After an eventful couple of months, Yan Diomande, one of football's top young prospects, is about to get his wish of joining a European powerhouse.
The 19-year-old is signing with Real Madrid in what can only be described as a record-setting transfer.
The Spanish giants will pay more than £100m for Diomande - making him a new record sale for RB Leipzig and he is expected to also become a new record signing for Real Madrid.
Simultaneously, Diomande becomes the most expensive African player in history.
His rise to stardom has also occurred seemingly in record time as less than 18 months ago he was almost completely unknown.

Video ******* istant referees should only be used to change "blatantly incorrect" decisions and clear missed incidents, say European refereeing officials.
Chief refereeing officers from all 55 European national football ******* ociations met last week with Uefa refereeing officials and a representative from the International Football ******* ociation Board (Ifab) to address recent changes to the game's laws.
Attendees said "lengthy, microscoping reviews" indicate VAR has gone beyond its original scope.
When VAR was added to the laws of the game in 2018 by football's rulemakers Ifab, its "philosophy" was "minimum interference - maximum benefit", with the intention of reducing "unfairness caused by clear and obvious errors or serious missed incidents" relating to goals, penalties, direct red cards and mistaken identity.
Uefa said that at its recent meeting that refereeing bosses agreed a return to those original aims is needed.

Fiorentina have made an approach for Jadon Sancho following his Manchester United exit. The 26-year-old winger was on loan at Aston Villa last season, yet despite being part of the Europa League-winning squad, he couldn't convince United to offer a new deal.
Now, a shock offer seems to be on its way to the free agent, as Fiorentina are keen to table a three-year deal. La Viola's sporting director Fabio Paratici has allegedly been a Sancho admirer for a while, yet the terms on offer will certainly have to be lower than the €10 million net total the former England international earned until last season.
Sancho hasn't yet given a response, but his team will be ready to resolve any concerns in the coming hours. Last year, he turned down a move to Roma, as Gian Piero Gasperini expressly asked Frederic Massara for him. While he chose to stay in the Premier League for the remainder of that term, it now looks like he'll leave England.
Jadon Sancho has been something of a frustrating figure for English football. His rising status took him from the academies of Watford and Manchester City, before he became a poster boy for a British generation trying their hand abroad.
Moving to Borussia Dortmund at the age of 18 in August 2017, Sancho hit the ground running the following season. Flare-filled performances and a plethora of eye-catching goals saw the young Englishman go on to amass 50 all-competition goals in 137 appearances in yellow and black.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Preparations for the next men's World Cup have already begun for teams in Southeast Asia, just weeks after Spain clinched the 2026 ****** le.
The ASEAN Cup has kicked off in Phnom Penh, and host Cambodia has already lost its opening games 2-1 to Singapore and 5-1 to Indonesia in Group A.
The biennial tournament features 10 national teams from the region of 650 million, and there's more on the minds of coaches and players than the trophy on offer in late August.
With Asian qualification for the 2030 World Cup starting next year, Southeast Asia's soccer powerhouses such as Indonesia — the only team from the region to appear on the global stage, when it competed as the Dutch East Indies in 1938 — Thailand and Vietnam, have an opportunity to start preparations early.
ASEAN Football Federation president Khiev Sameth said getting another team from the region into the World Cup is within reach.

Manchester City will embark on their first season without Pep Guardiola as manager for over a decade, as incoming boss Enzo Maresca prepares to take on the role.
The Italian head coach becomes just City's fourth manager in more than two decades following Guardiola, Manuel Pellegrini, and Roberto Mancini, and embarking on his third stay at the Etihad Stadium.
After spells within the club's Academy system, before departing to take on a head coach role in Italian football and returning to become Guardiola's **** istant in the 2022/23 season, Enzo Maresca has now been tasked with steering the club into a new era.
Among the early challenges is the summer transfer window and how best to tackle the exits of Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Nathan Ake, and possibly more including Rodri, as well as identifying the necessary stars to bolster his playing squad.
Now, ahead of the start of the 2026/27 season, here are all of the key dates you need to know and make a note of for a big season in the history of Manchester City!

For the better part of two years, it has felt like every conversation surrounding Alabama football has centered around what Kalen DeBoer isn't.
He's not Nick Saban.
He doesn't coach like Nick Saban.
He doesn't have Nick Saban's personality.
He doesn't carry himself the way Saban did on the sideline.

