MEDELLÍN, Colombia (AP) — After a brief stint with MLS side Minnesota United in the United States, Colombia soccer international James Rodríguez decided to return home on Thursday.
Rodríguez, a former Real Madrid midfielder who was a free agent, will play for Atlético Nacional, the most decorated club that is based in Medellín, in his home nation.
Atlético Nacional did not disclose the financial details of the deal or the duration of it.
Rodríguez, 35, has bounced around since 2022, with stints with Olympiacos in Greece, Sao Paulo in Brazil, Rayo Vallecano in Spain, Club León in Mexico and Minnesota United in the MLS, where he played just six matches in the first semester of the year.
The midfielder helped lead Colombia to the Copa America final in 2024, the country's first such appearance in 23 years. He has 31 goals in 131 career international matches with Colombia.

Australian Ben Simmons, who missed last season with nagging back injuries, has agreed on a one-year NBA comeback deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to multiple reports on Friday.
The 30-year-old point guard was the top pick in the 2016 draft by Philadelphia but missed the 2016-17 campaign with a broken right foot only to earn the 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year award.
Simmons last played in the NBA in early 2025 as a reserve with the Los Angeles Clippers but ESPN and The Athletic reported he has come to terms on a deal worth $3.5 million with the Kings, who were reportedly impressed with his performance at a workout this week.
He will likely serve as a backup for rookie guard Darius Acuff, the seventh pick in last June's draft, as well as a possible fill-in at other roster positions.
Simmons averaged 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.2 ******* ists a game over eight NBA seasons, producing his best numbers with the 76ers before sitting out the 2021-22 campaign then being traded to Brooklyn, where he struggled and was waived in 2025 before finishing the season with the Clippers.

The Chargers cut their roster from 90 to 53 with a little over a week until the start of the 2026 season.
Los Angeles has found the 53 men who they believe will contribute in a big way, and one of those 53 is former undrafted linebacker Marlowe Wax. Wax made a name for himself last season after not hearing his name during the 2025 NFL Draft. Still, he made the team.
Prior to the 2026 season, Wax was on the roster bubble, but after a strong preseason performance, there was little doubt he'd be left out. According to Pro Football Focus, Wax graded out as the highest-graded Charger from the 2026 preseason.
PFF graded him out at 90.9.
"Wax was an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse last year and was solid in the 2025 preseason. He was even better this year, though, improving his PFF preseason grades in both run-defense and coverage. He tallied six tackles resulting in a defensive stop and had a pass breakup over the past three weeks."

Noah Igbinoghene appeared in 32 games for the Washington Commanders over the past two seasons. He made 12 starts and was a key part of Washington's defensive backfield. However, this offseason, under new coordinator Daronte Jones, the Commanders chose to go in another direction, and the 26-year-old Igbinoghene hit free agency.
A first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, Igbinoghene spent three seasons there before he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2023. He played one season in Dallas, where Dan Quinn was his defensive coordinator.
In 2024, Quinn was hired as Washington's head coach, and Igbinoghene was one of the many free agents the Commanders signed. After a productive 2024 season, Washington re-signed him to a one-year deal in 2025.
After departing the Commanders, Igbinoghene signed a one-year deal in March with the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Seattle released Igbinoghene this week during its final cuts, and he found himself searching for a new team again.
Igbinoghene didn't have to wait long, as he signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday.

Kaden Wetjen finally gave Mike McCarthy exactly what he had been asking for. After spending much of the preseason hearing criticism about his decision-making as a returner, the Pittsburgh Steelers rookie broke loose for a huge punt-return touchdown against the Buffalo Bills, and even during the play, McCarthy was still barking the same message he had been drilling into Wetjen all summer.
And the funny part? Wetjen didn't exactly follow the instructions. McCarthy was yelling for him to get north and attack vertically. Instead, the rookie bounced toward the sideline. However, this time, that decision worked perfectly.

McCarthy explained what happened on August 28, after the Steelers' 28-27 preseason loss to the Bills. Wetjen broke a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter, giving them the explosive special-teams play the Steelers had been waiting to see from their fourth-round rookie.
"Sometimes coaches say things on a headset they probably shouldn't say, like 'get north, get north' or 'get vertical,' which I was screaming at him at that time. And then he obviously bounced it to the sideline. I saw it on the Jumbotron. I saw why he bounced it, because he didn't have anywhere to go in front of him. He's been under some criticism just for being a young guy on a veteran team, so some tough love. I'm proud of him. I was really happy to see the return unit get that. Obviously, that was just a heck of a return by him, because if you're grading the tape, the coverage unit was in excellent position right there. And he gets around a corner and, obviously, finishes it off. That was a big-time return."

