Aug 2 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Sunday he will not hesitate to repeat a U.S. and ****** anese coordinated foreign exchange intervention that countered disorderly yen movements and urged that a Federal Reserve backstop for foreign central banks and monetary authorities be "upsized."
Bessent indicated in a social media posting on X that the Fed's Foreign and International Monetary Authorities lending facility was used in the coordinated action on Friday, which was confirmed by ****** an's finance ministry and President Donald Trump.
"The FIMA Repo Facility is an important backstop. We should encourage it to be upsized in the coming months," Bessent said.
Created by the Fed during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the FIMA Repo Facility allows countries that keep Treasury securities on deposit at the New York Fed to get up to $60 billion in U.S. dollar loans for up to seven days. The loans are offered at a rate typically above the open-market repo rate, so the expectation is that its use would be limited to times of market stress.

The San Francisco Giants did the inevitable and got rid of multiple players in a fire sale during MLB's trade deadline in hopes of salvaging the remainder of the season with a focus on next year.
Six players were shipped out of San Francisco and on to different teams. Those players included Tyler Mahle to the Atlanta Braves, Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian to the Philadelphia Phillies, Heliot Ramos to the New York Yankees, Robbie Ray to the San Diego Padres, and Erik Miller to the Boston Red Sox.
In return, the Giants got back a couple right-handed pitchers, Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair, from the Phillies. The Padres sent right-hand pitcher Miguel Mendez and infielder Joniel Hernandez to the Bay Area. The Yankees sent back left-hand pitcher Henry Lalane and shortstop Kaeden Kent, son of Giants legend and Hall of Famer Jeff Kent. San Francisco got infielder Marcelo Mayer from Boston. While Anthony Molina, who they immediately ******* igned to their Triple-A affiliate, Sacramento River Cats, came via trade with the Braves.

The deadline passed at 5 p.m. Monday with the Rangers staying largely dormant. Beginning on Sunday morning and continuing into Monday morning, though, the buzz was that the Rangers were going to be deadline sellers because of what happened over the weekend in Houston.
The sale was on, one national expert said. Another said the Rangers were open to moving all players on the team. It all turned out to be an echo chamber of bad information.

I'm going to start this by addressing the headline. When it comes to Atlanta Braves President of Baseball Operations/General Manager Alex Anthopoulos' claims that the Braves got better after the 2026 Trade Deadline, I'll let this clip from Futurama speak for me:
I mean, the Braves did add Tyler Mahle to the rotation, they added some very solid outfield depth in Lane Thomas and they brought in Brent Suter to help fortify what's already a solid bullpen. Technically speaking, the Braves got better with these additions.
With that being said, it's very difficult to feel excited and that is solely down to the fact that Atlanta was unable to add a front-line starter to their rotation. It now appears that (outside of the ever-reliable Chris Sale) the Braves will be leaning on pitchers like Martín Pérez, AJ Smith-Shawver, Bryce Elder, (maybe) Spencer Schwellenbach and the newly-acquired Tyler Mahle to help them get outs during a Postseason scenario. Again, it's difficult to feel excited!
Despite the overwhelming feeling of underwhelm permeating across Braves Country, AA remained defiant and adamant that everything is A-OK as far as the team is concerned. "Since the All-Star break, […] we've been fifth in MLB in ERA. During the first two months of the season we were top-five in MLB in ERA," maintained AA when he was asked about the pitching staff during a post-deadline press conference. . "Obviously in the middle, we weren't. Does that mean you're not looking to get better? Absolutely, in all areas — bullpen, offense, rotation, yes. But, you're managing short-term and long term and you're going to do what you feel is best for the club and you're not going to force a deal."

