MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A shooting at a high school in the southern Philippines on Friday left two 14-year-old students and the teenage gunman dead and wounded at least eight people, local government and police officials said.
The shooting at Banga National High School in the South Cotabato town of Banga is under investigation, the Philippine National Police said in a statement. Police officers secured the campus and coordinated with school officials and medical responders, the statement said.
South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo said the two students killed were a boy and a girl, both 14. He said the gunman also shot himself and died.
Banga Mayor Albert Palencia told DZBB radio that the gunman hit 10 students in the classroom next to his, two of whom died while eight were wounded. A person who was hyperventilating was also brought to a hospital, according to the governor.
Tamayo said the gunman's best friend told officials that the teenager was a member of an online "true crimes community." Authorities were investigating the account and whether it had any connection to the shooting, he said.

One day after a dramatic meeting of the arts institution’s Board of Trustees, during which members – many of whom are allies of President Donald Trump – voted to close its doors, lights inside the Kennedy Center’s main building appeared to have been turned off.
The doors had been locked at 6 p.m. Tuesday night and bike racks were stacked up by entrances to block public access.
But officially closing the public monument would violate a court order requiring it remain open as a lawsuit brought by Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty continues.
On Wednesday, US District Court Judge Christopher Cooper, in response to an appeal for an emergency hearing filed by Beatty, ordered the Trump administration to answer questions over the status of the building by Thursday at 10 a.m ET.
Beatty issued the request after a member of her legal team was denied entry to the main building and “was informed by several security staff members that the building is currently closed to the public,” her attorneys said in a court filing.

Pete Alonso returned to Citi Field on Monday with the Baltimore Orioles after seven seasons with the New York Mets, for whom he was arguably the face of the team.
Batting second for Baltimore, Alonso received a standing ovation from the crowd as his walk-up song "Layla" played over the ballpark loudspeakers. Alonso acknowledged the cheers by taking off his helmet and tipping it to the crowd.

One of those guys was Kristian Campbell, the former star prospect whom the Red Sox paid very early, a decision that hasn't exactly worked out to the fullest just yet.
However, it's also important to recognize that Campbell is very young, and with a ton of upside and what he's shown throughout the minor leagues this season, especially recently, there's a lot of hope that he can eventually be that guy.
While there seems to have been a possibility that he could have been called up over the past few days because of some of the injuries the Red Sox have dealt with, it's now being reported that because of his injury, it doesn't seem likely that he's going to get the call.
This is an unfortunate situation in what's been a tough past year or so for Campbell, but it's the harsh reality of Major League Baseball.

A Dominican Summer League player in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, Belfi Rivera, is at the heart of a deflating story that dropped on ProPublica about young baseball players in the Dominican Republic being preyed on and scammed.
Gus Garcia-Roberts, an investigative reporter who specializes in sports, released the article on Thursday, Sept. 10. Rivera is at the forefront as Garcia-Roberts exposes Santo Caraballo, whom Garcia-Roberts describes as "one of the most notorious moneylenders profiting from Dominican baseball," for receiving $950,000 of Rivera's money despite not having anything to do with Rivera's development.
That $950,000 is part of a $1.8 million deal the Diamondbacks pledged to pay him after he turned 16. Garcia-Roberts also found that these deals are made verbally, so no records can be found if a team decides they do not want to pay the kids.
MLB finds more players in the Dominican Republic than anywhere outside of the United States, so the league sees the country as a hotbed for talent. Mariska Hargitay is hosting the 78th Emmy Awards, and she's already won big ahead of the televised ceremony. She nabbed two Emmys for directing and producing My Mom Jayne, a biopic about her late mother, Jayne Mansfield. Since the movie came out, the Law & Order: SVU star has received support from her family, who posed with her on the red carpets at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and 2026 Tribeca Film Festival.
Now that she's taking up hosting duties, Hargitay is sure to be cheered on by her husband, Peter Hermann, and their three kids. The 62-year-old actress has spoken often about being a parent. "The thing that's made me a better parent is my kids," Hargitay told People in 2018. "Because they taught me to really listen. My husband is my North Star, and my kids are my teachers." Almost two years after marrying Hermann, whom Hargitay met on the set of Law & Order: SVU, they welcomed their first child together. August was born on June 28, 2006, when the actress was 42. A few months later, Hargitay won her first Emmy.
Now 20 years old, August has been spotted visiting the Law & Order: SVU set in New York City as recently as Season 27. He's been photographed with his mother at various outings, from red carpets to New York Knicks games to the US Open.

UFC president Dana White trashed former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, whom he referred to as a "bad guy."
Ngannou left the UFC in 2023 and has since fought for PFL, MVP MMA, and in professional boxing.
At age 40, Ngannou is not a young man anymore, but he continues to be a feared knockout artist and someone who UFC fans still want to see fight inside the Octagon against the top heavyweights in the world.
Not so fast, however, says White, who says he has zero interest in bringing Ngannou back to the UFC.

Hayden Panettiere's boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, has met with federal investigators as authorities continue looking into the circumstances surrounding the actress' death.
Hickerson, 37, has spoken with the DEA, according to a report TMZ published on Thursday, September 10, citing sources with direct knowledge of the investigation. Local and federal authorities are focusing on identifying the person who may have supplied Panettiere, 36, with substances that could have contributed to her death, with one source explaining that investigators are "zeroing in on a potential drug dealer."
No arrests have been made, and investigators are still awaiting toxicology results that could determine Panettiere's official cause of death, according to the outlet.
