Liverpool are ready to sanction their biggest sale since Philippe Coutinho, Anfield Watch understands.
Liverpool's biggest sale remains the €135m departure of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. It is, in all honesty, one of the worst signings of all time from the Catalonians.
Not only did Coutinho not live up to expectations but he was also on loan at Bayern Munich as they knocked Barcelona out of the UEFA Champions League in 2020 in route to winning it. That's underselling it, actually: he scored twice against them.
Still, from a Liverpool perspective, it's some of the finest business they've ever done. Coutinho was playing sensational football at the time and his exit was a blow, but the money coming in allowed for the Reds to comfortable adapt their squad.
They'd sign some elite players and build a team that went on to win the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020. There's no question that it was the right move to make.
