The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2026 NFL season as one of the league's most interesting teams. They failed to even make the playoffs last season, but after a great offseason, many have the belief that the team can end their 30-year drought to win the Super Bowl this season.
Last season, the Cowboys' offence was exciting and forced many to believe it was among the best in the league.
This was due to Dak Prescott, George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb leading the way on the offense. However, their defence was equally bad, conceding 30.1 points per game.
Owner Jerry Jones promised to revamp the defence, and as part of that, the likes of Quinnen Williams, Rashan Gary, and Von Miller were brought to the team. They also drafted Ohio State player Caleb Downs, and with these additions, many believed the Cowboys could be contenders.
However, Skip Bayless is not one of them, and he has his reason as to why.

LeBron James has spent more than two decades setting records that once looked out of reach. Yet former NBA center Olden Polynice believes one of the game's rare statistical feats should have belonged to James long before Russell Westbrook made it his own.
Polynice is not questioning James' greatness. His argument is almost the opposite. He believes James had so much size and all-around ability that failing to post a full-season triple-double stands out as a strange omission from an otherwise historic career.
Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Polynice said James should have reached the milestone before Westbrook ever did. He pointed to James' unusual combination of strength, skill and playmaking as the reason.

"I love LeBron. I really do. I think he's one of the greatest ever. Ever," Polynice said. "What he's doing right now we've never seen before. And I won't even get into the off the court. He's by himself over there."

This Friday evening, Fiorentina traveled to Venice for the fourth Serie A matchday after suffering nothing but defeats at the start of the season.
This time, La Viola could count on one of their new signings to carry them to victory.
On loan from Real Madrid, Franco Mastantuono grabbed a stunning hat-trick, including two goals in the ***** e of a single minute (29th, 30th, 84th).
These were the very first Serie A goals for the 19-year-old Argentine, who had been signed by Real from River Plate for 45 million euros in the summer of 2025.

The Browns may have to make a change to their planned offensive line for Sunday's opener in Jacksonville.
Right guard Teven Jenkins missed Thursday's practice with a back injury. Jenkins, who played in every game and made four starts for Cleveland last season, was listed as limited after leaving Wednesday's practice early.
If Jenkins can't play, third-round pick Austin Barber will be in line to get the start against the Jaguars.
The Browns' injury report was otherwise unchanged from Wednesday. Center Parker Brailsford (thumb) and defensive tackle Maliek Collins (quad) were limited participants while linebacker Carson Schwesinger (shoulder) was a full participant for the second straight day.

DAZN referee expert Luca Marelli has offered his **** sment on a series of controversial refereeing calls that overshadowed Inter's thrilling 3-2 comeback victory against Napoli on Saturday evening.
Referee Simone Sozza found himself at the center of several heated moments at the San Siro and Inter players were left furious when Napoli's Stanislav Lobotka appeared to handle the ball during a challenge with Nicolò Barella inside the penalty box. Play was allowed to continue without a VAR intervention, leading directly to Matteo Politano's opener for the visitors on the counter-attack.
MILAN, ITALY – SEPTEMBER 05: Matteo Politano of Napoli celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the Serie A match between FC Internazionale and SSC Napoli at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on September 05, 2026 in Milan, Italy. (Photo by Claudio Villa/Getty Images)
Reviewing the incident on DAZN, with quotes via Sportal, Marelli admitted the footage remained inconclusive: "There are many doubts. It is impossible to tell for sure whether there was contact, even though his arm was extended. Looking at all the available footage, you simply cannot determine if he touches it with his hand or not."
The officiating remained under the spotlight late into the second half. In the 82nd minute, Marcus Thuram headed home Inter's equaliser while Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani lay grounded directly in front of goalkeeper Alex Meret. Sozza allowed the goal to stand, deeming that Rrahmani had gone down too softly rather than as the result of a foul by an opposition player.