Real football is back for the Dallas Cowboys, who are set to take the field for the first time in training camp on Wednesday. Most of the roster is set, with a conservative number of around 35 players all but guaranteed to make the team.
That leaves almost 20 roster spots up for grabs. Anything can happen this summer in Oxnard, and odd things occur annually in training camp, so there are some veterans who might be surprise cuts for the Cowboys. Here are four players who could be shocking releases if they don't perform well in camp.
The offense doesn't have many depth issues, but tight end is a position where Dallas could be looking for more quality. The starter is Jake Ferguson, and the No. 2 option now appears to be Brevyn Spann-Ford, who has taken over for Luke Schoonmaker in the pecking order. While neither excelled as a receiver in the offense, Spann-Ford is a much better blocker.
Brevyn Spann-Ford (#89) is a hoss. pic.twitter.com/n40IE1Df8c
Among those who could push Schoonmaker off the roster are undrafted free agent TE Michael Trigg, who brings an intriguing skill set as a receiver, or Princeton Fant, who's managed to stick around for the last two seasons.

The biggest storyline surrounding Michigan this season will be how quickly the program adjusts to new leadership under head coach Kyle Whittingham. The Wolverines have built a reputation around physical football, strong defense, and controlling the line of scrimmage, and maintaining that identity will be a major focus as the program enters a new chapter.
The other big question is can Bryce Underwood take the next step to becoming an elite quarterback that this offense needs?
Bryce Underwood's Next Step
The biggest factor in Michigan's ceiling will likely be the continued development of quarterback Bryce Underwood. After arriving with enormous expectations, Underwood enters the season with the opportunity to prove he can become the next great quarterback in Ann Arbor.
Michigan has traditionally leaned on its running game and defense, but the modern Big Ten requires consistent quarterback play to compete with teams like Ohio State, Oregon, and Penn State. If Underwood can become more comfortable operating the offense, making quick decisions, and creating explosive plays, the Wolverines' offense could take a significant step forward.

Ed Orgeron has never been the kind of coach who disappears quietly. These days, the former LSU national championship coach is spending part of his offseason doing something few expected. But did you ever imagine him reading out fantasy football draft orders for fans on Cameo? Well…
"What's up guys, it's Coach O. Soon-to-be football season. I know we can't wait," Ed Orgeron opened his video with his familiar gravelly growl.
Another clip has him rattling off league names with the same intensity he once had for SEC Saturdays: "Check out these leagues. Jambalaya, Hush Puppies, Po' Boys, Gumbo."
In another clip, Orgeron jokingly predicts, "The old lady, Queen Kelsey, will beat you in fantasy football this year."
These days, Coach O isn't barking into a headset in front of 100,000 people. He's talking straight into a phone camera instead. Birthdays. Fantasy football leagues. Random shoutouts. Fans pay for the videos on Cameo, and lately those fantasy draft-order clips have been making the rounds again. Turns out that gravelly voice still grabs attention.

Tuesday (July 28) was a big day in the NFL, as the final 26 teams reported to training camp.
That means, as quickly as anyone can say camp has begun, the Arizona Cardinals have concluded the extra week of work they had because of their presence in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday, Aug. 6 against the Carolina Panthers.
Like the Cardinals, the Panthers also had their veterans report on July 22.
All coaches are big into planning, but Cardinals defensive coordinator Nick Rallis might be at the top of the list in looking ahead. So it was that he was asked last Friday what he was accomplishing with the extra week that he might not have been able to without the additional practice time.
"It's so funny," he said. "Like, I'm kind of mapping out installs for the future and it's like, dang, this is an extra week. What would I be doing if I didn't have this extra week? Because I'm like, 'Oh man, I got to get this in somewhere.' But I would say the biggest thing with that extra week is you can spread out installing the scheme, which allows you to just take your time a little bit more during the install meetings and really be on the details with the players.

CHICAGO – It's no secret college football doesn't look the same as it did five years ago; however, for Illinois' Bret Bielema and Josh Whitman, it's a whole new ball game.
Bielema and Whitman spoke Tuesday at Big Ten Media Days about the ever-changing landscape of college football.
"NIL and revenue share," Bielema said. "When those two things came into college football, everything changed."
As programs across the country keep changing to respond to compensation, transfer portal movement, and revenue sharing, Illinois is entering the 2026 season embracing the new landscape.
"The rosters have changed because of those two components, the transfer rule and revenue share," Bielema said. "It's a different world."

