Clemson is officially on the board in the 2028 recruiting cycle.
The Tigers picked up their first commitment in the class on Thursday when four-star quarterback Trace Hawkins announced he will continue his career at Clemson. The Calhoun, Georgia native selected the Tigers over a group of finalists that included LSU, Duke, Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt after building a strong relationship with the coaching staff throughout the recruiting process.
Landing Hawkins gives Clemson an early foundation for the class, with the talented passer becoming the first player to publicly pledge to the Tigers for 2028. Quarterback has been a priority position for the staff, and Hawkins emerged as one of the top prospects on Clemson's board after several visits to campus over the last year.
His first trip came during the 2024 season, and he made multiple return visits this spring. Hawkins attended Clemson's spring game, participated in the program's Elite Day event and later returned for Dabo Swinney's high school camp in June. Those visits allowed the coaching staff to evaluate him in person while giving Hawkins plenty of opportunities to become comfortable with the program.
The 6-foot-1 signal caller is coming off an outstanding sophomore campaign at Calhoun High School. He completed the season with 2,442 passing yards and 24 touchdown throws while being intercepted only three times. Hawkins also made an impact on the ground, adding three rushing touchdowns.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal remains hopeful that India will travel to Bangladesh for the scheduled white-ball series in September 2026. The six-match series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, is still uncertain due to several factors. However, Tamim said discussions are underway with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Bangladesh board is making efforts to ensure the series takes place.

"Unfortunately, I don't have any news regarding the India series. I am in discussions with the BCCI and there's an exchange of emails happening between BCB members, and we are trying from all quarters," Tamim was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

"Bangladesh's series against India, the excitement is at a different level, I'm sure from journalists, from fans, cricketers, everyone," he said.

India last toured Bangladesh in 2022 for a two-match Test series, where they registered a 2-0 clean sweep.

The BCB president admitted that while he is working towards bringing India to Bangladesh, there are certain matters that are beyond his control.

"Bangladesh is an extremely safe country, and I am very hopeful that they will come. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying," he added.

"I am the BCB president, and there is also a line that I should never cross. So from my position, whatever is possible to do within my responsibility, I am talking to people, I am trying to tell them what advantages there are with the India series and all those things," Tamim said.

"There are certain things that are beyond my control. The discussions I've had so far have been very positive discussions. They also have to make a decision. Very soon, perhaps, we will find out whether the series is happening or not. So we will know very soon," he added.

The proposed series comes at a time when cricket ties between India and Bangladesh have faced challenges.

India had decided against travelling to Bangladesh for the T20 World Cup due to security concerns during the previous government led by Muhammad Yunus. The decision had created uncertainty over future bilateral cricket engagements between the two nations.

However, recent geopolitical developments have renewed hopes that India's tour of Bangladesh could go ahead as scheduled.

After locking down a deal for Santiago Castro, it was expected that all of Tony D'Amico's efforts would turn back to finding a left wing that Gian Piero Gasperini has been yearning for. However, it appears that the next Giallorossi signing for the time being won't be Antonio Nusa or Abde Ezzalzouli to fill that need. Instead, reports indicate that Roma's next signing won't even play that far up the pitch.
In a move that came out of nowhere, Roma is expected to sign 22-year-old Greek defender Konstantinos Koulierakis of Wolfsburg. The deal was first reported by Ugo Trani of Te la do io Tokyo and is now being corroborated by Fabrizio Romano and others. The amount being bandied about is €15 million, and it's expected that Koulierakis would fill the role of vice-Hermoso.
Koulierakis is a left-footed center back who brings considerable experience for his age. He's made 59 Bundesliga appearances over the last two seasons, 35 appearances in the Greek Super League, and another 9 Europa Conference League appearances with PAOK prior to that. He's also already made 22 appearances for the Greek national team.
Koulierakis was purchased by Wolfsburg from PAOK for just under €12 million two summers ago. After proving his worth in Germany, Roma is ready to bring him to Italy to add depth to its rearguard. Perhaps most importantly, he is a left-footed defender in a back three dominated by right-footed players—aside from Hermoso, to whom Koulierakis will likely be an understudy.
Koulierakis is a fairly tall center back at 6'2" and defends well in the air. He's known for being a progressive passer, which makes him a good fit in Gasperini's system as a left-sided defender. He's also proven to be composed on the ball and comfortable defending in tight ******* es. Koulierakis has chipped in 4 goals and 3 ******* ists during his time at Wolfsburg. At just 22, he's got plenty of room for development under Gasperini's tutelage.

