Getafe president Angel Torres has confirmed that the club could pursue a deal for Sergio Ramos after holding talks with the defender's representatives.
However, a move for the former Real Madrid captain is not currently a priority.
The Spanish side recently signed Dani Carvajal, and they are keeping the door open to another reunion involving a former Real Madrid star.
Speaking to Radio Nacional de Espana's Tablero Deportivo programme on Sunday, Torres revealed that he had spoken to Rene Ramos, Sergio's brother and agent.
They discussed the possibility of bringing the experienced former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain centre-back to Getafe.

Rams' Myles Garrett 'wasn't in the kind of shape' he needed to be before season, NFL insider says originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Rams are in a bit of turmoil following Myles Garrett's injury to start the season. It's never a good thing when an important player isn't available to do his thing, but that's even more so the case with Garrett, who the Rams obviously did a blockbuster trade to get.
Garrett was supposed to be the centerpiece of the Rams' defense, but he's out. Now, ESPN and NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is sharing an update about the injury, and it also reveals some telling news about Garrett's health in general.
"The Los Angeles Rams knew that Miles Garrett had a knee injury, knew that he was working through it, knew that he wasn't in the kind of shape, honestly, that he really needs to be to go out and be the best player in football, which he essentially was last year," Rapoport said on Monday in a video shared on X. "They just sort of felt he could go out, manage it, handle it, and still play at a very high level."
He added that the team saw him on the field in Australia and saw he was struggling. So, "their decision was, and Miles Garrett's decision was, have surgery now, fix it, make sure that when he is next back on the field, this will no longer be an issue."

The Patriots made official the signing of veteran defensive tackle DaQuan Jones. To get him on the roster, the Patriots needed to open a spot.
New England did that by placing wide receiver A.J. Brown on injured reserve.
Brown, who has a high-ankle sprain, will not be eligible to return until missing at least four games. He will not play against the Steelers, Jaguars, Bills and Raiders.
Brown caught three passes for 26 yards and drew a 34-yard pass interference penalty that set up the team's lone touchdown in the loss to the Seahawks.
Veteran Mack Hollins and second-year WR Kyle Williams are the next players up at the X receiver spot.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kyler Murray became a superstar athlete as a kid growing up in Texas, won the Heisman Trophy with Oklahoma, was the first overall pick by Arizona in the NFL draft in 2019, and made the Pro Bowl after his second and third seasons in the league.
Since then, with a floundering Cardinals team and two major lower-body injuries contributing to the slide, Murray's career has veered off course. He can't hide it: His first game as quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon will be a big deal for him.
"Out of how many years I've played football, this has got to be right up there for most anticipated. I can't tell you how ready I am and excited to be on the field again," said Murray, who was sidelined last October by a foot injury and cut by the Cardinals in March.
The storyline gets even better: The Vikings host the division rival Green Bay Packers, and their new defensive coordinator is Jonathan Gannon, who was Murray's head coach in Arizona the last three years.
"He's in a really good offense with some elite players. Obviously I've got nothing but love and respect for 'K1,' Gannon said, using Murray's longtime nickname. "He's competitive. He's smart. He can make all the throws and beat you with his legs, so it's a big-time challenge."

Airing a Super Bowl is a bit like a presidential election.
It might come around every four years, but candidates – in this case, the four networks with the privilege and pockets to be in the broadcast rotation – are constantly jockeying and positioning themselves, especially as their turn nears.
That makes CBS' conundrum with Tony Romo even more precarious. Super Bowl 61 will return to ABC/ESPN for the first time in two decades to end the 2026 season on Feb. 14, 2027, but then CBS will officially be on the clock for February 2028, when it will host its first Super-Bowl broadcast since 2023.
Romo, the network's No. 1 game ****** yst who partners with Jim Nantz, was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) and pleaded no contest Sept. 2 to three charges he faced from the incident, which occurred while in his native Wisconsin on July 23. The subsequent police officer bodycam footage became Internet fodder, as Romo failed his field sobriety test, told the officer who pulled him over he was "going to see grandma and grandpa" (his own parents) and had an open container in the passenger seat.
In his first public comment since the arrest, Romo said via a Sept. 1 statement posted to his Instagram account, "I own this completely." He also noted an over-reliance on alcohol stemming from a dependence on pain medication following his playing career.