George Haffner averaged a robust 18.3 yards per completion quarterbacking Joe Kuharich's Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 1960. He also completed less than 30 percent of his passes and 11 of his 108 attempts were picked off. Frank Budka – 14 interceptions in 95 attempts -- and Daryle Lamonica took over in 1961 while Haffner left South Bend only to emerge at McNeese State in 1964.
Several other quarterbacks have moved on from Notre Dame, most recently Kenny Minchey, who will be the centerpiece of a new-look Kentucky offense under first-year coach Will Stein and new offensive coordinator Joe Sloan.
"Going to Notre Dame out of high school, it was just a decision that was best for me and my family and my situation," Minchey said at SEC media days in Tampa. "Then obviously coming to Kentucky, coming to the SEC, I just think it was a great opportunity."
The Tennessee native's resume is sparse (29 pass attempts) having spent the past three seasons behind starters C.J. Carr, Riley Leonard, Sam Hartman and ***** orted others on the depth chart. including Steve Angeli. In Lexington, Minchey, who has two years of eligibility, has the opportunity to show what he can do under a 36-year-old head coach who was the offensive coordinator at Oregon for three seasons working with Dante Moore, Dillon Gabriel and Bo Nix.

The Ravens' biggest offseason addition is ready to silence the doubters originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
When the Baltimore Ravens take the field for training camp, one player will draw more attention than almost anyone else: newly acquired edge rusher Trey Hendrickson.
After the Ravens missed out on trading for Maxx Crosby when a failed physical sent the star pass rusher back to the Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore quickly pivoted and landed one of the NFL's premier defensive playmakers. Now, expectations are high for Hendrickson as he prepares for his first season in purple and black.
The veteran edge defender enters camp looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued 2025 campaign that limited him to just seven games. While the shortened season slowed his production, it did little to diminish his reputation as one of football's most relentless pass rushers.
Just one season earlier, Hendrickson reminded the league why he is considered an elite defender. During the 2024 campaign, he led the NFL with 17.5 sacks while generating 65 quarterback pressures, consistently disrupting opposing offenses and changing games with his ability to collapse the pocket.

We made it.
After months of roster building and speculation, Eagles football is well and truly on the horizon with the first practice of training camp set for Wednesday morning. And on that horizon, it shouldn't be forgotten just how much is at stake this season; the Eagles have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL and at least some reason for optimism that they can continue the trend of following up a Super-Bowl hungover season with a deep postseason run the next year.
As we eagerly await the start of this season's journey, here are five thoughts on Jalen Carter signing a contract extension and the biggest position battles that will play out over the next handful of weeks.
On training camp eve, the Eagles made Carter the richest defensive tackle in the NFL with a four-year contract extension reportedly worth $152 million with another $8 million in incentives and $106 million in guarantees according to ESPN.
Since Carter had both this upcoming season and the fifth-year option in 2027 left on his rookie deal, his contract is now essentially a six-year contract that will give the Eagles some flexibility in how they handle that new money. My guess is the cap hits will be friendlier than the initial shock value may have suggested as a result, even with Carter surpassing the $100-million guaranteed mark the Tennessee **** ans gave Jeffery Simmons earlier this month.

The video offers additional context surrounding the incident and has quickly become a major topic of conversation.
MORE: What is Tony Romo's future at CBS?
According to footage obtained by TMZ, officers pulled Romo over on Interstate 43 before questioning him about where he had been traveling.
During the interaction, Romo told officers he was leaving a golf course and was on his way to visit his grandparents. The conversation continued for several minutes as police conducted their investigation.

Mississippi is suing two former football players who transferred to LSU this offseason, alleging both failed to repay portions of their NIL compensation after leaving the program.
According to the Clarion Ledger — part of the USA TODAY Network — the Rebels filed civil complaints against defensive end Princewill Umanmielen and offensive lineman Devin Harper on Monday, July 27 in a Lafayette County Circuit Court.
The Rebels are seeking almost $1 million between the two lawsuits combined for unreceived payments —$550,000 for Umanmielen's early termination penalty and $400,000 for Harper's early termination penalty — as well as litigation fees resulting from the lawsuit.

OS ANGELES — Justin Herbert already has one major victory before the 2026 NFL season even begins.
The Los Angeles Chargers franchise quarterback announced Tuesday that he is engaged to singer-songwriter Madison Beer, sharing the news in a joint Instagram post that simply read, "Meet my fiancé."
The announcement immediately became one of the biggest off-the-field stories of the NFL offseason, drawing more than 800,000 likes within the first hour and prompting congratulatory messages from fans, teammates and even the NFL's official Instagram account.
The engagement marks the latest chapter in one of sports and entertainment's most high-profile relationships.
Herbert and Beer first sparked dating speculation in August 2025 after they were spotted together on the set of Beer's music video. Their relationship became increasingly public throughout last football season, with Beer regularly attending Chargers games at SoFi Stadium.

