After watching their 2025 NFL season get derailed by injuries – in addition to the play-calling faux pas of Kevin Patullo – the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves relatively unscathed heading into Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.
Now granted, that can change in a hurry, as the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots quickly learned in their Wednesday night Super Bowl rematch, but with their final injury report submitted before Week 1, only two players appear: star free agent edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, who is officially out, and rookie tight end Eli Stowers, who is questionable to make his NFL debut against the Washington Commanders.
While Greenard won't be on the field in Week 1 alongside Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and company, it sounds like his absence won't be an extended one, as he said he was "close" heading into Week 1.

The Dayton Flyers will play Utah at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, in their first game at the Charleston Classic and then Northwestern at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22.
The game times and the order of the opponents were announced on Thursday, Sept. 10, as tickets went on sale. The six-team field was announced in August.
There will be three games each day at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.
Oklahoma State will play Minnesota at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in the first game of the event. Northwestern will play Virginia Tech in the second game at 3 p.m. Dayton and Utah will play the final game of the first day.
All the teams will have Nov. 21 off.

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has been speaking to the media before Wednesday's Carabao Cup third-round tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (kick-off 20:00 BST).
Here are the key lines from his news conference:
Farke said there's "a little question mark" over Daniel James as he "reported an issue with his back after the warm-up at Brighton". He added: "The scan results were good. We have two more sessions [so] if he comes through those then he is hopefully available. Carefully optimistic."

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Fernando Tatis Jr., Jake Cronenworth and Manny Machado hit consecutive home runs off Gerrit Cole to open the bottom of the first inning, and the San Diego Padres held off the New York Yankees 4-3 to take two of three games in their series.
San Diego starter Michael King pitched six shutout innings against his former team. Luis Campusano added a leadoff homer against Cole in the seventh for the Padres, who remained a half-game behind Arizona for the third National League wild card.
The Yankees rallied for three runs off reliever Adrian Morejon in the eighth, highlighted by an RBI double from rookie Spencer Jones, who is from northern San Diego County.
Mason Miller pitched the ninth for his 33rd save, striking out Ben Rice with a runner on first to end it.
The Yankees (81-62) need one more victory to clinch their 34th consecutive winning season. They hold the American League's top wild-card spot by 2 1/2 games over rival Boston and trail first-place Tampa Bay by four games in the AL East.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University's Ol' Crimson flag has been named the first recipient of ESPN College GameDay's new Hall of Fan honor, recognizing a tradition that has appeared on the program for 338 consecutive broadcasts.
ESPN announced the recognition Saturday as the flag continued a streak that began in 2003.
According to ESPN, the Hall of Fan honor was created to recognize fans and traditions **** ociated with the long-running college football pregame show.
Ol' Crimson has become a regular presence behind the College GameDay set regardless of where the show is held. The tradition began when WSU alumnus Tom Pounds brought a Washington State flag to a GameDay broadcast in Austin, Texas, in 2003.
"I made a flag, and I just went out in the crowd and waved the flag and thought that was the end of it," Pounds said in comments provided by the university.

Pensacola State College women's soccer team played its first home game – truly at home – on Sept. 3.
The PSC team hosted Northeast Community College following the ribbon cutting of its new PSC Soccer Complex on a 6.7-acre site at the corner of Underwood and Tippin avenues.
The more than $5.7 million lighted complex includes a natural turf NCAA regulation-sized soccer field, bleacher seating for 280 fans, a concession stand and bathrooms.
Phase 2 of the project, the construction of dressing rooms and a press box, will begin in the fall and cost $2.1 million.
PSC President Ed Meadows described Thursday as "a good day for the college and student-athletes," but added the complex will also be an **** et to Pensacola and Escambia County.

Last season, we could feel positive statistical regression coming for Trey McBride touchdowns, as he was lined at 4.5 after a 2024 season where he scored just twice on 111 receptions.
McBride scored 11 times.
The market's done a better job adjusting to McBride than NFL defenses have, lining him at 6.5 touchdowns this season, but the Cardinals do have more red zone options this season. As a model of consistency with between five and 12 receptions in all but one game in 2025, and wanting to have a piece of McBride in some way, we'll bet on him to hit 100 receptions for a third straight season.