Liverpool's planning at centre-back has taken an uncomfortable turn after Joe Gomez suffered an injury in the pre-season friendly against Sunderland, a development that further narrows Andoni Iraola's options before the new season begins.
As reported by BBC Sport, Gomez went off after only eight minutes and was then absent from training in Chicago on Sunday. There is still no confirmed timescale on the issue, but the immediate picture is clear enough. Liverpool are short in a key area of the pitch, and that shortage is sharpening the focus on both recruitment planning and existing contingency measures.
Photo IMAGO
At present, Virgil van Dijk stands as the only fit senior centre-back available. For a side preparing for another demanding campaign, that is far from ideal. Van Dijk's status as captain and defensive leader remains central, but relying so heavily on one established figure at this stage of pre-season leaves little margin for error.
The problem has been compounded by the unavailability of summer arrivals Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni. Jacquet's issue is understood to be minor, yet the timing leaves Iraola with an undeniably thin group in central defence. It is the sort of situation clubs prefer to avoid in July and August, because even short absences can disrupt rhythm, partnerships and tactical work.

There was no mistaking the message being emphasized to the Ohio State men's basketball team.
Starting with a July 20 practice, the Buckeyes were spending a full week focusing on one side of the court. It's the end where opponents have gotten what they have mostly wanted for the past several seasons, and it was the primary focal point as coach Jake Diebler looked ahead to a looming exhibition trip to Puerto Rico.
Defense topped the plans, an emphasis that even carried over to the weight room.
"At any moment, (Diebler) makes us drop down, get in a stance and hold it," guard Curtis Givens III said after a July 21 practice. "This week we're just trying to get better at defense and understanding our defensive concepts better."
That emphasis is not just for the two games the Buckeyes will play in Puerto Rico. It wasn't until the end of the week that Ohio State even got copies of the rosters for its forthcoming foes.

The MLB Trade Deadline is less than two weeks away, and while the Los Angeles Dodgers look like the team to beat, they could still add some players to the mix.
The Dodgers don't have dire needs; in fact, they arguably are the most complete team in baseball, from top to bottom, especially when it comes to veteran talent.
They spend and spend big in free agency with the purpose of contending without needing to rely on the trade deadline to make a game-changing move.
However, especially when it comes to moves on the margins, the Dodgers do not shy away from striking a deal or upgrading on the margins.

Five things newly hired boss Jurgen Klopp must do to revitalise Germany before Euro 2028 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Now that the 2026 FIFA World Cup has concluded, the start of the 2030 World Cup cycle is of the utmost importance to all national team federations that are beginning to shift gears and eye the next four years of growth.
However, some federations face a bigger climb than others, and few more so than Germany, who find themselves in a historic rut. Their crashout in the 2026 Round of 32 is just the latest failure on the global stage, as Die Mannschaft have failed to reach the Round of 16 even once in the three tournaments since their 2014 triumph in Brazil.
It's not been much better at the European Championship of late, as their run to the final in 2008 was followed by two semifinal appearances, and then a pair of failures, dumped out in the Round of 16 in 2020 and the quarterfinals in 2024.
To help them climb out of the gutter, the DFB has hired world-class head coach Jurgen Klopp to take over the federation, hoping to draw Germany back from the depths of the last two decades.

According to Bild, Raphael Onyedika is edging closer to a Bundesliga move as Eintracht Frankfurt's latest offer isn't far from Club Brugge's valuation. The Eagles saw their first two offers declined by the Belgian champions
The Champions League regulars are demanding €10 million, while Frankfurt are reportedly working to finalize the transfer for €8 million. Club Brugge were asking €30 million for the defensive midfielder last year, but they had to settle for a third of that sum now with his contract set to run out next summer.
Bild also reported the player has already reached total agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt. Adi Hütter's side completed their first marquee signing of the summer on Saturday with fellow midfielder Noel Aseko joining them from FC Bayern for around €13 million.
Onyedika played 42 games in all competitions for Club Brugge last season. The Nigerian joined the club from FC Midtjylland for a reported €9.5 million back in 2022. His countryman Jay-Jay Okocha is still a fan favorite at Eintracht Frankfurt after his four-year spell at the start of a decorated career.

