the finish line. Several reliable sources in the Italian press have described the operation as a ‘done deal‘, with Lazio agreeing to sell Romagnoli for €3 million.
The centre-back even confirmed the move with a video message to the supporters that was displayed during the grand Anti-Lotito demonstration organized on July 2. And yet, the former AC Milan captain is still lingering in Rome.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport and La Lazio Siamo Noi, Romagnoli was initially expected in Doha by July 5, but his arrival was delayed, as the two parties were said to be ironing out the final details in the player’s contract. Al-Sadd were also busy appointing Razvan Lucescu as their new head coach, replacing the departing Roberto Mancini.

There's no denying how disappointing the 2025 UNC football season was, considering the immense preseason hype Bill Belichick brought ahead of his first year in charge.
North Carolina finished 4-8, only beating two Power Four programs in Syracuse and Stanford. Gio Lopez arrived from South Alabama, giving the Tar Heels a dual-threat quarterback that so many programs covet, but he largely struggled.
Now projected to start for Wake Forest, Lopez will likely run into UNC again at the ACC Kickoff in Charlotte later this week.
Wake Forest takes the podium from 1-1:30 p.m., with Lopez joining new teammates Langston Hardy and Davaughn Patterson. Right after the Deacs? Belichick plus North Carolina players Melkart Abou-Jaoude, Christo Kelly and Jordan Shipp.
Lopez only completed four of 10 passes for 69 yards and an interception in his Tar Heel debut, a 48-14 blowout loss to TCU on Labor Day in Kenan Stadium. Lopez responded with a stronger second half of his lone season in Carolina Blue, compiling five consecutive games with 200 passing yards, but never became the consistent difference-maker UNC envisioned.

The move to Falkirk means Krauhaus links up with former Brentford B forward Ethan Laidlaw, who completed a permanent transfer to the Scottish club earlier this summer following a standout campaign in west London when he contributed 15 goals and 10 ****** ists for the B team.
Falkirk finished sixth in the Scottish Premiership last season.
Speaking on the loan move, B-team head coach Sam Saunders said: "Ben's season at Bromley was successful, and to come away from it with a League Two ****** le and promotion to League One is a brilliant achievement. Now he gets the chance to test himself in a different environment, in a different country, against difficult teams.
"He'll have Ethan out there with him too, which will help him settle in quickly. We think this is a really exciting opportunity for Ben to keep developing as a men's football regular in a good team, and we wish him all the best at Falkirk."
Krauhaus originally joined Brentford from Bromley in January 2024, immediately returning to the Ravens on loan for the remainder of that season, where he helped the club secure promotion into the Football League for the first time in its history, featuring 43 times in all competitions.

Barcelona have already made moves for Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi this summer. The former’s transfer has been made official and the latter is expected to complete the formalities in the coming days.
Needless to say, Hansi Flick is going all out to strengthen the forward line ahead of next season, and the arrivals have been direct replacements for existing profiles.
Gordon arrived in place of Marcus Rashford whose continuity the club decided against. Adeyemi, meanwhile is expected to arrive in place of exit-bound Roony Bardghji as a more seasoned option.
Julian Alvarez, meanwhile, remains the primary target to replace Robert Lewandowski who left at the end of last season. Now, Ferran Torres is being linked with a departure to PSG and the club are again looking for replacements.
As relayed earlier this week, Fisnik Asllani is seen as a player who can replace Torres should he leave the club this summer. Mundo Deportivo now provide an update on the same.

Manchester United's midfield could look very different in pre-season from what many would have expected a few weeks ago.

Furthermore, until very recently, a move for Ederson appeared to be all wrapped up after United struck an agreement with Atalanta before the World Cup. However, according to several reports in Italy, the Red Devils have decided not to go ahead.
Saturday's edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claims Manchester United are keen on AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone.
It is understood United have contacted the France international's agents in recent hours and are expected to make an offer to Roma. The Italian publication underline that Roma will not accept offers below €50 million.