As expected, Micah Parsons is starting training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he continues to recover from an ACL tear.
The Green Bay Packers placed him on the PUP list Tuesday. But there was reporting Tuesday that should get Packers fans and football fans in general excited.
Per The Athletic's Packers beat writer, Matt Schneidman, the timeline points to a good chance that Parsons returns for a Week 6 showdown against his former Dallas Cowboys on "Sunday Night Football." ***** uming that both teams are playing competitive football by then, that would add up to a must-watch game for NFL fans.
Parsons tore his ACL in Week 15 on Dec. 12 last season against the Denver Broncos. He had surgery on Dec. 30. Per Schneidman, the Packers have a strict "nine-month no-football rule" after an ACL tear, which would place him back on the practice field at the earliest on Sept. 30, four days before a Week 4 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That timeline would give Parsons roughly 2 ½ weeks to ramp up for Green Bay's Oct. 18 home game against the Cowboys. And that's what Schneidman expects to happen.

As the 2026 college football season swiftly approaches, USA TODAY Sports revealed their full Big Ten stadium rankings for the 18-member conference.
While there is no true way to compose a ranking outside of a subjective nature, the Big Ten's expansive list of historic venues certainly makes its difficult to appease all fan bases.
One could lean into the capacity, historic significance, or even the overall fit on campus. That being said, Kinnick Stadium earns its proper due as one of the league's top venues.
Iowa's Kinnick Stadium ranks as the No. 5 Big Ten stadium, per USA TODAY Sports:
Iowa's 27-8 mark at home since 2021 has help the Hawkeyes maintain their place among the top programs in the Big Ten. Debuting in 2017, "The Hawkeye Wave" will have players and fans turn at the end of the opening quarter and wave to the patients at Stead Family Children's Hospital.

Virtually all German footballing media sources are currently reporting that Jesper Lindstrøm's transfer to newly promoted Bundesliga outfit FC Schalke 04 is close to being finalized. Reports from Italy and Germany now suggest that negotiations are at an advanced stage, with Lindstrøm already having reached a basic agreement with die Königsblauen.
Schalke have been working to bring the 26-year-old back to the Bundesliga following his disappointing season with relegated Wolfsburg. Napoli initially hoped to sell the Denmark international and recover part of the approximately €30 million invested in his 2023 transfer from Frankfurt.
What price Schalke will pay for the 18-times-capped international should prove interesting.
Lindstrøm's estimated market value in the Transfermarkt listings has collapsed since his successful Frankfurt spell. Valued at €28 million before leaving the Bundesliga, the winger arrived at Wolfsburg last summer with an €18 million valuation.
Following an injury-plagued campaign in which he made only four starts, Lindstrøm is now valued at €4 million—a decline of almost 78 percent in one year. The Dane made another 11 appearances off the bench, including both relegation-playoff fixtures against Paderborn.

CHICAGO (AP) — The expectations are not new for Lincoln Riley or Southern Cal. He faced them as a first-time head coach at Oklahoma before arriving at USC, and the Trojans have faced them nearly every year for generations.
Still, in Riley's five years at USC, those expectations have perhaps never been higher than they are this fall. With more than a dozen contributors returning, including star quarterback Jayden Maiava, the country's top-ranked freshman class and a handful of impact transfers, a lot of the pieces that were missing during the first few years of Riley's tenure have now fallen into place, on paper at least.
"It's what it's supposed to feel like here," Riley said Tuesday at Big Ten football media days. "I've said this multiple times: I mean, the only two places that I've been a head coach at were blue-blood schools that have the highest of expectations. Honestly, I've really not known anything different. We're a product of our own experiences. That's been mine.
"Every year, I expect to win. I expect us to win. I expect us to compete for and win championships. That doesn't change. I certainly will give you what has changed: We're more equipped than at any point in the previous few years. That's not a hope or wish, those are facts. There's a lot of facts to back that up."
Riley cited institutional alignment including NIL support and a new $200 million practice facility, the addition of new defensive coordinator and longtime TCU head coach Gary Patterson and the overall depth of talent on the roster among his reasons for optimism that he can get USC back to where it is used to being.

Discrimination remains "deeply embedded" within English football, according to the chief executive of Kick It Out, as reports of abuse surged by 25 per cent last season.

