In a deal first reported by The Times and the Financial Times, FIFA is planning to raise an estimated $4.2 billion in 2026 by selling a reported 20% minority stake in a new subsidiary at an equity valuation of $20 billion.
FIFA confirmed the plans in an announcement on Tuesday morning, which said the new company would be called FIFA Forward Enterprise and would control the nonprofit organization's "commercial and event operations."

Manchester City have confirmed that midfielder Rodri has successfully undergone minor back surgery, with the Spain international now set to begin his recovery ahead of the new season.
The Premier League club released a statement on Tuesday announcing that the procedure had gone as planned after the midfielder had been dealing with persistent discomfort.
"Manchester City can confirm that Rodri has successfully undergone minor back surgery. The midfielder had been experiencing discomfort for some time, but has now undergone a procedure to address the issue and will begin a short period of rehabilitation."
According to MARCA, Rodri traveled to Madrid on Monday to undergo the operation, which was performed to address the lingering back issue. The report adds that the procedure was considered minor and did not require the midfielder to remain hospitalized.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca also commented on Rodri's situation, explaining that the Spaniard will take time to recover before rejoining the squad.

The 2026 college football season is nearly here! On Tuesday, Big Ten Media Days begin in Chicago, marking the unofficial start of the year. This year's event will be three days long, with six schools going on each day. USC is scheduled for the first day.
Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti will kick off the day with his introductory press conference at 8:45 AM Pacific Time Tuesday. He will be followed by the head coaches from USC, Illinois, Rutgers, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
Lincoln Riley will be the last head coach of the day to speak. His press conference will be at approximately 10:45 AM Pacific Time. Both Riley and Petitti's press conferences will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
In addition, the Big Ten Network studio set will be having players and coaches on throughout the day. Riley will join the set between 11:15 AM and noon Pacific Time. USC quarterback Jayden Maiava and defensive linemen Alex VanSumeren and Jide Abasiri will be interviewed between 1:00 and 1:30 PM.
USC is heading into its third season in the Big Ten. After going 7-2 in conference play and finishing in fourth place in the league standings last year, the Trojans are hoping to put together an even better campaign in 2026.

The MLB and NHL Network host announced on social media Friday that she and her husband, Patrick, had decided to return to Colorado to be closer to family as they begin a new chapter together.
"Lauren's been a fantastic colleague and friend to us all throughout her eight years here in Secaucus," the networks said, confirming her departure in a joint statement to Awful Announcing. "We thank her for the wonderful contributions she's given across our platforms and projects, and we wish her nothing but the absolute best as she heads back home to Colorado."
Gardner first arrived in Secaucus in March 2019 for DAZN's baseball coverage, which was co-produced by MLB Network out of its own studios in Secaucus. The move capped a long, unconventional climb chronicled the same month by The Athletic's Ryan S. Clark, who profiled Gardner as she prepared to leave behind the Colorado sports scene for what ended up being seven years in New York/New Jersey.
A Denver native, Gardner had spent that stretch working the Avalanche and Nuggets beats for Altitude Sports, but her path there ran through nearly every odd job the local sports world had to offer. As for the women, there was the T20 World Cup and the one-off Test between India and England. And now, it is the turn of The Hundred, which began on July 21.

The Hundred, the unique tournament featuring 100-ball innings, is back with its sixth edition. Much has changed, and yet not a lot has changed. It still has eight teams, still features 100-ball innings where bowlers can bowl spells of five or 10 consecutive ****** , and is still objectively meant to quicken the game and feature double headers - men and women - on the same day.

On the opening day, defending men's champions MI London beat Sunrisers Leeds at The Oval. In the day's first game, Sunrisers edged MI London by 7 wickets in the women's competition. A day later, in Southampton, Southern Brave women narrowly got the better of Welsh Fire. And the men's match later in the day had the reverse outcome.

