Maybe it's a me thing, but I've been craving the thrill and suspense of an award show. Luckily, tonight is the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, where NBC's Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay is hosting live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. As a self-proclaimed binge-watcher, I'm all caught up on tonight's nominees, led by The Pitt with 25 nominations and Hacks at 24, breaking the record for a comedy series to date. But it's not just the potential winners getting buzz; it's the red carpet arrivals, too.
We're tuning in to see which designers tonight's attendees are wearing and get a glimpse of which trends will define 2027—or, in this case, which controversial trends. Shailene Woodley, who won her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Hulu's Paradise last week, arrived on tonight's red carpet in a look from Pierpaolo Piccioli's Balenciaga F/W 26 haute couture collection.
The trend in question? Sequin-embroidered trousers. Woodley wore the divisive pants with their runway pairing, a plunging periwinkle tank, but traded the oversize coat for a pair of burgundy opera gloves. Woodley's stylist, Karla Welch, introduced more color with a beautiful collared necklace crafted from Venetian glass by HOWL. The flooded hem hides Woodley's, I ***** ume, very tall heels.

You might be sabotaging your retirement without even knowing it — either by putting off important planning, being too risk averse, or just forgetting to account for everything you'll need after you quit working.
Doing so is surprisingly common. According to Northwestern Mutual, 50% of Gen Xers expect to outlive their savings in retirement. Maybe that's why almost half of Gen X is either expecting to continue to work in retirement or is already doing so.

Joanna and Chip Gaines shared sweet family moments ahead of a special career milestone.
The former HGTV stars share five children: Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie and Crew. Though the kids have appeared on the couple's shows over the years, Joanna and Chip only share occasional glimpses into their family life on social media.
Joanna shared a rare video of Emmie on Instagram on Saturday, September 12, featuring a sweet mother-daughter moment. "When my 16 year old asked if she could do my makeup this morning, I was in," she captioned the clip. "Emmie Kay, you're hired."
In the clip, Joanna filmed herself sitting on a chair as Emmie showed off her makeup skills on her mother. Fans gushed over the adorable moment in the post's comments, with one user writing, "She did an excellent job very natural. Can she share what she used and the steps? Really great work!!!"
Another added, "Our kids know far much more about make up and beauty than we ever did in our age. Social media wins with make up." Someone else shared, "Beautiful! Time has flown for sure! Her side profile though…..looks like her Mama!"

Many older Americans are millionaires. In fact, the average household net worth among 65- to 74-year-olds is $1.79 million, according to Fidelity.
Some people have far more than that in retirement, which provides them with the financial security that people dream of enjoying during their later years in life. Of course, you still need to be cautious about how much money you withdraw each year so you don't drain your accounts dry.

AUSTIN, Texas — Hours before the out-of-nowhere comeback, before Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium pulsated with noise and shock, before the "SEC, SEC" chants spontaneously broke out over the din of elation and before thousands of forlorn Ohio State fans walked out into the night having that conversation about Ryan Day once again, a plume of burnt orange smoke seemed to linger over the field in the searing Texas heat.
It is a standard part of the pregame pyrotechnics here, but it was a particularly poignant image in the moments before a game like this one between two of college football's biggest brands and highest-ranked teams, with consequences that will take the rest of the season to figure out.
For 14 Saturdays of college football, we're all just waiting for the smoke to clear.
By the end of Texas 24, Ohio State 23, it was a beautiful picture but an incomplete one, made possible only by a regular season that feels increasingly under attack by the powers that be. Year by year, the coaches and administrators at the mega-programs become less interested in playing games like these because the stakes are so high. And yet, without those high stakes of a limited playoff structure where losing this kind of game can knock you out, what kind of sport are you left with?
"Hopefully it pays dividends for us in December," Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said late Saturday night. "But we have a lot more meat on the bone we have to chew off here before we can start worrying about whether this win helps us get into a playoff or not."

