Florida State basketball's preseason slate is beginning to take shape, with head coach Luke Loucks heading into his second season. The Seminoles will host the LSU Tigers in an exhibition game on Oct. 24 at the Donald L. Tucker Center, adding another high-profile tune-up before the start of the 2026-27 regular season.
The matchup became public as LSU released its complete schedule on Tuesday, which includes an exhibition trip to Tallahassee under the NCAA's expanded preseason format.
The exhibition gives Florida State another opportunity to face high-level competition before the games begin to count. The Seminoles are already scheduled to meet the Auburn Tigers in the Ballin in Boutwell preseason showcase on Oct. 14 in Birmingham, Alabama, making LSU the second SEC opponent on Luke Loucks' preseason slate.
The addition of LSU is particularly notable as programs continue taking advantage of the NCAA rule allowing Division I schools to play up to three preseason exhibitions against fellow Division I opponents. Rather than facing lower-division competition, teams are increasingly scheduling power-conference opponents to better prepare for the regular season.
Florida State is scheduled to begin the regular season on Nov. 2 against Florida A&M in the Orion180 Tip-Off Classic in Tampa. By then, the Seminoles will have already faced Auburn and LSU in what projects to be one of the more challenging preseason schedules in the country.

There was a time when every conversation about the Philadelphia Eagles' pass rush centered on who they didn't have. Should they trade for a superstar? Would they pursue another expensive veteran? Could they survive without adding one more marquee edge rusher? This time around, Howie Roseman answered those questions differently.
Rather than chasing headlines, the Eagles quietly **** embled one of the NFL's deeper edge rotations. Jonathan Greenard arrived via trade, giving Philadelphia another proven starter capable of making an immediate impact. Free-agent additions Arnold Ebiketie and A.J. Epenesa weren't splashy acquisitions, but both represent the type of low-risk, high-upside moves Roseman has built his reputation on.
Add former first-round pick Nolan Smith, emerging pass rusher Jalyx Hunt and rookie Keyshawn James-Newby, and suddenly the Eagles have no shortage of intriguing options. That's before mentioning Joshua Weru, the undrafted rookie whose athletic upside makes him a fascinating long-term developmental project despite his limited football experience.
Philadelphia's approach says a great deal about how the organization views pass rushing. The Eagles didn't need one player to replace Jaelan Phillips, but this might be a room capable of creating relentless pressure over four quarters.
But take that thought a tad further. They may have found an upgrade for Phillips anyway. If Greenard stays healthy, there's every reason to believe he could become an even better fit than Phillips was because of his versatility and experience within multiple defensive fronts.

When the Leeds United squad boarded their flight to North America this week, one name was missing from the manifest. Largie Ramazani was left behind at Thorp Arch. It was a calculated move. Unmistakable, really. Spanish outlet Marca broke the news that the 25-year-old winger has been excluded from the club's stateside tour, signalling to anyone paying attention that Daniel Farke has effectively closed the door on the Belgian's time in West Yorkshire.
Valencia are waiting in the wings. Having hosted Ramazani on loan throughout the 2025/26 La Liga campaign, the Spanish outfit want him back at the Mestalla, this time permanently. Their CEO, Ron Gourlay, initiated contact with Leeds chiefs back in June to sniff out a realistic asking price.
Money is the sticking point. Leeds naturally want to claw back a hefty chunk of the £10 million package paid to Almería back in 2024, particularly with a 15 per cent sell-on clause owed to the Spanish side hanging over the deal. Valencia, operating on a far tighter budget, want a bargain. They have floated the idea of another season-long loan with a non-mandatory option to buy. Leeds should shut that down instantly. A second loan leaves all the risk on Elland Road balance sheets while Valencia reap the rewards without dropping a single euro on a permanent transfer fee.
Ramazani's spell in Spain was decent enough. Playing under Carlos Corberan on the left wing, he notched six goals and one ***** ist in 22 top-flight outings, logging 1,224 minutes on the pitch. A return of six goals from a wide player in a transitional Valencia side is a solid foundation. Yet, his 6.62 average match rating on FotMob points to a player who still drifts. He can vanish for 70 minutes, only to pop up with a flash of brilliance.
That was always the conundrum in West Yorkshire, too. During Leeds' Championship ***** le-winning campaign, Ramazani made 31 appearances but started a paltry nine times. Bizarrely, his underlying metric, xG plus xA per 90 minutes, was the highest of any player in the entire division. The data screamed elite output. Farke's team selections said something else entirely. The German manager simply never trusted him to do the dirty work off the ball.