Ohio State left little doubt in their season-opening 56-3 win over Ball State on Saturday. The Buckeyes couldn't find any traction in their first drive of the game, punting after three plays. Not much else went wrong for Ryan Day's team, as they not only were able to showcase starters Julian Sayin, Jeremiah Smith, and others, but they also were able to get their backups some work in the second half of the blowout.
No matter the result in a game, it's always fun to dive into the numbers after the final whistle is blown. Don't worry, I'm not going to get too nerdy with some of the numbers I found interesting from the win over the Cardinals. With as many points and yards as the Buckeyes put up against Ball State, a lot of players were able to get in on the fun in the first game of the season.
Ohio State's victory over Ball State was the 27th consecutive season-opening win for the Buckeyes, which is the longest active streak in the country. The last time Ohio State lost in their first game of the season came against the Miami Hurricanes in the Kickoff Classic in 1999. The 27 straight wins also tie Florida for the second-longest winning streak in season openers in Division I history. The Buckeyes now just need wins in their next two season openers to tie Nebraska's streak of 29 straight from 1986 to 2014.
With the win over the Cardinals, Ryan Day tied Urban Meyer with 83 wins at Ohio State, which is the fourth-most in school history. The only coaches ahead of Day and Meyer in terms of wins are Woody Hayes, John Cooper, and Jim Tressel. Nine of Day's wins have come in season-opening games for the Buckeyes, with an average margin of victory of 28.4 points per game in those games. Day is now 7-0 against teams from the MAC during his time at Ohio State, crushing teams from the conference by an average of 51.4 points per game.
Prior to kickoff, 31 members of Ohio State's senior class were honored in Senior Day festivities. This marks the first year that Ohio State has honored its seniors prior to the opening kickoff of the first game of the season, as Senior Day was normally held at the final home game of the season. Those seniors have now racked up 38 wins since the beginning of the 2023 season. The seniors are hoping to add to that total the rest of the season on their way to achieving their goal of making another College Football Playoff and earning a second national championship.

With the NFL season almost here, an annual tradition has arrived once again: the NFL Top 100.
Each year, players across the league rank their Top 100 players, and the list is revealed before the season begins. The countdown began over a week ago, with the list coming in installments. And on Thursday, the final drop with the Top 10 players arrived. Let's take a look at the list.
1. Myles Garrett
No surprise here, as the defending NFL Defensive Player of the Year is coming off a season where he set the single-season sacks record.
2. Josh Allen

Just 105 days separate the Aston Villa triumph in the Europa League final and the end of the transfer window in England. In that short ******* e of time, the villans have gone from euphoria to uncertainty in the blink of an eye.
That's because the squad led by Unai Emery has been through a genuine revolution: the backbone of the side that had been fighting for top spots in the Premier League in recent years has been almost completely dismantled. The fact is that the Birmingham club has been affected by UEFA's financial rules, so selling players was nothing new.
In 2024, Douglas Luiz's move to Juventus prevented a 10-point deduction for breaching financial fair play; later, Moussa Diaby headed to Saudi Arabia because of PSR/SCR rules, which limit clubs in European competitions to spending only 70 per cent of their operating revenue.
Then 2025 began with the record sale of Jhon Durán to Al-Nassr. Mid-year, it was Jacob Ramsey's turn to join Newcastle – it is worth noting that academy graduates tend to generate more profit, something that leaves fans deeply frustrated when they want to see local players thrive.
Now, in 2026, Aston Villa were still forced to 'sell to buy' and saw nine players leave permanently, in a process that generated £313.5 million - staggering figures that represent the second-highest revenue ever produced by a club in a single transfer window.

USA TODAY Sports ranks the Detroit Lions' defense No. 19 entering the 2026 season. Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard's unit has fallen nine spots since USA TODAY's June ranking that slated the Lions No. 10.
A major concern for Detroit is its injury-plagued secondary.
The Lions released former first-round cornerback Terrion Arnold earlier this offseason. Starting safeties Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch will miss at least four games as both were placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list to begin the 2026 season.
Joseph, a first-team All-Pro and the NFL's interceptions leader in 2024, continues to deal with a degenerative knee issue that limited him to six games in 2025. Meanwhile, Branch is recovering from a torn Achilles that he suffered in December. Sheppard will be leaning on the front seven to take pressure off its secondary in the meantime.
NFL reporter Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz had this to say about the Lions' defense:

Subject to international clearance after his late-night signing, 23-year-old McGlynn, 23, who has won 13 international caps, has signed a three-year contract, which includes an option for a further season, in the club's favour.
"Jack has been a standout player in MLS in recent seasons," said Potters' sporting director Jonathan Walters.
"He is an attack-minded midfielder who adds goals and ****** ists and the ability to play in a variety of midfield roles. We believe he will go on an exciting journey with us."
Stoke had earlier in the day signed 20-year-old Bombino on a four-deal from another MLS side San Diego.

