AUSTIN - Mississippi State will show a new face at quarterback when the Bulldogs come to town for a game that Steve Sarkisian and Texas hope replicates last season when the Longhorns won seven of their last eight games.
The Bulldogs started the season at 4-0 and beat teams like Missouri and Minnesota with flashy new quarterback Kamario Taylor before losing three straight, but the dynamic playmaker was lost for the season when he underwent surgery this week for an injured toe.
So the 11th-ranked Longhorns (5-2, 2-2 in SEC) will see either athletic redshirt freshman Billy Puckett or Appalachian State transfer A.J. Swan, who had 12 starts in two years at Vanderbilt and six more at App State, when Mississippi State (4-3, 2-3 SEC) and Texas kick off at 6:30 Saturday night.
BOHLS: Nine things and one crazy prediction
Puckett has completed 66% of his passes with one touchdown and two picks and can make full use of a strong running game centered around Fluff Bothwell, who is much more physical than his name suggests and has four 100-yard games this season.

After years of almost entirely focusing on the transfer portal, Rick Pitino is intensifying his efforts on the high school recruiting trail, and another class of 2027 prospect is landing on the Red Storm's radar.
Four-star Canadian recruit Godson Okokoh is reportedly scheduling a visit to St. John's on November 6 and 7, according to LeagueReady's Sam Kayser. It is unclear whether Okokoh will attend the Red Storm's matchup against Iona at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, November 8.
The 6-foot-8 forward from Ottawa is the 111th-ranked prospect in his class according to 247Sports' composite rankings and will compete in this year's Overtime Elite season with Bella Vista Prep, who will play as the City Reapers in the league. He flashed his rim protection and inside scoring in the Nike EYBL Scholastic division and the Under Armour Circuit last season, and also made a strong impression at this summer's NBPA Top 100 camp.
Okokoh made only one other visit this year at West Virginia on October 6. His offers include Kansas, Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Creighton, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, and Arizona State.
Earlier this year, Okokoh helped Canada pull off a shocking upset over the United States to win its first-ever FIBA U18 AmeriCup gold medal. He averaged 9.0 points and 5.4 rebounds over five games and recorded a team-high eight boards in the championship final.

Texas A&M's 2026 season woes have made the Aggies somewhat unwatchable this fall, coming off last Saturday's 27-6 road loss to Missouri, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed's surprising regression under first-year OC Holmon Wiggins and a shaky offensive line have resulted in the Aggies not scoring a touchdown against Missouri and LSU.
In today's college football landscape of immediate gratification, bad seasons simply aren't allowed anymore, as third-year coach Mike Elko has come under intense scrutiny from the fan base after leading the Aggies to their first College Football Playoff appearance last season.
Still, Elko's ability to recruit and land elite high school talent has built the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, which includes a nation-high six five-star commits, including the top-ranked offensive lineman Mark Matthews and elite safety duo Kamarui Dorsey and JayQuan Snell.
While four-star linebacker commit Aston Whiteside is visiting Miami this weekend, the rest of A&M's 2027 cycle has stayed intact, and according to 247Sports (subscription required) insider Zach Blostein, Elko and his staff are looking to continue their recruiting dominance in the Sunshine State, as former 2027 four-star CB Loia Valade reclassified to the 2026 class and is currently on the roster.
Texas A&M reportedly fielded offers to Florida-based three-star cornerback Daveon Belhomme and three-star safety and UConn commit Alan Blackshere, looking to add more future depth alongside Kamarui Dorsey, JayQuan Snell, and five-star cornerback Raylaun Henry.