He spoke for no more than 45 seconds, uttering no more than 70 words. The audience responded with a relatively tame yet appreciative cheer. Walter then inched back into the throng of players and staff as Kasten, wearing a gaudy leather jacket emblazoned with the L.A. skyline, took the mic.
The celebration rolled on. Surely, few in attendance gave the owner a second thought. Surely, Walter, mastermind and afterthought, was happy with that dynamic.

With a fresh Cincinnati Open **** le in her pocket and a path to the World No. 1 ranking in her sights, Coco Gauff looked very much the part Tuesday night in her opening-round match at the US Open.
On the final scheduled day of first-round play at Flushing Meadows, Gauff took on Türkiye's Zeynep Sönmez in prime time. She started her tournament with an ace that set the tone for an efficient 6-3, 6-4 win.
Gauff was largely dominant on serve, which repeatedly exceeded 120 mph. When she surrendered a second-set break, she maintained her composure to regain control of the match.
Gauff broke Sönmez to take a 4-2 lead and seize control of the first set. She then broke Sönmez's opening serve of the second for a chance at a runaway win.
But Sönmez broke back to get back on serve and 2-2 and keep pressure on Gauff. Sönmez won three straight games and had multiple break-points to win a fourth. But Gauff battled back to remain on serve at 3-3

Aug. 31—PULLMAN — Ahead of the first season-opening Apple Cup, set for Sunday afternoon in Seattle, Washington State is electing not to release a depth chart.
Cougar coach Kirby Moore indicated as much on Monday, saying that heading into the games to follow the rest of the season, the team expects to post two-deeps.
So in the meantime, The Spokesman-Review is publishing a projection of WSU's two-deep, which is based on observations from the team's 15 fall camp practices and interviews with coaches and players this August. The program has only confirmed one player as a starter, quarterback Caden Pinnick.

—The only players expected to be sidelined by injuries for Sunday's game are tight ends Trey Leckner and Hudson Cedarland, Moore said. Leckner is set to miss the first half of the season, while Cedarland will be out "an extended period of time," according to Moore.

WWE stays in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on this Friday — August 28 — for the latest "WWE SmackDown," following up last week's big CM Punk vs. Kevin Owens world ***** le match. After that match ended in shenanigans, the plan is to sort out the mess tonight.

Chris Sale is a consummate ace. It seems unlikely that anyone would contest this at this point, but if they ever do… just point 'em at this game. In a marquee pitching matchup that featured Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the other side, it was Sale and the Braves that prevailed, as the grizzled southpaw gave Atlanta its first complete game shutout since Max Fried's performance in a 5-0 win over the Marlins in April 2024.
This one, though, was a lot tighter. In fact, there was only one run scored in this game… and it came on the first pitch Yamamoto delivered to a Braves batter. That pitch was a hanging splitter, and Drake Baldwin was either expecting a get-me-over or just did an excellent job if he wasn't, launching an absolute no-doubter Chop House-ward for a solo shot. No one else crossed the plate in this game, or even got close to crossing the plate.
That said, this game was about Chris Sale. It was kind of the Chris Sale Game, except that really, he gives you a superlative performance so often that many games are the Chris Sale Game. Against an offense that ranks first or second in pretty much everything, he showed up, showed out, and dominated. He was actually pretty close to a Maddux (shutout on fewer than 100 pitches) until some drama late.
He breezed through the first on nine pitches, with a strikeout, two first-pitch groundouts, and a soft single by Mookie Betts. He struck out two more in the second, working around an overcooked slider that grazed Alex Call on the toe with two outs. He struck out the side on 12 pitches in the third: two three-pitch strikeouts sandwiching a longer plate appearance by Shohei Ohtani. In the fourth, Betts led off with a no-man's land bloop that went for a double (and nearly got Betts thrown out as he took a big turn around second and had to scramble back to the bag). Not to worry, Sale threw just seven more pitches to end the inning, with a couple of easy flyouts chased down by his defense around a strikeout.
Two more quick outs started the fifth, before catcher Ben Rortvedt knocked a liner to left for a single. That brought up Shohei Ohtani, and Sale delivered his outing in microcosm against one of the game's best: he got ahead with a get-me-over fastball, then painted two perfect fastballs on the outer edge. Neither was called a strike, neither was challenged by Baldwin behind the dish. So, Sale got Ohtani to graze a slider, and then obliterated him with 100 mph about chin-high. Then he went back to business as usual in the sixth: another three-pitch strikeout, two other quick field outs.