ELLE UK hosted its annual ELLE Style Awards this week, celebrating the creative voices shaping the cultural landscape. Hosted by Ncuti Gatwa at The MAINE in London, the evening saw Rosamund Pike, Ruth Wilson, Simone Ashley, Jorja Smith and Dina Asher-Smith among the stars joining this year's award winners.
Dave Benett
Rosamund Pike presented Erdem Moralıoğlu with the British Brand of the Year award, so naturally she wore Erdem for the occasion. Her Fall 2026 patchwork gown is incredibly detailed, and while I'm not usually a fan of PVC heels, I do like how her Christian Louboutin Degraqueen sandals echo the embellishments and tulle overlay of the dress.
Dave Benett
Did it need more sparkle? Probably not, but the Repossi rings completed the look beautifully.

Ohio State superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith knew exactly how to troll Texas after scoring a touchdown right before halftime in Austin on Saturday night.
At the tail end of a brutal half for the Longhorns, the Buckeyes got a last-minute touchdown on a beautiful catch from Smith.
TEXAS: Arch Manning's perplexed reaction to this improbable INT was priceless
After he got Ohio State that key touchdown, he broke out the infamous "Horns Down" hand motion to mock the Texas fans in the stands.
Of course, there's no better way to poke fun at Texas than with the "Horns Down," which isn't penalized in the SEC. Opponents have free reign over the hand signal, and they take advantage of it.

In a recent appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, former All-Pro and current Thursday Night Football **** yst Andrew Whitworth said the Denver Broncos are on an upward trajectory heading into 2026
Whitworth acknowledged what could have been in the 2025 Super Bowl, while looking forward to Denver's 2026 season, especially against the Seattle Seahawks, a game which Whitworth will attend as part of the TNF crew.
"That's another one," Whitworth said of the Broncos-Seahawks matchup in Week 6. "I still think that's a game that could have been last year's Super Bowl, but it also could be this year's. Both those teams have the potential to be there again."
The big game against Seattle will be a pivotal one for the Broncos; it is the final game of a brutal six-game opening stretch; however, it will be potentially the best-looking game of the season, as both squads will wear their beautiful throwback uniforms.
Whitworth complimented the Broncos for their moves in the 2026 offseason, showing they can be contenders once again.

The Virginia Cavaliers did not mess around on Friday night, taking care of Norfolk State, 59-3. As expected, the 'Hoos overmatched the Spartans for 60 minutes, allowing all sorts of reserves to get live reps in the second half.
Three different UVA quarterbacks threw touchdown passes. Beau Pribula, who played the first two quarters, was once again ultra efficient, throwing for 162 yards on 12-of-14 passing with three touchdowns. Of note, Pribula did not have a single designed rushing attempt; offensive coordinator Des Kitchings chose to keep him upright and allow him to sling the rock from the pocket instead.
Backups Eli Holstein and Cole Geer ultimately had limited passing attempts, but both had one impressive throw to build on. Holstein opened the second half with a beautiful goal line fade to Ty'Lyric Coleman in the back corner of the end zone, while Geer found high school teammate Williem Thurber on a tight window up the seam for 28 yards in the fourth.
At the skill positions, wide receiver Jacquon Gibson got himself on the board with two touchdown catches from Pribula, after failing to reach the end zone a single time with UMass in 2025. Meanwhile, sophomore Xay Davis showcased his burst out of the backfield, totaling 107 ticks on 13 attempts.
On the defensive end, Kam Robinson made his way back to the field (in a limited capacity), a welcomed sight for the Cavalier faithful. The first-team secondary looked particularly strong, with Brandyn Hillman hauling in his second and third interceptions of the season, and Jacobie Henderson displaying some playmaking ability of his own. Sophomore linebacker Justin Rowe added a pick six in the final minutes for good measure.

Dolly Parton was a master musician, accomplished cook, and, perhaps most importantly, an excellent communicator. Parton could masterfully handle any insult, joke, or mean-spirited words that came her way.
Communication expert Dorie Clark broke down one of Dolly Parton's most infamous interviews with Barbara Walters from 1978. In it, Walters (knowingly or unknowingly) talked down to Parton about her appearance and upbringing.
But in true Dolly style, she defused anger and outrage with a strategy Clark calls a "label upgrade." It's a trick that worked well for Parton, and one Clark is sure can work for anyone during conversations that may turn offensive without warning.
In the clip shared on her Instagram, Clark highlights moments from the 1978 ABC News interview between Walters and Parton.
Walters first questions Parton about her looks, stating, "Dolly, you don't have to look like this. You're very beautiful. You don't have to wear the blonde wigs. You don't have to wear the extreme clothes, right?"

