Bayern Munich was rumored to have interest in a few defenders during the summer, but nothing material emerged when it came to center-backs.
As it stands, the Bavarians seem content to go into the season with Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, Kim Min-jae, and Hiroki Itō as the quartet in central defense.
"We're talking about competition, which I like and which is something I've personally experienced. I played in the same roles as Minjae, Upamecano, and Tah. The most important thing is proving yourself on the pitch. I have to compliment Minjae: the way he presents himself, the way he performs on the pitch – and the fact that he doesn't talk. He always has the right answer in every situation: his performances have always been top-notch for us. For me, it's important to see him deliver the way he does. And accordingly, the others have to deliver as well. That's what I want in every position, not just at center-back," Kompany said (as captured by iMiaSanMia).
As of now, Upamecano and Tah seem to be far clear of Kim and Itō, but there could be an opportunity for more playing time if Kompany opts to use his bench more to keep players healthy and fresh. Maybe, Kim and Itō will get ample chances to prove themselves along the way this season — something that might benefit the club.

After enjoying a wide range of two-start options last week, fantasy baseball managers will need to live with a more moderate list for the current scoring period. Still, there are four serviceable options on this list, depending on a manager's level of risk tolerance. On the hitting side, the Rays are the top source of short-term help, while the Phillies could have some great options for those in shallow leagues.
Sean Manaea, Mets, 15% (@ CLE, @ PIT): Since rejoining the rotation on June 13, Manaea has posted a 3.88 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB ratio across nine starts. And his road hasn't been easy, as he has faced clubs that currently hold a playoff spot in seven of those nine outings. The southpaw has thrown six or more innings in three of his past four starts and should have a productive week against the Guardians and Pirates, who rank 27th and 20th, respectively, in OPS vs. lefties.
Ian Seymour, Rays, 40% (@ COL, @ SEA): Although the Rays are keeping him on a short leash, Seymour is showing strong skills (90:28 K:BB ratio). The southpaw's most recent start was a prime example, as he earned a win by following an opener and throwing 4.2 scoreless innings. Although an outing at Coors Field will be challenging, Seymour has pitched well enough to get the benefit of the doubt, especially when his second matchup is a favorable one against a Seattle squad that ranks 29th in OPS vs. lefties.
J.T. Ginn, Athletics, 34% (@ CIN, @ BOS): A breakout season for Ginn was briefly interrupted when he spent the past two weeks on the injured list while dealing with a blister on his right middle finger. The southpaw induces oodles of groundballs and has solid strikeout skills, which has allowed him to post a 3.47 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 19 starts despite walking more batters than he should (4.1 BB/9 rate). He would rank slightly higher on this list if not for the unknown factor of how effective he will be in his return from injury.
Brandon Pfaadt, Diamondbacks, 29% (vs. SD, vs. LAD): Since altering his delivery and pitch mix, Pfaadt has finally become a reliable starter. The right-hander has logged a 1.85 ERA and 1.06 WHIP while showing outstanding control skills (4 BB) over six starts since rejoining the rotation on June 30.

The Seattle Seahawks are the defending world champions, having defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX back in February to lay claim to the second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.
Now, with the calendar having turned to August and training camps across the league underway, the Seahawks are building towards defending that ****** le.
Saturday the team inked former a former undrafted free agent linebacker to the roster.
Joseph Vaughn spent the first five years of his college career in the Ivy League at Yale before transferring to UCLA for the 2024 season. At UCLA Vaughn logged just seven defensive snaps that season, but was a key member of the special teams for the Bruins, seeing 182 snaps of action on both the punt and kick coverage and return units.
Vaughn signed with the Indianapolis Colts after going undrafted in 2025, but failed to make the roster out of training camp. He then signed a future contract after the season, but was let go during the offseason.

Hull City transfer target Mert Kömür did not suffer a serious injury in FC Augsburg's 5-2 friendly defeat to AFC Bournemouth.
After Thursday's game, head coach Manuel Baum confirmed this at the start of the training camp in Achenkirch, Austria.
However, the Augsburger Allegemine believes Augsburg may still have to do without Kömür in their upcoming training sessions.
"It's nothing structural, but it's painful," Baum explained, according to the Augsburger Allgemeine, regarding Kömür.
The 21-year-old had reportedly already gone into the friendly with a slightly injured ankle having taken a knock beforehand.

