The first goalie to ever play for the Utah Hockey Club is hanging up his pads for good.
Connor Ingram announced his retirement via Instagram Friday evening with a simple, yet profound caption: "Don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened. Thanks hockey, I owe ya."
The post included photos of him with the Edmonton Oilers, Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning — four of the five organizations in which he played.
Ingram, 29, skated in 134 regular-season NHL games, including 22 for Utah. He also saw nine games' worth of playoff action, most recently with the Oilers in their 2026 first-round series against the Anaheim Ducks.
One of the most heroic moment of Ingram's career came just five games into it.

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was rewarded in August with a three-year, $67.5 million contract extension, a deal that made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history as he enters his fourth season. He is one of the core pieces on this offense for the Lions.
Gibbs is primed for a huge season after the Lions traded running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans in March. As the featured three-down back, it is quite possible that Gibbs can carry the ball more than 300 times in the 2026 NFL season.
Candace Pedraza of Side Lion Report listed five winners and three losers from the offseason as Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season approaches. Gibbs landed on the winners side alongside the rookie class, Aidan Hutchinson, Isaac TeSlaa and the team's undrafted free agents. Pedraza wrote:
"Gibbs has an excellent shot at winning OPOY or MVP, or both, this season. The former Giallorossi captain, now an advisor for Maxima Roma, spoke to Rai Sport on the sidelines of the presentation of the capital's basketball team, also focusing on the ***** le race.

Indiana had its way with North Texas on Saturday, but not before quarterback Josh Hoover had a **** nose scare.
During the second quarter of the game, North Texas brought pressure, resulting in a defender grabbing Hoover's facemask and turning his helmet fully backward. Hoover immediately started bleeding, and the blood kept dripping from his nose.

How much premier talent is on the Houston Texans' roster entering 2026?
In ESPN's most recent projections for who will be the top 100 players in the NFL this season, there are five Houston Texans players who made the list. Four of them were on defense: defensive ends Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter, as well as cornerbacks Derek Stingley and Kamari Lassiter.
Houston's one player on offense who made the list was wide receiver Nico Collins.
The Texans' defense only got better in the offseason with the addition of Jadeveon Clowney. Anderson had 20 tackles for loss, including 12 sacks, as well as three forced fumbles last season, and with the trio of Anderson, Hunter and Clowney, he could hit those numbers again this season, as the entire defensive line will be a handful for opposing offensive lines.
Anderson, who became the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL after a breakout season last fall, appeared at No. 14. The second Texan on the list was cornerback Derek Stingley, who was named an All-Pro last season for the second year in a row.

Alpine's Pierre Gasly has lost his podium at the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix after McLaren won their appeal against the result, motorsports ruling body FIA said in a statement on Friday.
Gasly was demoted from third to seventh after the race on June 7 due to two separate five-second time penalties for speeding in the pit lane.
However, his position was restored after Alpine requested a right of review.
McLaren the appealed against that decision and the FIA's International Court of Appeal reinstated Gasly's penalty.
That means the driver dropped back to seventh place and Red Bull's Isack Hadjar returned to third place. McLaren's Oscar Piastri has moved up to fourth. Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes won the race.

Alabama basketball has made two changes to Crimson Tide coach Nate Oats' support staff, including the return of a familiar face to Tuscaloosa.
Alex Accetta has been hired as director of program relations, per an announcement from UA on Thursday, September 3. Accetta previously worked with Alabama men's hoops from 2015 to 2022, starting as a student **** istant before becoming the program's operations coordinator in 2017 and director of operations in 2021. In 2022, she left Alabama for a guest experience role with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks.
The news of Accetta's hire comes shortly after she and Oats married on July 26, 2026.
Josh Pierre, meanwhile, moves from director of basketball operations to director of player development, inheriting the role once held by Christian Pino, who came with Oats from Buffalo and is now on Bryan Hodgson's staff at Providence as a recruiting coordinator.
Pierre has been at Alabama since 2022 after previous stops at Elon, Mississippi State and Arkansas State.

Her 6-3, 6-2 victory over the powerful but erratic Frodin was a polished performance, and an encouraging one after the injury that flared up to force her out of her Cincinnati Open quarter-final.
"I'm happy with the match. Especially when you don't know your opponent, it always can be dangerous, but overall I'm happy with the first match and how it went," she said.