The white-hot Detroit Tigers went for the home sweep of a three-game weeknight series against the Homeless A’s on Thursday evening, after winning the first two games in fun fashion. They made it eight wins in the past nine games with a 4-1 win to complete the sweep.
It was Framber Valdez’s turn in the rotation, and to say his season to date has been a mixed bag is one heck of an understatement. His previous two starts saw him give up four runs in six innings at home against his former Astros teammates, and six runs in five innings in Texas. His stock-in-trade is ground ****** , and when he’s on he gets a lot of ‘em: for example, his June 16 start in Houston saw him get a dozen ground ****** and half that many fly ****** , and he gave up one unearned run in six innings.
José Suarez took the mound for the A’s as an opener. He made his debut in 2019 with the Angels, but he’s had eventful few months lately: waived by Atlanta and picked up by Baltimore in mid-January, then waived by Baltimore and picked back up by Atlanta at the end of January. He was waived again by Atlanta in early May, was picked up by the Mariners, made one relief appearance for them, and had his contract purchased by the A’s less than two weeks later. This guy gets more Frequent Flyer miles than George Clooney’s character in Up in the Air. That was a solid movie.
Valdez struck out the side in the first and got a pair of ground ****** in the second, so he looked to be on-track early. Suarez stuck around for the first four outs and departed in favour of Jack Perkins, whose past few starts haven’t gone so well, so why not try an opener? He got the next two outs so the early returns looked promising for Sacramento.
That changed with one out in the third, though: Jake Rogers, starting for the injured-but-not-on-the-IL Dillon Dingler, hit his second home run in as many days, putting the Tigers up 1-0.

Earlier this offseason, the Georgia Bulldogs cancelled a future nonconference series in 2027 and 2028 with the Florida State Seminoles. Now, Georgia football is cancelling a game with another college program from Tallahassee, Florida. Georgia cancelled the 2028 game against the Florida A&M Rattlers, who are a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team.
Georgia and Florida A&M mutually agreed to cancel the game. Georgia and Florida A&M have never played in school history. With the SEC expanding to nine conference games, Georgia has had to cancel some future games along with several other SEC programs.
The Bulldogs are still scheduled to play Georgia Tech annually for the foreseeable future, so that leaves Georgia with two open nonconference games per season. Georgia is likely to always schedule one easy FCS or Group of Five opponent for at least one of those games.
Georgia has also cancelled future nonconference games with NC State and Louisville in the aftermath of the expanded SEC schedule. Georgia and Florida State are still working to play each other at a neutral site in 2028 with Nashville, Tennessee, being the most likely venue. A Georgia-Florida State game is yet to be officially announced. The Bulldogs are also seeking to schedule a future game with Louisville.

Nebraska softball finalized its coaching staff on Wednesday. Head coach Rhonda Revelle signed an extension that runs through the 2031 season. The program also finalized several previously announced coaching changes.
Revelle earned the extension after leading Nebraska to one of its best seasons in history, bringing the team back to the Women's College World Series for the first time since 2013. The Huskers totaled a school-record 52 wins in Revelle's 34th season as Nebraska's head coach, helping solidify her as the winningest coach in Nebraska athletics history.
"As we said when we had the privilege of naming the field at Bowlin Stadium in her honor, Rhonda Revelle is Nebraska Softball. Rhonda is not only a great leader of our softball program, but she is a world-class individual who elevates our entire athletic department in many ways. The trajectory of our program is at an all-time high coming off a record-breaking season and we are excited for the years ahead under the leadership of Rhonda and her outstanding staff."

Trea Turner has started hitting well again, although still lacking some slug, but his defense is a major concern right now.
Turner started the season hitting .223 through 58 games with a .622 OPS. Since June 1, he is slashing .274/.310/.393, which is much better. It's still not what the team was expecting from him, but he's at least not an automatic out. However, his defense has been abysmal all year.
He has a minus-nine defensive runs saved and a minus-six outs above average. Outside of 2025, he has been a terrible defender at shortstop for the Phillies. The team should consider moving him to the outfield. He is still one of the best athletes in baseball, and his speed would allow him to cover plenty of ground in the outfield. He does have experience there, playing 45 games in centerfield with the Washington Nationals early in his career.
Do you have a take to get off your chest? Do you want to engage in a growing Phillies community? Comment on our content alongside staff and fans alike!
In his previous three seasons, his bat was so good that the Phillies were willing to put up with the defensive deficiencies at shortstop. However, now his bat is average and the Phillies need some more production from the outfield spots as is. The Phillies may not have a much better replacement for him at shortstop offensively right now, but his defense is simply not good enough to keep trotting him out there.

The distance from the Canada border to the Mexico border of the United States along the Pacific Coast is around 1,650 miles. The route features an elevation gain and loss of nearly 80,000 feet.
Lifelong cyclist and Eugene middle school teacher Tanner Faris was unfazed.
He set his sights on smashing the fastest known time on the route — nine days and 14 hours by Tyler Pearce at the time of his decision — and to do it by himself with no material support. Starting December 2025, Faris kicked off a rigorous training regime that put in the miles needed to complete the trip in June after summer break started for Kelly Middle School.
While many Americans were resting and recharging over the Christmas holiday, Faris began the Rapha Festive 500, a challenge running from Dec. 24 to 31 to encourage cyclists to traverse 500 kilometers (310 miles).
This, he said, often feels like the toughest time to train: the days are short and the weather poor. Each workday he also biked to and from the middle school, racking up 10 miles per round trip.
