WASHINGTON (AP) — Jorbit Vivas hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning to lift Washington to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels that snapped the Nationals' seven-game losing streak Friday night.
The Angels led 2-1 before pinch-hitter Andrew Pinckney tied it with a sacrifice fly off Samy Natera Jr. (1-2) in the eighth. Then Vivas hit a flyball that dropped into the corner in right field to make it 4-2.
Clayton Beeter (6-5) won in relief, and Erik Tolman worked the ninth for his second save. Tolman allowed an RBI double by Christian Moore that very nearly cleared the wall in right-center for a tying homer, but it stayed in the park and the left-hander retired pinch-hitter Kyren Paris on a flyball to end it.
Mike Trout homered for the first time in over a month for Los Angeles.
Trout hadn't gone deep since Aug. 10 against Texas, but after 27 consecutive homerless games, he connected off Cade Cavalli in the first inning to put the Angels up 1-0.

Stivers will have six games on the remainder of its 2026 football schedule.
The Tigers new schedule was finalized Thursday, Sept. 11 by Dayton Public Schools.
Stivers will restart its season against Thurgood Marshall on Sept. 17. Stivers kept road games against Shroder, Norwood and Vanlue from its original slate, and also received a commitment from St. Bernard-Elmwood Place. The Tigers also rescheduled a game against Dunbar at Welcome Stadium.
DPS Superintendent Dr. David Lawrence announced Sept. 2 Stivers would attempt to finish the season one day after the district said its season would be canceled. The district originally canceled the season due to what the district described as not being able to continue "safely and responsibly" stemming from injuries and low player participation numbers. DPS officials reversed its decision after holding a meeting with parents and staff the following day.
Stivers began the 2026 season with a game on Aug. 21 against Gamble Montessori which it lost 50-6. The originally scheduled game against Dunbar the next week was canceled and a few days after the entire season was canceled which caused several teams originally on the Stivers schedule to find new games.

Sebastian Vettel drove Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F2002 at Monza before the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, but the emotional weight of such a thing became much larger than the driving itself. Following his performance of donuts near the second Variante, Vettel admitted that the moment had made him feel a great deal of longing for his old friend.
Ferrari built the weekend around Schumacher's legacy. It had been 30 years since he joined Ferrari in 1996 with a special Monza livery, racewear details inspired by the seven-time champion, and seven stars representing his ****** les. The showcase featured several of Schumacher's iconic cars, including the 1996 F310, the 2002 F2002, and the 2006 248 F1.
The F2002 was not merely an old Ferrari brought out for a ceremonial lap. Ferrari's 2002 campaign produced 15 victories, 10 pole positions, and 27 podium finishes, while Schumacher secured that year's championship with 144 points. The four-time world champion, who concluded his career with a total of 53 wins, also shared the track with Schumacher during his return to Mercedes from 2010 to 2012. Schumacher had been an early hero, then later a friend who encouraged Vettel's career.

It's just one game.
Let's keep this in mind as we start to examine the Texas Tech football team's 33-10 win over Abilene Christian. By all accounts, the game was relatively boring, a workmanlike victory for the Red Raiders to knock the cobwebs off and start anew.
Each season is a snowflake, no two ever exactly alike. However, when some problems trickle over from one season to the next, with entirely new personnel between the individual units, it's fair to wonder what the deal is.
Texas Tech operated functionally on offense, putting together back-to-back methodical drives to open the game. Rushing touchdowns by Quinten Joyner (on his first official touch as a Red Raider) and J'Koby Williams made it seem destined for another tail-whooping of the Wildcats.
While the outcome was never in question, there were no offensive fireworks until Malcolm Simmons got by an ACU defender late in the fourth for a score. Offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich called a conservative game, mixing the run with the pass and moving the ball down the field, usually without much resistance from the ACU defense. It was the small plays that wound up garnering Tech 471 yards of total offense. Only a few deep throw attempts from Will Hammond, who was more than happy to check it down to Williams as often as possible with nothing open.

Aberdeen winger Kenan Bilalovic has joined Slovakian top division side MSK Zilina on a season-long loan.
The 21-year-old Swede has struggled to establish himself at the Dons since arriving at Pittodrie from IFK Värnamo in his homeland on a five-year deal last summer.
He has made 19 appearances for the first team and scored three goals.
On his loan to MSK Zilina, head coach Stepehn Robinson told the Aberdeen club website "Kenan is a talented young player but, at this stage of his development, playing consistently at senior level is really important.
"His exposure to game time here is going to be limited this season and, therefore, this loan presents an excellent opportunity for him to gain regular minutes in a demanding environment.