On Saturday, USC opened up its 2026 season by handling San Jose State 42-26 at the Coliseum. With the victory, the Trojans started off the year 1-0.
One of the talking points following the game had nothing to do with what happened on the field itself, but rather in the crowd. Due to extremely hot temperatures, an early kickoff, and not exactly a marquee opponent, the Trojans drew their lowest attendance in nearly eight years.
On Sunday, USC issued a statement to USA TODAY regarding the Coliseum crowd.
"We understand the factors that impacted Saturday's attendance," the statement read. "We have high expectations and a premier home schedule this season, and we know the competitive advantage an electric Coliseum atmosphere can provide our program. We thank our fans who showed up Saturday and look forward to seeing increased attendance the rest of the season."
The good news is that the factors that played into Saturday's low attendance should not be a problem the rest of the season. The bad news, however, is that the Trojans play a Friday game this week against Fresno State, which also typically tend to draw smaller crowds.

Lazio are still reportedly trying to sign young Leicester City striker Lorenz Hutchinson in a transfer saga that could go down to the wire.
The 18-year-old is widely considered one of the Foxes' most promising young talents, having netted 27 goals in his 38 appearances for the U18 side, plus four goals in 18 outings with the U21 team. He also has an international goal from his three caps with England U19. But with his contract expiring in June 2027, the teenager is facing an uncertain future.
Over the past few weeks, Hutchinson has been repeatedly linked to Lazio, who are looking to bolster their squad with an exciting young centre-forward. And although we're less than 36 hours away from the transfer deadline, the move could still materialise.
According to British football journalist Ben Jacobs, Lazio have submitted a 'final' bid for the English-Jamaican player, offering Leicester a transfer fee of £1 million in addition to a sell-on clause in case of a future resale.
The source believes the 2015/16 Premier League champions are satisfied with the offer, but the two clubs still have some details to sort out before reaching the finish line. Il Messaggero also mentions Hutchinson as one of the young players Lazio are tracking.

The New York Giants acquired defensive tackle C.J. Okoye from the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Art Staple of USA TODAY provided some additional clarity, reporting that the Giants are sending their own 2028 seventh-round pick to Baltimore as part of the deal.
Okoye, a 6-foot-6, 365-pound nose tackle, reunites with Giants head coach John Harbaugh after spending the 2025 season in Baltimore. The 24-year-old Nigerian product entered the NFL through the International Player Pathway Program following two seasons on the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad. He also trained at former Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora's Uprise camp.
Promoted to Baltimore's active roster last October, Okoye appeared in 13 games and recorded 15 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass deflection on 214 defensive snaps. The massive interior lineman gives New York another large body after the offseason trade of Dexter Lawrence and questions about depth behind veterans D.J. Reader and Shelby Harris.
The move comes as the Giants finalize their 53-man roster ahead of the regular season.

The Buffalo Bills (3-0) approached the 2026 NFL preseason with the goal of making sure that the starters were ready to go and that some of the depth options had the chance to show their best stuff. Buffalo's last preseason matchup came on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2) and while none of the starters played, the Bills were able to come out on top in dramatic fashion.
The Bills beat the Steelers 28-27 on Thursday in their preseason finale thanks to the efforts of players like quarterback Shane Buechele and wide receiver Skyler Bell. Buechele finished the contest having completed 26 of his 38 passes for 196 yards while Bell caught seven of his 10 targets for 49 yards while also taking his lone carry for a 28-yard touchdown.
On the other side, the Steelers are still evaluating quarterbacks Drew Allar and Will Howard to see who will be the backup behind starter Aaron Rodgers and neither one seemed to separate from the other through their play in this game.

Unfortunately, the 49ers lost one of their 2026 draft picks in the first quarter of the exhibition matchup, as cornerback Ephesians Prysock suffered a shoulder injury was originally listed as questionable to return. He's now been ruled out.
Prysock, 23, played collegiately at Arizona (2022-23) and Washington (2024-25) before San Francisco took him in the fourth round (No. 139 overall) of this year's draft. He's popped a bit in the team's first two preseason games, so this actually is a big loss for this contest, especially considering the starters aren't playing.
If Prysock can't go, the 49ers will have to rely on Jack Jones, Jakob Robinson, Eli Apple and Darrell Luter Jr. at cornerback for the rest of the game.

The Los Angeles Lakers could still make a move to acquire free agent Jonathan ****** inga through a sign-and-trade with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Lakers were linked to ****** inga at the start of free agency, after their rapid business in the first day of free agency essentially set their roster up with a glaring weakness at power forward, with LeBron James and Rui Hachimura leaving the franchise.
After the Lakers were reportedly priced out of acquiring ****** inga, the team is re-emerging as one of the leading contenders to acquire him, but only if the Hawks agree to a sign-and-trade.
NBC Sports is reporting that the Lakers and Hawks are re-engaging in sign-and-trade talks, with Lakers guard Jaden Hardy potentially heading to Atlanta in this deal.