All of a sudden, that 24-team College Football Playoff format might be front and center for an SEC dreaming of getting five, six, ten of its members into the postseason tournament.
Yes, the CFP is supposed to use a new metric – which is really a twist on what it already utilizes – that gives more respect to the strengths of schedules. That's supposed to boost the SEC – give, say, 2025 Texas credit for losing at Ohio State, even though it went 9-3 – but there are two issues with that, at least when it comes to what we're projecting below.
First, the College Football Playoff always falls back on record ranking. If there's a debate in the Grapevine meeting room – it's nice; the food is tremendous – 10-2 is a lot easier to sell than 9-3, which is why we haven't seen Power Four programs with three pre-conference championship losses leapfrog those with two or fewer.
And second, even though the upsets are coming – last Saturday probably wasn't an outlier – there's no way, no how, no chance the committee will put in a 9-3 power conference team in over an 11-1 Power Four program.
That's where the SEC comes in. A few weeks ago, it looked like the conference would own the CFP. And then Florida started losing. So did LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. Now, as we're doing this just past the midway point in the season, there are just four SEC teams left – Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee – with fewer than two losses, and all of them have one.
So how many SEC teams will make the College Football Playoff? Our best guess is three, and it'll take a shoehorn to make that happen. (By the way, we're still bullish on Kentucky, but we're predicting a few close losses over the next few weeks.)
– Why the 24-Team CFP Probably Won't Suck

Projected Final Record: 13-0
Remaining Games: at App State, Troy, at Southern Miss, at UConn, Coastal Carolina
This will likely be a big debate if Boise State keeps on rolling and goes 12-1 with a Pac-12 **** le, with its only loss coming to Oregon in the season opener. James Madison won't have any Power Four wins – last year's team didn't either – but if it's 13-0, it'll be tough to leave out.
Projected Final Record: 9-3
Remaining Games: at Auburn, Alabama, Texas, at Tennessee, at Arkansas
Here's where the strength of schedule emphasis kicks in. The call is that the committee would rank a three-loss LSU over a Big 12 or ACC team – it's my favorite CFP line, because I swear I've seen a little box behind glass that the committee goes to when it's in a pinch that says – … because it's Alabama.
There's still one more LSU loss coming somewhere – like, at Tennessee – but Alabama is everything in the brief history of the College Fo

Jim Bakker, who along with his first wife Tammy Faye built an evangelical empire around the hugely successful "The PTL Club" TV show, only to lose it all over a ****** scandal and financial crimes, has died. He was 86.
Bakker died Monday, his second wife, Lori Bakker, said in a statement. His cause of death was not immediately clear.
"He was a pioneer of Christian television, but to me, he was my husband, my best friend, and the man I was honored to walk beside through so many seasons of life and ministry," she said.
The pair lived near the Missouri entertainment town of Branson and filmed their TV show "The Jim Bakker Show" there since it launched in 2003. Bakker suffered a stroke in 2020.
But it was another evangelical program that made Jim and his first wife Tammy Faye Bakker cultural icons — so much so that they were often skewered in the 1980s and 1990s by late-night comedians and parodied on "Saturday Night Live." A theatrical movie on their lives, "The Eyes of Tammy Faye," was released in September 2021.

Taylor Swift is reportedly "livid" after Nikki Glaser told a Las Vegas audience that she attended Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding despite not knowing the couple, according to a report published Sept. 11 by entertainment industry insider Rob Shuter.
The comedian described the July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden as "the best night of my life as a Swiftie" and "the purest love I've ever witnessed." But she also said the invitation surprised her.
"I don't even know them, but I got invited," Glaser said, as quoted by the New York Post Page Six.

The Denver Broncos are on the road under the prime time lights of Monday Night Football to try to prove to the world that the AFC West has truly had a changing of the guard. These Kansas City Chiefs are a tough home opponent and it shouldn't be easy for Denver by any measure, but if they can pull off an upset and steal a road win in division it would be huge for their chances to repeat as AFC West champs this season.
Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. Mile High time on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. You can watch the live stream of the game through FuboTV or on ESPN. SPRINGFIELD — Missouri State secured its first win of the season with a 48-14 drubbing over FCS Lindenwood on Saturday, Sept. 12. In the win, the Bears still suffered some key injuries.
During head coach Casey Woods' press conference, he gave an update on the health of his roster on Monday, Sept. 14.
Linebacker Dylan Dixson is set to undergo neck surgery and will miss the season. Dixson did not feature against Lindenwood. His injury did not stem from one particular play, according to Woods.
"I hate that for him and it's something that we will have to fight through," Woods said. "Dylan has had kind of a lingering issue. We did some more research on it and felt like this was the time to correct it."

