NEW YORK, July 30 (Reuters) - Coinbase won the dismissal on Thursday of much of a lawsuit in which customers accused the largest U.S. ‌cryptocurrency exchange of illegally selling securities without registering as an exchange or ‌broker-dealer.
Customers sued over 60 tokens, including XRP and dogecoin, that they claimed were unregistered securities, seeking unspecified damages in the proposed class action.
• U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer in Manhattan dismissed all claims based on "matched" transactions where Coinbase paired customers' buy and sell orders. These accounted for an estimated 99.97% of trading volume, equal to hundreds of billions of dollars.
• The judge also said ‌customers may pursue claims over "inventory" transactions, where Coinbase fills orders from tokens it owns. These accounted for the remaining trading volume, comprising at least $178 million in sales.

Few foods were as well-positioned as jerky to take advantage of the recent wave of interest in protein-rich foods. And few companies in that industry have seen a spike in sales like Jack Link's jerky.
But despite the company's current market leadership position (brick-and-mortar retail sales reportedly topped $1.6 billion in 2025), it once was struggling to find direction after filing for bankruptcy.

Wondering how to get cheap life insurance? It may be easier than you think. A new study by LIMRA found that adults under age 30 overestimate the cost of life insurance by 10 to 12 times more than it actually costs.
The reality is, some healthy adults could get affordable life insurance for about what they'd spend on a streaming subscription each month. The trick lies in buying coverage while you're young, choosing term life insurance over permanent coverage when appropriate, and comparing quotes from several insurers before making a decision.
For most people, cheap life insurance comes down to a policy you can comfortably afford. And the amount you can comfortably afford might look different from your friend, coworker, or neighbor.
Affordable life insurance also comes down to you getting a good price for the coverage you actually need. For example, a $500,000 policy will almost always cost less than a $1 million policy. But if your family would need far more than $500,000 to replace your income, pay off a mortgage, or cover future expenses, choosing the lowest premium could leave them financially vulnerable.

Blackstone Inc. (NYSE:BX) just posted one of its stronger quarters in years. Profit available to shareholders jumped 26% to $1.52 a share, beating estimates that were clustered around $1.33 to $1.35. Total ******* ets under management grew 11% to $1.35 trillion, and revenue jumped 36% to $5.04 billion. Nine of the firm's ten best-performing investments right now are tied to artificial intelligence. Yet Blackstone's stock is down about 20% so far this year as of July 23, roughly in line with its peers.
Part of the answer is that not every number was strong. Base management fees, one of the metrics ******* ysts watch most closely, came in lighter than expected. The private credit business, which lends money to companies rather than owning them outright, had its second straight quarter of falling profit, down 6% to $373 million. That business also saw its flagship retail fund pull in just $1 billion from wealthy individual investors this quarter, down sharply from $1.9 billion last quarter and $3.7 billion a year ago, as some retail investors grew nervous about private credit generally and pulled money out. President Jon Gray of Blackstone said withdrawal requests have "slowed materially" so far in the current quarter, which is a positive sign, but the pullback itself was real.
This makes you wonder: Is Blackstone Inc. (NYSE: BX)'s AI-driven growth fast enough to keep the whole firm doing well even when other parts are struggling, or is the market right to be cautious?
Blackstone's AI bet goes back to 2021, when it took data center operator QTS private for $10 billion. This quarter, it struck new deals tied to Google's AI chips, Broadcom chip financing, and Anthropic compute, and sold a data center portfolio for $8 billion and a battery storage company for $7 billion. Infrastructure financing is a real fee engine now too, a record $321 million in transaction fees this quarter, nearly double last year. Gray argues Blackstone Inc. (NYSE:BX) deserves a higher valuation than it gets: almost no debt, a dividend yield near 4%, and tech-like growth at a discount to tech multiples. Data center leasing has scaled from 1 gigawatt in 2024 to 2 in 2025 to a pace of at least 7 this year, built on signed contracts with creditworthy clients rather than speculative building. The firm is also expanding abroad, joining a $16 billion Kuwait pipeline deal and planning a new Dubai office.

Zuckerberg's net worth dropped $25B to $209B as Meta's AI ambitions drove net income down 14% and nearly eliminated free cash flow.
META commits $130-145B in 2026 capex chasing AI leaders it trails, with much of that spending cycling back to NVDA for chip purchases.
Don't wait: the ***** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just revealed his top 10 AI stocks. See the full list FREE now.
As Mark Zuckerberg keeps steering Meta (NASDAQ: META) in the wrong direction, his net worth keeps falling. It is down $25 billion this year and is still dropping, to $209 billion. That puts him barely ahead of Michael Dell, who is at $204 billion.
Zuckerberg can blame the entire drop on his decision to march Meta into AI competition with companies that include OpenAI, Anthropic, and Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG), which are well ahead. Based on all evidence, Meta won't catch up. Its earnings made it clear he continues to double down on AI anyway. That showed up in earnings.

