Viola Davis has been ranked the most fabulous Gen X actress in Hollywood, but the acclaimed performer says there was once "no evidence of greatness" in her life. The 61-year-old landed the No. 1 position on AARP's Movies for Grownups list of the 25 Most Fabulous Gen X Actresses.
Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz and Drew Barrymore completed the top five, while other major names such as Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Cate Blanchett and Salma Hayek also earned spots. For Davis, the honor reflects a journey that began in poverty and eventually led her to some of the most celebrated roles of her generation.

Davis spoke candidly to AARP's Movies for Grownups about growing up as one of six children in condemned apartments. The actress has previously discussed searching through garbage cans for food and living in rat-infested homes.
"I grew up in abject poverty," she told the publication. "There was no evidence of greatness in my life. So I had to have magic … I had to dare to ask the big, big question: 'What if, Viola? What if there's something out there for you?'"

Dave Franco spent years being mistaken for early villain characters he played, but he wants the public to know that he's not an "asshole."
The Idiots star appeared on the August 27 episode of podcast Happy Sad Confused and told host Josh Horowitz that being cast as unpleasant characters made people think he was just as offensive in real life.
"Because I'm not on social media, I realized like, 'Oh, people can't see the real me as often as other people kind of–however they put themselves out there on social media,'" said the actor. "And so they're really just looking at my work and they're kind of like putting, you know, whatever opinion on me that they want based on the roles I play."
COMPLEX SHOP: Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what's next. Buy. Collect. Obsess.
Franco admitted that he played "a lot of a**hole and douchebags early on," which resulted in public consequences. "And so everyone was like, "Yeah, f**k that guy. He must be like that,'" he said.

Warning: This story contains spoilers for The Whisper Man
Horror keeps finding Owen Teague.
The 27-year-old actor has become one of the genre's most recognizable young faces, starring in three Stephen King adaptations, including the It franchise. Now, he's the terrifying figure hiding in Netflix's buzzy new crime thriller, The Whisper Man.
"I am attracted to things that are a little bit twisted. I think it's my sense of humor," Teague tells Yahoo, then laughing: "It's also my face."
The irony here is that Teague doesn't watch many horror movies himself.

You can go home again, and Rihanna did go home again this month to celebrate the annual Crop Over Festival in her native Barbados. And while she was there, she took her three children with longtime partner A$AP Rocky — RZA, 4, Riot, 3 and Rocki, 10 months — to visit the road named in her honor.
"one minute I feel like that kid from Westbury…the next minute I'm bringing my own kids back to 'Rihanna Drive,'" the singer wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday (Aug. 11) featuring a rare glimpse at the faces of the couple's little ones. In the snap, oldest brother RZA is playing it cool in blue sunglasses and a burgundy Spider-Man T-shirt and white shorts, while Riot holds her mom's hand, rocking jean shorts and a striped shirt. Meanwhile, Rocki is secure in RihRih's arms, grabbing a fistful of her mom's hair while wearing a bright red shorts and shirt set.

Wayne Barrow granted summary judgment on two claims in a court case against Faith Evans over control of The Notorious B.I.G.'s intellectual property
Barrow was named sole trustee by the rapper's mother Voletta Wallace before her death, replacing Evans' son C.J.
Evans allegedly blocked Barrow's rights to the trust, but the court ruled in his favor to manage the legacy
The Notorious B.I.G.'s former manager Wayne Barrow has secured a win in court over the rapper's widow Faith Evans, who he claims has tried to block him from his rightful share of the late star's trust.
A Delaware judge sided with Barrow in a judgment published on Aug. 7 that centers on management of the rapper's intellectual property and trustee appointments made by his mother Voletta Wallace before her death in 2025.

There are movies that we love, and then there are movies that become embedded in the cultural zeitgeist and hit us right in the heart. Julie Andrews is breathing rare air as an actor who has more than one such film to her credit. "The Sound of Music" and "Mary Poppins," for examples, have dazzled generations of audiences. But it wasn't only Andrews' movies that delivered that fairy tale dreaminess. She married set and costume designer Tony Walton in May 1959 in beautiful Surrey, England, and get this: Walton designed her wedding dress. While most brides would hesitate to trust their husbands-to-be with the hors d'oeuvres, Andrews charged Walton with the pièce de résistance. He tackled the task beautifully, because his bride looked stunning in her sleeved ballgown, embroidered with floral appliqués — and leave it to Andrews to showcase how to style a pixie cut for every occasion.

The two met as theater kids in 1948, became pen pals, and got engaged 11 years later. "We looked at each other and smiled, and I honestly don't know how it came about, but one of us whispered to the other, 'We should get married soon,'" Andrews wrote in her memoir "Home," as reported by Tatler. And when Disney snagged Andrews for "Mary Poppins," Walton came with to design the costumes. The couple would have one daughter, Emma, in 1962. Thanks in large part to Walton's gorgeous design, his and Andrews' wedding snaps are some of those throwback pics from Old Hollywood star weddings that are beyond captivating.

It just keeps getting worse for Sid Wilson.
Days after he was reportedly kicked out of his band, Slipknot after 30 years, his ex-fiancée, Kelly Osbourne, shared an angry message directed at him on Instagram.
Taking to her Stories, Kelly — who shares her three-year-old son, Sidney, with her ex — wrote a series of posts aimed at the DJ and keyboard player.

She began: "Strange how the loudest defense of the guilty is rarely innocence. It's distraction. When the mask slips, they don't face the mirror, they throw it at someone else. I also heard that when you break a mirror you get 7 years bad luck. Or is that just karma? This is why I always take accountability! As they say some are sick then [sic] others."