PHILADELPHIA — Bombs burst in the air, and one even landed in the seats at Citizens Bank Park.
Yet for almost the entirety of this 96th All-Star Game, all was quiet on the banks of the Delaware during the American League's 4-0 throttling of their National League counterparts in the first Midsummer Classic in Philadelphia since 1996.
Major League Baseball and the City of Brotherly Love went all in on America 250 – from quills to bike rides to Hologram Ray Charles and Patti LaBelle, all of which seemed to go over pretty well.
The baseball?
That was a much quieter affair, as you'll discover when we break down the winners and losers of this annual midseason meeting:

Argentina will wear their dark blue change kits in the World Cup semi-final with England on Wednesday, prompting fans of the Three Lions to fear the worst.
The three-time champions normally wear white and light blue stripes but that would clash with England's white.
England are the designated home team but the holders are more than happy to wear blue given its World Cup history against their rivals.
"Bad omen for England?" wrote UK tabloid newspaper the Daily Mail in its online headline on Tuesday, while social media was awash with England fans wishing they could wear their red change kit in Atlanta.
In the 1986 quarter-final, Argentina beat England 2-1 wearing dark blue in a game made famous by Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" goal. His second was one of the greatest goals of all-time.

When a star player or new coach joins a team, it's customary that they'll be involved in some ceremonies for the other sports teams in the city. That's why it was no surprise to see new Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis throw out the first pitch for the Miami Marlins back in May.
Willis' first pitch was tough to watch, as he would've thrown behind a right-handed hitter in the batter's box.
While the quarterback clearly struggled with the task, Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley showed Willis how it's done, as he threw out the first pitch for the Marlins' battle with the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday at LoanDepot Park.
Hafley's first pitch was pretty solid. There may not have been much velocity there, but at least it got to the catcher. It may have even been a strike.
Considering the coach and quarterback's relationship, there will surely be some ribbing regarding the outcomes of the two heaves.

There are times when NASCAR deserves criticism, and there are times when it deserves credit.
Sunday night at EchoPark Speedway unquestionably falls into the latter category.
After severe weather delayed the Quaker State 400 for hours, NASCAR faced a difficult decision. It could have waited just long enough to reach the halfway point, declared the race official and sent everyone home. Instead, race control, track officials and the industry made a commitment to the competitors and the fans: race the full 400 miles.
As this story is being written, the field is preparing to restart with 61 laps remaining in Stage 3. The clock reads 12:55 a.m., and NASCAR is still determined to give fans the complete event they paid to see.
That's exactly the right decision by NASCAR, Elton Sawyer, John Probst and the entire crew.

Will Plunkett was overcome with emotion.
Tears flowed, and hugs were in order for the 18-year-old, recently graduated Mamaroneck star as he sat surrounded by family and friends after hearing his name called in the MLB Draft.
"I was in shock," Plunkett said. "Honestly, I'm still in shock."
It was the Baltimore Orioles who believed in Plunkett enough to use their lone eighth-round selection on him, picking him 230th overall on July 12.
Plunkett's dream of eventually getting drafted was not unique. Most young baseball players dream of hearing their name called in the MLB Draft, but very few actually get to see that dream become a reality.

Terence Steele is both better and worse than the Dallas Cowboys fanbase thinks of him. His journey is absolutely a success story, going from an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech to a Week 1 rookie starter who has refused to be supplanted in the lineup. Steele leaves a lot to be desired as a pass protector, but his run blocking has enamored multiple offensive coordinators in Dallas to the point he is now the team's longest tenured offensive player this side of Dak Prescott.
The Cowboys, as they have been known to do, locked up Steele early in his career to what was a shocking investment that paid him among the better right tackles in the league. Though he didn't perform at those levels, the team didn't take the opportunity to move on from him. Instead, they reworked his contract this spring to bring down his money and cap hit.
That likely was a front office decision they didn't want to spend the draft or financial capital to improve on the position this year, knowing that the offense can compete at a high level with him as a starter; they've done it time and time again.
The team saved almost $10 million of cap ******* e with the new deal, which is essentially a guaranteed two-season pact with a team option and friendly terms if they want to keep him on board in 2028.
Steele will make $9 million guaranteed in 2027, which doesn't preclude him from being traded if the team stumbles upon a better option. That could look like anything from him maintaining his current level, elevating his play to make it a steal (pun intended), to him being traded if the club moves Tyler Guyton over from left tackle. It's all pretty much on the table for Steele and the Dallas Cowboys.

