The NFL is back, and with that comes exciting upsets like the Arizona Cardinals winning over the Los Angeles Chargers, as well as the New York Giants pulling out a rare win at home to open the season against the Dallas Cowboys. The Raiders also made a statement against the Miami Dolphins. Still, injuries are a reality in football as usual, so Let's take a look at some of the notable names who have been injured during Week One and who could show up on the report Wednesday.

EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon had gone an entire season without conceding a goal in the run of play. Rutgers needed four minutes and eleven seconds of the second half.
Amanda Thornton scored from the middle of the box off her right foot at 49:11, and that was the match. Rutgers beat Oregon 1-0 on Thursday at Papé Field in front of 673 to open Big Ten play with a win, and it did it while being outshot 20-16, out-cornered 8-1 and outshot on target 10-3. Olivia Bodmer made eleven saves and did not concede. Thornton's goal was the only shot Rutgers put on target in the second half.
Rutgers arrived at 1-1-3 with a week's rest and its first win of the season in the books, a 4-2 win over Princeton at Yurcak Field on Sept. 6 in which the Scarlet Knights surrendered the lead twice and won anyway. Lilia Calvert scored twice in four minutes after the 80th, the first two goals of her college career, on the only two shots she took. Ashley Baran and Sophia Stiles had the others. Three of the four goals came after the 70th minute, the stretch of the game this team could not survive eight days earlier against Providence. For the conference slate, Rutgers was picked 15th of 18 in the Big Ten preseason poll after missing the NCAA tournament last season for the first time since 2011.
Oregon was picked 18th, and arrived at 5-0-1.
The Ducks went unbeaten through nonconference play for only the second time since 1981, opened with their best six-game start since the 2016 team also went 5-0-1, and scored 17 goals, the program's most through six matches in 45 years. It is Week 1, and the last thing I want to do is incite panic among a group of fantasy football managers who have been waiting all offseason for this moment. We drafted these teams, talked ourselves into these players and have been waiting for real football to finally get here. The last thing you want to hear before setting your first lineup is somebody telling you to worry about one of the players you drafted.

But think about it this way. There are some legitimate concerns heading into Week 1, and I would much rather know about those concerns now and set my expectations accordingly than find out when the games start. So these are panics, but they are loose panics. We are not burying anybody before the season starts. This is simply about identifying where there may be a little more risk than we anticipated when we drafted these players.
Let's start with Dak Prescott because this one caught my attention immediately. Tyler Smith is going to have surgery on his thumb and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Smith is one of the best guards in football, and Dallas is going to open the season against the Giants, Commanders, Ravens and Texans without arguably the best player on its offensive line.
Then, you look at the rest of that offensive line and there are reasons to be concerned. Terence Steele allowed 52 pressures last season, which is not good, and now T.J. Bass is being asked to step into Smith's spot. Manchester United failed to sign a striker this summer, despite being linked with several candidates for the job. Among the player on their wish list was long-term target Harry Kane.
The Premier League giants were looking to add more competition for Benjamin Sesko in the squad. The Slovenian arrived at the Theatre of Dreams in a big-money move at the beginning of last season and enjoyed a decent debut run.
Sesko was particularly impressive following Michael Carrick's arrival, helping United finish third in the Premier League table.
However, with the Red Devils all set to compete in the Champions League this season and Joshua Zirkzee's future uncertain, INEOS were expected to sign an experienced No. 9 this year. A move for Kane was touted as a possibility, especially since he has entered the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich.

When OSU hosts Ball State on Sept. 5 at Ohio Stadium, coach Jake Diebler will bring two players from the class of 2027 along for the experience.
It's still unclear how many players Ohio State might sign for its 2027 class. The Buckeyes had a commitment from five-star guard LJ Smith, but he graduated early and is getting his freshman season started with the Buckeyes. Of the 15 players currently on Ohio State's roster, the only one known to be out of eligibility after this season is fifth-year guard Jimmie Williams.
Otherwise, all 14 other players would have the ability to still be on the roster for 2027-28. Granted, that scenario is highly unlikely in the era of name, image and likeness rights, but it does decrease the likelihood of Ohio State signing a big 2027 class.

The Padres catcher-of-the-future impressed in his 24 games with the Chihuahuas and finished strong before getting the promotion to finish his 2026 season with the major league squad.

It may seem insignificant to some, but after Thursday's win Indio High School is now 2-0 in football for the first time since 2007.
That should be a big deal for the school. But the work is not done, and head coach James Dockery said as much this week at practice, after a big season-opening win.
But after a second big win, this time a 28-7 win over Indian Springs, it feels significant. Not just because of the amount of time that has passed since last time the school opened with consecutive wins, but also because of the confidence that will surely come from these two lopsided outcomes. That makes this feel sustainable.
Last week's 53-6 win was an outlier at Indio, at least in recent years. Thursday's win added validity and showed that there is indeed something special happening at Indio this year and perhaps beyond.
Indio never felt in trouble in this one. The Rajahs led 14-0 at the intermission and then went up 21-0 before Indian Springs scored early in the fourth quarter.

