Jackson Koivun looked poised beyond his years at the 3M Open.
He led by three shots going into Sunday, but was hunted down by world number one and four-time major winner Scottie Scheffler on the final day.
Koivun admitted he was nervous to see Scheffler's name rising up the leaderboard, but he didn't show it, shooting a final-round 65 to win with relative ease, breaking the tournament scoring record in the process.
The 21-year-old didn't look like someone playing in his third-ever event as a pro. The maturity on display was incredible to see, but it should really come as no surprise to anyone who has followed his career over the past few seasons.

A Detroit Tigers pitcher has suffered a setback in his rehab.
Right-hander Burch Smith exited his rehab outing for Triple-A Toledo two pitches into his relief appearance on Thursday, July 23. He threw two fastballs to begin the top of the seventh inning, showing visible discomfort on both pitches, before walking off the mound and talking with a trainer.
According to Tigers manager A.J. Hinch, Smith pulled himself out of the game with an apparent issue with his right shoulder. Smith will be evaluated for a potential injury in his shoulder and lat area, though the Tigers don't yet know the extent of the issue.

Rip Hamilton is eager for his eldest son to begin his college basketball career, not far from the site of the former Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Detroit Pistons legend and his two sons – Deuce, and Parker – were present at a youth golf clinic at Belle Isle Golf Center on Thursday, July 23. Deuce, the elder son, is entering his freshman year with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, where he will play for long-tenured head coach Greg Campe.
Born in 2007, Deuce entered the world in the middle of his dad's nine-year career with the Pistons from 2002-11. He recently completed his senior year at Oakwood in North Hollywood, California, and committed to Oakland in March.

"He spent his first, you know, a lot of his childhood here," Hamilton told the Free Press. "And to get an opportunity to come back and play in front of, I always say the greatest fans in the world. The Boston Red Sox made it clear last winter that pitching would be the key to their 2026 season. Their pitching performance during a recent record 15-game winning streak proved the plan was prudent.
The Red Sox gave up only 32 runs during the streak, an average of 2.13 per game.
Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow was the architect of the blueprint. Even when his job appeared in jeopardy when the Red Sox tumbled into last place with a 2-8 start in April and stayed there, he remained confident that good pitching could turn it all around. He told Kaley Brown of Boston.com on June 26:
"We have to win a lot of baseball games and we don't have a ton of time to do it. I believe that we're capable of doing it. It's going to require more consistent play on the field. But I see no reason that with the pitching that we have and the consistency of the starting pitching, with the strength of the backend of the bullpen, we can't get ourselves in a position where we do win these games."

CHICAGO – Detroit Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty just didn’t feel right while pitching against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Monday, July 20.
“Didn't feel normal there, like in the fourth inning,” Flaherty said. “Ball wasn't coming out the same.”
He was taken out after four innings after giving up four runs off five hits and striking out six.
After going through tests, Flaherty was put on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right flexor tendon inflammation. But he does not feel it will be a long-term issue. His stay on the IL is expected to be close to the minimum.

Morgan Rogers' friendship with his new club-mate Cole Palmer goes back a long way - and actually inspired the latter's famous 'cold' goal celebration.
Palmer first performed it in December 2023, after scoring two goals in a 3-2 win at Luton, and he has since taken ownership of the celebration, registering a trademark for it with the UK Intellectual Property Office.
However, it was first meant as a tribute to Rogers, as he had performed the celebration after scoring a goal for Middlesbrough against West Brom.
It was after moving from his local club West Brom to Manchester City that Rogers first struck up a friendship with Palmer. Both were 16 years old and soon starred in attack for City's FA Youth Cup-winning under-18 side in 2020.
Palmer is not the only familiar face Rogers will encounter at Stamford Bridge though.