Manchester United are close to signing Mexico international Rebeca Bernal from Washington Spirit.
The 29-year-old, who can play in the centre of either defence or midfield, would become the first Mexican to feature in the Women's Super League.
Bernal joined the Spirit in February 2025 from CF Monterrey and has played 41 times for them.
During her time in Washington, she won the NWSL Challenge Cup in 2025.
Bernal missed Spirit's NWSL game on Sunday against Bay FC with what the club described as an "excused absence".

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear prepared for an undrafted free agent to back up QB Baker Mayfield.
The Bucs have released backup Jake Browning, who was signed early in free agency this offseason to be Mayfield's backup. That means undrafted free agent Jalon Daniels, who has impressed all summer, is currently the QB2 behind Mayfield.
The 6-foot, 208-pound Daniels, who played six years in college at Kansas, completed 27-of-44 passes for 239 yards and a TD pass, also rushing 14 times for 37 yards and one more score in three preseason games this summer. He was especially sharp in the first two exhibitions, helping spark second-half comebacks against the Jets and Chiefs.
Daniels might have initially been viewed as a longer-term project, but he started impressing the coaches as early as OTAs and minicamps, and he earned praise from the Bucs coaches for his off-schedule playmaking and quick recognition skills, which earned him QB2 reps in camp. Even with a shakier effort in the third preseason game, losing a fumble and completing 8-of-15 passes for 57 yards, the Bucs have been impressed with the rookie.
The Bucs still could look to add a veteran quarterback, with several expected to be released on cutdown day. But for now, Daniels is the next man up. Tampa Bay opens the season at the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1.

Are you tired of seeing a pair of 230-pound edge rushers? What about 275-pound defensive tackles? Apparently, Virginia Tech is too, as the Hokies are one of the heaviest teams in 2026.
Check out this chart.
Before you say being heavy is a bad thing, it depends on the type of heavy. New Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin brought Chuck Losey with him from Penn State to serve as the Hokies' new strength coach. Losey's official ****** le is the ****** istant Athletics Director for Athletic Performance – Football.
That's a fancy ****** le, but, officially, Losey is the head of Virginia Tech's strength and conditioning. Look at Penn State's recent history of putting players in the NFL. There were 260-pound players running the 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds.
Now, we aren't saying that Tech's offensive or defensive linemen will run the 40 in 4.4 seconds or less. They don't need to. But consider this: 30 players on Virginia Tech's 2026 roster weigh 300 pounds or more. There's nothing wrong with a 230-pound edge rusher coming off the bench on third down to rush the passer. But those players can't play on every down, or your run defense will suffer.

The Denver Broncos wrapped up preseason action with a 34-6 blowout win over the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night.
Broncos quarterback Sam Ehlinger overcame an early interception in the second quarter to finish 15-of-20 for 233 yards and three touchdowns on the night in the win. The Denver defense also balled out, with a second-half goal-line stand and a forced fumble late in the game, courtesy of "Mr. Irrelevant" Red Murdock, keeping the Minnesota offense out of the end zone throughout the game.
Check out the highlights of the game below.
The Broncos now turn their attention to looming roster cuts from a 91-man roster to the 53-player finalized lineup by 4:00 pm on Sunday afternoon.

Klay Thompson knew exactly what he was signing up for when he joined the Miami Heat, and rather than being intimidated by the franchise's very demanding culture, the four-time champion says it's one of the biggest reasons that he wanted to be here.
Speaking on the Zaslow Show, Thompson said his decision to join the Heat was based on their reputation for conditioning, accountability, and championship expectations, and those reasons appealed to him at this stage of his career.
"I've had nothing but respect for the Miami Heat. I mean, Heat culture, it's not just a phrase. They live it."
"And there's a reason that their guys overachieve a lot of times, or they embrace the pressure that comes with championship expectations. So that's what attracted me here. It's like all of my friends who have played here talk about how demanding it is and how your fitness will be the best it's ever been."
"And obviously, at this stage of my career, that's what was so attractive, is I wanna be in an environment that's super competitive. And guys might get uncomfortable at times. I love that. I love getting the most out of your abilities."

