Texas senator Ted Cruz, whose attendance at big sporting events hasn't always gone well for the Lone Star State's teams, appeared on College GameDay on Saturday ahead of the Longhorns' home clash with Ohio State.
While we're not sure the reason why, the crowd booed Cruz and heckled him throughout the nearly 10-minute segment with Rece Davis. College GameDay crowds are usually bipartisan and sports-focused, so perhaps the jeering was purely because of Cruz's spotty track record with his teams winning when he attends the games.
We're not sure what exactly caused this, but it's certainly notable whenever a political figure of any party gets such a negative reaction from a crowd like this.
ESPN had Ted Cruz on 'College GameDay' in a conversation with Rece Davis for nearly 10 minutes.

Cruz was heavily booed by the crowd -- and heard "Ted, you suck!" chants -- in Austin. pic.twitter.com/npQesiYMsG
Maybe the Longhorns will still prevail with Cruz presumably in attendance for Saturday night's game, pushing against the fears of the "Ted Cruz curse" that lingers when he's in the stands.

Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season is here, and that means you're planning your Sunday to watch either your favorite team or whoever's on TV.
So which games will you be getting in your area? Great question, and luckily we have answers thanks to the good folks at 506 Sports who are kind enough to put out the NFL TV coverage map every week showing which region will get certain games on Fox and CBS, both in the early slots and the late ones. The two networks trade off who gets the game of the week that everyone sees.
Here's a guide to the TV coverage this week:

ALLEN PARK — Twenty-five years have passed, and Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell still vividly recalls the feelings of being loved yet helpless and confused.
At that time, he was the starting tight end for the New York Giants when the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks occurred. Like the rest of the nation, Campbell struggled to cope with the aftermath, experiencing a profound sense of grief. However, in just a few days, Campbell felt as though he had witnessed both the worst and the best of humanity.
"It's something you never forget. In the middle of a tragedy — especially in New York, where they're in a hurry. That happened, and everybody pitched in to help. They just wanted to help and do whatever it takes," Campbell said. "Anybody who was up there at that time, even wanting to go help, to get into the city after that, that took a lot just to get up there. It definitely pulled our country together, and it was one of those things you just don't ever forget. There was a lot of loss. Those things you don't forget, and I can't believe it's been 25 years."
More: 25th anniversary of 9/11 attacks: Victims honored across memorials at Pentagon, NYC: Updates
Days after the attacks, Campbell — along with many of his teammates — visited Ground Zero and was accompanied by the New York Jets.

After five rounds of high-octane tennis, we have an all-American showdown in the semifinals, as the No. 1 American men's player Ben Shelton takes on a three-time US Open semifinalist in Frances Tiafoe.
The excitement for this match in New York is so high that, despite playing their quarterfinal matches a day earlier than the other half of the draw, the tournament has scheduled their match for the primetime night session slot, with a fully packed crowd expected for a match that, before even a ball is hit, has already secured an American player in the final this year.
And we here at LWOT will be bringing you an in-depth preview of what to expect in one of the biggest matches for American men's tennis this decade.
Despite making it this far in the tournament, it has been far from an easy road to the semifinals for both players. Frances Tiafoe has had to battle through two five-set matches, the second of which came in the quarterfinals against Alex Michelsen, in which Tiafoe had to come back from two sets to love. But in between all this, the American has played some inspired tennis again this tournament, the highlight of which was the efficient straight-sets win over the 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.

Number-one ranked Ohio State is traveling to Austin to take on the fourth-ranked Longhorns this weekend in what has become the most-anticipated college football game of the season so far.
According to ticketdata.com, the cheapest tickets available for the game are $463 - nearly three times higher than any other college football game this week. However, not only are the tickets hot, but the weather will be too. Game day temperatures in Austin will rise to dangerous levels, with heat index values rising to nearly 110 degrees.
Saturday's temperatures will be similar to last week's game against Texas State, during which Austin-Travis County EMS transported 13 fans from DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium to surrounding local hospitals due to heat-related illnesses.
Temperatures in Austin are expected to be in the mid-90s at noon Saturday before rising to 100-102 degrees by 3 to 4 p.m. Due to elevated humidity levels, the heat index, or "feel-like" temperature, is likely to reach as high as 108 degrees. There will be a slight breeze, as southeast winds are expected at around 10 mph.
Shown are the expected heat index values across Texas at 4 p.m. Saturday. Austin will likely be experiencing temps that feel like 108 degrees. (WeatherBell)