Three-time Commonwealth medallist Rosie Eccles has retired from boxing following defeat in Glasgow.
Eccles settled for bronze, to add to the gold and silver she won at previous Games, after a split-decision defeat in Friday's semi-final.
In an emotional interview after the narrow loss, the Welsh fighter confirmed she is hanging up her gloves before launching a verbal attack on "awful" people who tried to "end" her career.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will miss the start of the new season due to injury.
Gomez, 29, was forced off within 10 minutes of Liverpool's first friendly of pre-season against Sunderland after suffering a muscle issue.
Liverpool went on to win that game in Nashville 4-2 without their longest serving player, but manager Andoni Iraola nevertheless admitted that Gomez's setback was "probably the worst news" he could have been dealt on his managerial bow for the Reds.
Iraola has now confirmed Gomez will face a spell on the sidelines and while he does not yet know for how long, he says it will be "impossible" for the Englishman to make a return before Liverpool's Premier League opener against Newcastle on 23 August.
Speaking at a press conference in Chicago on Thursday morning, he said: "Joe has a muscle injury. I think it was quite clear since he complained straight away so it will depend how he evolves, but he will be some weeks off.

The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back an old friend. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is signing a 1-year deal worth $7 million. This comes after the news that Ricky Pearsall might not play in 2026. Earlier on Thursday we asked what Deebo was up to. We're about to find out.
Deebo needs no introduction. He spent the entireity of his career in the Bay Area before a one-year stint with the Commanders last year. Samuel saw more targets last season than he had since 2021. He finished the season with 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns.
Most of Deebo's targets came near the line of scrimmage. His average air yards per target was the lowest since 2022, at 5.3. Of those 99 targets, 67 came under 10 yards.
Washington used Samuel primarily as a slot receiver. He ran 260 routes in the slot, compared to 141 out wide. It's worth noting that Samuel also ran 15 routes from the backfield. If the 49ers are looking for somebody to take some of the workload off Christian McCaffrey with Jordan James sidelined, who better than the player who we coined the term "wideback" for?
We're projecting here, but Samuel would likely play in the slot while Stribling gets familiar with "Z." That is, unless Demarcus Robinson or Christian Kirk prove that they can contribute as outside receivers in this offense.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The solution to quarterback Caleb Williams' accuracy issues has Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson bringing up a familiar number.
With training camp underway in his second season, Johnson said he is again expecting a 70% completion rate this year after his third-year quarterback failed to come close to that designated figure last year at 58.1%.
Williams believes he can record a higher percentage without flat-out predicting he'll approach the magic number.
Achieving it will require something he didn't do in his first two seasons, after being the No. 1 pick of the 2024 draft and then leading Chicago to an NFC North **** le in 2025.
"Just hit the easy ones when they're there," Williams said. "Be in rhythm with myself. Be confident in my guys, be confident within the play. Deliver a good ball. Deliver a catchable ball.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was a player. He knows the difference between playing on real grass and playing on fake grass. His team plays its home games on fake grass, even though the stadium had real grass for the World Cup.
Vrabel was asked about the issue of real grass vs. fake grass during his first press conference of 2026 training camp. He avoided addressing the question.
"My take is we would play anywhere we possibly have to," Vrabel said. "That's my take. It's the kind of football team that I want to create — one that doesn't make excuses, that doesn't care what the environment is. We're going to go open the season in a great environment in Seattle, and we're going to play on grass, we're going to play on turf, and it's going to rain, it's going to snow. There's a lot of things that are going to come up, and my job is to make sure that we're prepared for whatever does happen."
That's fine, but what does he think about the fact that 92 percent of the players prefer real grass? Does he prefer real grass? Does he always practice on real grass, even when the Patriots are preparing to play a game on fake grass?
It's a tough spot for any coach of any team whose owners have decided to play home games on the surface that the players don't prefer. The fact that Vrabel didn't answer the question says plenty about what he personally thinks about the issue.

The Atlanta Braves have some important decisions to make in the near future. Ronald Acuña Jr. is nearing a return from his second hamstring injury of the season, which will force the team to make some difficult roster decisions.
The Braves have players such as Brewer Hicklen, Dom Smith, and Jorge Mateo who could be on the chopping block. However, it cannot be forgotten that Ha-Seong Kim is also nearing a return.
“Not far behind the former MVP is the $20 million shortstop Ha-Seong Kim. We all know the story of Kim's struggles thus far in 2026, but reports out of Gwinnett mention HSK is finding more consistent hard contact during his rehab outing,” HTHB’s Chase Owens wrote.
While Kim has been sidelined, the legend of Jim Jarvis has continued to grow in Atlanta. This time last year, the Braves acquired Jarvis in a move that did not seem significant at the time. Now, he has emerged as a legitimate challenge to Kim for playing time.

