Francona has one guaranteed year left on his original three-year contract, plus a club option for 2028. Toney's week one performance against Stanford on Saturday will never be forgotten, literally, because he set the Miami Hurricanes' single-game receiving record with 234 yards and a hat trick. Eddie Brown previously set the record in 1984 against Boston College with 220 receiving yards. He finished his 2025 campaign with 1,211 receiving yards, 109 receptions, and 10 touchdowns, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards at 18 years old.
Miami head coach Mario Cristobal was asked about Toney on the Pat McAfee Show and gave nothing but praise to his star-studded receiver: "He's put on 12–14 pounds of muscle man; he can accelerate and decelerate at a higher rate." Cristobal said. "He is stronger, he is faster, and then the time he puts in it's never changed, he always tries to push the envelope with that."
Cristobal's praise and the stats tell the story of the player Toney is, but three games could close the door on his competition.

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Kamden Sixkiller threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns, Spencer Jones had a career-high 126 yards receiving and a score, and Campbell beat Western Carolina 28-19 on Sunday in a game postponed due to weather.
Campbell is off to its first 2-0 start since 2018 after securing the program's second victory over an FCS top 25 opponent. WCU entered ranked No. 24 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll after beating Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 29.
Campbell scored a touchdown on its first two drives before taking a 21-3 lead early in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Ethan Lawrence that was set up by a 43-yard strike from Sixkiller to Brady Ambrose. Sixkiller also found Ambrose for a 6-yard TD to cap a 10-play, 91-yard drive to start the game, and Sixkiller scored on an 8-yard run for a 14-0 lead.
Sixkiller finished 29-of-44 passing with three interceptions for Campbell. JJ Cowan had a team-high 83 yards on the ground. The Camels posted 528 yards of total offense for their second straight game with 500-plus.
Lex Thomas was 25-of-44 passing for 326 yards and two touchdowns for Western Carolina (1-1). Both of Jai Boyd's catches were for touchdowns.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith is coming back for a 15th season.
The Vikings announced Saturday that they had agreed to terms on a deal with the six-time Pro Bowl selection who has spent his entire career in Minnesota. Terms weren't disclosed.
Smith had indicated at the end of last season that he wasn't sure whether he would retire or play again in 2026, and his future was the subject of speculation thoughout the offseason.
The 37-year-old Smith is one of only four players ever to have 50 tackles for loss and 100 passes defended while playing at least 200 career games. The others are Charles Woodson, Brian Dawkins and Ronde Barber.
Smith has 21 1/2 career sacks and 39 interceptions. Barber is the only other NFL player to ever have at least 38 interceptions and 21 ½ sacks.

COLLEGE STATION - ESPN's ranking of the country's top college football players featured numerous players from Texas schools but only one Texas A&M player made the list.
Wide receiver Mario Craver slotted in at No. 86 on the list.
"I really don't look too much into that," Craver said. "Everybody got their own opinion honestly. I don't really let that fill in my head."
Craver transferred from Mississippi State after his freshman season in 2024, making nine starts for the Aggies in 2025. He caught 59 passes for 917 yards and four touchdowns during the campaign, which led to the first College Football Playoff appearance for Texas A&M.
ESPN named him the 87th best player in the country at the end of the 2025 season, one of three Texas A&M players to make the list. Fellow wide receiver KC Conception and defensive lineman Cashius Howell also joined him in the top 100, but both have since moved onto the NFL.

The Oregon Ducks continue to load up on recruiting visits for a critical November matchup at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks will host five-star wideout Braylon Clark on Nov. 14, when Michigan comes to Eugene for an important Big Ten clash.
Clark, a top 10 player in the 2028 recruiting class, has lined up six visits for the fall. The 6-foot-3 receiver from Charlotte, North Carolina, will check out LSU, Texas A&M, Alabama and Miami this fall, as well as taking two trips to Ohio State. He'll be in Columbus to see the Buckeyes take on the Ducks before heading to Eugene the following weekend.
Ohio State is seen as the favorite, but Oregon has also been involved from the start. The Ducks have not added a commitment in the 2028 cycle yet, but Dan Lanning has had historic success landing elite wideouts on the recruiting trail in recent years. Clark could continue the trend, but the Ducks will have to put in the work.
"My favorite thing that Dan Lanning has built is the culture he built and it gets me excited that I have an opportunity to play for him," Clark told Rivals. "(I have a) great relationship with receivers coach (Ross Douglas) and seeing their receiver production."
Clark broke out as a sophomore at Providence Day School, catching 65 passes for 1,093 yards and 14 touchdowns. He's already off to a hot start in two games so far this season, making 11 catches for 209 yards and three touchdowns.