Kansas City, Missouri — Vice President JD Vance announced Monday the Trump administration will suspend roughly 870,000 people suspected of defrauding pandemic-era small business programs from receiving future federal loans.
The vice president contended that borrowers who stole taxpayer money should no longer be eligible to receive loans from government-backed programs.
"If you screwed the American taxpayer, the federal government is now going to say you're cut off, no more," Vance told reporters. "You shouldn't be applying anymore, and if you do apply, you're no longer able to get those benefits."
His remarks came as the Justice Department announced a slew of cases in a nationwide crackdown on fraud involving the COVID-19-era Paycheck Protection Program.
The department's enforcement push, which ran from June 12 through Sept. 1 and was dubbed "Heartland fraud surge," resulted in actions involving more than 160 defendants and approximately $245 million in intended losses to taxpayers. The operation was put into action more than five years after the government pushed emergency loans to businesses nationwide that were struggling as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The game time has been set for the Texas A&M Aggies and the LSU Tigers in their monstrous Week 4 matchup at the end of the month.
According to multiple reports, LSU will host the Aggies for a night game at Death Valley, with kickoff slated for 6:30 p.m. ET in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This will be the second consecutive meeting between Texas A&M and LSU in Baton Rouge, and the second-straight primetime matchup. The Aggies won last year's contest, 49-25.
After Week 2, Texas A&M is ranked No. 9 in the AP Top 25, while LSU sits at No. 7. Both teams are riding high after strong starts to the season, with the Aggies beating both Missouri State and Arizona State, while the Tigers have wins over Clemson and Louisiana Tech.
We have a week to wait until the matchup, with Texas A&M hosting Will Stein and the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend in College Station. Meanwhile, LSU will have a very tough top-10 matchup against the No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels, pitting coach Lane Kiffin against his former team and creating one of the most intriguing matchups of the college football season this coming Saturday.

The Kentucky Wildcats seemed very likely to cover the spread as they took a 17-13 lead into the break against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 2 action. The second half didn't bode well for the Cats, or those who put a few bucks on them to cover the double-digit spread. Kentucky was outscored 18-0 in the third quarter and then 14-0 in the fourth quarter. The final score was 45-17 Alabama.
Despite the final total, the Cats should've still held their head high, having limited Keelon Russell to 188 yards and one touchdown and forcing him into two interceptions. Kentucky defensive tackle Tavion Gadson had one of the best games of his career as well. Ultimately, the Cats failed to cover as they closed as an 8.5-point home underdog, with the Over (46.5) cashing as well. They did cover in their Week 1 45-13 throttling of Youngstown State.
Now, the spread is live for the Cats' Week 3 foe, as they take the trip to College Station to face the top-ten Texas A&M Aggies. Kentucky has opened as a 14.5-point underdog, which could be seen as a surprise given how Week 2 concluded. Here are the opening spreads for all the SEC games this upcoming weekend.
The Aggies crushed Missouri State 50-0 in Week 1 and then edged Arizona State 48-20 in Week 2, forcing former Kentucky starting quarterback Cutter Boley into two interceptions. Boley ended with 254 yards and 2 touchdowns.
For Kentucky, slowing down Aggies' quarterback Marcel Reed is going to be a challenge, as will be covering the spread. The Aggies come into this one 2-0 against the spread (ATS), having closed as a favorite of at each two touchdowns in each contest.

Josiah Trotter didn't waste any time introducing himself to the pros.
In his NFL debut with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the former Missouri football middle linebacker recorded a sack and a pick six. He intercepted Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown.
According to Greg Auman at FOXSports, Trotter is the first player in NFL history with a sack and pick six in their NFL debut.
Tampa Bay's communications department later added that Trotter is the first player to record a sack, an interception and five or more tackles in their debut since four-time All-Pro TJ Watt in 2017.
The Bucs lost 33-27 to the Bengals on Sunday in Cincinnati. Trotter led Tampa Bay's defense with 11 total tackles.