As soon as Wynter Smith hustles back onto the Brandeis sideline, he takes a moment to acknowledge his teammates.
"He's the one scoring all the touchdowns, getting all the yards but when we get on the sideline, every single time we get there, he's coming up to the receivers saying, 'Good job, way to block,'" Brandeis senior wide receiver Grayson Hallmark said.
The quarterback also makes sure his offensive line is happy. Hallmark says Smith will even buy his linemen food at lunch.
"He doesn't have a big ego or anything like that," Hallmark said. "He stays humble."
Other players have taken notice of how the third-year starter's leadership extends beyond the varsity squad.

Unseeded Bu Yunchaokete made history at the 2026 US Open on Wednesday. He became the first "lucky loser" to beat a top-15 seed at a tennis major in the Open Era, which began in 1968.
The term "lucky loser" represents the player who lost the final qualifying match for the major but still gets added to the field because players in the draw had to withdraw.
Yunchaokete replaced Thanasi Kokkinakis in the tournament and found out only on Tuesday that he would be playing the 12-seeded Rafal Jodar on Wednesday. Kokkinakis withdrew due to an ankle sprain and calf injury suffered at the Cincinnati Masters leading up to the US Open.
Jodar is ranked as the No. 13 men's tennis player in the world entering the tournament, but was not able to build any momentum on Wednesday. Yunchaokete didn't just pull off the upset; he dominated.
The 24-year-old allowed Jodar to win only four games in the match, advancing in straight sets 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.

"It goes without saying college athletics continues to evolve," Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt told Sports Business Journal. Campbell allowed three hits and struck out five. Rorik Maltrud improved to 6-1 on the season, throwing 5.1 innings. Maltrud allowed three runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out two batters. Franco Aleman closed the game, finishing the last two outs of the ninth inning. Aleman allowed a hit and struck out one.
Columbus scored six runs on eight hits. In the first inning, they put up five runs. Cooper Ingle drew a lead off walk. Daniel Schneemann reached on a single and Kahlil Watson drew a walk to load the bases. Kyle Manzardo doubled on a liner to left, scoring Ingle and Schneemann. With runners on second and third, who else but Ralphy Velazquez. Ralphy launched a three run home run 402 feet to right center.
In the top of the eighth, Alfonsin Rosario drew a walk and scored on Cooper Ingle's one-out single to right for the final out.

The UCLA Bruins and the USC Trojans play in the same city, they play in the same conference but the comparisons just about end there for the two Big Ten schools as they enter the 2026 season.
The pressure is on for USC, landing several terrific recruiting classes, but those recruiting classes have yet to lead to too much success under head coach Lincoln Riley. The time is now for the Trojans but they're tasked with a challenging Big Ten schedule, making their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance far from a sure thing.
Things are quite the opposite in Westwood. The Bruins are fresh off of being a national laughingstock for their 3-9 season which featured losses to UNLV and New Mexico. Enter in new head coach Bob Chesney and suddenly spirits are quite high for UCLA.

SEQUOYAH — Sequoyah will find out quickly how much progress it has made.
The Eagles renew their rivalry with Inola on Aug. 28, providing an immediate measuring stick against a Longhorns program coming off a 9-3 season.
Inola graduated 18 seniors, but Sequoyah coach Rob Gilbreath still expects a difficult matchup and wants to see Sequoyah compete better than it did in last year's meeting, a 46-6 loss.
"They kind of put it on us last year, so hopefully we can compete with them this year," Gilbreath said. "They graduated heavily, but they still have that really good running back [Jayce Kent]. He was a freshman last year, and he was a game-changer. So we'll have to be able to stop him and be able to move the ball on them and have less mistakes than they do."
Cleveland presents another significant early challenge. After going through a rebuilding period of its own, Gilbreath expects the Tigers to bring a talented roster to Sequoyah.

Barcelona have completed the signing of Dominik Livakovic, but the Croatian goalkeeper's future for the coming season remains unresolved as the club's preferred loan arrangement has hit an unexpected obstacle.
The 31-year-old has joined Barcelona from Fenerbahce in a deal worth €2 million plus a possible €500,000 in variables.
After arriving in Barcelona on Tuesday, Livakovic is scheduled to undergo his medical examination on Wednesday before putting pen to paper on a contract running until 2030.
The signing itself is not the issue. The question Barcelona must now answer is where their new goalkeeper will spend the season.
According to SPORT, Barcelona initially planned to send Livakovic out on a one-year loan before integrating him into the first-team setup in 2027, when Wojciech Szczesny's spell at the club comes to an end.