After a preseason showdown against the Cleveland Browns, the New England Patriots will begin cutting down their 90-man roster. The team needs to make 37 moves ahead of the NFL's deadline on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. ET. A majority of those personnel changes will come through the most straightforward roster reduction method: cutting players.
However, not all 37 transactions will be the same. The NFL has separate protocols for so-called vested veterans and players with less league experience. Veterans immediately enter the open market as free agents after being released, while the latter must pass through the waiver wire, where they can be claimed by another franchise or enter free agency if unclaimed.
What exactly does all of this mean for the Patriots and the NFL's other 31 teams, though? Let's break it down.
Franchises will make their final preparations before the season, with substantial changes being made to league rosters. Players will either be waived or released, but not all will instantly become free agents and be free to sign with any team.
When a player is "waived," they are subject to the waiver wire, where any team can claim them and ******* ume their current contract. Currently, the waiver wire order is dependent on the NFL Draft order from this past April, but without any trades.

According to Hau, the 17-year-old has successfully completed his medical examination and signed his contract with the Belgian club, bringing an end to the latest chapter of his development at Bayern Munich. It should be noted that Bayern Munich has not formally announced the move as of yet. If the report is on-point, it would not be shocking to be Bayern Munich make the announcement on Thursday.
The deal will see Bayern Munich receive a guaranteed €5 million transfer fee, with the potential for the final amount to increase through bonus payments. While Bayern Munich will not have a buy-back option included in the agreement, the club has negotiated a percentage of any future resale involving Mike.
That sell-on clause could prove particularly important if Mike develops into a major player at Club Brugge and eventually earns another high-profile transfer.
Mike has been regarded as one of the more promising young talents in Bayern Munich's youth system, but the move to Belgium should provide him with an opportunity to take the next major step in his development. At Club Brugge, he will have the chance to compete for regular first-team minutes and gain valuable experience in a competitive European league.

The 18-year-old Morocco midfielder has moved from Lille in a £85.6m deal and signed a five-year deal with City.
Enzo Maresca's side moved to sign Bouaddi after selling central midfielders Rodri to Barcelona in a £65m deal, Tijjani Reinders to Al-Qadsiah for £52m and agreeing to let Nico Gonzalez join Newcastle in a deal worth up to £52m.
"This is a very special day for me and my family," Bouaddi said on the move.

The new boss at LSU is the talk of football, again, thanks to his pursuit of tight end Dae'Quan Wright, who played for him at Mississippi. Wright was just waived by the Cleveland Browns, who like Kiffin seem to find controversy at every turn. That's a topic for another day.
Kiffin is trying to make the unheard move of bringing a player back to college after he has been cut by the NFL. Kiffin would defend the move by saying he is just trying to make his team better.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced its squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, with Ibrahim Zadran taking over as the team's full-time T20I captain and pacer Naveen-ul-Haq returning to the side after recovering from injury.

The series will mark Zadran's first ***** ignment as Afghanistan's permanent T20I skipper after he took over the leadership duties from Rashid Khan.

Naveen's return is a major boost for Afghanistan's pace attack. The right-arm pacer had been sidelined after suffering a stress fracture in his right shoulder, which ruled him out of Afghanistan's bilateral series against the West Indies as well as the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where the team made an early exit.

The series will also be a historic one as it will be the first-ever men's bilateral T20I series between Afghanistan and India. The two sides previously faced each other in a one-off Test and a three-match ODI series in June this year.

The Detroit Lions left Saturday with a 17-13 preseason win over the Washington Commanders. For players fighting for jobs, the result mattered considerably less than what happened during their snaps.
Detroit is approaching the NFL's Aug. 30 roster reduction deadline, leaving only one preseason game for players on the bubble to strengthen their cases. Several Lions helped themselves against Washington. A handful went the other direction.
That includes two players who were included in our previous 53-man roster projection.
Josh Dobbs produced Detroit's longest offensive highlight with a 50-yard touchdown run, but his afternoon included enough mistakes to keep the backup quarterback competition open.
Dobbs completed 7 of 12 passes for 74 yards with one interception. He was also responsible for two turnovers, including a first-quarter fumble that Washington returned for a touchdown.

This one is pretty much a lock if his current trajectory keeps up. As a Freshman All American, Mills already has plenty of tape for pro scouts to pore over, and he looks to be the anchor of the next great offensive line core for the Huskies. We Husky fans know what we have, and it seems that the national media has taken notice, with Pro Football Focus ranking Mills on their Top 10 Sophomores list. Mills garnered high praise from PFF, with the article noting that "Mills generated the highest grade of any freshman lineman to play more than 300 snaps last season." With a season under his belt, and at least one more guaranteed, Mills has the opportunity to win some postseason hardware, and maybe secure an All American spot, if he is to build on his stellar debut! The key thing for him, and really any offensive lineman is staying healthy! I could see him as maybe a first or second round pick, enjoying a long career in the NFL!
This one is also a pretty good contender if current trajectories keep up. With the amount of pre-season watch lists that Williams is on, it should be no surprise that he is on this list. One mock draft even has Williams getting picked in the third round by…Seattle. The one thing that gives me pause is his size: at 5'11", he is not the prototypical NFL quarterback, but his dual threat ability should mitigate that slightly, much like it did for Kyler Murray when he was picked first overall in 2019. Not saying that Williams will match Murray's feat of getting selected first overall (though it would be great if he did, because that would probably mean a lot of wins for the Dawgs), but it's just a point of comparison. He has the physical gifts, he just needs to iron out his decision making and show that he can not only win, but produce against elite defenses, like the Ohio States and Michigans of the world! If he catches on, with the right team and scheme, Williams could be a solid pro quarterback!
This is another one that is kind of self explanatory. After a stellar Freshman season, Roebuck looks to build on his newfound role, with him shouldering more of the load in the passing game, and hopefully putting up more numbers in the process! His ceiling is also high, as he is only a sophomore and will have ample opportunity to catch passes from a variety of spots on the field, and versatility is something that NFL teams will be searching for in drafting their future receivers.
Right now, certain projections, like this one from Scout SZN, have his ceiling at Day 2, but where you get drafted doesn't matter. I do think that Roebuck could be a contributor on a pro team someday, but whether or not he's the best depends on his development while he is a Husky, and with his contributions from year one, I'd say that his future is bright!

