Real Madrid closed out matchday five of La Liga with a 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice against Rayo goalkeeper Emil Audero. The victory moved Real Madrid level on points with Barcelona at the top of the standings.
Mbappé opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Florian Lejeune fouled Alvaro Carreras in the area. Three minutes later, Carreras exchanged passes with Mbappé and finished to double the lead after Lejeune had lost possession under pressure from Vinícius Júnior.
Jude Bellingham made it three before the interval, converting Vinícius Júnior's cut-back after the Brazilian had driven down the left. Real Madrid therefore took a commanding three-goal advantage into half-time, with Mbappé also hitting the post late in the first half.
Rayo Vallecano reduced the deficit in the 51st minute when Sergio Camello scored after a turnover, and the visitors created further openings as they tried to work their way back into the game. Thibaut Courtois made saves during Rayo's improved second-half spell, while Pedro Díaz struck the post.
Mbappé settled the contest in stoppage time, finishing a move created by Arda Güler to make it 4-1 and complete his brace, as detailed in the original match report. The second goal took Mbappé to seven goals in six appearances in all competitions.

Jennifer Aniston's love life has long fascinated fans, but the latest insight into her relationship with Jim Curtis suggests their connection developed in a very different way than many might expect.
Rather than starting with instant romance, the pair built a foundation away from the spotlight, letting a friendship grow before taking things further.
According to Curtis, that slower path ultimately changed the way he approached love altogether.

Jim Curtis is opening about about his romance with Jennifer Aniston.
The wellness expert and hypnotherapist, 50, explained the couple's low-key beginnings in an interview with the Sunday Times Magazine published Saturday, September 12, revealing there was "a many-month friendship first" before things turned romantic.
"The drive was more natural, more organic, less needy," Curtis explained.
Curtis admitted his approach to relationships had changed by the time he connected with the Friends star, 57, after previously putting pressure on himself to find a partner.
"In the past I've felt this idea of, 'I need you to be in love with me,'" he reflected, adding that when Aniston came into his life, he wasn't "searching for love anymore."

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom, who contends he should be considered eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft as a woman, recently sued the Chicago Sky, the City of Chicago and others over an Aug. 23 incident in which he was expelled from attending a Sky-Indiana Fever game in Chicago's Wintrust Arena as a spectator after he and Sky guard Natasha Cloud exchanged words. Kanter's lawsuit isn't about whether, by saying he identifies as a woman, he satisfies the eligibility rule contained in Article XIII of the WNBA's CBA. The rule states that "only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA." The word "woman" isn't defined or clarified, meaning it's possible an athlete who was ******* igned male at birth but identifies as a woman meets the requirement.

The 2026-27 season is quickly approaching for the Philadelphia 76ers as they have their eyes on ending a long ***** le drought after the big additions made in the offseason. The Sixers will field one of the more talented rosters in the league and will look to get to the mountaintop in 2027.
It's now time to look ahead to the new season and time to break down each position for the Sixers in an effort to preview what the season might look like. Sixers Wire will look at the centers now and take a look at what the Sixers bring to the table at the position:
Sure, the Sixers have some shiny new players in Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, but all of this still comes down to the health of Joel Embiid. The big fella is still a dominant player when he can get on the floor as evidenced by his 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.9 ***** ists he averaged in 38 games in the 2025-26 season. Embiid being able to return early from an appendectomy completely changed that Round 1 series with Boston when the Sixers rallied from a 3-1 deficit. He averaged 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.0 ***** ists in Round 1 against the Celtics as he spurred the rally for Philadelphia.
When Embiid is right, there aren't many players in the league who can slow him down. He has lost a step defensively as a result of the injuries and surgeries he's had to undergo has robbed him of a lot of speed and athleticism, but Embiid is so smart and able to find new ways to be effective on defense. He is still one of the top players in the game and should be treated as such. If he's right and healthy, the Sixers take an even bigger leap forward.
The Sixers will rely on third-year big man Adem Bona as they did in the 2025-26 season. He averaged 4.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks as he was able to establish himself in coach Nick Nurse's rotation. He will have competition, though, as the Sixers did add bouncy Ariel Hukporti early in free agency. Also, in his third season, Hukporti will look to find an opportunity in Philadelphia.