On Friday, the day he was scheduled to fly to Knoxville, Tennessee to begin camp as a late addition to the Volunteers, Monty Hunt awoke in his San Diego home to a text.
A Tennessee staff member informed him that he was, as of that morning, no longer eligible.
How could he be eligible one day and not eligible another?
Upon opening social media, he got his answer: A federal appeals court ruled in favor of the NCAA by freezing a Colorado court's sweeping decision to grant all of the 2022 high school class members an additional fifth year of eligibility.
The appeals decision — to stay the lower court's order until the completion of a full appeals process — means that Hunt's lifelong dream, at least for now, is dashed. And so too is the $50,000 in promised NIL compensation and scholarship costs.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Trinity Byars had two goals and two ****** ists, and the San Diego Wave downed the visiting Utah Royals 4-2 in the National Women's Soccer League on Friday night.
The Wave (11-7-3) had won just one of their last six matches. The victory pulled them into a tie on points with the Royals for third in the league standings, behind Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit.
Byars scored her first in the fourth minute, taking a long pass from Melanie Barcenas and striking the ball from distance into the opposite corner.
Utah's Mina Tanaka tied it in the 29th minute with a curling shot from the top of the box. Before halftime, Barcenas put the Wave back in front with a goal off an ****** ist from Byars.
Tanaka scored her second goal, and eighth of the season, just moments into the second half to tie it again for the Royals (11-7-3). But Byars added her second goal in the 62nd minute to give the Wave back the lead. Byars also has eight goals this season.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) - In an hour and a half full of missed chances, Alex Beck found the needle in the haystack. The sophomore got her head on the end of a left-footed Reagan Fitzgerald cross and flicked it to the back post in the 88th minute, giving ETSU its first goal and win of 2026 in a 1-0 victory over West Georgia in the home opener at Summers-Taylor Stadium on Thursday.
Beck's goal, the second of her college career, came on the 14th and final shot of the night for the Buccaneers and was the only one to solve the Wolves' active young goalkeeper, Emily Sanabria. Fitzgerald's ****** ist was the eighth of her career, making her the ninth player in ETSU history to reach 40 or more career points.
The Bucs outshot West Georgia 14-8, putting seven shots on goal to the Wolves' two. The performance earned Addison Yelton her ninth career shutout, tying her with Megan Masch for the fifth-most in program history. The victory also extends ETSU's home unbeaten streak to 11 games, holding a 7-0-4 record in that span.
With the win under their belt, ETSU now moves to 1-1-0 on the season while West Georgia falls to 0-2-1. The Bucs will embark on a three-game road swing next, starting with a matchup at UNC Asheville on Sunday at 2:00 PM.

The Miami Dolphins had another former player announce their retirement recently, as running back Myles Gaskin called it a career after seven seasons in the NFL, including four with the Dolphins.
"Football . . . there will never be enough words to explain how I feel about you, so I won't even try," Gaskin wrote on social media. "What I will do is give all the game you gave me to the next generation of young players who dare to be great. Thank you. It's been real."
The 29-year-old played at Washington from 2015-18, earning All-Pac-12 honors thrice before the Dolphins took him in the seventh round (No. 234 overall) of the 2019 NFL draft. In four years with Miami, he rushed for 1,355 yards and seven touchdowns on 3.8 yards per attempt while catching 101 passes for an additional 701 yards and six scores.
After Miami released him in 2023, he had stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks. In all of those stints, he only rushed for an addition five total yards and caught one pass for 11 yards.

The New York Giants are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris, per Mike Garafolo. Harris visited with the Giants yesterday and will now be joining the team. The terms of the deal are yet to be known.
Harris was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and rushed for 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons in Pittsburgh, never missing a game. He signed with the Los Angeles Chargers ahead of the 2025 season after the Steelers declined to pick up his fifth-year option before the 2024 campaign.
Unfortunately for Harris, his stint with the Chargers would be short-lived. He appeared in just three games before tearing his Achilles, ending his season. He now joins his former rival, John Harbaugh, who took over as head coach of the Giants after being fired by the Baltimore Ravens.

