Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride will play with a refined passion in 2026. With the 2025 season in his rearview mirror and the Los Angeles Chargers ahead, McBride is hoping that his passion and premier pass-catching can spark the beginning of a new chapter for the franchise.
The Chargers lost defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who moved on to a head coaching position with the Baltimore Ravens. Still, Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. is on the roster and his skillset poses a significant opposition for McBride. Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur still has plans on making McBride the focus of the team offense and it'll come down to pure will to determine whether or not McBride can muscle up.
The Cardinals seem to have a competent offensive personnel group at the skills positions but time will tell how their offensive line fares in 2026. Play-action and the quick passing game are both strategies where LaFleur and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett are likely to call on McBride's jersey number. McBride is quick and physical, plus his route running makes him a mismatch for most opposing linebackers and safeties.
Ultimately, if the Cardinals are to stand a chance on Sunday, they will rely on their passing attack to propel the offense and that'll mean that McBride must be exceptionally magnificent. The Chargers allowed just 19.8 points per game in 2025, but without the mastermind of Minter, McBride might locate a few breaches that can be exploited.

LAS VEGAS — When the Golden Knights traded Pavel Dorofeyev to the New York Rangers back on June 26, general manager Kelly McCrimmon knew he had to find a way to replace the 37 goals Dorofeyev scored for Vegas last season.

In signing Braeden Bowman to a six-year contract extension, McCrimmon is betting that Bowman can fill some of the void.

Bowman's deal, which kicks in for the 2027-28 season and runs through 2033 has an average annual value of $3.4 million. He's scheduled to make $875,000 this coming season in the second year of his recent two-year deal.

It seems like a lot of money for someone with limited NHL experience. But the Knights like what the 6-foot-1, 205-pound 23-year-old winger gives them — a big, physical net presence with a scorer's touch. And if Bowman develops as McCrimmon hopes, that $3.4 million could look like a bargain down the road.

Bowman split time between the Golden Knights and the Henderson Silver Knights last season. His NHL numbers were eight goals and 18 ***** ists in 54 games. In the AHL, he had better than a point a game with 12 goals and 14 ***** ists in 20 games.

More important, Bowman has played under Ryan Craig, who is now the Golden Knights' head coach. Craig knows Bowman from their time together in Henderson and he'll figure out where best to play him. When Bruce Cassidy was the coach, Bowman played up and down the lineup. With John Tortorella, Bowman only got into one game, that being Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against Carolina.

"He's a great coach," Bowman told KTNV when asked about Craig while at the team's annual golf outing earlier this week at TPC Summerlin. "He's a great person, too. He's honest, fair — everything you want in a coach."

Bowman told the television station that he has spent the summer anticipating a larger role in the NHL and he wants to be ready.

"I just focused on getting bigger, stronger," Bowman said. "I want to make the jump and be a full-time guy, so get stronger, work on my speed and get my pace up."

West Bromwich Albion left-back Callum Styles has said he has taken on more of a leadership role in the side after the departures of several experienced players and the arrival of younger talent during the summer transfer window.
Seven new arrivals at The Hawthorns were aged 23 or younger, while three players aged over 30 made their exits this summer alongside Karlan Grant and Kristian Bielik, both 28, and 27-year-old Josh Maja.
The plan to bring more youth into the team means Styles, 26, is one of the older members of the squad.
"I think that's natural [to step into leadership] when you've played a lot of games in the Championship and you're getting older season by season," Styles told BBC Radio WM.
"Quite a few of us that were here last year feel like it's our role to then get the new lads adjusted to the league, to the team and to the physicality as quickly as possible.