Hello, and welcome to the 2026 White Sox MLB draft tracker!
Below, you’ll find every pick the White Sox make, with links to our individual stories on site for the five picks in the first four rounds.
Right off the bat, the White Sox dispelled any notion that they would zag instead of zig, picking the longtime and near-universal No. 1 prospect in a top-heavy class, Roch Cholowsky.
While last year was a “shortstop” draft, 2026 went hard for hitters, particularly outfielders (eight of the first 20 picks, and every pick from No. 5-9). Just three pitchers went in the Top 20, and just one arm (Jackson Flora, Giants, No. 4) before pick 18.
All of the first nine position player prospects this year (through pick No. 14) are shortstops. Getting deeper into the round, 12 of 21 picks were shortstops, still almost exclusively among position players.

Liverpool do not need another summer of guesswork. They need balance, durability and midfielders who can actually cover ground, win duels and keep the structure intact. According to talkSPORT, Joao Gomes has moved into focus after Atletico Madrid backed away from a deal, and that feels relevant for a club still trying to correct a squad build that looked thin in too many areas last season.
There is no mystery here. Liverpool lost depth, carried too much strain across multiple competitions and looked short of reliable options when intensity dropped. Big arrivals helped the headline count, but the overall shape of the squad remained awkward. Replacing Mohamed Salah in raw numbers with Victor Munoz does not solve a midfield issue, and Liverpool know it.
Gomes is not a fashionable link built on fantasy. He is 10-cap Brazil international, has more than 100 appearances for Wolves and has already done three years in the Premier League. Even in a relegated side, he stood out. That matters. You do not dismiss strong performers because the team around them fell apart.
The Brazilian has already stated his admiration for the club. "Liverpool is a team I would play for," Gomes said. "I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football." Liverpool supporters will hear that and immediately understand why this story has traction.

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani will miss the 2026 All-Star Game and will not pitch Friday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks because of continued irritation in his left knee.
He had been scheduled to start on the mound in the series opener against the Diamondbacks.

The team said that after the Diamondbacks series, Ohtani will undergo interventions on his knee to put him "in the best position for the second half of the season."
As a result of the knee issue and the planned treatment, Ohtani will not travel to Philadelphia to participate in the 2026 All-Star Game.

The New York Jets have not fielded a truly effective passing offense in several seasons. This past campaign, the Jets fielded the worst passing attack in the NFL, averaging a 32nd-ranked 140.3 yards per contest.
Unsurprisingly, both quarterback Justin Fields and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand were replaced this offseason.
It was a serious downgrade from their 2024 output under QB Aaron Rodgers when they averaged a 16th-best 218.5 yards per game. The Jets invested significant resources this offseason to hopefully improve their aerial attack in 2026.
New offensive coordinator Frank Reich arrives to oversee the offense and Geno Smith is a gunslinging quarterback. Playmakers Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall were signed to extensions. The Jets drafted two pass catchers in the first round, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
Wilson will be the focal point of the Jets' passing attack, but Smith has several weapons at his disposal. Adonai Mitchell is also expected to take a big step forward. Including sophomore tight end Mason Taylor, Smith has at least five pass-catching weapons that should be difference makers.

John Harbaugh is rebuilding the New York Giants on the foundation of smothering defense and power running, but the team's success still ultimately hinges on how much quarterback Jaxson Dart can develop in Year 2, particularly how well he heeds the warning about a couple of "subpar" numbers his new coaches can't ignore.
Those numbers refer to what Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus dubbed Dart's "subpar accuracy: His 11.2% plus accurate throw rate tied for last, and his 58.9% accurate attempt rate tied for 21st."
Issues with ball placement underpinned a "3.4% turnover-worthy play rate tied for sixth-highest" amongst quarterbacks in 2025. Becoming more accurate is part of the learning curve for any young signal-caller in the NFL, but Locker cautioned that "if Dart fails to make a jump in 2026, it could render some uncomfortable conversations and/or transactions next offseason."
Perhaps that's a little outlandish, given how the Giants traded up to invest a first-round pick in Dart during the 2025 NFL draft. Yet, the worrying numbers detailed by Locker are part of recurring issues for Big Blue's QB1 entering a critical sophomore campaign.
Dart's list of flaws contains some repeat offenders, with accuracy and "avoiding poor decisions and sacks" chief among them, per Locker. Fixing accuracy begins with dart refining his mechanics from the pocket, a process he's already begun under the watchful eye of a noted quarterback whisperer on Harbaugh's staff.