What's changed is the ownership, the team names, and the kit designs. With kids two and under going free, tickets for 3-15-year-olds are worth £5, and tickets for adults start from as little as £14. So, an entire young family could see two consecutive cricket matches, spanning about five hours or over, for £30-40.

TAMPA − Florida football coach Jon Sumrall said the Gators have "two starting QBs" right now and offered no timeline on a decision to name a starter before UF's season opener on Sept. 5 against Florida Atlantic (7:45 p.m., SEC Network).
Sumrall enters his first fall camp with the Florida Gators undecided on whether to start redshirt sophomore Aaron Philio or redshirt freshman Tramell Jones Jr. at quarterback.
"I've met with both of those guys individually," Sumrall said at SEC Football Media Day. "I'll meet with them before we start training camp together. I'll meet with the whole room. Just because you start game 1 doesn't mean you start game 12 ... my timeline might be five minutes before a game before anybody finds out."

We're almost there, folks: training camp.
While the NFL offseason is tediously long, I'm usually fine and adequately preoccupied with baseball and the usual summer activities that fill evenings and weekends. The World Cup was also a welcome distraction this year.
Nonetheless, when the MLB All-Star Break hits, the itch becomes impossible to scratch, and football season can't arrive soon enough.
The focus will be on the quarterback competition. Since I last touched on the topic a few weeks ago, the odds have shifted ever so slightly in J.J. McCarthy's favor (-770, 88.5% implied probability, down from -1000, 90.9%).
Regardless, it can still comfortably be filed under "shock" if Kyler Murray isn't under center in Week 1. How I feel and what I want are utterly irrelevant. The important thing is that the Vikings' front office has secured the appropriate insurance policy with Murray and (a healthy) Carson Wentz to ensure last year's quarterback situation is not repeated. Good luck to Kyler and J.J., and whatever happens, happens.

The return of wide receivers Dakorien Moore and Evan Stewart from an injury-impacted 2025 is the most important offensive development for Oregon this fall. Both are former 5-star recruits with explosive skill sets, and the upside is enormous if they can stay healthy and produce at the level their talent suggests.
Before Stewart's season-long injury, he produced 613 yards and five touchdowns in 2024. He flashed the upside to be one of the top playmakers in the country.

CHICAGO (AP) — Roch Cholowsky has agreed to a contract with the Chicago White Sox that includes a record-breaking $10.35 million signing bonus after he was the No. 1 overall pick in last weekend's amateur draft.
A person familiar with the contract confirmed the agreement to the AP on Tuesday because it hadn't been announced by the team.
The slot value for the top pick this year was $11,350,600. Cholowsky's bonus tops the previous mark of $9.25 million for the amateur draft that belonged to Reds pitcher Chase Burns and Rockies prospect Charlie Condon, two of the top three selections in 2024.
Cholowsky, a 6-foot-2 shortstop who turned 21 in April, hit .320 with 21 homers, 60 RBIs and a 1.088 OPS in 60 games this season for UCLA.

49ers tight end George Kittle has targeted Week 1 for his return since tearing his right Achilles in a Jan. 11 playoff game against the Eagles. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk expressed optimism over the weekend that Kittle will play in the season opener against the Rams in Australia.
"I really [do] feel that way," Juszczyk told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area at the American Century Championship. "I was so impressed by the way he was moving [at Tight End U], and I was impressed the last week of OTAs, how he was moving. He was doing this zigzag drill, and he told me he had reached like 16 miles an hour that day. I was already impressed with that.
"But then, seeing him go through that warm-up, I was like, 'Wow, I really do think there is a chance that he's ready for Week 1.'"
Kittle made his seventh career Pro Bowl last season despite playing only 11 regular-season games due to hamstring and ankle injuries. He then required surgery to repair his Achilles after the playoff victory over Philadelphia, missing the divisional playoff loss to the Seahawks.
Kittle has repeatedly said he is ahead of schedule in his rehab, but the 49ers are sure to be deliberate with his practice schedule.