Former UConn women's basketball star Gabby Williams has been tasked with leading an ultra-talented France squad that's hoping to finally knock off the United States at the FIBA Women's World Cup this month.
Williams was named captain of the Bleues Tuesday as she prepares to make her 56th appearance for France against Hungary Friday evening. She becomes the first active WNBA player to captain France at an Olympic Games or FIBA World Cup since 2014.
The Golden State Valkyries star takes over as captain from 32-year-old Valériane Ayayi, who returned to the WNBA after more than a decade this season with Phoenix. Sarah Michel, who played her entire club career overseas, captained France at the 2022 FIBA World Cup and 2024 Olympics before announcing her international retirement.
While Williams was born in Nevada, her mother, Thérèse, hails from France and the forward grew up speaking French. Excelling in both basketball and track - Williams competed in the 2012 Olympic trials - during her high school tenure, she committed to UConn over several high-profile suitors before the 2014-15 season. NEW YORK — It has largely been forgotten to history, but the last time Coco Gauff came in as the US Open favorite, her first-round match turned into an anxiety check. Down a set to Laura Siegemund, whose tricky strokes and gamesmanship got under Gauff's skin, it forced her to dig deep right away en route to her first major ***** le three years ago.
There was a moment in Gauff's 2026 debut Tuesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium when things could have taken a similar course. After cruising through the first set and quickly breaking to start the second against, Gauff's opponent Zeynep Sonmez started redlining.
In tennis parlance, redlining is essentially when an underdog decides they have nothing to lose, starts taking big risks and gets into a groove where every shot seems to go in. In a blink, Gauff went from cruising to a quick victory to down 2-3 and facing a break point. With Sonmez taking huge cuts at the ball and landing some heavy punches, it looked like things might get complicated.
But Gauff in 2026 is not as easily flustered under the weight of heavy expectations as she was at age 19. Instead, Gauff can now turn matches like this into just another day at the office, raising her game on cue to wrap up a 6-3, 6-4 win in 80 minutes.

Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto has confirmed Boubacar Traore will remain at the club after their 4-1 victory over Stoke City.
Traore's future had been the subject of speculation with Anderlecht reportedly keen, but Peixoto was unequivocal when asked whether the midfielder, who came off the bench in his side's victory, would leave Molineux.
"He won't go, he stays with us," Peixoto told the Express and Star.
Asked whether Traore was happy at Wolves, Peixoto suggested the midfielder was content with the situation.

When the Arizona State women's basketball program hired viral head coach Molly Miller, who went 117-38 (.760) at Grand Canyon prior to ASU, to take over the Sun Devils, the team was expected to make a turnaround.
But no one could have imagined how quickly that turnaround came.
Miller took a program that was 53-88 and 17-65 in conference play over the past two seasons and turned it into a 24-11 team with an NCAA Tournament berth. On Thursday night, Arizona State rewarded Miller with a new contract that will keep her in Tempe for the foreseeable future.
The program announced its plan to keep "Molly's Momentum" rolling after a historic year.

After the first matchday of Serie A, the talking points we've seen are the usual ones: refereeing decisions, the transfer market still being open, the post-match reactions where some vent by criticizing and others take little digs as a strategy.
The routine we waited for all summer, however, mustn't put us on autopilot, because something different happened: young Italians actually played. It seems unbelievable, but it's true: Mattia Liberali, Simone Lontani, Alessandro Romano (Swiss with dual citizenship), Emanuele Lulli, Alphadjo Cisse and Alessio Cacciamani took the field.
Some did so as starters, others came off the bench: for not all of them was it their absolute Serie A debut, but the wider public really discovered them just a few days ago. The comparison with the other top European leagues is still a long way off (to put it kindly), but at least we're trying: "Better something than nothing," as Gianni Brera would have said.

During the summer he trained on his own in Montesilvano (Abruzzo) to get back into shape after tearing his adductor tendon, an injury that had cut short an excellent season with Aquilani's Catanzaro. Throughout July, Sassuolo and Torino wanted him on loan, but Amorim chose to keep him and throw him in. He is already repaying that faith.

Austin Hill has been knocking on the door of the NASCAR Cup Series for years. In 2027, Richard Childress Racing is finally handing him the keys.
RCR announced Monday that Hill will drive the No. 33 Chevrolet full time next season, giving the longtime organization driver his first full-time opportunity at NASCAR's highest level.
It's a promotion that has felt increasingly inevitable. Hill has become one of the most successful drivers in NASCAR's O'Reilly Auto Parts Series while steadily adding Cup starts to his workload. Rather than rush him into the sport's top division, RCR has allowed the 32-year-old to build experience along the way.
Now the waiting is over.
"I'm extremely thankful to Richard and everyone at RCR for believing in me and giving me this opportunity," Hill said. "Every race car driver dreams of competing full time in the NASCAR Cup Series, and to have that opportunity with RCR is something I don't take for granted."

Last time the Indiana Fever met the Chicago Sky on the court, Chicago guard DiJonai Carrington was ejected from the game after a hard foul on Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. While she had the rematch against the Fever circled on her calendar, she ultimately fell flat in that game, and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was there to enjoy it.
After the Sky fell in a blowout to the Fever on Sunday night in a game where Carrington had minimal impact, Portnoy took to social media to mock the Chicago guard for "making a fool out of herself."
After the Aug. 8 game in which Carrington was ejected, the Sky guard circled the rematch with the Fever on her calendar.
"8/23," she wrote in a post on X, adding a smiley face emoji.
Aug. 23, of course, was the date of Sunday night's game between the Fever and Sky in Chicago.