The most "enemy territory" place in the NFL for the Chicago Bears is Lambeau Field in Wisconsin, home of the Green Bay Packers. This weekend, however, watching football there is a different story.
Lambeau Field will be the host of a Week 1 game between the Wisconsin Badgers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It's a mediocre Wisconsin team going up against a Notre Dame powerhouse that could win it all this year.
A match like this is worth scouting from an NFL draft perspective because it is a "big game" environment with pressure under the bright lights. Wisconsin doesn't have any players (yet) who have been identified as NFL must-haves, but these Notre Dame players are worth keeping a scout's eye on:

Small-town club Elversberg continued a dream start to its first-ever Bundesliga season with another upset win, beating Borussia Moenchengladbach 4-3 with a stoppage-time winner on Saturday.
In Spain, Athletic Bilbao struck three times in the second half to beat Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid 3-0, while Erling Haaland led Manchester City to another victory in the Premier League.
From a town of just 13,000 people, Elversberg stunned another former champion after its win over Bayer Leverkusen last week.
This time, Elversberg did it without coach Vincent Wagner, who was sent off at halftime, only for Maurice Krattenmacher to score the dramatic late winner.
Wagner will miss hosting champion Bayern Munich next week.

WINNSBORO — The Sterlington Panthers took the first step in making their own history.
After winning back-to-back Division III nonselect championships, Sterlington's ultimate goal is going for a three-peat — something it has never done before. The Panthers, now in D-II nonselect, traveled to Franklin Parish, a top-10 team from last season that fell by one score in the second round to Lutcher.
The Patriots have two Power 4-caliber backs in senior and LSU commit Trey Martin and junior DJ Neal. But Sterlington still took care of business with a 42-30 victory against Franklin Parish on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Patriot Stadium.
LHSAA football: Here's the full Week 1 Monroe-area schedule
Martin did dominate for the Patriots with a four-touchdown performance, and Franklin Parish had momentum on its side with a chance to win the game in regulation, but a pick-six by junior Keenen Green sealed Sterlington's victory.

For the launch of the 2026/27 kits, Juventus and adidas have chosen to transform teasers, speculation and unofficial images into a fully-fledged narrative, turning the traditional logic of a reveal on its head.
This has given rise to a campaign structured as a collective investigation. The product is not simply unveiled, but gradually uncovered through clues, content and links designed to spark fans' curiosity and fuel online conversation.
Leaks, details appearing online and unexpected content thus become the pieces of a mystery to be solved. Episode by episode, the campaign engages fans, influencers and key figures from the Club in a story that blends sport, entertainment and digital language.
Evidence, documents, photographs, notes and links punctuate the journey, inviting the community to follow the trail, interpret the clues and play an active part in the investigation. Leading the investigation are Luciano Spalletti and Gianluca Gazzoli, the protagonists of a narrative that blends mystery, humour and entertainment. Through their eyes, fans are drawn into an ongoing case, following leads and piecing together the truth behind the leaks.
First, the American wrestler Je'Von Evans appeared in the WWE Raw ring in Detroit wearing the Away Kit. Next came Kenan Yildiz, who teased the release of the Third Kit on his social media channels – a kit that had already been spotted a few days earlier in Hong Kong and worn by some local content creators during the Bianconeri Stripes Party organised by adidas on 4 August. The final act then took place in Perth, at the Bianconeri's headquarters 'Casa Juventus', involving influencer Ben Black and Alessandro Del Piero, who reprimanded the British content creator for spoiling the Third Kit on his social media channels.

Mikel Arteta has revealed that he wants the Premier League to allow teams to name more players in their matchday squads, admitting that he has been begging for the change to be made.
At present, teams can name only 20 players in a matchday squad, meaning there are nine substitutes available in addition to the starting XI. Although this number can appear sufficient because clubs are permitted to make five substitutions, Arteta believes the demands placed on players require greater squad flexibility.
Teams can have up to 30 players, and allowing more of them to be named on the bench would give managers additional options during matches. It could also help them respond to how games develop while ensuring they have more players available to make an impact.
However, the Premier League has refused to expand matchday squads and expects clubs to plan around the 20 players they are currently permitted to name for matches.
Arteta has been one of the voices among managers calling for a change to the rules and has once again spoken about the subject. The ***** nal boss revealed that he has spent considerable time asking the Premier League to expand the number of players that can be included.

So why did the Seahawks sign a cornerback who is facing eight felony charges and possible life in prison, knowing he not only couldn't play for them but can't even practice?
"There's a long-term play," said John Schneider, the man who signed Terrion Arnold Saturday.
That's one reason.
The other: A Seahawks legend told him.
On NFL roster cut day Sunday, exactly as the league had told Schneider and coach Mike Macdonald he would, Arnold went on the NFL commissioner's exempt list. Commissioner Roger Goodell alone will decide when Arnold can practice and play for the Seahawks.