Spain midfielder Gavi does not want Argentina's Leandro Paredes to be suspended for his part in the altercation at the end of Sunday's World Cup final.
Paredes, along with team-mate Nahuel Molina and Argentina coach Roberto Ayala, were involved in the brawl seconds after the final whistle blew on Spain's 1-0 victory at the MetLife Stadium.
Fifa has confirmed that no red card was shown to Paredes on the field, but on Monday evening Fifa announced that its disciplinary committee had appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to investigate possible breaches of the Fifa disciplinary code during the incident.
Gavi told El Partidazo de COPE: "I don't think (Paredes) should be suspended. I understand it's not a good image for children, but I think there's also that side to football, which is a bit more physical, more aggressive.
"The most logical thing would have been to send him off during the match, and that's it. In the end, I think it's all football, and it has to be that way."

Michigan men's basketball point guard L.J. Cason officially entered his name into the transfer portal on July 20. Just one day later, he has a new college basketball home.
The Florida native is taking his talents back to his home state, as he is set to transfer to the University of Miami.
Cason was a three-star prospect and originally committed to Florida Atlantic in the 2024 recruiting class before Dusty May left for Michigan. He followed May to Ann Arbor and found immediate success as a true freshman, playing in all 30 games off the bench. He averaged 4.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and one ****** ist in 11.8 minutes per game his first year in college.
He took another step forward this past year, playing in 28 games and averaging 8.4 points, 2.4 ****** ists and 1.9 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game. Cason was playing really well midseason prior to his season-ending ACL injury at Illinois on Feb. 27, the night the Wolverines clinched the Big Ten regular-season championship.
Head coach Mike Boynton Jr. and company will now be tasked with coming up with a plan to distribute minutes at the point guard position for the 2026-27 season. Cason was reportedly eyeing a late-season return from his ACL tear, but now that he is officially gone, developing a plan with the remaining guys on the roster should be a priority. Elliot Cadeau is locked in as the starter, while Trey McKenney and Brandon McCoy Jr. will also likely ply a factor handling the ball. The Wolverines also welcome in another true freshman in Joseph Hartman who might be able to earn some minutes at point guard as well.

Wednesday's World Cup semifinal game between England and Argentina carries plenty of drama. On the field and off.
Via the London Times, a meeting of FIFA, the FBI, and the Atlanta police department has resulted in a determination that it will be the "highest risk" game of the entire tournament.
There's a history between the teams — and the countries. Per the report, the Falklands War of 1982 continues to be a sticking point, 44 years later.
The FIFA ticketing policy will result in the fans being intermingled throughout much of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. However, official ticket allocations for the two teams will be at opposite ends of the stadium, with each group having its own entrance in order to limit the possibility of incidents.
The two teams last faced each other in a 2005 "friendly." Three years earlier, England beat Argentina on a penalty kick by David Beckham. (The attempt was the result of a foul committed by Mauricio Pochettino, the current coach of the U.S. team.)

Spain are within touching distance of glory. Luis de la Fuente's side beat France convincingly 2-0 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington and booked their place in the 2026 World Cup final after a display of character, footballing quality and competitive maturity.

Voted by the players themselves, the Ravens’ two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson has fallen to No. 69, down 67 spots from his No. 2 placement in 2025.
“It was a trying season for the two-time AP NFL Most Valuable Player. He missed three games early due to a hamstring injury and another contest late with a back contusion, and in between didn’t move much like himself,” Bobby Kownack of NFL.com wrote. “Jackson nonetheless finished the year fourth in passer rating (103.8), higher than seven Pro Bowl or Pro Bowl alternate quarterbacks. Now he hits the reset **** on under new head coach Jesse Minter with bouncing back in mind. The last time he fell this low in the Top 100—No. 72 on the 2023 list—Jackson went on to earn two straight No. 2 spots.”
Jackson didn’t have a bad season in 2025. In fact, it would actually have been a great year for most quarterbacks. But for the two-time MVP, Jackson’s numbers were way down as both a passer and a rusher.
Still, the fall gives Steelers fans something to laugh about as Pittsburgh’s tremendous offseason continues to fly under the radar around the NFL.