NEW YORK — On the last changeover of the final Grand Slam tournament he will ever play, Stan Wawrinka sat in his chair, leaned all the way forward and fiddled with his wristbands.
Eventually, he unbowed his head and took a drink, toweled himself off and tried to jog some life into his legs as he waited for the applause to build.
Wawrinka's fans stuffed themselves into every inch of Grandstand court Monday at the US Open, hoping to see one more down-the-line winner roped off his majestic one-handed backhand, one more screaming fist pump, one more finger pointed to his temple after a huge point — the signature celebration from his brief time as the antidote to the dominance of tennis' Big Three.
Try as they might to will a Wawrinka comeback into existence, the "Let's go Stan" chants faded. Moments later, he walked to the net and embraced Matteo Berrettini, who had beaten him 7-6, 7-6, 6-0. Then he went to the middle of the court, clapped his hands and tapped his heart.
"I'm gonna miss it for sure," Wawrinka said, voice cracking. "I'm gonna miss it."

LeBron James and Austin Reaves formed a great bond during their time as teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers, but it turns out the former might not have been too pleased about deferring to the latter last season. James became the third option on the Lakers behind Reaves and Luka Doncic, and The Athletic's Law Murray revealed his internal struggle during a Reddit AMA.
"Covering LeBron James last season, he had an internal conflict going on with how much he had to defer to Austin Reaves (even Bron understood that Luka was the top dawg in any circumstance)," Murray stated. "Bron was very pleased with being able to still be the lead option in a postseason setting, particularly a winning one against the Rockets."
Doncic is a generational talent at the peak of his powers, while Reaves is an undrafted guard who has improved with each passing year. It would have been a lot easier to defer to one of them.
As for how James found himself in that position, the Lakers were struggling a bit in the first half of the 2025-26 campaign when he, Doncic, and Reaves were all on the floor together. There was some improvement over time, but it was only when the pecking order changed that they really took off.
It was around March 2026 that Reaves took over as the second option and James, who has now left for the Philadelphia 76ers, settled for third for the first time in his career. The 41-year-old said then that he was willing to sacrifice if it benefited the team. It sure did.

Cameron Young birdied seven out of nine holes during the middle of Friday's second round in Atlanta, charging up the Tour Championship leaderboard a day removed after being tied in last place.
He eagled at par-5 18th to complete an 8-under 62 and temporarily catch first round leader Min Woo Lee, who completed his first hole a few minutes before Young's day ended.
It was a remarkable turn of event for Young, who was just three players in the field to card an opening round 70. He bogeyed three of his first five holes and never recovered Thursday, despite a Round 1 scoring average that dipped below 67.
The difference a day makes.
Round 2 was the complete opposite for the 2026 Players champ, who was the first player off the tee and posted a 30 on his front nine behind a string of three straight birdies from holes Nos. 4 through 6.

Bayern Munich has decided that Maycon Cardozo and Tim Binder are better served continuing their development in Bavaria rather than heading out on loan.
According to Sky Germany's journalist Kerry Hau, both teenagers attracted several interesting loan offers, but Bayern Munich decided to keep them in the squad. The plan is for Cardozo and Binder to continue training regularly with Vincent Kompany's senior team, after making strong impressions during preseason.
That is a significant vote of confidence in two players who have emerged as intriguing prospects at the Bayern campus.
Cardozo, 17, has already made history at Bayern Munich. He became the first player from the club's World Squad program to appear for the senior team when he made his Bundesliga debut last season. He has continued progressing through the youth ranks, while also gaining experience with Bayern Munich II.

The Arizona Cardinals have some roster decisions to make by the end of the week, and the running back room has an important one. What will the Cardinals do with running back James Conner?
He isn't in any real danger of being cut, as he has $2.1 million of his more than $2.3 million in salary guaranteed. He is coming off a severe ankle injury last season, but he has not participated yet in any 11-on-11 work in practices.
Head coach Mike LaFleur has been adamant that the team will trust Conner in communicating when he will be ready to play, as he knows his body best.

The Toronto Blue Jays have leaned heavily on Max Scherzer's experience throughout this season and last, even when the veteran right-hander has been dealing with health issues or struggling to find his best form on the mound.
That value extends beyond what Scherzer can provide on the mound. With more than a decade of postseason experience, three Cy Young Awards and a place among baseball's all-time strikeout leaders, Scherzer remains one of the most respected voices in the Blue Jays' clubhouse. His competitive edge has never really disappeared, either, even if he isn't still the frontline ace he once was.
"I never once lost belief in my ability, if I'm healthy, to be able to go out there and get outs, compete and try to win ballgames," Scherzer recently told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The Mount Vernon Mountaineers hosted Forsythe, McDonald County and Strattford high schools to kick off the 2026 football season with exhibition play on Friday night.

Baylor would run the ball on the next play and Croucher returned to complete the drive.Manning transferred to Baylor ahead of his eighth grade year from Denver and is serving as Baylor's backup quarterback this season.