NEW YORK - Shut down by rookie lefty starter Jake Bennett and three Red Sox's relievers in a 6-0 opening Boston win Saturday, the Yankees must - in manager Aaron Boone's words - "turn the page in a hurry.''
In the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader, the Yankees have activated veteran lefty Max Fried (elbow bone bruise) off the injured list.
Fried hasn't pitched an MLB game since Aug. 13, and he's likely limited to about 65 pitches against the Red Sox, who will open with Alec Gamboa - one of five lefties in the Boston bullpen.
To make room for Fried on the active roster, the Yanks designated righty reliever Justin Topa for ******* ignment. Topa tossed a scoreless relief inning in Saturday's opener.
Also on Saturday, the Yankees signed lefty-hitting outfielder Jarred Kelenic and ******* igned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Ravichandran Ashwin believes Rishabh Pant needs to show greater awareness of match situations and take more responsibility with the bat, despite the wicketkeeper-batter putting together a respectable series against Sri Lanka.

Pant finished the two-Test series with 168 runs and two half-centuries. However, Ashwin feels the numbers do not tell the complete story and wants the India batter to exercise more judgement when deciding how to attack.

Pant's aggressive approach has come under scrutiny over the past few months, with questions being raised about whether he sometimes takes unnecessary risks and fails to put enough value on his wicket.

The former India spinner pointed to Pant's dismissal against South Africa in Guwahati last year as an example. While captaining India in the absence of Shubman Gill, Pant charged down the track against Marco Jansen and edged the delivery to the wicketkeeper.

Pant is currently a Test-only player for India after falling out of favour in the white-ball formats. Ashwin believes his decision-making in Test cricket remains an area that needs attention.

"My expectation from Rishabh Pant hasn't been fulfilled till now. I am very sorry. Sonal Dinusha had his strike rate up there. But the difference is high-risk options. When you have the game in your hand, these are all statements: 'That's how Rishabh plays.' It is about what your team needs," Ashwin said on 'Ash Ki Baat'.
During the discussion, the host argued that Pant's unique ability and his history of producing match-winning performances meant he should be given some freedom to play his natural game.

Ashwin, however, insisted that even an exceptional player cannot be exempt from the demands of the situation.

"Rishabh played a class knock in Sydney and Brisbane, but you couldn't have won that match without Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur. It takes 11 cricketers to build a Test and win it in the last session of the game, but it takes only 1 moment of foolishness to lose a Test," said Ashwin.

The former off-spinner clarified that his criticism was not directed at Pant's attacking style itself. Instead, he wants the batter to recognise when the situation demands a different approach.

"I am just talking about the times when these chances are being taken when the game is on the line. I love Rishabh the player. It is about playing situations in this format. Sehwag and Gilchrist played high brand of cricket, but these two don't get edged out while dancing down to Marco Jansen when your team is trailing by 500 runs. Don't place these marketing lines in front of me ever again," he added.
Ashwin also called for more straightforward feedback for Pant, arguing that his status as a special talent should not shield him from criticism.

The former India spinner pointed out that Pant has now played 50 Tests and believes his experience means he should be expected to take greater responsibility.

"Don't give one player special treatment. Thi

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The Raiders' offensive line is far from proven, no wide receiver has emerged as a true No. 1 and a rookie could be the starting running back entering the season.
Probably not the ideal situation to start a first-year quarterback, but players drafted first overall — as Fernando Mendoza was — usually join a team with a lot more questions than answers.
And there are plenty with Las Vegas.
Could that be a factor for when Raiders coaches decide to start Mendoza? He likely will be the backup to Kirk Cousins when the season opens Sept. 13 against Miami.
"They've all got to get ready," coach Klint Kubiak said. "Whoever is playing quarterback for us, it's a team thing. It's not the QB playing well and everyone else is not or the other way around."

The Illinois basketball program will get another opportunity to host one of its 2027 commits in Champaign this fall.
According to 247Sports' Dushawn London, Illinois commit Quinton Kitt will take an official visit to Illinois on Oct. 22.
Kitt has been committed to Illinois since November, when the East Peoria native chose the Illini over a number of high-major offers, including Iowa, Michigan and Northwestern. He became the first member of Illinois' 2027 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-6 forward has continued to rise up the national recruiting rankings since his commitment. 247Sports Composite currently has Kitt rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 74 player nationally.
Kitt visited Illinois last August. At the time, Kitt told TCR that he was looking for a program that could develop him, help him reach the next level and compete for March Madness appearances.