PHOENIX — The Athletics placed right-hander J.T. Ginn on the 15-day injured list with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand.
The move is retroactive to when Ginn threw 6 1/3 shutout innings while striking out seven and walking three in a 15-1 victory over Washington. For the season, Ginn is 8-6 with a 3.46 ERA in 109 1/3 innings, including 19 starts.
The Athletics recalled right-hander Mason Barnett from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the roster spot. Barrett was 1-0 with a 4.64 ERA in 21 1/3 innings in his earlier relief appearances for the team, though he was working as a starter in the minors.
The A’s have a season-high 11 players on the injured list.

In a game that first crawled due to a deluge of walks (but few runs) and then saw dueling late-inning paroxysms in each team’s final time at the plate, the Braves eventually emerged victorious. But boy, was it a winding path to get there.
At the beginning of this contest, things seemed like they were going to drag on forever with little to show for it. After a one-walk, no other action first from Martin Perez, the Braves took aim at Michael King, who dominated them a few weeks ago in San Diego, and…
…he did not dominate this time. In fact, King walked the first three batters he faced, grimacing and looking generally uncomfy all the while. A groundout from Michael Harris II plated a run, but both Austin Riley and Mike Yastrzemski kind of lost the plot and went down looking. Yastrzemski, in particular, looked at five straight pitches to end the inning… the Braves’ track record with guys skimping on rehab **** ignments this year is looking abysmal.
Staked to a small lead, Perez did his normal thing — it just happened to work out this time. He walked two in the second, but then recovered with two punchouts. The Braves got a couple of singles against a resurgent-ish King in the bottom of the inning, but Ozzie Albies struck out on a changeup that was literally in the other batter’s box. There was another walk from Perez, this time of the leadoff variety, in the third, but nothing else. King followed suit, but again, nothing doing from the bats. Perez had a quicker fourth, three up and three down thanks to a double play. Meanwhile, the Braves kinda-sorta tried to rally against King with a leadoff double from Mauricio Dubon and an infield single by Brewer Hicklen, but two weak flyouts kept it a 1-0 game.
Some combination of “Perez didn’t have a rehab **** ignment and had thrown 75 pitches” and “Perez had a 3/4 K/BB ratio in four innings” ultimately convinced the Braves to go to the bullpen for the fifth. Dylan Dodd came in and was delicious, throwing an 11-pitch frame with two strikeouts and a first-pitch groundout. King stayed in, and worked around a two-out single. Didier Fuentes followed Dodd and had to work a little harder (18 pitches), but had his two strikeouts, one groundout inning all the same. King’s night finished with a flourish, a nine-pitch frame that featured a strikeout of Hicklen. He rebounded and once again mystified the Braves despite the rocky start, with a 7/4 K/BB ratio — a 7/1 K/BB ratio after the first three batters.

Luis Peña, 19, is currently at High-A Wisconsin and ranks as Milwaukee's No. 2 prospect (MLB No. 18). Signed in the January 2024 international class out of the Dominican Republic, he's hitting .314/.415/.430 with a homer, seven doubles, two triples, 17 RBIs, 30 runs, and 21 steals across 35 games this year. He was also one of two prospects named to the NL Futures squad for last week's All-Star festivities (alongside Made).
Jett Williams, 22, was drafted in the first round of the 2022 draft by the Mets and was sent to Milwaukee in the Freddy Peralta trade. Ranked as the team's No. 5 prospect (MLB No. 78), he's had a bit of an up-and-down season, hitting .234/.341/.385 with nine homers, nine doubles, five triples, 41 RBIs, 60 runs, and 21 steals across 80 games with Triple-A Nashville.

The 2026 World Cup has seen the "hydration break" become a point of contention, with in-stadium fans repeatedly booing (and the FIFA-fearful broadcasters not inclined to mention it) and Fox laughing all the way to the bank.
Fox is widely expected to make at least half of its total World Cup rights fee of $485 million through the pressing of the three-minute-per-half Bobby Boucher ****** on.
So what's the future of hydration breaks? John Ourand of Puck reports that senior FIFA officials are "torn" on the issue. They continue to hear complaints from interests beyond the U.S., and FIFA is "thin-skinned" on the issue. (Imagine that — a rich and powerful sports league being thin-skinned.)
On the other hand, money.
As Ben Strauss of ESPN recently explained, broadcast-rights deals for soccer aren't on the same trajectory as the ever-increasing NFL TV contracts. Instead, the rights fees are shrinking. One simple way to increase revenue for the games is to give the broadcast partners a way to generate more revenue during the broadcast.