CHELSEA — Tim Robison wants Chelsea to win football games, but his definition of winning extends well beyond Friday nights.
As Robison prepares for his first season as a head coach, he is attempting to build something designed to last, from higher expectations in the weight room and stronger connections from youth football through high school to a champion mentality that applies whether the Green Dragons are lining up for kickoff or walking through the halls.
The wins, Robison believes, can follow the habits.
And as Chelsea begins a new era, establishing those habits is priority No. 1.
"I'm a person that likes to produce good men and good women," Robison said. "That's my teaching and coaching philosophy. It's not all about football for me. Football is on the forefront, but right behind it, really close for me, is raising young men and young women."

The Baltimore Ravens have spent much of training camp evaluating young players competing for larger roles. One who is generating a lot more attention in recent weeks is defensive lineman Aeneas Peebles. The flashes have been difficult to miss. Whether it's disrupting plays in practice, creating pressure in preseason games, or earning praise from his coaches, Peebles has steadily worked his way into the conversation as one of Baltimore's more intriguing depth pieces along the defensive front.
Head coach Jesse Minter recently pointed to the playmaking instincts that keep showing up on tape. Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver echoed that, offering an even more revealing ****** sment. During a recent conversation with reporters, Weaver was asked about Peebles' development and what he has seen from the young defensive lineman. His answer included a comparison that immediately stood out. It shouldn't be glossed over or taken lightly.
"'Fub' [Aeneas Peebles] to me is all about consistency, and the comparison I have made to him is I coached Kyle Williams in Buffalo."
Williams was one of the NFL's most respected interior defenders during his career. He earned six Pro Bowl selections while becoming a cornerstone of the Buffalo Bills' defense. Weaver isn't claiming Peebles has reached that level yet. What he is saying is that he sees similarities in the traits that made Williams successful. The most interesting part of Weaver's answer wasn't the comparison itself. It was his explanation of what separates flashes from consistent production.
According to the Ravens' defensive coordinator, Williams possessed a complete understanding of his strengths and how to maximize them. Peebles, meanwhile, is still working through that process.

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested in Ohio over the weekend, court records show.

Columbiana County, Oh. court records showed that York posted a $5,000 bond and was released on his own recognizance after pleading no contest to charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. York spent one day in jail.
An initial filing said that York was arraigned for "engaging in prostitution," and the East Palestine police made the arrest along with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force
The task force did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
Multiple outlets reported the arrest Monday morning.
The 49ers, NFL, and East Palestine police did not immediately comment.

Carlos Sainz surprised that media only covered portion where he said 'he doesn't care' and not 'I am sorry for Oscar' aftermath F1 Hungarian GP run-in.
It is no surprise that Williams' Sainz has expressed surprise over media publishing news aftermath a grand prix. Pre-summer break, the Spaniard had a tangle with McLaren's Oscar Piastri due to blue flag system failure at Hungaroring, which affected the whole field.
Sainz was fighting Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, when Piastri arrived at the scene. The Australian wanted an easy way through but with no blue flag around, he was forced onto the grass. Post-race, the Spaniard shrugged off the incident as no big deal, but did apologise to the Australian.
Piastri was not happy, but understood the blue flag system failure. The two exchanged messages in the summer break to clear things out. Sainz was left surprised by how media portrayed the aftermath of the incident, especially in conveying what he said, interpreting it wrongly.
He highlighted how difficult it is for a F1 driver after a session, especially a race, when they have to speak to several media answering the same thing again and again. By the end of it, they are tired answering the same answers and sometime it comes out in a different way they intended.

Italy U21 star Michael Kayode was on hand to send Brentford 3-0 up against Tottenham Hotspur in their first Premier League game of the 2026-27 season, piling more misery on Roberto De Zerbi in the Spurs dugout.
Kayode was in the right place at the right time to get a leg to the ball from the second phase of a corner to put Brentford 3-0 up against Tottenham three minutes into the second half at the Gtech Community Stadium.
His effort came after first-half strikes from Keane Lewis-Potter and Vitaly Janelt.
This was Kayode's second ever goal in the English top flight; his first coming in a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in March earlier this year. He put pen to paper on a long-term contract extension with Brentford earlier this summer, committing his future to the Bees until the summer of 2032.
His goal came against an Italian head coach in Roberto De Zerbi. Italy international Sandro Tonali was also included in the Tottenham starting line-up.