CHICAGO (AP) — A former Illinois sheriff's deputy won't get an early medical release from his two-decade prison sentence for killing Sonya Massey inside her home after the Black woman called 911 about a possible prowler, state officials decided Friday.
Sean Grayson had been diagnosed with colon cancer prior to the 2024 shooting, and his attorney noted in January that the cancer had advanced to his liver and lungs.
The three-member Illinois Prisoner Review Board voted unanimously Friday to deny Grayson's application for early medical release, Liz Mitchell, a board spokesperson, said in an email.
Grayson, who is white, was convicted in October of second-degree murder for Massey's killing, a case that sparked protests over systemic racism and a U.S. Department of Justice review.
Body camera footage showed Grayson and another deputy enter Massey's home in Springfield, Illinois. Minutes later, Grayson shot the 36-year-old single mother in the face as she moved a pot of hot water from the stove and told him, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus."

ATHENS/MADRID, July 31 (Reuters) - Greece battled wildfires on Friday on multiple fronts, from the outskirts of Athens to the central part of the country and on the island of Crete, while France and Spain won some respite after bringing major blazes under control.
Europe has been ravaged by wildfires ‌this summer after successive record-breaking heatwaves, leaving vast stretches of drought-parched vegetation primed to burn, and forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.
Residents of two communities ‌west of Athens were advised to evacuate as a precaution as smoke billowed from densely wooded hills surrounding the Greek capital, with authorities scrambling a formation of water-bombing aircraft to extinguish the blaze.
In Boeotia, north-west of Athens, hundreds of residents and visitors were evacuated from a small coastal community aboard coast guard boats and fishing vessels as thick orange smoke blanketed the area.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Friday that his $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund is "dead" while also continuing to defend it, further complicating his administration's negotiations with two Republican senators who are blocking his attorney general nominee in protest.
Trump told reporters at Camp David on Friday morning that administration officials had "agreed not to have a fund" that compensates his political allies, yet made clear that he disagrees with that decision.
The comments came hours after an early morning social media post in which Trump said people who had been prosecuted by the Justice Department — many of them for their involvement in the violent Jan. 6, 2001, attack on the Capitol — "are suffering still, many ruined, and I felt that they should be given compensation for what has been done to them."
Trump's reluctant declaration that the fund won't be created came as Republican Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, both members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, say they won't support Todd Blanche's nomination for attorney general until they see that promise in writing. They have been working for weeks with the White House and Blanche, who is now the acting attorney general, to produce a document to that effect, but both senators have said they aren't satisfied so far.
"The President made it clear today that the so-called Anti Weaponization Fund is still alive, which is exactly why we are attempting to formally end it," Tillis said after Trump's initial social media post.

The New England Patriots wrapped up Day 6 of training camp practice on Friday with another impressive showing by the offense.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and company won the day through the air, even managing to finally push the ball downfield at points. It was an impressive showing when throwing into the teeth of one of the best secondary units in the NFL.
The ongoing training camp battles between star receiver A.J. Brown and cornerback Christian Gonzalez also continued to heat up on the field. In only two practices in pads, it's clear that the Patriots' offense has taken another step ahead of the 2026 season. Only time will tell how far that takes them.
Here were the eight standouts from Day 6:
It's crazy how quickly things can change. It was only a few days ago that people were worrying themselves over the shaky connection between A.J. Brown and Drake Maye.

It's time for a first look at John Calipari's third team with Arkansas basketball.
The Razorbacks begin a four-game preseason tour in the Caribbean Friday, July 31, facing The Bahamas National Team. All of the exhibitions will be against international competition.
This will be an important week to build chemistry. The Hogs return one player who logged meaningful minutes from last year's team that reached the Sweet 16. Billy Richmond III turned down the NBA Draft and is back for his junior season.
Otherwise, Arkansas has a slew of newcomers competing for playing time this season. There are eight true freshmen on the roster, including four five-star recruits.
One of those five-star prospects is Finland's Miikka Muurinen, but the 7-foot forward has not yet received clearance from the NCAA and won't be available to play this week.

Everyone loves a good training camp story, none more so than fans of the Cleveland Browns.
Every summer, it seems, there is a little-known player who stands out, usually during the final preseason game, by racking up big stats against an opposing lineup of players who will soon be unemployed.
Players like running back Matt Dayes (77 yards on just 8 carries and a rushing touchdown in 2018), or tight end Devon Cajuste, who won over fans that same season as the Browns were featured on Hard Knocks.
Sometimes, however, that feel-good story turns out to be an actual NFL player, as in the case of Josh Cribbs.
An undrafted free agent out of Kent State in 2005, Cribbs made the coaching staff pay attention by showing his return skills during the preseason. He made the roster that year, and over the course of eight seasons with the Browns, etched his name in the franchise's record book.

