As you know, football fans from every team, whether they're emotionally stable after a game or not, can grab a keyboard or camera and share their feelings with the world. That's bad news this Monday, after the first Sunday of the NFL season, for Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur and the officials who called the Vikings-Packers stunner in Minneapolis.
The Vikings trailed 22-10 before scoring 29 unanswered points in a 39-22 victory. LaFleur is getting torched by the fan base because second-half collapses have become a trend since last December, and the officials are taking heat after calling 13 penalties on the Packers and only three on the Vikings.

After a goalless opening 87 minutes, Joel Chima Fujita broke the deadlock in the 88th minute to finally give St. Pauli the breakthrough they had been searching for.
The result ends St. Pauli's wait for a first league victory of the campaign, having collected just three points from their opening four matches before tonight's meeting. Wolfsburg, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season after beginning the campaign unbeaten.
There was plenty of attacking intent from both sides during an entertaining first half, although neither could find the breakthrough.
Wolfsburg came closest inside the opening five minutes when Fabian Reese struck the crossbar from a free-kick, while St. Pauli goalkeeper Ben Voll was then forced into action to deny Muhammed Damar.
The hosts responded as Connor Metcalfe tested Jakub Zielinski from distance before Abdoulie Ceesay came close to opening the scoring in the 12th minute. The St. Pauli forward met a dangerous free-kick from close range but headed straight at the Wolfsburg goalkeeper.

The Tennessee ***** ans will still commemorate halftime of Sunday's season opener to "CJ2K," but the team announced Friday that it's postponing Chris Johnson's Ring of Honor induction ceremony.
Because of "unforeseen circumstances," Johnson and his family are no longer able to travel to Nashville for the Week 1 game between the ***** ans and the New York Jets, the ***** ans said in a statement.
Johnson is battling ALS, a diagnosis he revealed in June.
"Knowing how much he and his family desire to be in person at Nissan Stadium for his induction into the ***** ans Ring of Honor, we will postpone the official induction ceremony and look forward to celebrating the moment with them at a future date," the statement continues.
"Sunday's halftime ceremony will remain dedicated to celebrating Chris' incredible on-field achievements and legacy with our team. Our thoughts, along with those of ***** ans fans everywhere, continue to be with Chris and his wife, Brittany."

The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys are set to kick off the 2026 regular season, which means fantasy football is in full swing.
With drafts already taken place, the majority of lineups are going to reflect the order in which managers drafted. Even so, there are still a handful of players who may be on the fringe in terms of their fantasy viability in Week 1.
We're not counting the likes of CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Malik Nabers and Javonte Williams — all of whom should be started without thought.
Meanwhile, here's a look at five players from this matchup to start or sit in Week 1:
Both quarterbacks should be in fantasy lineups this week to open the season, but we're going to focus a bit more on Dart here. Though the second-year quarterback was going relatively late in drafts, he's in a fantastic spot this week. The Cowboys defense has gotten better, but they still allowed the most fantasy points per game (23.4) to the quarterback position last season. Given that and his rushing upside, Dart is a strong option at quarterback.

The same Week 1 warning applies here. Washington's new offensive coordinator, David Blough, has never called an NFL offense, so there is no real film that tells us exactly what Vic Fangio will be preparing for. We can make educated guesses based on Blough's background and what Blough has said publicly, but anyone claiming to know precisely what this offense will look like is guessing.
It's really hard for me not to spend the whole article comparing Sean Mannion and David Blough, but the similarities are so obvious. Blough only stopped playing quarterback recently and spent the past two seasons as Washington's ******* istant quarterbacks coach under Kingsbury. Before that, his playing career put him around a wide range of offensive coaches, including Ben Johnson in Detroit and Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota. Washington has also been open about wanting to move away from some of the philosophical elements of Kingsbury's offense, particularly by becoming more balanced and using more under-center play action. Sound familiar?!
Blough's challenge is deciding how much to change. Daniels has already spent two seasons getting comfortable in Kingsbury's system, particularly operating from shotgun, using tempo, and using his legs a lot. Daniels looks like someone suited to a shotgun, spread-heavy RPO offense.
Throwing all of that away would make very little sense. At the same time, Washington didn't change coordinators because it wanted the exact same offense, so I would expect the eventual structure to keep some of the shotgun and RPO elements Daniels already excels at while adding more motion, heavier personnel, under-center formations, and a more connected run and play-action game. Once again… sound familiar?!