Jonathan Greenard was acquired to help the Philadelphia Eagles rush the passer, but his impact may extend beyond sacks, pressures and third-down situations.
The veteran edge rusher is already embracing a leadership role inside one of the NFL's most intriguing young defensive fronts. Greenard, who arrived from the Minnesota Vikings in a major offseason trade, has not been fully involved in team drills while working back from December surgery, but he has spent the offseason observing, learning the culture and studying the younger players around him.
Two names have stood out: Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith.
While speaking with the Eagles official website, Greenard praised Hunt's natural tools, calling him a "freak" athlete and pointing to the kind of bend and feel that cannot be easily taught. That is notable because Hunt already entered 2026 with momentum after a breakout second season. He led the Eagles in sacks and interceptions in 2025, becoming the first player in franchise history to lead the team in both categories in the same year.
Greenard also had strong praise for Smith, saying the former first-round pick sometimes carries himself like a veteran with seven or eight years of NFL experience. Leicester City have confirmed the departure of midfielder Harry Winks who makes his return to Italian football.
With the Foxes playing in League One this season, the club have had to see the departure of some of their big-name players with Winks the latest to go after three years at the club.
The 30-year-old has now made a permanent move to Serie A side Cagliari, which will be his second spell in Italy after having previously been on loan at Sampdoria while at Tottenham Hotspur.
"We wish Harry well in the next part of his career," Leicester said in a statement for the player who made 109 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and making six **** ists.
Last season, Cagliari finished 14th in the Italian top flight, ahead of the likes of Fiorentina and Genoa.

Both semifinal matches will be played on grass grown in and shipped from Colorado specifically for this year's World Cup.
Platteville's Green Valley Turf sod company provided the grass for 2026 World Cup pitches at the Atlanta, Houston and Dallas sites.

The return of Conor McGregor for UFC 329 on Saturday night had historic hype, but his bout with Max Holloway produced one of the most disappointing finishes to a UFC event in the company's history.

WALDO — A pair of Wynford standouts are tuning up for the 2026 high school golf season. And Clay Rogers and Caroline Sheldon are doing so by posting wins in the process.
Rogers won the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf ***** ociation tournament at Kings Mill Golf Course with a 2-over-par 72 in the boys 16-to-18 age division, while Sheldon took the girls 13-to-18 group with an 85.
"I'd say it's mostly working on my game and playing different courses rather than my home course," Sheldon said of her summertime mindset. "My home course is Bucyrus, so it's getting a different approach. This course is a lot tighter than Bucyrus, so that's what led me to try out new courses for when the season does come and I have to overcome those."
It was her second HOJGA event and her second victory, but for Rogers it's his fourth win of six HOJGA events in 2026.
"My wedges (are working), and I got a new putter. Everything has been working pretty well," Rogers said. "(Winning) helps a lot with confidence moving into the season, playing in competitive things against other kids who might be a little better competition than your typical high school match."

Coppola joined Paris FC on loan from Brighton back in January. He would make 14 appearances for Les Parisiens, firstly under Stéphane Gilli and then under Antoine Kombouaré. However, it was uncertain whether his stay at the Stade Jean Bouin would be extended beyond the summer.

Over the weekend, news broke that 5-star running back David Gabriel Georges had decided on his college and was waiting until his commitment on July 22 to let the rest of the recruiting world know. Based on that report and some of its contents, the situation sure looked good for Tennessee and questionable for Ohio State (the two schools he is left to choose between).
However, that status of things was put in doubt when Gabriel Georges responded to those claims on Monday. It was a very short but very clear response to what made the rounds over the weekend. It put things further up in the air about where the recruitment stands, and only Gabriel Georges really knows where he'll end up.

As for McGregor, he starts out as the +130 underdog. That’s not a particularly huge spread by any means and could easily flip once money starts trickling in.
No doubt the performances from each combatant at this weekend’s UFC 329 event in Las Vegas will determine the direction of their current betting line. McGregor is tasked with rematching Max Holloway in the main event, while Pimblett co-headlines the T-Mobile Card opposite French sensation Benoit Saint Denis.
I guess we’ll have to put his fight against this “fat featherweight” on hold.

The Sparks had eight days off after they had two bad losses on the road. They seemed refreshed, ready to go, and were eager to play.
And they came out flat and looked listless for nearly the entire game. The Storm stormed into Crypto.Com Arena and defeated the Sparks in their house, 82-64.
64 sounded great as a video game system 30 years ago when the WNBA was established. 64 isn't great as far as scoring that many points in a WNBA game.