The Clear Fork Colts got the 2026 high school football season started off with a bang in Week 1 with a 28-14 road win over Granville on Friday, Aug. 21.
The Colts battled the Blue Aces to a 7-7 tie after the first quarter but scored twice in the second to take a 21-7 lead into halftime. The two teams traded scores in the fourth to give the Colts the 14-point victory.

The Los Angeles Lakers have what appears to be a good and competitive roster set for the upcoming NBA season. However, they aren't championship contenders, and they're likely one or two pieces away from getting to that level.
There have been some fans who have been dreaming about the possibility, faint as it is, of Nikola Jokić coming to the Lakers. He has yet to sign a long-term extension with the Denver Nuggets, and although the three-time MVP has stated that he will wait until next summer to do so, nothing is official until it is official.
Anthony Irwin, a reporter who covers the Lakers, implied in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that once the team's ownership situation gets sorted out, it will keep its eyes on Jokić's situation in Denver.
Obviously, one has to take this with a huge grain of salt. The Nuggets are a talented team that features quality complementary players such as Jamal Murray, who is coming off a career season, Cam Johnson and Aaron Gordon. However, they just traded rising stud Peyton Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers, so they could be a bit weaker this coming season.
Last season, despite finishing third in the Western Conference with a 54-28 record, the Nuggets fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs. With Jokić doing his thing at the center position, they should still be very competitive this season.

The Rochester Red Wings cruised to a 7-2 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Wednesday night at Werner Park.Rochester improved to 73-47, collecting 11 hits and striking out 14 Omaha batters.
The Red Wings broke through in the third inning when Leandro Pineda launched a solo home run to right field, his sixth of the season, for a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Seaver King singled, advanced on a disengagement violation and stole third before scoring on Yohandy Morales' RBI double to make it 2-0.
Rochester added three more runs in the fourth. Cayden Wallace walked and later scored on a groundout by Pineda before King delivered the big blow, crushing a two-run home run to right field, his 11th of the season, for a 5-0 advantage.
The Red Wings extended the lead to 6-0 in the fifth when Wallace lined a two-out RBI single to left, scoring Morales. An inning later, Pineda reached on a single and eventually scored when Morales reached on a fielding error by Omaha shortstop Jack Pineda, pushing the lead to 7-0.
King finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Pineda went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Morales doubled, drove in a run and scored once. Wallace added an RBI single and a run scored.

The Seattle Seahawks are taking a look at another accomplished cornerback just as the availability of their planned addition at the position has come into focus.
Seattle worked out veteran Trevon Diggs, a two-time Pro Bowl selection and former first-team All-Pro, according to the NFL's transaction wire. The tryout comes as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported August 18 that Terrion Arnold will be placed on the commissioner's exempt list whenever he signs with the Seahawks, making him unable to practice or play.
The Seahawks are still planning to complete their deal with Arnold, according to Rapoport, but are working through the timing of the move. That uncertainty makes Seattle's continued exploration of the cornerback market more meaningful than a routine August workout.
Diggs offers a much different kind of option: an established veteran with elite production on his résumé, but significant questions about whether he can recapture that form after several injury-plagued seasons.
Diggs, 27, became one of the NFL's most recognizable defensive backs during his six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

As the San Francisco 49ers prepare for their trip down under to Australia to face off with Myles Garrett and the Los Angeles Rams, all eyes are on George Kittle and his ambitious timeline of Week 1 for a return from his torn Achilles. The injury suffered during the 49ers' Wild Card win over the Philadelphia Eagles late last year has varying timelines of recovery.
Kittle has been seen running and cutting while working on the side field during training camp. A Week 1 return would be remarkable, but former 49ers head coach Steve Mariucci is doubtful about that timeline.
Mariucci sat down with Alex Withers and spoke about Kittle, Nick Bosa, and Christian McCaffrey.
"George Kittle seems very optimistic. I've spent a lot of time with him, but he's not there yet. I don't know if he'll be ready for the first game. Heck, he tore that Achilles in the playoffs, so that might be too quick of a turnaround. It could be an issue for them offensively."
While speculation has run rampant about Kittle and his chances for Week 1, it is nice to hear from someone who spent time with Kittle. Kittle remains optimistic that he won't begin the season on PUP, but a long flight to Australia could force the 49ers to be cautious with their tight end.