For 48 minutes, and then some, the Lebanon and Pendleton Heights football teams traded blow after blow on the Tigers' home field in the season opener.
And when they needed it the most, the Arabians senior quarterback delivered with the game on the line. Brandt Gray ran in a two-point conversion at the end of the first overtime, giving visiting Pendleton Heights a thrilling 43-42 win over Lebanon.
"We bent, and we had a hard time stopping them all night," Pendleton Heights head coach Jed Richman said. "(Lebanon) did a great job. Last week we could hardly practice because of the flooding and the weather, and I know they had some struggles too, but it was a lot of perseverance and guts out of this group, and it's just the beginning. I am just really, really proud of them."
Lebanon got the ball first in overtime, and scored on its second play on a 5-yard run by quarterback Jacob Linton.
After the play there was a scrum on the goal line, and Lebanon was ******* sed a 15-yard penalty when it appeared they were lining up for a two-point conversion.

Scuderia Ferrari Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton opened up about a challenging period in his junior racing career that threatened to derail his path to Formula 1. He also mentioned his current team principal, Fred Vasseur, who played a key role in his early racing days.
Ahead of this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, Hamilton recalled a particularly stressful period of his junior career when he competed in Formula 3 in 2005 for the McLaren-backed ASM Formule 3 team, which was headed by Vasseur. The seven-time world champion was eager to progress toward F1 and regularly contacted Martin Whitmarsh, then a senior McLaren figure, asking when he would get a chance to drive an F1 car.
That year was particularly difficult because Hamilton, who was 20 at the time, lost his McLaren contract while trying to move into the newly launched GP2 series. He described that as one of the most challenging periods of his life. However, he returned to F3, won his next races and ultimately regained McLaren's backing. Speaking about the episode, he said:
"I worked with Fred (Vasseur) in Formula 3, 2005 I think it was. It was an interesting period of time for me in my life. I was obviously, as every young kid, in a rush to get to Formula 1, hoping that I could potentially get there and never know when that chance would come.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive line coach Andy Heck spoke with reporters after practice on Wednesday at Missouri Western State University. He praised undrafted free agent rookie offensive lineman Kahlil Benson's development at training camp, noting he has quickly become a trusted member of the unit.
"I think you're right. It's a great story, and our scouts did a great job bringing him in. Right away, you could see in our rookie minicamp that he had dominant physical traits," said Heck. "So, we're doing our best to train him at a couple of positions, give him an opportunity to grow, learn our system, learn a couple of positions. He's done a great job; he's working his tail off."
The recent injury to Pro Bowl guard Trey Smith has opened the door for Benson to see more time in his place during the preseason. Heck is using Smith's recovery as an opportunity to see Benson's potential aside from the tackle position.
"Absolutely, the number one benefit is for him, as a tackle primarily, probably his best position, he's a guy that will only add to his value if he can play guard." said Heck, "So, with Trey (Smith) missing some time, that's a great opportunity to give a guy some training for those days that, hey, I may want to (or) need to plug him in there to find our best combination. So, it only benefits him."
Benson wasn't selected in the 2026 NFL Draft but was a member of the Indiana Hoosiers' 2025 CFP National Championship roster. He saw action in 49 games in college, splitting stints at Indiana (2022-2023, 2025) and with the Colorado Buffaloes (2024).

OKOBOJI, Iowa (KCAU) - Last season was one to rembember for Okoboji football as the Pioneers secured the team's most wins in a single season since 2008, but the team is far from satisfied.
Okoboji rolled into mid-October with a 7-0 record, but tumbled in the team's final two games - including a double-digit loss at home to Unity Christian in the first round of the IHSAA 2A Playoffs.
Leading rusher and top returning receiver Asa Jacobsen is back to pace the Pioneers while quarterback Trey Vander Pol is back after throwing for over 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. Okoboji returns all but six carries from a year ago.
The Pioneers have turned the page on last season, but are motivated to go even further.
"We felt like we were on top of the world all season. In those those last two games of the season, they suck. But they definitely helped to prepare us for this year. They got us in that mental state that we talk about trying to push past that and get the kids going next year," Jacobsen said. We've got a lot of key pieces back and a lot of guys that are bought in. You can sense the buzz around the town coming into the football season and we're excited to go win some more games this year."