Today in Boston Celtics history, Hall of Fame Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller declined the offer from Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge to join the 2007-08 team, as Ainge aimed to ***** emble a competitive roster that summer. Miller, a prominent star known for his exceptional shooting from beyond the arc, had been retired for two seasons following an 18-year career with the Pacers. In the end, the prospect of life on the road was too much for the former Pacer to endure, or so he said at the time.

Offensively, I'd anticipate you see the Ravens continue feeding the rookie tight ends plenty. Hibner had the hot hand with plenty of targets last week, so Cuevas may draw more targets this week. Adam Randall seemed to heat up more as his game progressed as well, so look to see him more confident out of the backfield. Baltimore's defense didn't force a turnover against Philly, but I think that changes in this one. JJ McCarthy knows he's got a lot to prove for his NFL future as he settles into the backup role, and I think he gets over-aggressive and air mails one or two that the secondary takes away. I'll call my shot and say Keyon Martin stays hot and gets one.
Baltimore's O-line had a rough outing in joint practices against the pressure looks brought by Brian Flores and this Viking defense. Expect to see a bit of a regression from ***** nano and Reed as they feel the heat. I foresee an ugly, defensive game from both teams today. I predict another big day for the Ravens' secondary in particular, while I think Baltimore's offense will struggle against the relentless blitzing from Brian Flores. The biggest thing to watch in this game is the offensive line. While there are some other positions battles such as the 5th edge players, cornerback depth spots, there are a ton of questions to answer on the line. The most obvious being the center battle. With Danny Pinter going down, is it Gwyn or Pocic who runs with the 1s? How much time does Gwyn, who's already looked great but is inexperienced, get versus Pocic, who need ramp up time? We also need to see improvement from Andrew Vorhees and Emery Jones Jr. after awful showings last week. Corey Bullock will get center reps with Pinter down but could absolutely steal a backup guard spot. Gerad Lichtenhan also looked better than both of those guys last week. – Zach Canter

The New York Jets are getting ready to play their second preseason game on Friday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium. The Jets' first-team offense and defense played well last week in their 24-16 loss to the Buccaneers, but it was the backups who struggled, especially at quarterback.
This will be a bigger test as the Steelers are expected to play their starters for at least the first quarter, aside from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
As for the Jets, the starters will play except for running back Breece Hall, who suffered a groin strain in and will miss 2-3 weeks. The good news is that Hall should be ready for the season opener against the Tennessee ****** ans. The Jets got even more good news when defensive tackle T'vondre Sweat and OLB/DE Joseph Ossai were activated from the Non-Football injury list and have begun practicing with the team.
Considering the preseason cirumstances, here are Jets Wire's three players to watch in the second week of the preseason:
Klubnik performed better than expected in his debut last week against the Buccaneers. He led the Jets offense on two scoring drives in the first quarter. He played with plenty of confidence, looked very comfortable running the offense with the starters and had a nice rapport with Garrett Wilson. It's unknown if Geno Smith will play on Friday as he's still dealing with foot soreness that kept him out of last week's game. If Geno doesn't play, Klubnik should receive plenty of work once again with the first team offense.

Former Green Bay Packers edge rusher Za'Darius Smith is coming out of retirement.
Smith, who played for the Packers from 2019-2021, is signing with the Atlanta Falcons, the team announced on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
He's getting a one-year contract worth $6 million, according to Ian Rapoport of ESPN and the NFL Network.
The 33-year-old Smith announced his retirement during the middle of last season after playing five games with the Philadelphia Eagles.
At the time he said, "I knew this day would come — but now that it's here, I'm feeling so many emotions I never expected. Who would've thought that a kid from Greenville, AL, with just one year of high school football experience, would go on to play professional football in the NFL for 11 incredible years!"

The NCAA is losing in court left and right. They come up with a new rule they are so sure will work, and then it gets struck down again and again. The latest big case comes to us from right here in the Bluegrass, where several former student-athletes are seeking a 5th year now that the NCAA has approved the five-in-five model. One of those athletes is former Missouri Tiger Mark Mitchell.
Mitchell loved playing against Kentucky, he averaged 25 points and 5 rebounds across 3 games against the Cats in the last two years. But there was a time before he was torching the Cats that he wanted to be one.
A video circulating on social media shows a young Mark Mitchell call Kansas "overrated," and when asked if Kentucky was the best school, "Yeah, Kentucky is the best."
As you can tell from the shirts in the video, this was at a Chris Paul middle school combine. But the sentiment is there. Mitchell has always wanted to be a Cat, and now, thanks to the NCAA's poor run of luck, Mitchell might finally get that chance.
Mitchell's case is being heard in Louisville, where Jefferson County Judge Brian C. Edwards is set to review information through Tuesday and then make a ruling by the end of next week.
