After struggling in the Super Bowl, the New England Patriots offense was hopeful to turn things around in its rematch with the Seattle Seahawks defense in Week 1. While the game as a whole was much more competitive, the end result was still disappointing.
The Patriots finished with just 10 points on the day, turned the ball over three times, and were plagued by some of the same issues that already haunted them back on Super Sunday. The game was there for the taking, but Drake Maye's third interception of the day sealed it in the home team's favor, which came away with a 13-10 victory over the reigning AFC champions.
In the aftermath of the loss and New England's disappointing outing, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels found himself the subject of criticism for what was seen as a fairly conservative game plan. However, head coach Mike Vrabel defended the plan on Monday.
"I don't look at things as conservative. That's what we felt like was best against this defense," Vrabel said during an appearance on WEEI's The Greg Hill Show.
"We didn't hit some things and you have to be able to run the football against split safety defense. That's no secret. You don't play split safety defense to stop the run; they play it to not give up big plays. We tried to hit some shots down the field. We threw it to the running backs a couple times for 12 or 15 yards when they were all off there, and on the interception should have thrown it to the back again for a third time. You just can't get bored doing things right. If it's not there it's not there."

Michigan did not need any clock discrepancies to go its way against Oklahoma.

Sky Sports' Ted Kravitz gave a rare sneak inside the F1 drivers' briefing room in Madrid for the Spanish GP, as FIA lists changes to Madring circuit after the meet.
Like the earlier years of F1, footage from drivers' briefing was back online in 2017 season when Formula One Management allowed snippet to be posted on its Youtube channel with the late Charlie Whiting as the FIA race director. It was done for few rounds, starting in Monaco.
After its success, the footage was broadcasted in races like Malaysia, ****** an, Austin and Mexico. But it was discontinued from 2018 onward due to breach of sanctity of discussions that the F1 drivers think should be private between them and the FIA, its race director.
They wanted to speak with an open mind in the form and not let it out in public to create fan wars and unwarranted interpretations. Since then, no footage has been made available, although the discussions that takes place often gets around in the media, especially if there are some long discussions.

The FSU baseball program has landed its fourth player in the 2028 recruiting class, and it is yet another in-state prospect, with two-way player Garrett Harper committing on Thursday.
"Officially committed to Florida State University! 🍢 Thank you to my parents, family, friends, coaches, teammates, and Brad for believing in me and helping me get here." he wrote on social media. "Thank you to FSU for the opportunity to continue my academic & baseball journey. Time to work!"
Harper is a left-handed pitcher and outfielder from Cocoa Beach, Florida. He was originally a member of the 2029 recruiting class, but reclassified to join the 2028 class in April. He has a great frame at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds.
He had a strong freshman season at Cocoa Beach High School and is looking to take another step as a junior after skipping his sophomore season. He finished the season hitting .442 with nine doubles, one home run, 19 RBI, and 27 runs in 29 games. He recorded a .509 on-base percentage, walking 11 times and striking out twice.
He made 12 appearances on the mound, going 3-0 with a 2.07 ERA in 44 innings. He held opponents to a .179 batting average, allowing 26 runs (13 earned) on 28 hits and 30 walks, striking out 69 batters. He faced 190 batters and did not allow an extra-base hit.

Tress Way has been a member of the Commanders for more than a decade, but it sounds like they're going to have to start planning for life without him.
Way will begin his 13th season with the team on Sunday and he announced on Thursday that he expects it to be his final one as an NFL player.
"I am pretty sure this is gonna be my last season," Way said, via Nicki Jhabvala of TheAthletic.com.

Florida State hosted No. 19 SMU in an ACC matchup that got off to an unusual start Monday night.
Kickoff was delayed until 9:15 p.m. after a power outage inside the stadium. Even when play began, it wasn't a typical college football game, with no public address announcements, in-game video replay, coach-to-player audio or video board.
SMU won the coin toss before the outage and chose to receive.

Yes, there is such a thing as a good 5-5 start – at least for now, considering how insane it is to try figuring out all these teams with mostly new players.
What's so good about it? Going 3-2 yesterday was fine, and over the first two runs, one loss was that horrific Hawaii beat against Stanford, another came in the final seconds of Illinois-UAB, and then there's the whopper – thinking Rutgers would destroy UMass. Celtic and Rangers have both been ordered to play their next home Scottish Cup match behind closed doors following the crowd trouble that marred last season's quarter-final at Ibrox.
An independent review into Celtic's win in March found that that "crushing" and "life-threatening violence" were narrowly avoided after fans from both teams stormed the pitch.
Dozens of arrests followed clashes between fans on the pitch after Celtic won on penalties. Rangers fans confronted Celtic supporters who had spilled onto the pitch in celebration.
The punishment, which will see both Celtic and Rangers pay their opponents £100,000 in compensation for the loss of gate receipts, will only apply to their next home Scottish Cup fixture.