Yesterday against the Phillies, the Twins scored four in the first, failed to add on in the middle innings, and ended up losing the game after the bullpen blew the lead. Tonight, the Twins scored four in the first, failed to add on in the middle innings, but won the game when the bullpen was able to preserve the lead. Though, they were one nice Kody Clemens play away from this being almost exactly the same as yesterday.
Let's start at the beginning.
After a short rain delay, the Twins came into this outing with a clear strategy against old friend Martín Perez: don't swing at anything low if you don't have two strikes, and it worked very well as Perez couldn't find the bottom of the zone early. The first six Minnesota batters reached to give the Twins an early advantage.
Luke Keaschall led off the bottom of the first with a hustle double, then Perez walked both Byron Buxton and Ryan Jeffers to load the bases for the middle of the lineup. Josh Bell then hit a two run double to give the Twins an early lead, but however you're picturing this Bell double came to pass, you're almost definitely wrong.

Tanner McKee has already shown enough in the NFL to make the idea of trading him intriguing. He has shown moxie in relief and as a starter. Fair or unfair, that makes the Philadelphia Eagles' preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens feel particularly disappointing. It is easy to forget that McKee's first NFL game action came in Week 17 of his second season in 2024, when he replaced Kenny Pickett against the Dallas Cowboys and threw two touchdown passes on just three completions.
The following week, he completed 27 of 41 passes with two touchdowns in a 20-13 victory over the New York Giants as Philadelphia's starter. His 2025 season was quieter, which was understandable for a third-string quarterback.
McKee made only one start, completing 21 of 40 passes with one touchdown and one interception in a 24-17 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 18. Perspective is necessary, though. The Eagles weren't playing their starters that week, and there wasn't much to play for.
The circumstances made the game feel somewhat like a preseason contest, even if it technically counted. Saturday's loss in Baltimore carried even less consequence. However, McKee's performance still mattered because Philadelphia is evaluating him alongside Andy Dalton and may also be considering his value on the trade market.
There has been plenty of discussion surrounding Philadelphia's reported attempts to trade McKee, including speculation that the Eagles' asking price in draft capital (a second-rounder) may have been too high for interested teams.

Dean Huijsen enjoyed a special moment in Real Madrid's 3-0 victory over Schalke 04 on Sunday, scoring a goal and speaking about what it means to wear the club's famous number 4 shirt.

The Baltimore Orioles won two straight games against the AL East division leading Tampa Bay Rays, and Pete Alonso has been instrumental in those wins.
That's why it was particularly concerning when Alonso appeared to limp and struggle in the 10th inning while running to first base.

Inter Milan have completed the signing of Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur, with the defender agreeing a five-year contract with the Serie A champions.
The 26-year-old has joined Inter for a reported fee of around €30 million (£25.6m), bringing his four-year spell in north London to an end. Spence will remain at San Siro until June 2031.
Spence arrived at Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022 and went on to make 85 appearances for the club. He played an important role in their Europa League triumph during the 2024-25 campaign, while making 44 appearances across all competitions last season.

Aug. 14—The letter was still in Hillsboro resident Evan Kitchens' hands when he read it aloud a second time, just to make sure he had gotten it right.
Evan had been selected to compete in the Special Olympics USA Games at the University of Minnesota.
"You should have seen our faces when we saw it together," he said.
His mother, Melissa Kitchens, had gotten the letter first and handed it straight to him.
"He read it like two or three times just to fully register he was going," she said. "Then he immediately had to start preparing. He had to get a headshot, sign ESPN waivers, get a physical."

Fantasy football IDP rankings are harder to come by than the standard NFL fare, especially DL rankings. It's a niche I've enjoyed for more than 20 years. But I understand the broader appeal of an offense-only league. Or even the use of kickers and team defenses, which I've avoided for about a decade. Just pointing out personal preferences are okay and don't need to be justified. Play in and enjoy the leagues that you like!
In IDP leagues, I prefer a split between defensive tackles and defensive ends. Ideally, you should have to start one defensive tackle and two defensive ends.
My 2026 IDP DL rankings diverge from the consensus more in the depths than in the shallows. Best to play it safe and stick with the names who've been getting it done for years at the top.
The consensus and my own IDP DL rankings align closely at the top. Myles Garrett, Aidan Hutchinson and the other elite pass rushers sit in similar spots on both. However, I have Garrett in his own first tier. I think he's earned it, even on a new team. Hopefully, he'll soon be joined by future Hall of Famer and the greatest defensive tackle of all time (it's not close), Aaron Donald.
The gaps in my DL rankings show up in the later rounds, where offseason moves and injuries changed how I read five players. Three of them fall inside my top 36, so they carry real weight for draft-day decisions ****** uming you're in a deeper league.