Meghan Markle shared the first glimpse of her husband, Prince Harry, and their kids in the UK. Over the weekend, she posted an Instagram video featuring a domestic routine with her family. It was the first time the world peeked into the Sussexes' life in Britain since they returned. For those unversed, three weeks ago, the Duke and **** ss moved back to Harry's home country with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Meghan Markle's kids seem to enjoy their life in the UK with their mom and dad since their return. On Sunday, the "Suits" alum shared an Instagram Reel on her account, giving the world a glimpse of her family. Although the clip didn't clearly show the children's faces, it was evident that they were happy in their father's homeland.
The video began with Harry holding his wife's hand as the two walked on a wet trail. Surrounded by big green trees on both sides of the road, Markle turned around and encouraged to follow along. Next, viewers saw tiny feet of one of the kids in front of a fireplace, giving a cozy vibe. Then, the scene changed to the **** ss stomping lightly in muddy water.
Furthermore, the reel showed Princess Lilibet cycling while her brother cheered for her. Prince Archie soon ran alongside her sister, passing her and moving towards a herd of deer. Meanwhile, the kids' faces didn't appear in the clip, but their cheerful voices and body language delivered the excitement. Then, the song "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" by Wham! started in the background.
The video also showed Harry sitting on a boat with his kids and fishing. The Sussexes' dogs accompanied the family on the countryside adventure. Meanwhile, Markle added a British flag and a heart emoji on the screen throughout the Instagram reel.

LOS ANGELES -- The Phoenix Mercury visited the Los Angeles Sparks last month at the Galen Center in the University of Southern California. A lot changed from their visit before that a couple of weeks before to their game at USC.
For Kahleah Copper, a lot changed for her as well. Hours after their game against the Sparks on July 22nd, Copper was named to the All-Star team as she replaced her friend, then-Sparks guard Kelsey Plum.
About a week after All-Star weekend, Plum was traded to the Mercury and the friends were suddenly teammates.
"(Plum brought) her energy, her vibes, her leadership, her championship experience (to the team)," Copper said before their game against the Sparks at USC. "She knows what it takes to win. I'm glad to play alongside with her."
As for All-Star Weekend after expecting to get some rest?

The dollar index (DXY00) on Friday rose by +0.06%. The dollar found support as a hawkish US CPI report pushed odds of an FOMC rate hike next week up to 88% from 75% on Thursday. Also, the 10-year T-note yield on Friday rose by +0.6 bp, supporting the dollar's interest rate differentials.
Friday's -2.4% decline in oil prices initially caused the 10-year T-note yield to drop, despite the CPI report. However, the CPI report caught up with the T-note market by the end of the day, and the 10-year T-note yield ended slightly higher.

Friday's Aug US CPI report of +0.4% m/m was in line with market expectations, but the core CPI report of +0.3% m/m was slightly stronger than market expectations of +0.2% m/m. On a year-on-year basis, the Aug CPI report of +3.4% y/y was unchanged from July and was in line with market expectations. Meanwhile, the Aug core CPI report of +2.4% y/y eased slightly from July's +2.5% and posted a new 5.5-year low, and was in line with market expectations.

1420 ET – Gold futures hold steady as a pullback in oil prices helps offset the impact of an inflation report that increased expectations for a Fed interest-rate rise next week. Front-month gold settles little changed on the day in New York at $4,366.20 a troy ounce, and is down 1.4% for the week. Gold and silver remain within a range of strong support, says Peter Cardillo of Spartan Capital, and if the Fed does raise interest rates next week “it’s symbolic since the bond market had already tightened.” Silver settles up 0.4% at $64.554 a troy ounce, down 2.3% from a week ago. (anthony.harrupwsj.com)
1306 GMT – Gold prices rebounded after oil prices fell more than 2.5%, easing some inflationary concerns. Futures in New York rise 0.3% to $4,422.40 a troy ounce, but remain on track for a weekly loss. U.S. consumer prices accelerated in August, bolstering market expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates next week. According to the FedWatch tool, traders are now pricing in a nearly 87% probability that the U.S. central bank will raise interest rates next week, from around 67% earlier on Friday. Still, “while the markets appear to be placing their proverbial bets on a hike, it’s likely that members of the FOMC won’t be quite as unequivocal,” says Kyle Rodda from Capital.com. “The doves on the committee, of which there are many, are likely to argue the case that the dip in annual core inflation justifies patience.” (giulia.petroniwsj.com)

On Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, shares of electric-car maker Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) rose almost 6% to close at a record $695. More than 200 million shares changed hands that session (more than $131 billion of stock), making it one of the busiest trading days in the company's history.
The buying wasn't optional for everyone. S&P Dow Jones Indices had scheduled Tesla to join the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) at its full weight before the market opened the following Monday. And the addition was based on that Friday's closing prices. In other words, every fund tracking the index effectively paid $695.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Nearly six years later, that $10,000 would have become about $15,700. The same money in an S&P 500 index fund would have grown to about $20,500 before dividends.

SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame football's trio of backup quarterbacks entered the 2026 season with zero college snaps to their credit.
That changed Saturday, Sept. 12 against overmatched Rice, when preseason Heisman Trophy candidate CJ Carr gave way to No. 2 quarterback Noah Grubbs with the Irish leading 49-0 at the 9:22 mark of the third quarter.
Here are three things to know about Grubbs, a freshman from Lake Mary, FL.
No, he isn't. At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Grubbs' physical measurements are an exact match for fellow first-year signal caller Teddy Jarrard.
Both Carr and second-year man Blake Hebert are listed at 6-2 and right around the same weight: Carr tips the scales at 215 pounds while Hebert is listed at 216.

Lazio wasted a two-goal lead against Milan, who rallied back in the second half to rescue a draw at the Stadio Olimpico.
Matteo Cancellieri opened the scoring early on, while Tijjani Noslin ensured the Biancocelesti headed to the interval with a deserved two-goal lead. However, the momentum changed after the break, and Diego Moreira's introduction proved decisive. The Belgian scored twice between the 65th and 67th minutes to restore parity.
So, here are our player ratings for Lazio, who temporarily sit at the top of the Serie A table after picking up a solitary point against Milan.
Christos Mandas – 6
A mixed bag from the Greek, who made solid saves to deny Samuel Chukwueze and Christian Pulisic in particular, but allowed Moreira's shot to go between his legs on Milan's first goal. His poor distribution repeatedly cost Lazio possession, at times in dangerous areas.

MADRID (AP) — Formula 1 drivers enjoyed the high adrenaline produced by the Madring track at the Spanish Grand Prix while complaining about the lack of overtaking opportunities on the new circuit.
They also called for other improvements such as reducing the pit lane length. Madrid has produced a hybrid urban circuit using existing roads and purpose-built sections for its first grand prix in 45 years.
"In terms of track design I think it can be better," Red Bull's Max Verstappen said on Saturday. "Input from drivers in the future on track design can also help a lot. ... If you want to have better racing, overtaking, I think there can be a few corners that can be changed."
Verstappen added, "There's always a way to find an overtaking opportunity around a track."
There were only a few overtaking maneuvers in the first days of action at Madring across F1, F2 and the F3 series. Some commentators called Madring the Spanish Monaco.

Another season begins with the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants battling each other to start 1-0 in the NFC East race. Lately it's been the Cowboys getting the wins, especially when Dak Prescott is under center.
Things have a way of getting turned around when it comes to rivalries. Despite the Cowboys owning the matchups in the last 10 years, the Giants could be primed to make things more difficult. New York has made some significant changes this offseason that will challenge the Cowboys.
Here are three reasons to hate playing the Giants on Sunday night football to open the season.
Despite dominating the games between the two teams recently, the Cowboys need to be wary of a Giants team that's turned over their franchise to a Super Bowl winning coach. John Harbaugh arrives with a winning pedigree and a 4-1 record against the Cowboys, who have been feasting on poor coaches in New York since Tom Coughlin left.
The Giants' culture has changed with Harbaugh's arrival, and the first matchup with a new regime always brings surprises. Harbaugh's a veteran coach, but he hired Matt Nagy as his offensive coordinator, with whom he's never worked with as his OC, and Dennard Wilson is a first-time defensive coordinator. That can make for the Cowboys seeing some things they haven't seen from the Giants on both sides of the ball.

Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford met his wife, Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart, in 2002.
The couple got engaged in 2009 and tied the knot over a year later. Ford, who is a dad to four children from his two previous marriages, also adopted Flockhart's son, Liam.
They've been supporting each other's careers over the years, with color-coordinated red carpet appearances and sweet shoutouts in acceptance speeches.
Back in 2002, Harrison Ford wasn't on Calista Flockhart's radar. "I remember loving him on Mosquito Coast, but I really didn't think about him," the actress said of Ford at the time. But that all changed after they met at the 59th Golden Globes with a meet-cute straight out of a '90s rom-com. Ford officially caught Flockhart's attention when he accidentally spilled wine on her dress mid-conversation. The comical moment apparently sealed the deal for Flockhart, and the two began dating from that point on.
"I'm in love. Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love, and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life," Ford said in a 2003 interview, a year after meeting Flockhart. "I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn't surprised that I did."

Pakistan great Wasim Akram has expressed frustration over the country's continued struggles in Test cricket, arguing that the lack of quality batting talent emerging through the system has become a major concern.
Speaking to the media in Lahore on Friday, the former fast bowler said Pakistan's home-and-away Test series defeat to Bangladesh should have prompted the authorities to take immediate corrective measures. Instead, he felt little changed after what should have been a warning sign.
Akram pointed towards the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which has been running for a decade, and questioned whether the tournament had produced any significant batting talent for the national team.
"It has been 10 years since the PSL started, but has a single batter been produced by the PSL? Yes we have produced a few bowlers but tell me have we produced any noteworthy batting talent," he questioned.
Akram also highlighted the emergence of a 15-year-old batting talent in neighbouring India, an apparent reference to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, as an example of the kind of player Pakistan needs to produce.
"I think when we produce a batting talent like the 14-year old then we will see improvement coming through," Akram said.
While he felt Pakistan remained competitive in white-ball cricket, the former pacer was far less optimistic about the team's position in the longer format, describing the state of Test cricket as "bad".
Akram also played down the importance of who takes charge as Pakistan's coach, saying that whether the PCB appoints him or Gary Kirsten, the fundamental challenge would remain because the coach would still be working with the same pool of players.
Rather than repeatedly changing personnel, Akram called for the PCB's domestic structure to be given time to produce results. He believes the system should be allowed to operate for three to four years, with patience and long-term planning essential to any improvement.
Akram admitted that he was just as disappointed as any other Pakistani by the team's recent performances.
"Club cricket needs to be revived if we want improvement in red ball cricket. The PCB should spend 100 million rupees each in Karachi and Lahore, as talent comes from club cricket."
He also called for greater consistency in the national side, pointing out that Pakistan have continued to rotate players without addressing the underlying problems.
He said there should be consistency in the team, but the players remain the same -- they just keep coming and going.
Pakistan's ongoing Test series in England also came under scrutiny, with Akram criticising the team's approach against the home bowlers.
"In England in the ongoing series they didn't move their front foot forward, playing bowlers like Ollie Robinson while standing rooted in the crease. You need to play with courage, but for that, talent is essential."

Liverpool have made a lot of changes to their squad this summer.
Some players such as Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones have been moved on, while others, such as Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet have been brought in.
It's not just their playing staff what have changed either with a decent chunk of the Reds' backroom staff also being re-jigged.
Richard Hughes is now Al-Hilal's sporting director and Michael Edwards just decided to quit after Fenway Sports Group's multi-club model was thrown in the bin.
Even though all these changes have been made, it still feels like more needs to be done before Liverpool are ready to be seen as genuine contenders for the Premier League ******* le again.