NEW DELHI: Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes Andy Flower is the ideal candidate to replace Brendon McCullum as England's Test head coach following the end of the 'Bazball' era. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Sunday that McCullum will step down as Test coach after four years in charge but will continue to lead England's ODI and T20 teams.

McCullum's departure came after England lost the Ashes 1-4 in Australia and suffered seven defeats in their last nine Test matches, including a recent home series loss to New Zealand.

Hussain said England need someone with great attention to detail and believes Flower is the perfect fit.

"For me, the best person for that would be Andy Flower by a country mile. Flower took England to number one in the world. I love Flower's approach to coaching - he was meticulous in everything that he did," Hussain told Sky Sports News.

He added that those qualities have been missing from England's Test team in recent years.

"That's what's been lacking in this England Test match side. I would do anything if I was Rob Key (ECB Managing Director) and the ECB to go and get Andy Flower."
Hussain also questioned the ECB's decision to hand both the red-ball and white-ball coaching roles to McCullum.

"I don't think it was the right thing to do for Rob Key to give both the white-ball and the Test jobs to the same person. I think it's the right thing now for McCullum to focus on white-ball cricket. Giving McCullum [all the roles] was a mistake with the modern schedule"

He believes McCullum is better suited to the limited-overs format.

"[On Saturday], they won at Southampton, they are the number one T20 ranked team in the world - I think his coaching style is suited for white-ball cricket," he said.

Hussain praised McCullum for transforming England's Test side after taking charge in 2022 alongside captain Ben Stokes.

Under McCullum, England played an aggressive brand of cricket that became known as 'Bazball' and recorded memorable series wins over New Zealand and Pakistan, while drawing the 2023 home Ashes series 2-2.

However, Hussain believes recent performances made a coaching change unavoidable.

"No one is overly thrilled when a coach loses his job, and you do have to remember the great times that McCullum gave us," Hussain said.

"He is a coach that the brand of cricket - 'Bazball' - was named after. From where England were before him and Stokes, I think it would be wrong not to mention the way they played at the start. They were an absolute joy to watch. In the end, it's been a run of seven losses in the last nine Test matches, and with the manner of those defeats, I think it was about the right time," the former captain said.

Uruguay were the only South American team not to make it out of the group stage, in what was a very disappointing campaign from La Celeste. They had a decent squad and a favourable draw. However, the local media heading into the tournament were talking about the breakdown in internal cohesion, and those concerns were evident straight away against Saudi Arabia, who controlled much of the first half and deservedly took the lead through Abdulelah Al-Amri just before half-time.
Despite all the criticism of coach Marcelo Bielsa, it was his changes at half-time, taking off Matias Viña and Darwin Núñez, and bringing on Juan Sanabria and Agustín Canobbio, that changed the balance of the second half. Uruguay pretty much dominated after the break and were unlucky not to win the game. They found an equaliser through Maximiliano Araújo, who was definitely one of the bright sparks for La Celeste throughout the tournament.
However, they just didn't kick on from that performance.

Arthur Fery will climb 78 ranking places and enter the world's top 40 after the British wildcard reached the Wimbledon semi-finals with a brilliant victory over Flavio Cobolli.
The 23-year-old entered Wimbledon ranked 114th in the world but will rise to 36th in the world, making him the new British No 1, after becoming only the second wildcard to reach the semi-finals at the Championships.
Fery was ranked outside the world's top 300 this time last year and only cracked the world's top 200 in October. He entered the world's top 100, a significant career milestone, after beating Zizou Bergs in the third round.
Should Fery continue his remarkable Wimbledon run and upset second seed Alexander Zverev in Friday's semi-finals, the French-born Fery will head to the US Open inside the top 30 in the world and could even be seeded for the final grand slam of the season. He started the 2026 season by qualifying for the Australian Open.
Fery is also set to double his career earnings in prize money by advancing to the semi-finals, where he will receive £900,000 for reaching the final four of the tournament. Fery would earn £1.8m should he make it to the final, where the champion will win £3.6m.