Indiana Fever reserve guard Sophie Cunningham has become one of the most controversial figures in the WNBA. Cunningham is having a career year from the three-point line, but the vast majority of the discourse surrounding her has focused on comments she made in a July 21 ESPN profile.
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" she said in the profile. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
Many around the league, including several head coaches and even her own, Stephanie White, spoke about embracing inclusivity for all people after the comments sparked intense debate. Some fans became staunch supporters of Cunningham's in the aftermath of the controversy, while others have become some of her biggest haters.
She found a lot of the latter when the Fever visited Canada to face the Toronto Tempo in front of a sold out crowd at Scotiabank Arena, where they rained boos down on her after she entered the game.

The Chicago Bears have been dealing with injuries throughout the first few weeks of training camp, and that continued on Sunday when running back Kyle Monangai suffered a knee injury.
According to reporters in attendance, Monangai got tangled up with defensive tackle Grady Jarrett during a non-padded practice, and both players went to the ground. Monangai's knee was examined on the field by trainer Andre Tucker before they both walked off the field, although Monangai was walking gingerly.
But it sounds like good news as ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Monangai is believed to be "fine" and "initial tests showed his knee to be structurally sound, but the team will do an MRI to confirm."

SEATTLE (AP) — Rookie Camden Brown had two touchdown catches, including a diving, one-handed snag, to help lead the Dallas Cowboys past the Seattle Seahawks 17-7 in the teams' preseason opener Saturday night.
Brown caught a 39-yard pass from Sam Howell in the second quarter to put Dallas up 10-7. On the first drive of the third quarter, Brown snared a fade pass from Joe Milton in the back left corner of the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown.
An undrafted free agent who started his career at Auburn before transferring to Georgia Southern, Brown has stood out throughout training camp. The 6-foot-2, 204-pound wide receiver has made good use of his frame, and demonstrated on Saturday he can also do so in an NFL game.
Milton, who's entering his third pro season and second with Dallas, was impressive in his bid to be the Cowboys' backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott. The 2024 sixth-round draft pick completed six of his first eight passes against the Seahawks' backup cornerbacks, and finished 12 of 15 for 107 yards and the TD to Brown.
Howell, who is competing with Milton for the Cowboys' No. 2 job, was 8 of 12 for 94 yards and his touchdown pass to Brown.

NEW BERLIN, New York: Hunter Lawrence took the lead on Lap 1 and rode uncontested to the checkers and add three points on Jett Lawrence in the 2026 Pro Motocross championship. Hunter expanded his advantage to 15 points with five motos remaining.
Jett was pinched on the start and got a modest start in fourth. He made short work of Eli Tomac on the opening lap and set his sights on Haiden Deegan in second. On Lap 3, Deegan slammed the door on Jett, who attempted to take the inside groove away from the rookie. Jett fell to sixth, passed two riders quickly, and then renewed his battle with Deegan.
Jett took third away from Deegan on Lap 7. Until today, Jett Lawrence had never lost a moto at Unadilla.
Jorge Prado settled into second after passing Deegan on Lap 5, but he lost a ton of time in lapped traffic. Jett took the position from Prado with two laps remaining and salvaged two points.
Deegan earned his second holeshot of the season and led the opening lap. He nearly crashed at the beginning of the second lap, which allowed Hunter to take advantage.

LANDOVER, MARYLAND ― Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis made his debut in a preseason game at the Washington Commanders on Friday night, Aug. 14.
Willis, 27, is in his fifth NFL season and has only six regular-season starts for the Packers and ******* ans.
Willis is succeeding Tua Tagovailoa and Ryan Tannehill as the next Dolphins franchise hope at quarterback.
First-year head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan are banking on the talents of a quarterback who they worked with in Green Bay.

Former NBA veterans Enes Kanter and Royce White declared their entry into the 2026 WNBA Draft to exploit the league's ambiguous eligibility rules.
Their declaration came as part of a larger movement to limit the inclusion of trans athletes into women's sports, specifically the WNBA, after Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham raised the same issue.
Kanter and White's former NBA peers are not looking kindly on their move, with a cult-favourite point guard joining Robin Lopez in criticising Kanter and White's decision.
Ty Lawson was drafted No. 18 in 2009 and enjoyed a nine-year NBA career as a role-player who was a fan favourite. Lawson slammed Kanter and White on X for what they're doing to the WNBA.