The NCAA's new 5‑in‑5 eligibility rule continues to send shockwaves through college athletics, and nowhere is the confusion more visible than in Texas A&M's still‑unfinished 2026–27 basketball roster. The past week delivered another round of twists.
First, former G‑League guard Bryson Warren was ruled ineligible by both the NCAA and the SEC. Warren secured a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the NCAA, but the SEC's stance remained unchanged, prompting him to enter the transfer portal and leaving the Aggies with an unexpected roster vacancy.
Meanwhile, former A&M guard Rylan Griffen awaited a ruling in his own lawsuit in the Dallas court system. On Thursday, a judge granted a TRO against the NCAA, the SEC, and commissioner Greg Sankey, effectively telling the governing bodies that if they want to challenge Griffen's eligibility, they'll have to do it in court.
The TRO doesn't prevent the SEC from issuing punishments to schools that play athletes it considers ineligible, but Griffen's case carries a key distinction. He never signed a professional contract. His only pro‑adjacent experience was a summer league deal with the Denver Nuggets, which functions more like a tryout than a guaranteed roster spot. That difference gives him a stronger argument than Warren under the current legal landscape.
Shortly after the TRO news broke, Luke Evangelist of TexAgs reported that Griffen has enrolled in classes at Texas A&M and intends to join the team. His status now hinges on a preliminary injunction hearing scheduled for September 11, which will determine whether he can compete while the broader lawsuit plays out.

All of Real Madrid's transfer plans, at this point, depend directly on sales and the club have faced a dead end on that front.
After all, it is difficult to push for a player exit at a club of Real Madrid's stature where a contract with even a bench role is something players opt to push through.
Over the past month, Real Madrid have seen two players to be particularly transferable – Eduardo Camavinga and Raul Asencio – but both players have refused to leave and insist on proving their worth.
At this point, Real Madrid are in dire need of a new midfielder despite all that is being publicly portrayed. Camavinga's sale, on that front, is an essential prerequisite.

LIV Golf insists the league's next iteration will continue in 2027, but some tumultuous weeks are likely to follow and will determine whether LIV does exist into the future. If it does, however, it will look nothing like it did in 2026.
If LIV 2.0 does happen, these players are going to have to find new pathways back onto the league after being relegated.
These are the 12 LIV golfers who are being relegated from the league after 2026 LIV Golf Indianapolis:

Brazil's Under-15 National Team defeated Uruguay 7-0 this Saturday (22) at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis (RJ), in the team's final friendly before the Liga Evolução tournament, which will take place in September in Paraguay. Brener, Kelwin, Lucas Jorge, Isaac, Samuell and Gabriel Bueno (2) scored for the young Seleção. On Wednesday (19), Brazil and Uruguay also faced each other at the same venue, with the Brazilian side winning 4-0.
Head coach Guilherme Dalla Déa fielded a very different lineup from the one that played on Wednesday. He wanted to make new observations and clear up any possible doubts ahead of Tuesday's call-up (25), when he will announce the list of 20 players who will represent Brazil in Liga Evolução.
With another standout performance, Brazil opened the scoring in the 8th minute through Brener, who headed home after an **** ist from Diego Bento. Despite Uruguay's tight marking, Dalla Déa's players moved the ball quickly, were sharp in their movement, and used dribbles to open up plays, constantly threatening the opposition defense.

A week after leaving the team to deal with "personal matters" and missing last weekend's scrimmage due to illness, according to head coach Steve Sarkisian, Texas Longhorns junior linebacker Ty'Anthony Smith is no longer with the program in news broken by Orangebloods on Friday evening.
Multiple other outlets confirmed the news.
In Anwar Richardson's report, there's a possibility that the 6'1, 214-pounder could return to the Forty Acres, but for now, the Longhorns will be without the key linebacker depth provided by Smith, who was practicing well before the illness that caused him to lose some weight.
A consensus four-star prospect ranked as the No. 350 player nationally and the No. 27 linebacker in the 247Sports Composite rankings, Smith was a late addition to the 2024 class for Texas after flipping from Texas A&M during the early signing period.
Primarily a contributor on three special teams units as a freshman, Smith appeared in all 16 games for the Longhorns, notching 16 tackles (eight solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, a half sack, and an interception in the blowout win over Florida.

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. - - — Training camp has come to an end for the Los Angeles Rams as the regular season inches closer and closer.
Throughout camp, you have seen a team that is definitely built for a championship run after coming up short last season.
But like all other teams, there are some concerns if you truly are looking to nitpick away at this roster.
After watching the first month of practices and seeing Los Angeles share the field with the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints in joint practices, I walked away with one question: Where will the explosive plays come from early on?
That question becomes even more important with the uncertainty surrounding star wide receiver Puka Nacua. Nacua left the Rams' joint practice against the Cowboys last week with groin soreness. He is also facing the possibility of NFL discipline stemming from an offseason incident. No suspension has been finalized.

