A UTMA custodial account requires no attorney, costs nothing to open, and lets married couples contribute $38,000 annually per grandchild without triggering gift-tax reporting.
VOO anchors the portfolio at 60-70% with a 0.03% expense ratio, while SCHG's 447% 10-year return earns it a 20-25% growth slice.
Custodial account funds legally become the grandchild's property at 18 or 21, so grandparents who want spending control should use a 529 instead.
Read More: Avoid these 13 retirement mistakes before they derail your future (sponsor)
You want to hand each grandchild a serious head start without the complicated legal setup. Skip the trust attorney. A custodial account under the Uniform Transfers to Minors Act (UTMA) can be opened in an afternoon at any major brokerage, and three low-cost ETFs can do the work for the next 15 to 20 years: the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEARCA:VOO), the Schwab U.S. Large-Cap Growth ETF (NYSEARCA:SCHG), and the iShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (NYSEARCA:IEMG). Three tickers, one account per grandchild, and time on your side.

For many companies, timing their biggest product launches right before earnings is no accident. Two days ahead of its fiscal third report, Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) used a conference in Las Vegas, an event most investors ignore, to unveil a sweeping AI governance platform.
The timing matters less than what the announcement reveals about a bet Broadcom has already made with its balance sheet.
That conference was VMware Explore 2026 in Las Vegas. Broadcom has run the VMware business since its $69 billion acquisition closed in 2023, and it has mostly used the platform to sell software bundles to existing enterprise customers. This week, the pitch changed.
Broadcom introduced VMware Private AI Cloud, a platform meant to let companies run AI inference and autonomous software agents inside their own data centers instead of renting capacity from a public cloud provider, according to a Broadcom press release.
That distinction is important. Most of the AI infrastructure story so far has centered on hyperscalers building bigger data centers and chip suppliers financing that buildout.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent earlier today announced a new buyback program for longer-dated Treasury securities that arrives at a moment when the U.S. bond market is under extraordinary stress, with 30-year yields having surged to 5.33% — levels not seen since 2007 — and the benchmark 10-year yield (TOQ26) pressing above 4.72%.
The buyback plan represents Bessent's most direct intervention yet into a market that has been deteriorating for weeks despite economic data that would normally support lower yields, including cooling retail sales, unexpected job losses in July, and moderating core inflation near 2.5%.

It had been a difficult year for shareholders of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), who saw the stock grind lower throughout 2026. Then, fourth-quarter earnings (fiscal year 2026) happened, and shares shot up 18% in a week, a remarkable move for a stock worth over $3 trillion.
And just like that, Microsoft's stock is positive for the year. Months of anguish have fallen to the wayside. Perhaps the best news yet, it's not too late to buy the stock. Here's what you need to know.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The first question is naturally: why did Microsoft surge on Q4 earnings? Investors went into earnings laser-focused on Microsoft's AI progress and apparently came away impressed.
Revenue grew by 18% year over year to $90 billion for the quarter, and net income soared 31% versus the prior year. Azure is the primary engine driving this, with 43% growth and topping $100 billion in annual revenue for the first time.