In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Manchester United are keeping a keen eye on Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils are eyeing a move to bring the English defender to Old Trafford this summer.
Hall enjoyed a good run of form at the Tyneside club in the previous campaign as he was responsible for putting in a run of consistent displays on the left side of their defence. The 21-year-old scored one goal and grabbed two ******* ists in 47 matches for Newcastle last season across multiple competitions.
The English talent is currently among the most talented full-backs in the Premier League. Hence, it is no wonder that the Red Devils are hoping to land him this off-season.
His current deal at St. James' Park will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for Man United to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.

The Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Antwone Kelly from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned left-hander Hunter Barco ahead of Friday's game against the Reds in Cincinnati.
This will be Kelly's third stint with the Pirates this season. In two appearances out of the bullpen with Pittsburgh, the 22-year-old has allowed five runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout in 4.1 innings.
Kelly has made 19 appearances/13 starts with Indianapolis this season and is 5-5 with a 4.29 ERA. In 77.2 innings, he's allowed 37 earned runs on 73 hits with 36 walks and 56 strikeouts in 77.2 innings.
Barco pitched three innings against the Reds on Thursday night and allowed a pair of runs on five hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts. In six appearances for the Pirates this season, the 25-year-old is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA.

The last place Cincinnati Reds are limping towards the August 3rd trade deadline at just 51-57, still buried in the busy National League Wild Card standings 5.5 games back of the final spot. That comes with the caveat that there are six NL clubs they'd have to jump to earn their way into that spot – the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals, and St. Louis Cardinals.
At quick glance, at least three of those clubs are likely going to be buyers at the deadline. So, the Reds are between a rock and a hard place, and anything other than a miracle win streak this weekend will likely send them into at least some mode of selling.
Per Bob Nightengale of the USA Today, that won't include moving Hunter Greene. Cincinnati's ace had seen his name pop up in trade rumors pretty much ever since Chase Burns signed his $105 million extension as the rest of the baseball world began to wonder how the typically frugal Reds would accommodate both on the payroll long-term.
That said, they've long been rumored to be shopping their litany of players who are destined to reach free agency at season's end, and that includes catcher Tyler Stephenson. He's been red-hot of late, too, slashing .339/.400/.523 dating back to June 4th, and that's caught the eye of the catching-needy New York Yankees, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.
Yankees are among many teams to check on 3-time All-Star/switch-hitting catcher Adley Rutschman. NYY is casting a wide net for catching need. Ryan Jeffers, pending free agent, seemed logical but Twins suggest they’re a buyer now. Tyler Stephenson, others are on NYY list

One of the highly anticipated matchups of the weekend is between the Boston Red Sox (57-51) and Los Angeles Dodgers (69-40). These are two of the hottest teams in each league over the last eight games and in July overall.
Since the Red Sox's winning streak ended at 16 games, Boston is 5-3 and won four of the past five. Los Angeles is on a two game winning streak and is 6-2 over the past eight games. Boston joined elite company with their 16-game winning streak. Only eight teams have recorded winning streaks of 15-plus wins in the regular season since 1961 and every team made the postseason, which is good news for Boston.
In the previous week, Boston's pitching rotation is giving up a .267 opponent batting average (24th), which could be a problem against Los Angeles. The Dodgers are batting .282 (7th) with six home runs (T-8th) and 23 runs scored (T-13th) over five games. Los Angeles' pitching rotation has a 4.50 ERA (21st) in that span, but the fourth-best OBA (.212).

England's Acelya Toprak overcame India's Yamini Mourya in the women's -57kg judo final to win the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
In an exhausting bout that went to golden score and lasted almost seven minutes, Toprak eventually forced Mourya into a third shido to claim victory.
The 28-year-old had won silver in 2022 but managed to go one better this time around in Glasgow.
"My last Commonwealth Games went exactly the same way. In the final it was two shidos each, we were into four-and-a-half minutes of extra time and I made that one misstep, over-stretched and got caught," Toprak told BBC Sport.
"So I'm very happy that this time I didn't do that, because that's shattering, that hurts.

Wales have collected 22 medals so far at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with five gold, six silver and 11 bronze medals.
There are three more guaranteed medals after boxers Orlando Holley-Sotomi and Connor Williams reached Saturday's finals, with Owain Harris-Allan left to box in Friday's semi-finals.
Wales' most successful Games were on the Gold Coast in 2018 where they won home 36 medals, including 10 golds, 12 silvers and 14 bronze, but the streamlined nature of this Glasgow event makes it difficult to compare.
The 2026 medals include six in swimming, six in cycling, four in athletics, three in artistic gymnastics, and one each in bowls, weightlifting and boxing.
The swimming relay podium position count as one medal per race but all the competitors who took part in the heat or finals of that event will be given a medal. That means 13 Welsh swimmers leave Glasgow with medals.