Michelle Pfeiffer may be one of the most famous actresses in the world, but she's not afraid to go bare-faced on social media.
The beloved actress, 68, whose first starring film role was in Grease 2, rose to fame in legendary films like Scarface and Dangerous Liaisons. She later became a household name as Catwoman in Batman Returns. Now dominating the networks with both Margo's Got Money Troubles and The Madison, the star is reigning supreme in Hollywood.
Despite her international fame, Pfeiffer manages to stay humble. Unlike many Hollywood queens, she has no hesitation to go makeup-free on social media. Pete Davidson has spoken about losing his father on September 11 for much of his adult life, sometimes seriously and sometimes through comedy. Becoming a father himself has changed the way he understands what happened.
Davidson was seven when his father, New York City firefighter Scott Matthew Davidson, died while responding to the World Trade Center attacks. "I thought, 'Oh, he was an old guy. He's 33,'" Davidson told the New York Post. "But now I'm there, and I have a kid, and that would be like my kid not having her dad."
Davidson is 32 and turns 33 in November, putting him close to the age his father was when he died. His daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, was born in December 2025 and was named after the grandfather she will never meet.
That combination made the 25th anniversary especially difficult. Davidson said this year felt "way harder" than it had in a long time, but also "extra beautiful" because he would spend September 11 with Scottie. "It'll be very healing and special," he said.
Scott Davidson was 33 when he died and had been an FDNY firefighter since 1994. He worked with Ladder Company 118 in Brooklyn Heights and responded after the second hijacked plane struck the World Trade Center. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation remembers him as a father who coached Pete in football and baseball, watched daughter Casey's dance recitals and frequently called firefighting "the greatest job in America."

Steve Reinke helped his son Scott build a modest one-bedroom home in Isanti County, Minnesota, in 2015. The goal was affordability: The total cost of land and materials came to just over $130,000. Eleven years later, the county has ***** sed the property at just over $484,000 for 2027.
Reinke says the property tax bill has become nearly as large as the mortgage payment, and the county hasn't explained why the valuation jumped so dramatically.

Pete Davidson is opening up about being a parent amid the 25th anniversary of his father's death.
The comedian, whose father, New York City firefighter Scott Davidson, died responding to the Sept. 11 attacks, reflected on how becoming a dad himself has changed his perspective.
"I thought, 'Oh, he was an old guy. He's 33,'" Davidson told The New York Post in an interview published on Sept. 8. "But now I'm there, and I have a kid, and that would be like my kid not having her dad."
The "Saturday Night Live" alum, who was 7 when he lost his dad and turns 33 in November, named his 8-month-old daughter, Scottie, after him. Davidson added that while "this year is extra tough," it's also "extra beautiful because I get to spend the day with Scottie. It'll be very healing and special."
The actor shares his daughter with ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt. The pair, who broke up shortly after the birth, were in agreement on their daughter's name, Davidson said.

Economist Peter Schiff is making the case for stockpiling nickels, arguing the metal packed into each five-cent coin is now worth more than its face value and could make a better bet than U.S. Treasuries.
In a recent post on X, Schiff said the copper and nickel contained in modern nickels is worth about 7.76 cents — roughly 55% more than their face value — and suggested people buy them from banks before the U.S. government potentially stops producing them.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas — who lost the Lone Star State GOP attorney general primary runoff in May and will depart the U.S. House of Representatives when his current term expires — said Republicans have "delivered significantly" but "need to finish the job."
"Well, we've done so much that frankly, it kinda gets lost in a lot of the noise," Roy told Fox News Digital during an interview on Wednesday, pointing to issues such as tax provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed by President Donald Trump last year.
The Texan pointed to the nation's border as the "biggest example" of Republicans' achievements, saying that "we've literally shut down the flow across the border" through enforcing the law.
He also pointed to the passage of the "Laken Riley Act," a measure named after the 22-year-old woman murdered in 2024 by Jose Ibarra, a man who, according to a 2024 statement by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), had previously been "arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)" after illegally entering the U.S., but was "paroled and released for further processing."
Roy said Republicans "need to unite with a singular vision about where we wanna take the country if we wanna be... rewarded in November... and then frankly looking ahead to 2028."