It seemed like a heartwarming ending. Chris Paul, the man who helped turn around the Clippers' culture and the transition from Donald Sterling to Steve Ballmer as an owner during the Lob City era, came back to the Clippers for his final season before retiring.
Instead, Paul's strong leadership style clashed with coach Tyronn Lue and management — CP3 would say he was holding them accountable — and 21 games into the season they sent him away from the team (but still on the roster). Then at the deadline he was traded to Toronto in what was purely a financial move.
Chris Paul discussed that exit on the Build or Break podcast and did not hold back.
"What's interesting about that whole situation is, it's probably one of the most disrespectful things that I've endured...
"I think just because of the investment we made in the team for as long as we have, and to see the way stuff was handled. What it lets you know is that no matter what you do or what you've done, **** ody cares."

Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez still doesn't have a contract extension, and with the season opener only four days away, he isn't not committing to playing without one.
Gonzalez continues to take a day-to-day approach.
"I'm focused on today," Gonzalez said, via Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. "Right now, it is practice in what, a couple, 30 minutes, 40 minutes. Worried on that right now, so we'll focus on that."
Gonzalez answered "I don't know" when asked if contract talks were progressing.
The Seahawks recently signed cornerback Devon Witherspoon to a four-year, $132 million deal, which should provide a template for the Patriots. Gonzalez and Witherspoon have the same agent, Reggie Johnson.

Ten months ago, the Los Angeles Rams conducted an audacious experiment.
They sought to reduce the toll that transatlantic travel takes on players' bodies by approaching a game in London like a hit-and-run mission.
Instead of flying out a few days before kickoff the way most NFL teams do, the Rams arrived in London just a day before facing the Jacksonville Jaguars and began their journey home soon after the final whistle. There would be no need for body clocks to adapt to the eight-hour time difference, the Rams theorized, if the trip was as short as possible.
Poking holes in the Rams' tactics became harder over the course of a crisp 35-7 pummeling of a Jaguars team that only lost three other games last regular season. "The way the guys played showed it was the right decision," Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters after his team brushed off the absence of injured star receiver Puka Nakua, charged to a 21-0 halftime lead and coasted to a blowout victory.
Emboldened by last year's successful trial run, the Rams are getting even more daring. They're applying the same philosophy to the longest trip in NFL history, a 16-hour flight to Melbourne, Australia, covering nearly 8,000 miles. Australia hosts its first NFL game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, September 11 when the Super Bowl favorite Rams open their season against the San Francisco 49ers. Kickoff is at 10:35 a.m. in Melbourne so that the game airs in prime time on Thursday, September 10 back in the U.S.

That's about how Alabama football offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb summed up the most fundamental way for the Crimson Tide rushing attack to improve in 2026: eliminate negative plays.
"I thought one of our biggest sins last year was the number of negative yardage runs that we had," Grubb said Monday. "You know, for us, just the availability of keeping the ball consistently moving forward and eliminating the negative yardage runs is going to be step one. And that's a very low bar."
A low bar indeed, but one UA too often failed to clear in 2025. Crimson Tide running backs got caught in the backfield plenty, even if sack yardage accounted for most rushing losses in official statistics. When Alabama was held to minus-3 yards rushing in a blowout loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, quarterback Ty Simpson took 29 yards in rushing losses via the sack. But UA's leading rusher (Daniel Hill) had just 11 yards net.
Still, disallowing penetration is naturally at the top of Grubb's list.