It was a back-and-forth battle against the Arizona State Sun Devils in the first half, but the Texas A&M Aggies put their foot on the pedal with two massive pick-sixes to seal a Week 2 victory at Kyle Field on Saturday afternoon.
One of the most integral improvements the Aggies wanted to make this offseason was forcing more turnovers. After recording no interceptions against Missouri State in the season opener, Marco Jones and Julio Humphrey took their picks to the house for six.
Meanwhile, electric wide receivers Mario Craver and Isaiah Horton hauled in a touchdown pass apiece, in what was a solid overall outing from the offensive playmakers. While there are still a plethora of adjustments to be made in the trenches, quarterback Marcel Reed still threw for 163 yards and three touchdowns, with just one interception.
In what was a record day for the 12th Man, the Maroon and White came through with a massive 48-20 win over the Big 12 representatives to move to 2-0 in 2026.
Here are some of the best social media reactions from Texas A&M's dominant victory over Arizona State in Week 2:

Missouri's Eli Drinkwitz blasts KU's Civil War-themed hype video after Border War win: 'We left Kansas bleeding again' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Few hype videos in recent college football history proved as eye-catching as Kansas' latest, released days before the Jayhawks took on rival Missouri in "The Border War."
The video referenced the region's precarious history, likening the actions of Missouri-based pro-slavery forces to villains compared to Kansas-born abolitionists like John Brown.
The Tigers answered the call on the field, downing the Jayhawks 38-21 on Friday night. Shortly after the game went final, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz had his say about the polarizing video, which garnered millions of views ahead of the tilt.

It's the middle of September and Pat Kelsey and company are still active in the transfer portal.
LJ Wells, a 6'8 power forward who played the last four seasons at Northern Kentucky, has committed to play for Louisville in 2026-27. Wells is the namesake plaintiff in the ongoing Wells vs. NCAA case in Jefferson County Circuit Court that earned a fifth-year of eligibility for players like Wells, D'Angelo Hutchinson, Jabari Mack, and Missouri hooper Mark Mitchell.
Wells started all 33 games for the Norse last season, posting career-best averages of 15.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He also earned All-Horizon Tournament Team honors after averaging 22.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 ***** ists while helping NKU to the Horizon League semis, where they fell to eventual champion Wright State.
It feels weird to be adding players like this, especially when you can't be 100 percent sure if they're even going to be able to play this winter, but this is a nice depth add at a position where U of L could definitely use some additional depth.
Welcome aboard, LJ.

Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz blasted Kansas for its Civil War–themed hype video ahead of Friday's "Border War" college football rivalry game.
"I was disappointed in the rivalry—the turn that it took today," Drinkwitz said after the Tigers beat the Jayhawks 38–21 in Lawrence. "I thought that was uncalled for."
Kansas released a controversial social media video on Thursday ahead of hosting Missouri for the first time since 2005.
"This rivalry is different, because it's built on something much deeper than just school pride," narrator and former Kansas football star Gilbert Brown said. "It's fueled by hatred, passed down through generations. Our roots reach back to the Civil War, when blood was spilt over what you believed in and which side you stood on. There are heroes and villains, only allegiance decides their legacy. There's right and wrong. There's Kansas and Missouri." The video has more than 35 million views on X/Twitter as of Saturday morning.
"This is about two teams playing football," Drinkwitz said. "Especially on 9/11, when we need more unity now than ever before, to be putting some stuff on your screen—celebrating—everybody's got complicated pasts, and to make that an icon was bizarre to me. So, I'm just glad that this whole right-versus-wrong bullcrap that was started just got settled on a football field."

Eli Drinkwitz doesn't usually mince words. While mostly affable, the Missouri head coach doesn't always subscribe to tact. He's not to afraid to say how he feels.
He certainly didn't pull any punches after his No. 23 Tigers squad humbled Kansas on the road Friday night in the latest iteration of the schools' "Border Showdown." Missouri (2-0) handed the Jayhawks (1-1) a 38-21 defeat that could have looked even more lopsided had a head-turning shot to the end zone not fallen incomplete in the game's waning moments at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.
That potential death knell resulted from Drinkwitz's frustration toward Kansas and the way the Jayhawks brazenly approached the programs' longstanding yet complicated rivalry in the lead-up to the matchup.
Kansas leaned into the Civil War history between the two states, posting a pregame hype video framed as "heroes vs. villains" with the social media caption, "It is that deep." Drinkwitz wasn't amused and fundamentally disagreed.
"I get there's a past to it, but why are we stirring that bull **** up? It's 9/11," Drinkwitz said postgame on Friday, the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