Today in Boston Celtics history, Jerryd Bayless was born in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1988. He played his NCAA basketball for the Arizona Wildcats for a single season before entering the 2008 NBA Draft, where the Indiana Pacers selected him with the 11th overall pick.
The Phoenix native never suited up for the Pacers, dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers soon after the draft was over. He also played for the (then) New Orleans Hornets (now, Pelicans), Toronto Raptors, and Memphis Grizzlies before the latter ball club sent Bayless to Boston in a trade that netted the Celtics 3-and-D wing Courtney Lee. Bayless played just one season for the Celtics, suiting up for a total of 41 games and starting 14 of them.
He averaged 10.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.1 ***** ists while with the Celtics, leaving in free agency next summer to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks.
It is also the birthday of Sihugo Green, born in New York City in 1933. An alum of Duquesne, Green was the No. 1 overall pick of the 1956 NBA Draft, taken by the (then) Rochester Royals (now, Sacramento Kings). The New Yorker played for the Royals after their move to Cincinnati, the St. Louis Hawks before they relocated to Atlanta, and the defunct Chicago Packers, Zephyrs, and the also-defunct Baltimore Bullets before joining the Celtics via trade in 1965. The last stop of his career, Green averaged 3.2 points and 1.1 rebounds per game as a Celtic, retiring afterward.
Finally, it is also the birthday of Quinn Buckner, born today in 1954 in Phoenix, Illinois. Buckner played college ball with the Indiana Hoosiers, where he won an NCAA championship, and was drafted seventh overall in the 1976 NBA Draft by the Bucks. He was dealt to the Celtics in 1982, and won a ***** le in his second of three seasons with Boston. The Indiana alum averaged 4.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.8 ***** ists, traded to the Indiana Pacers in 1983.

The Chicago Cubs are taking on the Chicago White Sox in the Crosstown Series.
Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong continued to stay hot at the plate on Tuesday night, hitting a lead-off home run for Chicago in the bottom of the first inning. It was not only his 31st home run of the year, but also his second leadoff home run in as many days.
Crow-Armstrong started the home half of the first inning on Monday also with a leadoff home run. He finished the game 4 for 5 with two home runs and four RBI.
His second home run of the night was the game-winner as he launched a 391 ft. walk-off shot to give the Cubs the 7-5 victory. The Chicago outfielder became the first player in 70 years to hit a leadoff home run on the first pitch his team saw and a walk-off home run on the last pitch his team saw in a game.
PCA also made Cubs history by becoming the first player in franchise history to have back-to-back 30-30 seasons.

The Indianapolis Colts will have several difficult decisions to make before trimming their roster to 53 players, and two recognizable names could end up on the outside looking in.
The Athletic's James Boyd projected the Colts' initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, noting running back DJ Giddens and defensive tackle Jerry Tillery among his notable cuts.
Giddens, a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, entered training camp with an opportunity to slot in as Jonathan Taylor's primary backup. A hamstring injury has kept him sidelined for most of camp, though, allowing rookie Seth McGowan and Ulysses Bentley IV to gain ground in the competition.
Boyd projected Taylor, McGowan and Bentley to make the roster at running back, leaving Giddens without a spot one year after Indianapolis drafted him.
Tillery's situation is different.

With a game under their belt, the Houston Texans have updated their depth chart on both sides heading into Tuesday's joint practice against the Las Vegas Raiders.
For the most part, it looks the same. The offensive line features the projected four starters in Aireontae Ersery, Wyatt Teller, Ed Ingram and Keylan Ruteldge.
But once again, the Texans have the right tackle spot listed as Braden Smith or Trent Brown. This is the second day that both tackles have made the list despite Smith seeing a majority of first-team reps.
Brown started seven games for Houston last year at right tackle after beginning the year on the injured reserve. Though he wasn't perfect, there was potential with the veteran right tackle locking down the book end side opposite Ersery.
"He got a real vet presence. I always make a joke and call him master sensei because he always stands like this, with his hands behind his back," Ersery said. "But, good guy, good vet to be around and I'm glad that he's here."

The Scottish Football ****** ociation has lost confidence in Gianni Infantino and will not be voting for his re-election as president of Fifa, chief executive Ian Maxwell has told BBC Sport.
Infantino is under increasing pressure over his attempt, later abandoned, to create a new company to manage the commercial and ticketing rights of all Fifa competitions, including the World Cups, with 21% to be sold off to a private investment company.
Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) was aborted after widespread criticism from several confederations, led by Uefa, which has threatened a boycott of all Fifa competitions.
"The position of the SFA has been clear since the 55 Uefa ****** ociations met," said Maxwell, speaking as he announced Belgian Sebastian Pocognoli as the new Scotland head coach.
"We have aligned ourselves with the Uefa position and 55 nations are stronger than one voice.