Moses Itauma tasted his first professional defeat earlier today (Sat., Aug. 29, 2026) at the "Natural Born Thriller" fight card LIVE on DAZN from London, England, dropping a main event TKO loss to Croatian contender Filip Hrgovic, who walked away with the vacant IBF heavyweight ****** le.
Saturday offered a jam-packed slate of combat action, but the heavyweight ****** le fight between Itauma and Hrgovic was at the top of the list. Not only because they are two of the more promising contenders in the division, but also due to their on-stage scuffle during Friday's weigh ins. Itauma entered their Saturday grudge match as a betting favorite, but Hrgovic was always going to be a live dog.
While both fighters had their moments in the fight the biggest story line was Hrgovic's ability to take a punch. Itauma hits as hard as most heavyweights —evident by his career knockout rate — but that didn't prevent Hrgovic from taking the punishment and plodding forward. Eventually, Hrgovic's durability and resolve were too much for Itauma to handle and he started to fade. That allowed Hrgovic to implement his own offense and start piling on big shots. As a result, Itauma's corner eventually decided to throw the towel in for a TKO stoppage in the ninth round. Itauma was so bad that he had to be transported from the ring on a stretcher.

Texas A&M's 2028 recruiting class will take center stage this fall, as five-star quarterback Donald Tabron and four-star Edge Chance Archangel are currently the program's lone commitments heading into the 2026 season, but this is just the start for coach Mike Elko and his staff, who are set to host a growing list of blue-chip prospects in the cycle during all seven of the Aggies' home games.
Among that growing list is five-star defensive lineman Kellan Hall, who recently placed Texas A&M on his Top 12 program list and has released his unofficial visit list for the fall. He will reportedly make his way to College Station on Oct. 3 and will attend Texas A&M vs. Arkansas in Kyle Field, joining several elite 2028 recruits, including five-star safety Casey Barner.
Earlier this summer, Hall spoke to On3/Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman, raving about his first visit to College Station while providing an early preview of his unofficial visit plans with the Aggies and detailing his strong relationship with Texas A&M defensive line coaches Elijah Robinson and Tony Jerod-Eddie.
"I was on campus for a few days, so really got the chance to talk to quite a few players and other recruits. However, the highlight was the camp and working with Coach E. Rob, Coach Tony, and Coach Malik. I really like how they are intentional about giving guys work during practice and every player has a coach working with them. I saw this during camp and at practice the day I arrived."
Under Mike Elko, a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including unanimous All-American Edge Cashius Howell and defensive tackles Albert Regis and Tyler Onyedim, who were off the board in the second and third rounds, further proving that Texas A&M has become one of the top destinations for young defensive linemen and pass rushers.

Ben Roethlisberger's arm ligaments turned al dente sometime around 2019. The Pittsburgh Steelers' defense behind him remained strong. That juxtaposition created the broken path that leads us to 2026. That's the year where the Steelers, in a league where most teams will have only two quarterbacks on their active roster, plan to keep four passers at the 53-man cutdown day.
That's what first-year head coach Mike McCarthy told ESPN's Brooke Pryor to expect when rosters as finalized August 30 at 6 p.m. ET. His QB1 will be a soon-to-be 43-year-old Aaron Rodgers, heavily diminished from his MVP peak. His veteran backup will be Mason Rudolph, exiled to Nashville in 2024 to bring his special brand of underwhelming football to the Tennessee ***** ans before reuniting with the team last year. Behind them, for now, is the duo of mid-round draft picks Pittsburgh picked up as lottery tickets in hopes they may have dug a diamond from a coal mine: Will Howard (sixth round, 2026) and Drew Allar (third round, 2026).
The need for four quarterbacks can be traced back to the end of the Roethlisberger era. This team was too competent to fall to a top 10 draft pick as the two-time Super Bowl champion's arm weakened and his average target distance dropped to league lows. Stopgap solutions followed; Mitchell Trubisky. Kenny Pickett. Rudolph. Russell Wilson. Justin Fields. Now, it's Rodgers.
When Pickett, the first quarterback selected in one of the worst quarterback drafts of all time, failed, the Steelers bought in to retread passers just good enough to keep the team at slightly above average. Playoff appearances followed. Playoff wins did not. Between weak draft position and the franchise's general distaste for big free agent splashes -- missing out on Kirk Cousins (good!) and Sam Darnold (not as good!) -- Pittsburgh went from renting to owning its place in contender's limbo.
2026 has marked the franchise's desire to stay there. Mike Tomlin, architect of zero losing seasons in 19 years at the helm, parted ways with the team. Rather than start fresh with a rising young head coach, the team hired Mike McCarthy, a man with a 126-80-2 record in the regular season since 2011 and a 6-9 playoff record. It brought back Rodgers, who can no longer use his legs to extend plays and has been forced into a diet of short, quick passes to avoid pressure even as his otherworldly arm talent remains in flashes of "remember when?" And, importantly, rather than casting his lot with Howard and Allar in case of injury and letting the chips fall where they may, McCarthy is keeping Rudolph as QB2.