Pumas got their first home win of the Apertura 2026 after beating Leon by a 3-1 score. Pumas played a solid match and were able to recover after giving up the tying goal to get a solid three points and climb into the Liguilla zone with the victory. Leon battled hard but it wasn't enough. They will return home to host Atletico San Luis on Monday while Pumas will have a tough away match on Sunday when they visit Guadalajara to face off against Chivas.
The 1st half started with Pumas coming out with their usual starting 11 and without Cesar Huerta, who was expected to make his return to Pumas but was rule out because of an injury. Off a counter, Jordi Cortizo got off a left footed shot that would go just wide. Ismael Diaz got off a right footed shot from outside the area that went just wide. A left footed shot in the area from Cristian Calderon would go wide. Off a counter, Luciano Herrera would get off a left footed shot from outside the area that would be saved by Leon's goalkeeper, Oscar Garcia. Cristian Calderon had hurt himself when he got off his left footed shot and had to be subbed out because of that injury. Angel Azuaje was subbed in his place. In the middle of the half, an incredible rain storm started to fall which would probably have a big impact in the match. A cross into the area found Diaz, who whiffed on his close range shot and wasted a great opportunity. A great thru pass found Uriel Antuna but the ball was cleared off his feet by Leon's defense. After a cross into the area was bouncing in the area, Antuna would get off a right footed shot that went wide. From outside the area, Ivan Moreno got off a great right footed shot that forced a wonderful save from Pumas' goalkeeper, Keylor Navas. A great cross into the area by Rodrigo Lopez was beautifully headed by Juninho past Garcia to give Pumas the 1-0 lead. It was a deserved goal as Pumas had been the better team after a slow start. A cross into the area was headed from close range by Diaz but Navas made a good save. The halftime whistle blew and after a good first 45 minutes, Pumas took the deserved lead to their dressing room.
The 2nd half started with Leon subbing out Juan Pablo Dominguez for Diber Cambindo. A cross into the area was headed wide by Herrera. A cross into the area would get to a wide open Jose Alvarado, who got off a great half bicycle kick past Navas to score and tie the match at 1-1. It was a bad mistake by Pumas' defense in leaving Alvarado wide open but he made a great goal with the opportunity. Diaz got off a right footed shot in the area that went wide. Off a counter, the ball would eventually reach Herrera, whose right footed shot went wide. Leon subbed out Ivan Rodriguez for Rodrigo Echeverria. A lob into the area found a wide open Juninho but his right footed volley went wide in a terrible miss. Pumas subbed out Uriel Antuna for Alan Medina. Off a good run, the pass into the area found Cambindo, whose left footed shot went past Navas but hit the post. A

So perhaps it's not surprising that a simple retirement formula, called Coast Fi (Coast financial independence), is gaining steam among young people, especially as they face uncertainty around the future of work and concerns about the future of Social Security.

The trust fund underpinning Social Security's finances is scheduled to dry up in 2032, putting millions of retirees at risk of benefit cuts by the end of the next president's term. Some Republicans are starting to break with the party's longstanding opposition to tax increases to address the problem.
"We've got too many people who say, 'Well, we have to stay within the current income level or stay at the current tax rate,'" Rep. Walt Disney was a visionary who created a company that is arguably the leader in the entertainment field today. But he had to take a lot of risks, and that didn't always sit well with his wife Lillian.
Walt wasn't just an evangelist for his big ideas, he was a backer. In 1934, when he set out to make Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, costs ran up to $250,000. While there were investors, the company still had trouble meeting the amount required to create the film, so Walt sold his car, mortgaged his house and borrowed against his life insurance to complete the film (which Hollywood reporters were calling "Disney's folly" before its release).