BOSTON (AP) — Eli White slid headfirst into the plate with the winning run to complete a three-run ninth-inning rally, a play that was upheld after a review, and the Boston Red Sox got to twice celebrate their 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night.
Wilyer Abreu hit a hard grounder that first baseman Bryce Eldridge made a diving stop on, then threw home for an attempted force, but White was ruled safe by umpire James Hoye, setting off a celebration. The Giants challenged the call on the field and the call stood after a video review, prompting a second celebration.
Willy Adames hit a solo homer over the Green Monster for the Giants, who lost for the 10th time in 13 games.
Dylan Smith had escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth before Boston rallied against Sam Hentges (1-6), tying it on Nick Sogard's RBI double down the left-field line after pinch-hitter White had a run-scoring single.
Wyatt Olds (1-0) earned the win.

The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals handed the NCAA a temporary victory on Friday, issuing a stay of a preliminary injunction that granted athletes from the high school class of 2022 an extra year of eligibility.
The 2-1 decision by the Tenth Circuit came after the NCAA appealed a Colorado federal judge's temporary injunction allowing the 2022 athletes to play under the same rules as players currently in college. In June, the NCAA changed its rules to allow athletes to play five seasons within a five-year eligibility window, provided age requirements are met, but the rule was not applied retroactively.
The NCAA informed schools on Friday that the rules that applied before the Colorado decision were in effect.
The Colorado judge granted the injunction on July 31 in the federal class-action lawsuit filed by Brock Wisne, a Northern Colorado basketball player who said the NCAA violated antitrust law by barring him from playing a fifth season.
"The Tenth Circuit's decision to stay the preliminary injunction issued by a Colorado federal district court judge in Wisne permits Division I to return to the status quo before the district court intervened," an NCAA statement said. "Effective immediately, the age-based eligibility rules will be implemented as the Division I membership intended.

So the most anticipated sports season in Bloomington is about to begin — football.
I am still amazed that not only is that a sentence that got typed, it is a true sentence as well. The Indiana Hoosiers are the NCAA national champions and that can not be taken away from them. It wasn't an anomaly, it wasn't a fluke and they have to be respected for it.
I am not an IU fan (my Boiler fandom now follows me like the black cloud that followed Pigpen from Peanuts) — and all the skullduggery leads to the very same place – IU just completed the greatest season in college football history.
The rest of college sports now has to live with IU football at the top of the heap and the rest of us who call West Lafayette our safe ****** e now have to endure the fact that the last two undefeated National Champions in football and basketball reside about 300 yards from each other on Fee Lane.
Last year was a Disney movie whose script wrote itself except that would be trite and barely contain a narrative of the heroics of that statue. With heroes straight out of Homer, and a quest even more farfetched, Fernando Mendoza and Curt Cignetti became a modern Ulyesses and Achilles, and even Ohio State and Miami couldn't provide a suitable villain.

Recent Hornets trade acquisition Dennis Schroder spoke about joining Charlotte this offseason as the 2026-27 season approaches. Although the Cavaliers and Hornets just finalized the deal last week, it had been in the works for a long time, as Cleveland had been aiming to free up cap ******* e.
Officially, Schroder was dealt to the Hornets along with $4 million for Tre Mann, Charlotte's backup point guard. Additionally, Schroder is the second-most traded player in NBA history, having been dealt nine times.
Following the move, Schroder opened up about his new fit and his time with the Cavaliers, saying, "I've known for a month (about the trade). Things can change very quickly in the NFL, and one former Oregon Duck learned that the hard way.
Former Ducks wide receiver Traeshon Holden was cut by the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, according to Dallas Morning News reporter Joseph Hoyt. The Cowboys signed Holden as an undrafted free agent in 2025. The move to release him from the roster opens up a spot for the future Hall of Fame edge rusher Von Miller, who the Cowboys agreed to a contract on Monday.
Holden quickly became a fan favorite with the Cowboys in training camp last year. He made some plays in the preseason, but he truly impressed fans and the coaching staff in training camp to earn a spot on the practice squad in Dallas, where he spent all of last season.
Coming into his second season, Holden was expected to contend for a roster spot, but he had a tough showing in the team's first preseason game on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. Holden didn't catch any passes and **** ed a punt, resulting in a turnover. Undrafted rookie Camden Brown caught two touchdowns as well, making Holden an easier name to let go of.
While he won't be staying in Dallas, Holden could catch on somewhere else. His speed and ability to make tough catches intrigued the Cowboys enough to keep him on the practice squad last year, and another team could have a similar feeling and keep him on the roster.