Golden State has had its fair share of Finals battles against James throughout his career. Now, Stephen Curry is trying to convince James to join him in the Bay Area.
“Pairing him with Stephen Curry is going to be something that the Warriors are going to pursue over the next few weeks… It seemed very doubtful, it seemed low percentage, now it’s kind of questionable. Now there’s going to be some legs to this… That same source told us that Steph is planning on meeting and talking with LeBron about potentially joining the Warriors over the course of the next few weeks leading up to free agency,” NBA insider Brett Siegel said.
Curry was not the only Warriors player to make his pitch to James. Draymond Green has also made his case for why James should join Golden State.

Just two weeks ago, the Boston Celtics shocked the NBA by trading one of their homegrown franchise superstars in Jaylen Brown to a division rival in the Philadelphia 76ers. The return was criticized by many, as the Celtics only received a highly expensive and aging Paul George, along with two first round picks and two second round picks.
On the surface, this trade looks like a total fiasco for the Celtics. They replaced a Brown in his prime with an old George, and didn’t get as many picks as they were hoping for either. However, this trade might have been the best thing the Celtics could have done if you inspect closer.

First and foremost, the Celtics would not have been able to afford to keep Brown anyway, not with his extension eligibility coming up. Looks at Cleveland Cavaliers franchise superstar Donovan Mitchell: He was just extended for four years, $273 million. By the end of that contract, he will be making a whopping $75 million per year.

In an NFL memo Adam Schefter posted at 3:56 p.m. PST on Saturday afternoon, we learned that Neeru Khosla will officially serve as the Seattle Seahawks new controlling owner after the franchise's recent sale to the Khosla family and several limited partners.
The memo also mentions her husband Vinod, the tech investor who holds a net worth of over $13.7 billion, who's been the main name reported as the buyer of the Seahawks. According to The Hindustan Times, he's the world's 217th richest person. It says Neeru is an educator and entrepreneur, She has experience on the West Coast, having attended two of it's biggest universities in Stanford and San Jose State, earning a master's degree in molecular biology and studying gene expression.
The memo specifically mentions "Neeru Khosla, who would serve as the controlling owner," meaning the Seahawks will have a second straight female owner in row after Jody Allen. In seven years since her father Paul passed away in 2018, Jody allowed John Schneider, Pete Carroll and Mike Macdonald to advance the franchise, ensuring they would receive any help possible from ownership to see their vision through on the field. It'd be fascinating to know what advice Allen might share with Khosla, but there's plenty of hope the latter will learn from the former's approach of favoring the football operations and seeing the business thrive as a result.

The 2026 Home Run Derby is here.
This year's event is set for Monday, July 13, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Of the eight participants, five are from the American League and seven will participate in the MLB All-Star Game the following day.
The Home Run Derby will have a slightly different look this season. Hitters will no longer compete under a clock and instead will have a finite number of swings to take in each round.
Hitters will get 20 swings in the first round and 15 swings in both the semifinals and finals. If a player homers on the final swing of any round, he can continue hitting until a swing does not result in a home run.

While Georges has long had size and arm strength, his path to being a high-level Draft prospect was anything but certain. As a sophomore at Clovis High School outside of Fresno, California, Georges blew out his elbow and required Tommy John surgery. He returned to the mound in time for league play as a junior in 2025, then put the injury further in his rearview by throwing at a myriad of summer showcase events, including Major League Baseball's All-American Game, Perfect Game National and the Area Code Games. While Georges' senior year has had some ups and downs, he still brings an ideal 6-foot-5 pitching frame to the mound with the chance to have a quality three-pitch mix with excellent metrics under the surface. He'll throw his fastball in the 92-96 mph range; it can have carry and ride, and he also has a two-seamer with good sink. He'll flash a plus low-80s slider that can miss bats, giving him an effective sinker-sweeper combination at times. He's shown glimpses of a very solid 84-85 mph changeup with sink and fade he'll throw to hitters on both sides of the plate. Georges hasn't always thrown quality strikes this spring, and at times, things can snowball for him on the mound. He'll also be 19 come Draft time, which might ding him in some teams' models. Even so, his stuff and the data behind it could be enough to get teams interested in signing him away from his commitment to Texas Christian.