The Oklahoma Sooners are in desperate need of fixing the running game this upcoming season. The Sooners ranked No. 113 in rushing offense last year at 118.5 yards per game, the second-worst among College Football Playoff teams.
So, Oklahoma has placed an emphasis on improving its rushing attack this offseason. Some of that is the addition of tight end coach Jason Witten and running back coach Deland McCullough. It's also due to what they return in the running back room and the new additions. Oklahoma returns its top two rushers at the running back position in Tory Blaylock and Xavier Robinson.
The Sooners also added Colorado State Rams transfer Lloyd Avant, who has received significant offseason buzz. But there is one guy that is stealing the show. Former Oklahoma All-American Teddy Lehman said he's been blown away by four-star freshman Jonathan Hatton Jr.
"Hatton is looking better and better and better," Lehman said on the 'Oklahoma Breakdown with Ikard and Lehman.' "I mean, had a really nice day out there at the scrimmage. He had a couple of big-time plays. You've got a 235-pound tailback that's one of the fastest guys on the team. So, we have a dude."
At 235 pounds, Hatton already has the size to handle the physical demands of SEC football. If Lehman's ***** sment of his speed and explosiveness is accurate, he could bring a combination that is difficult for defenses to account for.

The 32-year-old provided her latest tactical masterclass to win her maiden European gold on the final night in Birmingham, biding her time before producing a devastating kick with 150m remaining.
The chasing pack had no answer and Hunter Bell crossed the lines with arms outstretched as she added to the World Indoor and Commonwealth crowns she already has to her name in 2026.

Peoria Liberty junior quarterback Marlie Phillips will have to sit out the first six games of the upcoming flag football season after the Arizona Interscholastic ******* ociation denied her transfer appeal, Phillips confirmed to The Arizona Republic.
Phillips transferred to Liberty in the offseason after two seasons at Chandler Hamilton, where she went 38-0 as a starter and helped lead the Huskies to consecutive 6A state championships in 2024 and '25.
Phillips is ranked the No. 1 high school flag football quarterback in the state by The Arizona Republic in its 2026 preseason player rankings last month.
Phillips, who lives in Youngtown but attended Hamilton under the state's open enrollment law, was seeking an appeal to play right away instead of sitting the first part of the season as normally required by the AIA transfer rule.
Liberty opens the season Sept. 15 against Cactus Canyon. Phillips' debut for Liberty will come on Oct. 15 against Scottsdale Christian Academy at the Fiesta Bowl Copper State Invitational. Her first AIA game will be on Oct. 20 at home against Gilbert.

"Spurs will always have a place in my heart", wrote Djed Spence before his move to Inter Milan was confirmed on Saturday.
Spence has signed a five-year deal with the Serie A champions, who are reportedly paying a fee of around 30m euros, external (£25.6m) for the 26-year-old.
He joined Spurs for an initial £12.5m from Middlesbrough in 2022 and made 85 appearances for the north London side, helping them to win the 2024-25 Europa League ***** le.
"A special chapter comes to an end, It's been some journey, with plenty of memories, moments and experiences that I'll carry with me for forever, especially that night in Bilbao," he posted in a farewell message to Spurs supporters across his social media accounts.

The Orioles had an opportunity in the immediate wake of yet another trade deadline sell-off. With series against bottom-feeder Angels and fellow Wildcard hopefuls in the Rangers and Twins, the O's had a chance to really make up ground in their quest for a playoff spot. Instead, Baltimore went 3-6 in those series and now stare down an AL East gauntlet.
Tonight starts a four-game set against the American League-leading Rays, and the first of nine straight games against the Rays and Yankees. The good news for Birdland is that Baltimore remains only two games out of the final AL Wild Card spot. That bad news is they'll now have to try to make up ground against a Rays team who enters on a nine-game winning streak.
The Rays will look to extending that winning streak by forcing the O's to face their biggest weakness: a mediocre left-handed starter. Baltimore ranks 25th in team OPS and 29th in average vs. LH starting pitchers. Coby Mayo and Christian Encarnacion-Strand are lefty mashers, but the rest of the lineup has been league average or worse against southpaw starters.