When the Miami Dolphins take the field on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, a trio of first-year players have the potential to collectively make NFL history. Three of Miami's 13 selections from the 2026 NFL Draft were wide receivers Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman Jr.
Douglas was Miami's first receiver taken during this past April's draft when the Dolphins used pick No. 75 on the Texas Tech product. Bell from Louisville was selected with pick No. 94, and Coleman Jr. with pick No. 177 out of Missouri.
While a rare occurrence in any team class, there have been several instances where three receivers were selected by one team in a single draft. In fact, the Dolphins last tripled up at the position in 1975 with Freddie Solomon, Morris Owens and Leonard Isabell.
What has never happened before in league history is three drafted receivers each recording a reception during Week 1 of their rookie season. Douglas, Bell and Coleman could be that lone trio come Sunday. There have been a few close hits, but in the dozen or so cases, Miami's young trio could break the ice.
For Miami in 1975, none of these three recorded a catch back in Week 1 when they lost to the Oakland Raiders. Back in 2014, the Jacksonville Jaguars had three wideouts haul in a catch during Week 1 as rookies, but only two were actual draft selections.

Eli Drinkwitz turned his postgame news conference in Lawrence toward a 90-second video on Friday night, a few hours after Missouri had settled the 122nd Border War 38-21 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
The clip, ******* led "Heroes and Villains" and narrated by former Kansas nose tackle Gilbert Brown, went up on the Jayhawks' social accounts on Thursday and reached back to the Civil War fighting along the state line, splicing in images of John Brown and William Quantrill under a narration line about right and wrong, Kansas and Missouri.
Kansas ran it again on the videoboard shortly before kickoff. Drinkwitz was asked about it once the Tigers had moved to 2-0, and he did not stop at one sentence.

Texas A&M football's is looking for another 2-0 start under Mike Elko.
Since talking over in College Station, the former Duke head coaco has had really strong Septembers. He's 8-0 in this month, including last week's beatdown.
To open 2026, the Aggies got off to a bit of slow start in before demolishing the Missouri State Bears 50-0. A&M scored just one touchdown on its first four drives. Then, the Aggies flipped the switch. A&M quarterback Marcel Reed threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-30 passing, while the defense forced three fumbles and gave up 67 yards of offense.
MORE: What Texas A&M must do to make the CFP
The Sun Devils should be a much bigger challenge than the Bears of Conference USA. Head coach Kenny Dillingham has led his alma mater to a 19-8 record over the past two seasons, including a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. Arizona State began its fourth year under Dillingham by crushing Morgan State 70-7, with quarterback Cutter Boley throwing for 387 yards and six touchdowns on 21-of-27 passing.

Speaking with Fox's Josh Sims on the field, Drinkwitz was mid-answer praising his team's resilience when he spotted trouble behind him. "Our guys didn't flinch. Kansas football's Civil War-themed hype video released ahead of Friday's Border War rivalry game against Missouri did not sit well with Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz.
The Tigers' seventh-year coach shared his thoughts on the video following his team's 38-21 victory over the Jayhawks at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Friday, Sept. 11 in Lawrence, Kansas. Missouri's victory marked the Tigers' fifth straight win in the rivalry series.
He went so far as to say he was "embarrassed" for the Jayhawks for posting the video.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — It was that deep for Missouri football.
Before Friday night's Border War matchup, the second in the revived rivalry between two of college football's fiercest foes, Kansas posted a video to its social media accounts that made blunt, hardly subtle references to the rivalry's roots and the Civil War.
There were snippets of various Civil War-era figures, including John Brown and William Quantrill. Included in the 90-second clip narrated by former KU nose tackle Gilbert Brown, was the phrase "there's right and wrong, there's Kansas and Missouri."
It went viral. The Jayhawks played it again on the videoboard shortly before kickoff at David Booth Family Memorial Stadium.
That, in no uncertain terms, rubbed Mizzou and its head coach the wrong way.