One name in fantasy football that isn't being talked about much is Carolina Panthers WR Jalen ****** er. That's mainly because of the team surrounding ****** er, but might Carolina be an offense on the rise? The Panthers have a decent young group headlined by QB Bryce Young and WR Tetairoa McMillan. As ****** er enters Year 3 in the NFL, it may be time for a breakout campaign.
Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL season
Here to discuss ****** er's outlook for the 2026 season are new Yahoo ****** ysts Josh Norris and Hayden Winks, celebrating their inaugural show for Yahoo Fantasy. The pair were joined by Yahoo Fantasy Forecast host Matt Harmon to get things started. You can look forward to more content all season long from Josh and Hayden, from the lead up to your draft through the regular season and offseason. Check out their YouTube channel here.
Harmon thinks ****** er is a great receiver and it's just taken him a bit longer to adjust to the NFL game coming from Holy Cross at the collegiate level. Harmon compares ****** er's body type to that of Chris Godwin Jr. or Jakobi Meyers. Two receivers we've seen have fantasy football success in the past five years.
Coker has only made it to 11 games in each of his two NFL seasons. Health has been an issue but he's made strides to get his body right. Last season, ****** er had 33 catches for 394 yards and three scores. While the regular season was uninspiring from a fantasy standpoint, the ****** ysts point out the playoff game vs. the Rams. ****** er had a 9-134-1 line on 12 targets against Los Angeles in the Panthers' near upset win.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Patrick Surtain II felt like he was in a maze. Quinn Meinerz was glad his truck wasn't baking in the Colorado sun.
The Denver Broncos prepared to open training camp this week from their new $175 million headquarters, which was designed with players in mind.
"Oh, this is incredible," said Meinerz, the Broncos' perennial All-Pro guard. "I'm finding new things every time. I've just stayed on the first floor. I got to park underground. When I get done with practice my truck's not going to be 150 degrees. That's a nice little thing."
The Broncos will hold their first practice of their acclimation period Wednesday in the shadows of the new state-of-the-art facility funded by owners Greg Penner and Carrie Walton Penner.
It was designed to keep players from having to exert extra energy in a superfluous manner, such as long walks to their weight room like they had to make in their old headquarters across the football fields, buildings that will be torn down after training camp next month.

The Chicago Bears opened training camp today, and with everyone reporting to Halas Hall, they made two more roster moves by placing defensive end Montez Sweat on the Active/Non-Football Illness list and safety Elijah Hicks on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
Sweat joins linebacker T.J. Edwards on the NFI list, and much like T.J., Sweat's stay isn't expected to be long. Earlier today, general manager Ryan Poles said Edwards injured his calf during offseason training and is expected back soon, calling it "nothing major." Sweat's illness is expected to keep him away for a few days.
Hicks reported some shin discomfort when reporting, so his start to camp will be delayed a bit. He joins nickelback Kyler Gordon, linebackers Keyshaun Elliott and Noah Sewell, offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo, and defensive lineman Shemar Turner on the PUP list.
Poles said Gordon spent the entire offseason at Halas Hall to make sure he was ready, but there has been a "delay" in his recovery. This latest issue is with this calf, and there is no timetable to return.

When the Rams announced that guard Justin Dedich would open training camp on the non-football injury list, they did not reveal the nature of that injury. Today they explained it.
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Justin Dedich "had a hand accident around the Fourth of July, and so that's kind of what's keeping him out for now."
McVay didn't specifically mention fireworks, but that's the obvious conclusion people will draw from a July 4 hand accident.
During Fourth of July weekend in 2015, two different NFL players lost fingers in fireworks accidents. Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul's injury caused him to miss half that season, although he had a long career after that, including being a Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion in Tampa Bay in 2020. Buccaneers cornerback C.J. Wilson also suffered a serious hand injury at Fourth of July 2015 and never played again.
There's been no word on the severity of Dedich's injury.

The Detroit Lions, who will conduct their first training camp practice of the year Wednesday, placed offensive lineman Christian Mahogany on the active/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list Tuesday, and defensive back Christian Izien was placed on the active/Non-Football Illness (NFI) list.
These designations are similar to that of the active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, which safeties Kerby Joseph (knee) and Brian Branch (Achilles), as well as tight end Tyler Conklin (undisclosed), were placed on Sunday. All five players cannot practice until being activated, but they can be activated at any time. The one difference is PUP has to do with football-related injuries. NFI is for injuries or illnesses that occurred away from the team.
Veterans reported to Allen Park on Tuesday.
It's not immediately known what exactly Mahogany and Izien are dealing with, though Lions coach Dan Campbell will likely share injury updates regarding those two, along with Joseph, Branch and Conklin, during his news conference Wednesday.
The Lions on Tuesday also released defensive tackle Jay Tufele, a veteran who was signed in April and figured to compete for opportunties as depth behind presumed starters Alim McNeill and Tyleik Williams.