Not many teams in the NFL utilize the fullback position as they did 20 years ago, but let's imagine the Cincinnati Bengals manage to utilize one this season. It's actually conceivable, and it comes in the form of a seventh-round draft pick.
Landon Robinson was seemingly on the Bengals' radar from the Senior Bowl. Sure enough, the Bengals drafted the defensive tackle from Navy and an Ohio native in the seventh round this past April. Robinson shined in the preseason opener last Thursday, showing a ferocity to get into the offensive backfield and disrupt the flow of the play the opposing offense is trying to run.
However, the Bengals have a deep defensive line, so they may find another way to keep Robinson on the 53-man roster: Giving him reps at fullback.
Robinson at fullback? Before you quickly dismiss this notion, remember that Domata Peko came in multiple times and acted as a fullback in goal-line situations. A guy like Robinson can play a similar role.
"Coach Pitcher came to me and said, 'Hey Landon, have you ever played fullback?'" said Robinson. "I was able to sit in on a couple of offensive meetings, and he installed the goal-line package.

After Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson went down with a hamstring injury during a joint-practice session with the Jaguars last week, questions have been flying around regarding the status of the training camp standout. An update was finally delivered on Monday, and it does not bode well for the Saints.
According to reports from Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Tyson's hamstring injury is expected to keep him sidelined for roughly two months. In addition, he might begin the season on the Saints ' short-term Injured Reserve list.
The unfortunate injury brings to an abrupt halt the momentum Tyson had been building over training camp, as he had been ramping up his involvement with the team's offense in the week prior to his injury – reportedly generating more first-team opportunities and developing chemistry with quarterback Tyler Shough.
It continues a string of unfortunate injury issues that have plagued Tyson throughout his collegiate career, as he also dealt with a strained hamstring and a sprained ankle last year, as well as a fractured collarbone in 2024. The Saints will hope to see Tyson recover quickly and avoid such recurring injuries as he gets his professional career underway.

Well, this was ugly in every conceivable way. However, the Diamondbacks can perhaps be forgiven for being "off" this evening in Boston, as matters off the field took center stage. Face of the franchise Ketel Marte no-showed at Fenway Park this afternoon, forcing a roster change with just minutes to go before first pitch, as he was placed on the restricted list. Mitch Bratt had a bad start, Zack Littell showed why he got DFA'd, and the offense was barely more present than Marte, as the D-backs lost the opening game of the series against the Red Sox, by a large margin, which accurately reflected the tenor and tone of this one.
The weirdness began with the late announcement of the team's line-up. And when I say late, there was less than ten minutes to go before first pitch, and there was still nothing from the D-backs. Finally, a late, shocking roster move was announced. Ketel Marte had been placed on the restricted list, with Jose Fernandez replacing him. Fortunately, Fernandez was in town anyway, as possible coverage had Nolan Arenado had to go on the injured list. That was avoided – Arenado is officially day-to-day with his trunk issue (I'm going to keep calling it that!) – so he could take Marte's spot on the roster.
But what had happened to Ketel? Everyone was stunned, even John Gambadoro, who usually is very good at having the pulse of the team, called the move "so unexpected." It was known that Marte had flown to Boston with the team – his Instagram feed made that clear, with a report of teammate Corbin Carroll winning NL Player of the Week being the last post. But he wasn't at Fenway for batting practice. The team gave him as long as possible, but eventually had to pull the trigger. Nick Piecoro had as much an explanation as anyone: "I'm told Ketel Marte is doing OK physically, he just didn't show up to the ballpark tonight."
While we all pondered what that might mean – especially given Marte's previous willingness to go AWOL, necessitating a trip to the restricted list – there was still a game going on. Sort of. In the sense that only Boston seemed to turn up. From the first pitch, it seemed that starter Mitch Bratt was not on form, with his pitches a couple of miles per hour down on normal. Considering he has been a command and control guy, rather than a power one, this wasn't good. But the command wasn't there either. He walked two in the first and, though Bratt was able to strand them, a lead-off walk in the second came round to score, plus one more, for a 2-0 Red Sox lead.
After one more inning, and one more run, Bratt was done for the night after 65 pitches. His final line: three innings of work, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks. He was basically a shadow of his previous three starts, where he tossed 18 innings and allowed three runs. The team turned to Zack Littell as the long relief mop-up guy, and it's safe to say his second outing wasn't anywhere near as good as his previous one either. To be blunt, we ki

Spain's World Cup-winning captain is set to leave the Etihad Stadium to join the LaLiga champions and leave City with the question of how to replace him.
Barcelona had two previous offers for Rodri refused with City deeming the first, of just £38.4m, not serious but their third bid matched City's valuation.
Rodri, who had been reluctant to sign a new deal, has entered the last year of his contract and City risked losing him on a free transfer if he was not sold this summer. Now they will have two weeks to find a replacement.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Joey Cantillo and three relievers combined on a one-hitter and José Ramírez had an RBI in one of his best games since undergoing hand surgery, leading the Cleveland Guardians to a 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.
Cleveland became the third AL franchise to reach 10,000 victories, joining the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
Cantillo (9-7) went six innings and cooled off the Padres, who had won six straight and 16 of 20 since July 24. The left-hander allowed only a single in the first inning on a ball that hopped over first baseman Nathaniel Lowe.
Colin Holderman, Hunter Gaddis and Erik Sabrowski finished up.
Cleveland hasn't had a no-hitter since 1981 — the longest current drought in the majors.