The boys of Bayonne have been eliminated from the Little League World Series after losing 5-2 to Ohio on Tuesday.
Bayonne lost a game on Sunday, meaning the loss on Tuesday night was an elimination game.

A very businesslike win for the Guardians tonight as they beat the Angels 5-2.
The Guardians scored early to give Parker Messick a small lead to work with, which has been rare of late for Cleveland's best pitcher and Cy Young/Rookie of the Year candidate.
Nathaniel "Knows What to Do With RISP" Lowe got a sacrifice fly in the third after a Kwan walk, Jose single and Jo Adell walk. Rocchio had flied out sharply to begin the inning and Angel Genao was putting up an excellent AB when Adell was caught in a rundown that ended with Jose getting tagged out at third.
Messick's only troublesome inning was the fourth where a single from Zach Neto and single from Mike Trout allowed a Moises Ballesteros single to drive in the Angels' only run to tie the game at 1. I am so impressed with how Messick never gets frustrated. He finds his center and gets himself out of trouble over and over.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters after practice on Thursday at Missouri Western State University. He shared his biggest takeaways from this year's training camp.
"Yeah, I'll tell you, they worked. They worked hard, and I appreciated that. I thought we made progress. I mentioned before, I think it's the young guys that you're really looking at here. We have a number of them, and how they've progressed and continue to progress will be a big part of how this team does," said Reid. So, I appreciate the way they went about their business. You have examples like (Travis) Kelce; he's the oldest guy on the team and came out every day and worked to where you had to yank him out of there to give him a breather. Then Pat (Mahomes) doing what he did with his knee and didn't miss a day, and Chris Jones, (Nick) Bolton, you have leadership like that; that's important. And the guys, I thought, followed right along with them."
The Chiefs veterans were determined throughout the training camp session to be prepared and ready for the start of the new season after a disappointing 2025 campaign. Reid also praised the new rookie class for contributing to the camp's success.
"You could take that rookie class and look at them. They all, I thought, had their day, and they've added some consistency to their game," said Reid. "We always talk about stacking days and improving every day and find one thing you can work on to get better at all those. All the same, I thought they handled that and tried to do that. So, you could take that whole class there, and I'd give them a thumbs up on how they went about their business."
Rookies Cyrus Allen and Kahlil Benson were often mentioned for their standout moments, helping their upward trajectory on the depth chart. The Chiefs return to normal practices at the team facility, and the final two preseason games will help determine the 53-man roster.

ST. LOUIS — Four birdies on the back nine of his opening round drastically improved Justin Thomas' week in St. Louis, where the 2019 BMW Champion posted a 3-under 67 to sit three shots off Gary Woodland's clubhouse lead.
The week started abnormally for Thomas, who copped to practicing harder than usual on Monday after coming off a T-47 finish at TPC Southwind last week and entering Bellerive No. 44 in FedExCup scoring.
Only problem for JT? The extra work backfired — at least in the short term.
"Just couldn't get anything going and then — more than anything — I left there in a way worse place mentally than I feel like I should have or would have liked or hoped," said Thomas of his time in Memphis.
"It was a day that I likely would take off, but I just wanted to come out and feel like I kind of had some positivity or something to build on," he added about the work put in earlier this week. "It took a lot longer than I planned or wanted it to. Really it was, honestly, a pretty terrible day, to be perfectly honest."

The 6-7, 215-pound wing, Iowa Hawkeyes wing Tavion Banks, received an extra year of college eligibility through the state of Colorado's injunction against the NCAA. After the eligibility ruling, Banks told 247 Sports that the Gonzaga Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Oklahoma Sooners are his four choices for his last college basketball campaign. A return to Iowa City, Iowa, is not being considered.
Banks averaged 10.2 points on 52.0 field goal percentage/44.2 three-point percentage/79.2 free throw percentage, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in 37 games played, including 35 starts, for Iowa this past season.
Before joining the Hawkeyes, the Kansas City, Missouri, native began his career on the junior college level at Northwest Florida State College for his first two seasons. Banks then transferred to the Drake Bulldogs under coach Ben McCollum in 2024-25 and followed him to Iowa in 2025-26.
Gonzaga has one of their 15 roster spots available at the moment, but is also awaiting the NCAA to grant approval of 6-3 point guard Nathan De Sousa from France's Cholet Basket and 6-10 power forward/center Izan Almansa from Spain's Real Madrid.