Real Madrid made many Castilla sales over the course of the summer transfer window, with the academy emerging as a major source of income for the club.
The sales, in turn, allowed Los Blancos to invest that money towards improving the first-team squad at Jose Mourinho's disposal.
Florentino Perez brought in as many as six players in the market for the first team, with Yan Diomande emerging as their record acquisition.
Now, according to AS, one Castilla player who chose patience over an early exit from the club was 19-year-old Joan Martinez.
The central defender had several offers to leave the club this summer but decided to stay with Castilla and push for a first-team berth.

Fabrizio Romano has advised Liverpool fans to 'stay tuned' for the possibility of a 'surprising' transfer to Anfield in the final three days of the summer transfer window.
The Reds are reportedly on the verge of completing the marquee addition of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal which could reach £123m, but it seems increasingly likely that Cody Gakpo may be on his way out of Merseyside amid a prospective bid from Manchester City.
Even if those two transfers materialise, it appears that Richard Hughes could seek to bring in one more winger before the Tuesday night deadline.
Romano posted an update on his eponymous YouTube channel on Sunday morning in which he indicated that Liverpool haven't given up on a potential last-minute swoop for Ismaila Sarr and could yet pivot to a different option in the next 48 hours.
He explained: "For Liverpool fans, we have to understand who's going to be the replacement. It could be at any moment so stay tuned. It could be in the next hours.

The 45-year-old 20-time Grand Slam singles champion was frequently overcome with emotion as he addressed a crowd bristling with tennis royalty at a ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island.
The Swiss legend, who retired from tennis in 2022, paid tribute to the opponents, officials, fans, family and friends who had shared his career during a lengthy address that unfolded as a love letter to the sport.
"This is one of the greatest honors of my life," Federer said. "They call this the Hall of Fame, but fame was never the goal.
"My goal was to spend my life doing something I love... with people who I love it as much as I do."

We are so back.
The 2026 college football season begins in earnest on Saturday with eight FBS games as part of the Week 0 slate. Headlining that schedule is the highly anticipated rematch between UNC and TCU as Bill Belichick's second season in Chapel Hill begins. He'll hope it starts better than the first, when the Horned Frogs dominated the Tar Heels on their home field.
That's only the tip of the iceberg, though. Saturday's Week 0 slate also features an early ACC showdown between NC State and Virginia, North Dakota State's first FBS game against a top Conference USA contender in Jacksonville State and a nightcap that could prove to be one of the most impactful games in the Group of Six all season as two CFP hopefuls, UNLV and Memphis, face off in Sin City.
Here at College Sports Wire, we'll keep you apprised of all the news, highlights and wild moments from Week 0 of the college football season.
Check back later for live updates from Saturday's Week 0 games.

Special thanks to Tristan Holmes, Addicted to Quack's Oregon football film reviewer, and Thomas Cicansky, my partner in this year's Big Ten preview series, for joining me on this week's podcast to discuss the Ducks' roster:
View Link
Oregon's offensive coordinator for the last three seasons, Will Stein, departed to take the head coaching job at Kentucky, he's replaced by OC Mehringer who's been the TE coach since Coach Lanning took over the program in 2022. Mehringer's only direct playcalling experience was a decade ago at Rutgers when he was of the youngest in college football history to do so, I didn't find much value on investigating it. Since then my reading of Mehringer's roles at Texas, FAU, and New Mexico has been as a strategist and gameplanner; there's quite a bit of oblique praise from head coaches and OCs in the literature over this time for his role in gameweek preparations, but no evidence about his down-to-down playcalling preferences.
It's also difficult to disentangle some of the idiosyncracies ATQ film reviewers have noted in Stein's playcalling over the last three years — positive notes on counter-programming defensive substitution rules, negative ones on forgoing "money down" opportunities for deep shots and an ***** ytically unsupportable habit for perimeter screens — from Mehriner's potential influence, since their time at Oregon overlaps. It's possible that some, none, or all of those qualities were unique to Stein and he takes them with him to Lexington. ATQ devoted considerable effort this offseason determining if any statistically valid ***** ysis could be performed to quantify Mehringer's effects on play sequencing or outcomes at Oregon or previous stops, and we concluded that nothing we could publish would meet our standards – there are just too many variables involved. We're just going to have to wait and see how Mehringer calls the game.
Otherwise, my expectation is continuity for the Ducks offense, and if anything a return to historical trends after a one-off dip in certain metrics from charting caused by an offensive line quirk in 2025 which it looks like the squad has firmly put behind them in 2026 and beyond. The coaching staff under Lanning all returns, as does starter #5 QB Dante Moore, five of the top eight skill producers on offense in addition to a key 2024 receiver coming back from injury, and the top talent pipeline in the conference:

Dominik Livaković is set to sign for FC Barcelona, although it's still not clear whether he'll play for the Catalans this season or join Dinamo Zagreb on loan.
Barcelona already have Wojciech Szczęsny and Joan Garcia as goalkeepers, and there are rumors that they wanted to loan Livaković for a season while Szczęsny remains as backup to Garcia. However, competing whispers say that he could stay with Barça as Garcia's backup without going on loan first.
"I'm very happy to be here," the keeper said, having landed in Barcelona. When asked whether he would stay or go out on loan, he simply said, "we'll see."
The main deciding factor is reportedly whether Barça will have enough **** e within the FIFA Fair Play salary limit. If there's room, he'll stay, if not, he'll go out on loan and re-join in a year.
The keeper comes from Fenerbahçe, it's understood Barcelona will pay four million euro to sign him from the Turkish giants.

Xabi Alonso came to Craven Cottage hoping for another Premier League first. Twenty-two years earlier, he bagged his first English top-flight goal for Liverpool. Against a former Reds team-mate striving for the same goal in Alvaro Arbeloa, he made another happy memory on his managerial bow.
Most pictured his return to England to come with Liverpool; Chelsea fans already seem grateful he's landed in London. While far from the perfect performance, victory in a five-goal thriller against Fulham brought a lot of encouragement.
A mixture of big spending and summer snubs seems to have forged one of the most dangerous attacking front threes in the league. Morgan Rogers showed signs he was worthy of his £117m price tag. Cole Palmer, with a point to prove after his World Cup omission, suddenly looked like a real problem again after what was, by his standards, a dud of a season. His link-up with Joao Pedro took effect within 31 seconds.
Chelsea's front three stole the show against Fulham (Reuters)
"They are going to be a very important part of the team," recognised Alonso, who now wants the trio's team-mates to reach the level they exhibited on Monday night. "To build [the team] around them, no. To build the team with them. They need to take responsibility, they need to lead the rest, they need to inspire the rest, because if they do great, the other ones will follow.

LEXINGTON – It took three weeks longer than expected to complete the 93rd News Journal Tennis Tournament, but once action resumed Jake Chilcote – or should we say, Mr. Tiebreaker – simply picked up where he left off.
He beat former Lexington High School teammate and 2024 champ Ethan Remy 6-1, 1-6, 10-8 for the men's singles ***** le Saturday at Lakewood Racquet Club.
Since Nicky Wong capped his four-year reign in 2022, there have been four different champions over the last four years. There was Justin Csepe in 2023, Remy in 2024 and Dylan Catanese in 2025, paving the way for Chilcote's run to the championship this summer.
No one can say he didn't earn it.
Chilcote's last three wins in the tournament were all decided by 10-point tiebreakers. He went the distance – first to 10 points by two in a decisive mini-set – to beat former champ Alex "Bones" McCann in the quarterfinals and again in the semis against 2024 finalist Cooper Remy, Ethan's younger brother.