Bannigan initially joined Monaghan as part of Vinny Corey's management team in 2022 before succeeding Corey as boss in 2024.
Under Bannigan, Monaghan won the Division Two **** le in 2025 and reached successive All-Ireland quarter-finals where they were knocked out by Donegal and then Louth.
The Farney men were relegated from Division One this year after a tough league campaign in which they failed to pick up a point.

It peaked at 3.82 million viewers. Sunday's Fever vs. Sky matchup trails two games from the league's opening weekend (June 21-22, 1997): New York Liberty vs. Los Angeles Sparks (5.04 million viewers) and Charlotte Sting vs. Phoenix Mercury (3.59 million viewers)
It was the second contest in WNBA regular-season history broadcast by a network on Sunday in prime-time. The first was on July 12, when Indiana played the defending champion Las Vegas Aces. That game averaged a TAD of 2.64 million viewers and is the second most-watched WNBA game this season.
The Fever beat the Sky, 113-90, at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Sunday. Caitlin Clark led the way with 37 points, including a career-best eight 3-pointers, and 10 ******* ists. Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points, four ******* ists, two steals and a block.Chicago finished with four players in double figures, including Natasha Cloud, who led the team with 16 points. Cloud also had seven ******* ists, four rebounds and a steal.

Luis Garcia Jr. joined in on the home run parade with a two-run blast in the fifth to give the Yankees the lead at the time, and came through in the seventh in a tie game with an RBI double.

The NY Rangers could be facing a rather surprising roster decision when training camp arrives later this fall.
That roster decision could lead to a once blue line mainstay on the outside looking in: Urho Vaakanainen.
That might seem implausible considering Vaakanainen is a perfectly capable NHL defenseman. But that's exactly what makes this situation somewhat complex. The Rangers have added more competition to their blue line, and suddenly there may not be enough room for everyone.
The NY Rangers brought in Marcus Pettersson and Sean Durzi, while players such as Matthew Robertson and Drew Fortescue are also competing for opportunities. Scott Morrow in particular is expected to challenge for a spot on the NHL roster.
That creates a numbers game.

Saturday means 22 days until the New Orleans Saints regular season opener. The Saints will open 2026 on the road when they travel to take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 13. Veteran cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. is wearing No. 22 for New Orleans.

The brawl was eventually broken up, but FIFA quickly announced it would investigate the situation a day after the contest.
That investigation concluded Friday, as FIFA announced a number of punishments as a result of the brawl. In a statement, FIFA said the Argentina FA would be fined $321,000 and would have to play its next two games with limited fans in attendance. Additionally, four players and one team official were issued suspensions for their roles in the fracas.
Paredes received the largest suspension, and will miss the next 10 matches after grabbing Garcia by the throat. Paredes also received a fine of $90,000 for his actions.
In addition to Paredes, Nahuel Molina, Thiago Almada and Pablo Martín Páez Gavira were the three other players to be fined and suspended as a result of the brawl. Molina will miss the next seven matches and was also fined $90,000. Almada and Gavira were each suspended one match and fined $30,000.

The league phase draw for the 2026-27 Champions League campaign takes place on Thursday, 27 August at 17:00 BST in Monaco.
A total of 36 teams will enter the league phase. While 29 teams qualified at the end of last season, the remaining seven places are decided by qualifiers that will conclude next week.
In the league phase, each team will face eight different teams once, with four home matches and four away matches.
For the draw, the 36 teams will be placed into four pots with one being the highest-ranked and four being the lowest. The pot placements are based on the club's Uefa club coefficient ranking from the five-season period ending at the conclusion of last season.
Each team will face two teams from each of the four pots in the league phase and cannot face a team from the same country as themselves.