"What are the Braves doing at shortstop?" Kind of the recently-eternal question, after the Swanson swan song, Orlando Arcia's one decent season, and then The Issues since. Seriously, from 2024-2026, the Braves are not only dead last in shortstop fWAR (1.3 in 1673 PAs), but they're so far down that even the 29th-place team, the Rockies (always the Rockies) has more than double the Braves' shortstop production (2.7). While Braves' shortstops have been good defensively (seventh in defensive value in that span, thanks Nick Allen!), they haven't hit at all, with a 64 wRC+ putting them in their own sad tier, well below the Guardians, Rockies, and Rays, whose shortstop wRC+s over the past three seasons are hanging out in the low-to-mid 70s.
Jim Jarvis, de facto starting shortstop against right-handers for a fair while now, is the latest contributor to this value-bleed, and is now going away.

Jarvis was a fun story, and presented as a fun guy. Acquired as a non-return for Rafael Montero last year, he fared well in Atlanta's minor league system. He then got a decent run in Atlanta in July, and put together a 111 wRC+. It wasn't at all supported by his inputs, but even those inputs were decent (.336 wOBA, .308 xwOBA).
But then the calendar turned to August, and Jarvis languished. In 42 August PAs, he has a -36 wRC+ (yes that's a negative sign) and a .208 xwOBA. Sure, he's underhitting his xwOBA by nearly .100, but a .208 xwOBA is… really bad. Put this together with shortstop defense that was above-average but not awesome thanks to some goofs on simple plays, and you have Jim Jarvis, 124 major league PAs, a 56 wRC+, and -0.1 fWAR.

The time is quickly approaching when the Dallas Cowboys will have to make some tough decisions in order to get under the league mandated 53-man roster limit. Many players have the ease of mind that their roster spot is secured, leaving those currently sitting on the bubble fighting for one of the few spots still open. It's a few of those players we wanted to shine the light on today.
After hauling in three INTs in the scrimmage with the Los Angeles Rams and a another strong showing against the Seattle Seahawks in the first preseason game, Justin Barron has suddenly gone from a roster longshot to someone who will be difficult to cut. He seems to have grown leaps and bounds from last year to this after joining the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse, pushing Shemar James and Curtis Robinson for one of the final LB roster spots.
Can the Cowboys afford to carry five safeties on the active roster? Probably not, but Julius Wood is certainly making his case they should. He's been impressive throughout training camp and it's carried over so far into preseason. He's known more as a downhill number from the safety position, but has played deep, in the box, and slot for Christian Parker. That versatility and position flex is worth keeping around. He was cut last year, can he avoid that fate a second time?
Tommy Dunn, an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky this year, is starting make some waves along the Cowboys defensive front recently. He was credited with four total pressures in Saturday's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks and has proven to be a strong run defender, both at the point of attack and in pursuit. With the players ahead of them on the depth chart and the number of DTs the Cowboys will likely carry on the active roster, he someone they do ideally prefer to clear waivers and re-sign to the practice squad.

A viral ad campaign by the Kelce brothers' joint company, Garage Beer, in collaboration with energy drink Liquid Death, has sparked amusement and bewilderment online.
A satirical ad campaign by Liquid Death and Garage Beer, co-owned by Travis Kelce and his recently retired brother Jason, asks fans to mail in their urine to AI data centers to cool down their servers instead of wasting fresh water.
In an advert that is fair to put in the 'you don't see that every day' column, Jason Kelce, after urinating, is soon surrounded by members of the public singing extravagantly with their hands aloft, "We want your pee."
Although a humorous look at AI, it is an odd advert, and many in the sports world had their say.
'Rat King' on X wrote, "Temperature check on public AI sentiment: Kelce brother ad focused on mailing [expletive] jars to data centers." X user Eric The Great replied, clearly bewildered, writing simply: "What on earth."

"I say this because it's just been four or five, six weeks of below average production in our offense. It's just the truth, and I think we have just haven't played clean baseball for quite some time, and that speaks to the defense," Roberts said.
The Dodgers lost three of four in the key series against the Brewers, who are three games ahead of Los Angeles in the chase for the National League's best record and hold the head-to-head advantage for postseason seeding if the teams end up in a two-way deadlock.

Schefter reported the latest development on Sunday, providing another indication that Donald is seriously considering a return to the team where he built a Hall of Fame career.

Caiya Hanks returned after a 14-month absence while recovering from an ACL injury to score the winning goal in the Portland Thorns' 2-1 victory over the Orlando Pride on Saturday night.
In the only other game in the National Women's Soccer League, Racing Louisville routed the Boston Legacy 4-1.
Eight minutes after coming on as a substitute, Hanks scored in the 96th minute to give the Thorns (10-6-4) the victory at Portland's Providence Park.

BOCA RATON, FL — The first thing you notice when you pull into West Boca Raton High School isn't the football field.
It's Patrick Mahomes.
His Gladiator logo is on the street-pole banners leading onto campus, on the wind screens surrounding the stadium and on tents scattered along the sideline. It's painted on both 25-yard lines, too, while players and coaches move around in pregame shirts bearing the same logo.
For one Friday night, West Boca's football complex looked less like a high school stadium and more like a Mahomes-branded showcase.
And, in a way, that's exactly what it was.

Boss Sergej Jakirovic has cast doubt over whether Hull City will return with a second offer for Swansea City striker Zan Vipotnik.
News emerged on Monday that Hull, who won promotion to the Premier League last season, had seen a bid for Vipotnik rejected by Swansea.
The Slovenia international, 24, was the leading scorer in the Championship in 2025-26.
Vipotnik netted 25 Swansea goals last season – including 23 in the league – and scored three times for his country.