Manchester United "have other areas to strengthen" this transfer window as they continue their pursuit of midfield recruits, says The Devils' Advocate podcast co-host Gaz Drinkwater.
Manchester City secured United's top target Elliot Anderson at the start of the window, they were unwilling to match Tottenham's bid for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes and, most recently, their move for Atalanta's Ederson collapsed after his medical despite agreeing a deal for the Brazilian at the beginning of June.
Now the club have signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea and are closing in on a deal for Aston Villa's Youri Tielemans, but Drinkwater believes United need to be putting their focus elsewhere.

Neither of the Los Angeles Rams' starting interior offensive linemen made the top-10 of ESPN's annual survey of NFL executives, coaches and scouts. Kevin Dotson and Steve Avila were left off the list, but were included among players "also receiving votes."
The omission is notable given how the duo was ranked by Sports Illustrated. Both had sensational seasons in their own right, too. Dotson, the right guard, finished with an 86.4 overall Pro Football Focus grade, third-best among 81 qualified guards, while playing 885 offensive snaps. His run-blocking was a strength, and the Rams' offense visibly missed him when a Week 16 ankle injury sidelined him for three-plus games — Los Angeles averaged 4.8 yards per carry with Dotson on the field compared to 4.0 without him. He was also elite at the end of games.
Avila, working at left guard, posted a career-high 76.8 overall PFF grade, ninth among qualified guards, to go with a 74.1 run-blocking grade that ranked 11th at the position. He allowed 14 total pressures on the season — including one sack and five quarterback hits — while being flagged for just one penalty across 835 snaps, marking his most efficient pass-blocking season since entering the league as a 2023 second-round pick out of TCU.
Together, Dotson and Avila give the Rams one of the more productive if unheralded guard tandems in the league, even without a top-10 nod from evaluators. Both are entering the final years of their respective contracts in 2026, setting up a significant offseason decision for Los Angeles.

Switzerland vs. Argentina’s quarterfinal game has already ended in heartbreak for Breel Embolo.
Argentina may have taken an early lead because of Mac Allister’s 10th-minute header from a stunning Lionel Messi corner, but Switzerland found an equalizer in the second half.
However, the Swiss couldn’t celebrate Dan Ndoye’s goal for long due to Breel Embolo’s sending off just minutes later.
For context, Embolo was already on a yellow card for a rough challenge on Leandro Paredes in the first half. In an attempt to get back at the Argentine midfielder, Embolo tried diving when being defended by him.
Initially, Paredes was called for a foul and a yellow card, but after a VAR review, it was converted to a second yellow card for Embolo as the Swiss attacker broke into tears after being sent off.

Heading into the 2026 MLB Draft, there were a number of directions the Yankees could take to kick off their selections off. There was speculation that the team would go for a catcher to improve one of the thinnest areas of depth within the organization, and they’ve overall tended to lean towards hitters at the top of the draft class. With the 35th pick in the draft, they instead chose to go for a pitcher, taking Hunter Dietz out of Arkansas.
Dietz was a nationally ranked prospect coming out of high school from Cavalry Christian High (Clearwater, FL), and is a junior in college, but he really only has college experience from this past season as he pitched 1.2 innings combined in his first two years at Arkansas following surgery to repair a stress fracture in his elbow. A looming lefty standing at 6-foot-6, Dietz made his return to the mound in 2026 and dominated in the Southeastern Conference, posting a 3.57 ERA with 131 strikeouts in 85.2 innings, good for a 36.2 percent strikeout rate.
Rankings on Dietz range from an expected spot to be selected to a decent steal, as Baseball America ranked him 34th overall on their list while MLB Pipeline gave him their 17th overall placement and The Athletic placing him as high as 12th overall. Scouts have raved about his fastball-slider combination, and MLB Pipeline rated both as 60-grade pitches thanks to Dietz sitting in the high 90s with the heater while his slider is drawing swing and misses more than 50 percent of the time. There’s consensus across the scouting reports that Dietz is on the shortlist for best college left-hander in this draft with plenty of teams considering him the best, and while the lost couple of years might’ve scared off teams in the front half of the first round the Yankees benefitted from him falling into their lap.
The strength of the Yankees’ farm system the last couple of years has been their pitching pipeline, and they’ve added a potential gem to the pile with Dietz in the mix. He has the potential to be a fast riser, but there’s also plenty of risk to manage here. The Yankees are no strangers to SEC starters, and I see a bit of a parallel to when the team landed Clarke Schmidt out of the 2017 Draft. Schmidt’s injury happened in reverse, seeing him undergo Tommy John surgery to conclude his college career, but the body of work he already had was enough for the Yankees to take him with the 16th overall pick and he blossomed into a fine MLB starter for them.