NEW DELHI: Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shared a fun moment after East Zone's memorable Duleep Trophy 2026/27 triumph. Kishan, who captained East Zone in the final against South Zone, had a light-hearted exchange with his 15-year-old deputy over who should get the credit for the successful DRS calls during the match.
Kishan had a memorable final, scoring more than 350 runs across the two innings, including a stunning 270 in the first innings, and was named Player of the Match.
Kishan jokingly claimed that Sooryavanshi had taken all the credit for the DRS calls, even though the captain was the one who was initially going to take the reviews.
"Yeh sab review mein credit le hi liya hai har jagah. Bhale main lene waala tha review, but aake mast bol deta tha main aapke paas aa jaata hu. Phir toh internet will be like: Vaibhav! My goodness! Vaibhav is the one! Toh bohot acche se isne woh kaarya nibhaya hai. (I am very happy (He has taken all the credit for the review everywhere. Even though I was about to take the review, he would come and say it so confidently, 'I'll come to you'. Then the internet will be like: Vaibhav!)," Kishan said in a video posted on BCCI's social media handle.
Sooryavanshi was quick with his reply.
"Aur jab field ke bahar jaa rahe the tab kon le raha tha review? Yeh bhi toh bata dijiye! (When we were going off the field, who was taking the reviews then? Tell us that too!)"
Kishan then praised the teenager's leadership qualities and suggested that Sooryavanshi could have a bright future as a captain.
"Haan, that was Vaibhav himself! Yes. Future captain, maybe? Let's see how it goes. But it's very good to have him in the team because more than a very good player, he's a very nice boy who takes care of each and every one in the team, whether it's a junior player or senior."
Kishan then jokingly corrected himself when talking about Sooryavanshi being a junior.
"Achha, junior toh tu hi hua (Oh, you are not a junior anymore now), sorry, sorry. That is one quality which I love about him. Hopefully, he'll be more dangerous than what he is today.
"I think it's not going to be his first or the last. I think he's gonna play many more like this, and he'll keep performing the way he's doing right now," he stated.
Sooryavanshi also spoke about the fun atmosphere in the East Zone camp and praised Kishan for his outstanding batting performance in the final.
"The way we were off the field and the way we were enjoying inside, it was a lot of fun. The way he batted in the final, it was unbelievable. I can't say anything much about it.
"I think the match changed from there and as a captain, a lot of people have been watching and playing under him for a long time. It was a lot of fun to play in his captaincy. We enjoyed a lot."
Kishan ended the exchange by stressing the importance of enjoying the game as a team.

Less than 24 hours away from Purdue's week two game against Wake Forest it's time for a final look back at Purdue's week 1 game against Indiana State. This week I asked you all to tell me if Purdue's performance against the Sycamores changed your expectations for the rest of the season. It seemed like a good thing to ask given that I had already asked all of you how you graded Purdue's week 1 performance. The results were not great if you're Purdue.
As you can see the majority of respondents graded Purdue at a C. That's not what you want out of week 1 when you're playing a cupcake. So given that C grade I was curious if that changed expectations up or down. Of course. there was also the option for no change. So, let's take a look at the results.
A whopping 76% of respondents didn't change their expectations after week 1 which honestly seems very reasonable, rationale, and not at all okay for this current internet age. Those 76% are the well adjusted respondents. 22% revised their expectations down and those are the people who likely graded Purdue much lower than a C. Honestly, I don't blame them. Then, there are the true sickos. 2% of respondents actually raised their expectations after week 1. I can only ******* ume Fame Ejiobe blew them away and their are pushing all their chips in on him. This time tomorrow we will have a much better idea of who this Purdue team is.
If you'd like to place a wager on tomorrow's Purdue vs. Wake Forest game the line is currently Purdue +2.5 and the O/U in 49.5 from our friends at FanDuel. If you're going to gamble please do so responsibly and don't gamble money that you aren't prepared to lose. Stay safe my friends.

