The acclaimed author has been vocal about the changes she's experienced since her 21-month-old son died following a medical emergency. After sharing a social media post alleging medical negligence by the hospital over her son's care in June, she's expounding on how losing her son has prompted her to have a different feeling towards her homeland.
"My feelings toward Nigeria have changed," Adichie told The New York Times in a recent interview. When asked if the country still felt like somewhere close to her heart, she offered an even more blunt response.
"I do not want to go back to Nigeria."

For the third consecutive week, at least one player from the Weatherford College volleyball team has earned Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
Mirabel Onyegwu was named the NTJCAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Alena Lopez earned the Defensive Player of the Week award.
Onyegwu and Lopez are the third and fourth Coyotes to earn the honor this season, joining teammates Glorybell Puente (defensive, Week 1) and Beline Thibaut (offensive, Weeks 1 and 2).

RABAT, Morocco (AP) — Cameroon faces tournament debutant Malawi in the final of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, when one of the teams will win the trophy for the first time.
Cameroon, which missed the last edition, defeated host nation Morocco on penalties in the semifinals, where Malawi overcame Algeria thanks to starring performances from the Chawinga sisters, Tabitha and Temwa.
They both scored in the 3-1 win against Algeria and together have scored nine of Malawi's 12 goals in the tournament.
Cameroon is making its fourth appearance in the final after losing three – all to 10-time winner Nigeria.

Coventry City have agreed a deal worth about £17m for Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Sky Blues are expected to complete the deal before their Premier League return against ******* nal on Friday.

The Portland Fire have signed Amy Okonkwo to a standard WNBA contract as an injury replacement, in the wake of Sarah Ashlee Barker missing the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. ILORIN, Kwara (AP) — Some of the 163 kidnapped Nigerians rescued from jihadi captivity have spoken of the suffering and fear they lived in for six months.
The freed captives, mostly women and children, were among over 300 kidnap victims freed by Nigerian forces this week.
They were handed over to the authorities by security forces in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, on Friday for medical attention and routine checks, and were anticipating their return home to reunite with their families.
Mary Ishaya recalled days without food, and being asked alongside others to bury other hostages who died in captivity.
The 44-year-old, who had never touched a dead body or buried one before, said: "I still cannot find the right words to describe what has happened to us. We saw death and suffering."

When Fatmata Janneh went on her official visit Lady Vols basketball in April, Isoken Uzamere had already committed to be an ***** istant coach for the Nigerian national team, which was preparing to play in three preseason WNBA games.
But Uzamere, who was hired to Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell's staff only weeks before, wasn't missing the chance to help recruit the Texas A&M transfer. So, she took a red-eye flight from the Nigerian team camp in San Diego to get back to Knoxville in time.
Janneh committed two days later.
"I mean, off her doing that, I knew I was committing," Janneh said Aug. 3. "Because from then, just seeing how much they were willing to invest in me – she was willing to not be with the Nigerian national team and come back just for me. I was like, 'Oh yeah, they're willing to ride for me. They're going to do anything that they can for me to come here.' And I just needed that."