Golden Tempo captured the hearts of the sporting world with dramatic wins in both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes in the Spring. With the high-profile Summer Stakes races getting under way, trainer Cherie DeVaux has mapped out a plan for her prized three-year-old colt that has him training up to his next start in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga on August 29.
In winning the world's most famous race, Golden Tempo placed himself as a real player in the Thoroughbred game. Last down the backstretch, lightning struck as this stretch-running son of Curlin thundered home with powerful strides and won the Kentucky Derby at odds of 23 to 1 under a brilliant ride from jockey Jose Ortiz. The more you replay Derby 152, the more amazing it becomes as this miraculous run was nothing short of Golden.
After bypassing the Preakness Stakes, the Golden Tempo team went to Saratoga for the Belmont Stakes with something to prove. After becoming the first female to condition a Kentucky Derby champion, DeVaux was eager to show she was not a rising female trainer but just a rising trainer period. Tempo carried that 23 to 1 moniker into the starting gates as other entrants were favored over him as some viewed him as a "lucky" winner on the first Saturday in May. And then the gates opened and Golden Tempo set the record straight. Breaking from the outside post in a 9-horse field, the Phipps Stables and St. Elias Stables owned colt careened up the backstretch looking at all the others. When the real running started, there was Golden Tempo confidently crushing it down the stretch. Rolling to the finish a powerful length and a quarter to the good, there was no doubt as to who the best three-year-old was on that day and in this 2026 crop.

A new study from Mass General Brigham, Boston University, and the Concussion & CTE Foundation has concluded that NFL players have a higher risk of death due to neurodegenerative disease than the general population.
Nearly four times higher.
“This is the clearest population-level evidence we have ever had that NFL players are dying due to neurodegenerative disease at real and measurably higher rates,” said Dr. Daniel Daneshvar, the Chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School and director of the HealthSpan Lab. “This study demonstrates that, when looking at athletes who have played in an NFL game, including nearly 20,000 players, across every official cause of death, the result is the same: NFL players are dying of dementia and Parkinson’s disease three to four times more often than they should.”
The broad term "neurodegenerative disease" includes ALS, Parkinson's disease, and dementia.
Length of NFL career, not surprisingly, was a factor. The study found that players with five or more seasons had "nearly double the risk" of neurodegenerative death in comparison to those who spent one-to-four years in the NFL.

After what was a decent overall performance from the German national team at EURO 2024 on home soil where they were a Marc Cucurella non-called handball away from progressing to the semifinals, Die Mannschaft came crashing back to earth at this summer’s World Cup.
From the EUROs under Julian Nagelsmann, there was some renewed belief after disaster World Cups in 2022 in Qatar and 2018 in Russia where Germany failed to make it out of their groups and EURO 2020 had a different air about it knowing that it was Joachim Löw’s last act as manner. The knowledge of a forthcoming managerial change made crashing out against England at Wembley in the round of 16 a bit less painful, though the images of THAT Thomas Müller second half miss 1v1 with Jordan Pickford still haunts Germany fans.
Now, change is on the horizon again and Jürgen Klopp is set to take over the Germany job to replace Nagelsmann after the DFB essentially gave him the chance to resign himself as opposed to axing him outright after crashing out of the World Cup. While the final details get sorted out, Klopp will finish out his punditry duties with MagentaTV and eventually activate the release clause in his contract with Red Bull GmbH as their head of global football that’s specifically for taking the Germany job.
Klopp and managing the national team is a match that a lot of Germans have been begging for since he called it quits at Liverpool. Now, though, the time has come to actually turn that dream into a reality and out Germany back on the top of the pedestal it was on in 2014 in Brazil.
The big question loom large for now. Will the 2026 World Cup failure and bringing in Klopp fuel inspired runs at EURO 2028 and World Cup 2030?