Philadelphia Eagles have made a major roster change by waiving wide receiver Johnny Wilson with an injury designation ahead of their preseason game against the New England Patriots.
Wilson was picked by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The 25-year-old appeared in 16 games during his rookie season, catching five of 15 targets for 38 yards and one touchdown.
However, he missed the entire 2025 season after suffering a torn ACL during training camp which also became one of the major reasons of his release.

Alongside waiving Wilson, Philadelphia signed centre Zeke Correll and wide receiver Brandon Hayes while cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields was also placed on the Injured Reserve list.

Liverpool are expected to complete a massive, potentially record-breaking deal in the coming days. What a move this is.
Liverpool are running out of time to do it but they simply have to get something special over the line. The Reds are coming off a poor season, after all, but have actually made the squad worse going forward.
Mohamed Salah is out, taking 12 goals and ****** ists with him. They've brought in Victor Munoz, of course, but reaching those numbers would be a personal best for him - and still only get Liverpool back to where they were.
What's important, then, is finding a winger who can deliver elite numbers and Liverpool do feel they've found one in Bradley Barcola. The question has always been whether they can agree on terms with Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG want enormous money for the winger, even if they're open to selling. Liverpool want to pay as little as possible, of course, but know they'll be into nine figures when it's all said and done.

A key part of the Tennessee baseball lineup will miss this fall, according to a VolQuest report on Tuesday morning. Blaine Brown, who will be heading into his second season in Knoxville, underwent Elbow surgery on his left-handed pitching arm. Brown is not expected to pitch in 2027 for Tennessee.
The injury occurred while Brown was playing in the Cape Cod league.
Brown is expected to be good to go for the 2027 season, but could be limited to a designated hitter role to begin the year. The transfer from Rice was inconsistent for the Volunteers last season, but the talent is obvious. It's a huge year for Brown, who is heading into MLB Draft eligibility next summer.
After flashing quite a bit early last season, Brown slumped through the midseason. The 6-5, 200 pounder ended up hitting .240 on the year, hitting 13 home runs and driving in 42 runs. Brown also struck out 53 times.
Brown made just four appearances on the mound for Tennessee, starting a handful of midweek games. He's expected to eventually return to the Tennessee outfield once he's healthy again, where he'll be looking to to capitalize on all of that potential we've already seen.

The Buffalo Bills are only about a week into their new $2.1 billion stadium era and it's safe to say things have not gone over as they hoped.
First, fans quickly noticed that there were unexpected obstructed-view seats at an early August practice. The obstructed views went viral on social media, with the Bills eventually responding that they're addressing the feedback and that less than 1 percent of personal seat license holders had raised concerns about the sightlines.
Then, when players took the field at new Highmark Stadium over the weekend when the Bills took on the Carolina Panthers, an anonymous Bills player called out the new grass. While Bills linebacker Dorian Williams thought the grass field was cool and was better than turf, it "kind of chunked up a little bit."
It's still early for new Highmark Stadium, but Bills president Pete Guelli spoke on Monday to the ******* ociated Press about the concerns related to the grass. During the preseason game over the weekend, an official had to stop the play clock to replace a divot in the grass while certain parts of the field looked noticeably brown during play. After the game, the grounds crew re-seeded parts of the field as well.
"From a playability and safety perspective, everybody's very happy," Guelli said, via the ******* ociated Press. "It's Year 1. So it's a brand new field and it's going to take time for the foundation to build up. So some of the things people saw in the game, those will dissipate over time."

Little by little, Brazilian fans are getting used to the countdown for goal kicks and throw-ins, the requirement for a player who received treatment to leave the field, and the ban on covering the mouth during discussions.
In the first weekend of the Brasileirão with the new rules, some of them already had to be enforced.
Neymar off the field after treatment for Brazão
In Santos' win over Vasco, the match was still 0-0 when Santos goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão asked for medical treatment after colliding with Andrés Gómez.
Under the new rule, since the goalkeeper cannot leave the field, either a player is chosen by the coach to stay out of the game for one minute, or the captain will be the one to step off.