Showing off his jewelry to Jared McCain, Aday Mara is hoping to add more championship rings in the future. Reading the room across the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder realized they needed serious size in the frontcourt to keep up.
You come to that realization when you see Victor Wembanyama beat you in the 2026 Western Conference Finals. The 22-year-old has arrived. He'll keep the San Antonio Spurs in the ***** le picture for the foreseeable future. Which directly conflicts with the Thunder and their ambitions.
In comes Mara. The Thunder drafted the 7-foot-3 giant with the No. 12 pick of the 2026 NBA draft. They hope he can strengthen their frontcourt depth for the foreseeable future and possibly be Chet Holmgren's running mate for the rest of the contending window.
Before we find out the answers to those valuable questions, though, Mara earned some well-deserved reflection on his collegiate journey. He showed off his rings on a recent social media post. After two so-so years at UCLA, his decision to transfer to Michigan completely changed his life for the better. He helped the Wolverines capture the 2026 national championship.
Michigan went a dominant 37-3 in the 2025-26 season. Mara's breakout helped with that. It had a three-headed frontcourt monster — alongside Yaxel Lendeborg and Morez Johnson Jr. All three went in the lottery range of the 2026 NBA draft. And head coach Dusty Mays joined the Dallas Mavericks in a rare college-to-NBA job promotion.

Mark Wahlberg is reflecting on one of the most haunting "what ifs" of his on the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The actor was almost one of the people aboard the plane that crashed into the World Trade Center's North Tower.
Mark was almost aboard the Flight 11 (@ Getty)
The Father Stu star was originally booked on American Airlines Flight 11, which was headed to Los Angeles, but ultimately hijacked on September 11, 2001. Wahlberg had changed his plans and traveled to Toronto instead, narrowly avoiding a flight that killed all 92 people aboard.
On Friday, he shared an Instagram video of an American flag blowing in the wind, writing in the caption, "This anniversary is always a gut punch of emotions…words just can't say it all."
That near miss has followed Wahlberg for years, particularly after comments he made in a 2012 Men's Journal interview sparked backlash. When he was asked what might have happened if he had been on the plane with his children, Wahlberg said, "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin" and suggested he would have been able to help land the plane safely.

A twist of fate saved Mark Wahlberg's life on September 11, 2001.
Wahlberg, 55, had been booked on American Airlines Flight 11, the plane that was hijacked and crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, but changed his travel plans before that morning, according to a Daily Mail report published Friday, September 11. Instead of making the trip from Boston to Los Angeles, the By Any Means actor traveled to Toronto after a friend invited him to see his film at the Toronto International Film Festival.
All 92 people aboard Flight 11 were killed after five hijackers took control of the plane and crashed it into the North Tower at 8:46 a.m.
On the 25th anniversary of the attacks, Wahlberg acknowledged the emotions that still surround the day.
"This anniversary is always a gut punch of emotions…words just can't say it all. #neverforget911🇺🇸🗽 #freedomisntfree🇺🇸 ," he wrote on Instagram alongside a video of an American flag.

CANNONSBURG After ninety minutes of intense, goalless soccer, Boyd County coach Levi Pennington still needed five guys for an energized ending.
Ashland and the Lions battled to nil-nil after two halves and two overtime periods. Each player on the pitch had done their part to empower their team, but work remained to determine a victor.
Bracken Peters sent the closing delivery inside the left post and supplied the final point in kicks from the mark for a 1-0 victory over the Tomcats in a 63rd District seeding match Thursday.
"(Thursday night), the (shootout) lineup changed based on how the game was going," Boyd County coach Levi Pennington said, "with body language and players. I felt like some of our guys were more gassed than normal. I pushed them a little further down the list and let their legs get back under them. I told them it's nothing against you, but it's next man up right now."
Ashland's freshman keeper, Karson Freeman, denied Boyd County's first attempt to help the Tomcats grab a quick advantage in the shootout. The visitors' second try clanged off the crossbar, and Zeke Withrow calmly blasted the next shot through to the twine to tie the session.