UFC and parent company TKO Group Holdings said late Monday that they generated a series of financial gains during the second quarter, despite roughly $30 million in fiscal losses from June's UFC Freedom 250 in Washington, D.C.
In a TKO quarterly earnings report, UFC reported a 29% ****** p in total revenue to $535.7 million and a 15% ****** p in adjusted earnings to $35.6 million. The unprecedented setting on the White House South Lawn did not allow UFC to charge fans for tickets, but still fueled a series of other historic results, including in merchandise sales and sponsorships, and an estimated $1 billion in earned media value.
"The card, the production, and the storytelling were a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle on the biggest stage possible," TKO president and COO Mark Shapiro said in a call with ****** ysts.
The latest results arrived seven weeks after UFC Freedom 250 main event completed a largely successful, but still often-chaotic and politically charged weekend in the nation's capital. Nearly 200,000 people attended at the Ellipse, adjacent to the South Lawn where the fights were held. In a TKO quarterly earnings report, UFC reported a 29% ****** p in total revenue to $535.7 million and a 15% ****** p in adjusted earnings to $35.6 million. The unprecedented setting on the White House South Lawn did not allow UFC to charge fans for tickets, but still fueled a series of other historic results, including in merchandise sales and sponsorships, and an estimated $1 billion in earned media value.
"The card, the production, and the storytelling were a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle on the biggest stage possible," TKO president and COO Mark Shapiro said in a call with ****** ysts.
The latest results arrived seven weeks after UFC Freedom 250 main event completed a largely successful, but still often-chaotic and politically charged weekend in the nation's capital. Nearly 200,000 people attended at the Ellipse, adjacent to the South Lawn where the fights were held. Merchandise sales, meanwhile, doubled the prior UFC record, and White said Paramount CEO David Ellison was pleased with the event's impact on the Paramount+ streaming service.

We're a few days into the month of August and now Atlanta's ace hurler has received some recognition for what he did during July.

NEW DELHI: There was a time when Auqib Nabi didn't own a pair of bowling spikes.
For his first U-19 trial in Jammu & Kashmir, the fast bowler from Baramulla borrowed a pair from a friend. When he eventually earned selection, fate threw up another twist. The friend who had lent him the spikes didn't make the squad. Auqib borrowed another pair from him and played his entire first U-19 tournament in borrowed shoes.
Today, Auqib is making a name for himself with a skill that many fast bowlers spend years trying to master: the ability to swing the ball both ways. He has now earned his maiden India call-up, with the 29-year-old seamer from Jammu & Kashmir replacing the injured Jasprit ******* rah in India's Test squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
Nabi has picked up 104 wickets over the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, virtually breaking the selection door down with his performances. He was also part of the India A squad that toured Sri Lanka recently, where he claimed six wickets in two First Class matches.
Yet, the road to the Indian dressing room wasn't built in fancy academies or elite fast-bowling programmes. It was shaped by a long journey, borrowed equipment and an obsession with learning.
"My parents are government school teachers. Initially, they wanted me to focus on studies, which was natural. Cricket wasn't something we had planned. A friend told me about the Under-19 trials. Until then, I didn't even know they were happening," Auqib had told reporters after picking up a five-wicket haul on the opening day of the Delhi vs Jammu & Kashmir Ranji Trophy match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in November 2025.
Like countless youngsters in Kashmir, his cricketing education began with tennis-ball matches. The transition to leather-ball cricket, however, brought a different challenge.
"The most basic thing a fast bowler needs is a turf wicket," he had said. "Baramulla had turf, but you couldn't bowl there wearing spikes. So I had to travel to Srinagar to practice."
The one-and-a-half-hour journey from Baramulla to Srinagar became part of his routine. Hours on the road simply to bowl a few overs on a proper surface. For many aspiring cricketers, inadequate facilities become a convenient excuse. Auqib never allowed himself that luxury.
"If you want to play for India, these things cannot become excuses. If you want it badly enough, you have to do it."
That philosophy continues to define him.
The philosophy kept motivating him day in and day out, but it was his obsession with learning that made him the bowler he is today.
"When he first joined the J&K team for the Buchi Babu Trophy in Salem in 2023, he could only bowl the outswinger. But he wanted to bowl both ways. So I started working on his inswing," P. Krishnakumar, Jammu & Kashmir's bowling coach, told TimesofIndia.com.
"He has a great wrist position, which is one of his biggest strengths," he said.

A Wolverhampton Wanderers' fan group has launched a special shirt to mark the club's 150th anniversary season.
Four friends who are part of Old Gold Pack said they spent months bringing their concept to life to mark the anniversary in 2027 and although it had been a lot of work, it was "an absolute joy to get it done".
The majority of the profits from the sale of the shirt are to be donated to Wolverhampton hospice charity Compton Care.
Kieran Newey from the group said to see fans wearing the shirt as the new season kicks off will be "crazy".
"We've always been really big fans of football culture and we'd always talked about designing a football shirt," he said.