The Netherlands job remains one of the biggest posts in international football, and the noise around Arne Slot refuses to go away. Since Ronald Koeman stepped down after the Dutch World Cup exit this summer, the Dutch FA has been searching for a figure capable of restoring direction and belief.
Slot has quickly become one of the standout names in that conversation. Reports in recent weeks have suggested he has already held initial talks and remains firmly on the shortlist. For Liverpool supporters, that naturally catches the eye. A Netherlands role would see him working closely with Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and Jeremie Frimpong on the international stage, a familiar spine with plenty of quality.
Slot is far from the only contender. Peter Bosz has also emerged as a serious option, with the Dutch FA understood to have considered him even before Koeman walked away. Bosz brings experience, presence and a clear footballing identity, all things that matter when a national side is trying to steady itself.
Erik ten Hag has been mentioned too, but his position appears clear enough. He has said, "I'm not available," before adding, "I have deliberately chosen this step. I'm working on that for the next two years anyway. I'm having a good time here and would like to help the club further." That sounds like a man who has no intention of jumping ship.

Another game, another dominant victory for France.
After dispatching Morocco 2-0 without breaking much of a sweat, France secured a spot in the semifinals and continued its **** ault on the FIFA 2026 World Cup tournament.
The French are not only — by far — the best team in this World Cup, but they are making a strong case for being one of — if not the — best international team ever.
This is not a new development, either.
In 2018, France won the World Cup in convincing fashion and in 2022, France was runner-up after losing to Argentina…and it was all part of the build up to right now where the French are just blasting everyone.

The World Cup has been interrupted by weather several times, most often due to heat. Mexico's game against England was delayed due to lightning, and three other games have been delayed due to storms.
Experts have **** yzed the impact of hot environments on sports, particularly the World Cup. NPR **** yzed which games were most likely to be delayed due to heat, based on past temperature records. The data showed that American cities—including Houston, Dallas, and, to a lesser extent, New York and Philadelphia—were most at risk. Indeed, a heat dome brought 100-degree-Fahrenheit temperatures to the Northeast last week. Donal Mullan, a climate scientist at Queen's University Belfast, told NPR that players "can overheat, and match officials as well."
Several other outdoor professional sports have faced weather delays, some severe enough that games, tournaments, or matches had to be moved to alternative locations or postponed by a day. Below are a few of the most severe cases by sport.
NFL
Hurricane Irma (2017) was a Category 5 hurricane that formed on August 30 and dissipated on September 15. The game between the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was scheduled to be played at Hard Rock Stadium (65,000 seats) in Miami on September 10. The storm forced the game to be postponed until November 19.

It's looking to be a perfect day for the 49th running of Utica's Boilermaker Road Race, with the Binghamton National Weather Service predicting a cool morning from racers.
The annual event reached its entry caps at the end of June with 4,500 runners signed up for the 5K run through the city presented by Utica National and 11,000 for the featured 15K.
Binghamton National Weather Service Meteorologist Adam Gill said the average temperature for the Road Race weekend to be in the mid to upper 80s.
"It looks like it will be mostly sunny through the day, with cloud cover only being about five to ten percent," Gill explained, adding that Sunday is looking dry with winds of about three miles per hour.
Currently, Gill said there looked to be no signs of precipitation on race day. "The humidity will be on the lower end, but definitely drink water and wear sunscreen."