Dominant from the get-go, the Dodgers cruised through an 11-5 win over the Rockies. And fair or not, too many times this season, particularly as of late, it has felt as though this team didn't live up to the expectations of dominating a starting pitcher in a matchup they should handle. While the end product has been there, the underlying numbers suggest a complete mismatch for Tomoyuki Sugano against the Dodgers' offense, and that's precisely what transpired on the field.
The three straight groundouts to open the first were just the Dodgers' bats warming up before putting up seven runs past Sugano with long ***** from Max Muncy and Shohei Ohtani—the former obliterating a 461-foot home run into the second deck in right field, the latter taking Sugano deep in the big leagues for the fourth time in still a rather small sample size. Mookie Betts and Andy Pages each drove in one in the first three innings before Muncy turned the Dodgers' lead into a commanding one with a three-run shot in the third.
By the time Sugano left the mound, the Dodgers held a 7-1 lead and still had four innings to work with. Aiming to increase his tally of just one multi-homer game this season, which, interestingly enough, came in a Dodgers loss, Ohtani brought the power once again in the sixth. The Dodgers designated hitter got a middle-middle sweeper of his dreams and crushed it for a 452-foot home run, certainly not settling for any cheapies, as he would end the game with a team-high four hits.
It wouldn't have felt right for the Dodgers to do all of this slugging as a team and not have Freddie Freeman in on the action. The veteran first baseman, who came into this game with a .240 SLG in August, without an extra-base hit since the end of July, finally broke through with a classic double down the opposite field line in the sixth—one of a couple of two-baggers he'd hit in this lopsided win.
Traditionally in Coors, it's hard to feel safe, but the same level of dominance displayed offensively could also be seen on the mound. Battling himself more than the Rockies hitters, it seemed, Blake Snell only got into trouble for a brief moment when the Rockies stopped going outside the zone in the third.

American tennis star Jessica Pegula has dreamed about what it would be like to win the first Grand Slam of her career. She said achieving that milestone at the U.S. Open, her favorite of the four slams, would be even sweeter.
"My goal is to win the tournament," Pegula told USA TODAY Sports ahead of the 2026 U.S. Open. "It is my favorite place to play just purely because I am an American and I'm from New York State, and I do think people get behind me and encourage me a lot more than maybe even some other Americans."
Pegula has experienced both triumph and heartbreak at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York. She advanced to the first and only Grand Slam final of her career at the 2024 U.S. Open, but ultimately lost to Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. "I do feel like it adds a little bit more pressure," Pegula added.
Pegula spoke to USA TODAY Sports ahead of the fourth and final major of the year through her partnership with Vital Proteins, the official collagen partner of the U.S. Open.
Pegula, 32, is considered a late-bloomer in the tennis world. She made her professional debut in 2009, but a string of serious injuries delayed her ascension. Pegula broke through and won her first WTA ***** le at age 25 in 2019. She cracked the Top 50 for the first time in 2021, made it into the Top 20 by January 2022 and reached the Top 10 five months later at age 28.

In a recent report, talkSPORT offered an update on the future of Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong. It has been revealed that the Blues are willing to cash in on the English full-back amid interest from Coventry City this summer.
Acheampong struggled to make himself a regular starter for the West London club but managed to put in a few solid performances for them in the Premier League. The 20-year-old scored two goals in 30 matches for Chelsea last season across all fronts.

Notably, Llopis has worked with several generations of Real Madrid players and managers, becoming a familiar and highly respected figure behind the scenes.
His exit, however, is not believed to be linked to dissatisfaction with his work.
Mourinho wants to build his own technical team and has chosen to bring in Nuno Santos as his goalkeeping specialist.

Browns coach Todd Monken said it was "cool" and "awesome" to watch Deshaun Watson play on Saturday. It was Watson's first game of any kind since Oct. 20, 2024.
The quarterback, who is competing with Shedeur Sanders for the starting job, was 11-of-15 for 126 yards and lost a fumble in the first half. The Browns scored 10 points while Watson was in the game.
He may have won the starting job.
"It goes back to what Todd and the organization and coaching staff want," Watson said. "Every opportunity I get, I want to continue to improve and take one step forward. Every day will be a challenge, but that's the whole thing about the NFL. It's a business, and every day is a challenge."
Watson has played only 19 games since the Browns acquired him in a 2022 offseason trade with the Texans. He served an 11-game suspension in 2022, underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in 2023 and twice tore his Achilles, which kept him out 10 games in 2024 and all of 2025.

Clark and Bueckers have been compared since their college careers, and their latest meeting offered another reminder of why both players have become foundational pieces for their franchises. Neither guard needed much room to create offense. Clark connected on deep jumpers and generated opportunities off the dribble, while Bueckers repeatedly found openings against Indiana's defense.

In a disappointing season, the young duo of Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing has been a bright spot for this team. Journeyman Robert Stock will be on the mound tonight.