It started when the **** ans traded for Jermaine Johnson II. They signed John Franklin-Myers, Jordan Elliott, and Jacob Martin in free agency. Mike Borgonzi also traded for Solomon Thomas. Saleh coached all five of these players in New York and San Francisco.
Of course, they're joining Jeffery Simmons, who inked a historic extension with the **** ans earlier this offseason. Saleh will attempt to develop sophomore Femi Oladejo. The **** ans also drafted Keldric Faulk with a first-round pick. Faulk was another Saleh-approved addition, given his similar length and build to Arik Armstead. The aforementioned eight players will essentially be the **** ans' defensive line rotation this season.
Coach Saleh is expected to field an aggressive, attacking-style defense. That's the focal point of his defense. It should lead to impressive sack numbers for the **** ans' defense. Expectations are high.

The 2026 OSAA high school football season is nearing its begin and programs around the area are starting to work out what their offenses will look like. Wide receivers and tight ends with all-conference, all-state and state championship accolades are returning to their respective programs, and several newcomers are looking to burst onto the scene.

As the MLB Trade Deadline approaches, every fan wants to know what their team will do (or at least to what extent). The Braves are obviously buyers because they are in first place and know that their roster is not quite good enough to win a World Series with its present construction. That being said, what do they need to fix?
Starting pitching is probably the most glaring hole that they faced during their early summer skid. Is it a reason to go get a new starter? Not necessarily. Most of the problems are the same as last year's problems, just to a lesser extent. The Braves have an incredible pitching staff on paper, but guys get hurt and that takes a toll. As far as the Braves' rotation goes, they can turn to some of their stashed away prospects that are pro-ready in Gwinnett, but even that is not as good as their full strength.
In fact, not once this year have they had their big three active all in the rotation at the same time. Sale has been solid (as usual), Smith-Shawver had a nice return to the MLB mound (despite the team taking a loss), and Schwellenbach is still working his way back. Throw in Spencer Strider, and the Braves could improve dramatically above an already impressive rotation that started the first couple of months atop every meaningful category.
Is it worth going after a new shortstop, though, that seems to be a big hole for Atlanta? A month ago, the consensus answer would have been yes. The Braves spent $20 million on Hae-Song Kim only for him to be a major downgrade at the position from previous years. Sometimes plans just do not work out. To replace Kim, though, you have options.
The unsung hero, Mauricio Dubon, can play short, but he certainly is needed in the outfield as well. Jorge Mateo also plays a good defensive shortstop, but his hitting leaves a bit to be desired. In a perfect world, he would stay on as somebody who can pinch run late in a game without sacrificing any defense.

The first week of Tennessee **** ans training camp is in the books, and while it's still early, several players have already begun separating themselves from the pack. Between Robert Saleh's demanding practices, Brian Daboll's new-look offense, and a handful of standout performances, week one provided plenty of reasons for optimism. It also provided a few areas of concern.
Here are the biggest winners and losers after the **** ans' first three practices of training camp.
It's hard to ask for a better start to camp for the young wide receivers. Tate has consistently been one of Cam Ward's favorite targets throughout offseason training, making contested catches and finding the end zone in red-zone drills. He has looked every bit like the impact receiver Tennessee hoped it drafted with the fourth overall pick.
Second-year wideout Elic Ayomanor arguably made the best catches of the day in each of their final two practices of the week. He might have fallen in the depth chart this season, but his impact is destined to be bigger following a promising rookie season.
Jeffery Simmons continues to dominate, while newcomers John Franklin-Myers and Jermaine Johnson have helped generate consistent pressure. Robert Saleh's defensive philosophy is already showing up with an aggressive front that has disrupted the offense throughout the week.

Grail's Galleri blood test aims to detect signals from dozens of cancers before any symptoms appear. That seems like a game changer for the oncology market, but its stock plunged in February after its largest NHS England trial failed to meet its primary endpoint. That trial was considered a crucial stepping stone toward an FDA approval in the U.S. -- which would clear the way for private insurance and Medicare plans to cover its tests.
However, Grail already sells Galleri on a cash-only basis (for $749 to $949) to independent customers, select employers, hospital pilots, and telehealth programs. Its NHS England trial also wasn't a complete failure: Galleri's users in the trial still had fewer Stage IV cancers detected, and it achieved earlier (Stage I and II) detection of the deadliest cancers.
Even without a near-term FDA approval, ******* ysts expect Grail's revenue to grow from $147 million in 2025 to $281 million in 2028. It won't generate a profit anytime soon, and its stock isn't cheap at 17 times this year's sales, but an FDA approval could help it crush those estimates. Therefore, I think it's smarter to buy and hold Grail at under $70 than to hastily sell it.
