The Detroit Lions have seen their franchise completely turn around under head coach Dan Campbell. After making the playoffs just three times between the year 2000 and 2022, Detroit not only went to the post-season in back to back seasons in 2023 and 2024, but advanced to the NFC Conference Championship in 2023.
While 2025 was a down year (finished 9-8 and missed the playoffs) the team is looking forward to once again proving that they are a true championship caliber team in 2026. Unfortunately, one of their young wide receivers will miss the entire year.
Here are the details.
During practice this week, Detroit’s rookie receiver Kendrick Law tore his ACL. He will be unable to play in the upcoming season. On Tuesday June 2, Lions coach Dan Campbell reported that Law suffered the injury while participating in a non-contact drill.
“Hate it for him,” Campbell said. “The kid was doing a good job. But that’s – it’s part of it. It’s a harsh reality. He’ll get it out of the way early, have his whole career in front of him.”

The game of baseball requires many player archetypes to compete for positions on major league (and professional) rosters. Sluggers, contact hitters, and defensive wizards all have their place within the game. But there’s another group of players (albeit a smaller genre) who are still around and have made their way onto World Series-winning rosters: the utility players.
This group usually has a higher floor and lower ceiling than the others, but if you can find an excellent one, the goal is to keep him around as long as possible. And while a player like Phil Linz wasn’t a star utility man, he still carved out a seven-year career in the major leagues, while also being the key cog in one of the most famous stories in Yankees history.
Philip Francis Linz
Born: June 4, 1939 (Baltimore, MD)
Died: December 9, 2020 (Leesburg, VA)
Yankees Tenure: 1962-1965
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Linz grew up playing baseball. He wasn’t the biggest kid, but he was good enough to be signed by the Yankees straight out of Calvert Hall College High School in 1957. His hometown squad in the Baltimore Orioles didn’t sign him because one of their scouts, Walter Youse, was also Linz’s head coach at Calvert Hall, and he knew that Linz’s vision was terrible. He couldn’t see and, most importantly, he refused to wear glasses. But after signing, he began wearing them in the minor leagues.

On Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates took down the Houston Astros 10-6 on the road. Third baseman Nick Gonzales was a huge part of the Bucs offensive success against Houston.
Gonzales went 3-4 with 3 hits and walked once. He has done a great job getting on base and producing in the middle of the lineup.
Gonzales leads the team with 65 hits after getting two more on Wednesday night, inlcuding a homer. He also has a batting average of .314 which is sixth in the Major Leagues. Gonzales may not show the most power, but he’s hit impressively well and held down third base this season. He now has 2 home runs and 29 RBIs, but with the high batting average and an OPS of .759,he has been a sneaky massive piece for Pittsburgh.
Players like Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds, and Brandon Lowe are getting a lot of attention, but Nick Gonzales has to be the most underrated player so far. The Pirates are 33-29 and tied for second in the NL Central, and Gonzales deserves credit so far.
Gonzales recorded his second three-hit game over his last three contests and added a season-high three runs scored in the Tuesday victory. On Wednesday, he extended his hitting streak to a modest five games and is hitting .476 (10-for-21) during the stretch.

NBA may make massive Minnesota Timberwolves change when expansion happens originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Expansion sure seems to be coming to the NBA.
The league will most likely add two teams when it happens, with Las Vegas and Seattle on the docket.
And if it indeed comes to pass, a team is going to have to move from the Western Conference to Eastern Conference -- because both of those new franchises would definitely fall in the West.
The team most likely? It sounds like it's the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Half a million ain't too shabby.
That's how much the USGA just sweetened the pot at the U.S. Women's Open, with the 81st edition now set to play for a record-breaking $12.5 million purse this week.
“The women deserve to play with the monetary returns that we're providing, and the game is following, and we want to lift that side of it up, the experience that the players have and how they can recover from a day on the golf course and all of those things,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championship officer.
“We're thinking about it holistically," he told reporters Wednesday at Riviera. "We're treating the men and the women equitably in that manner. What we do at the U.S. Open, we'll do at the U.S. Women's Open. That's really important."

After the high-profile signing of Anthony Gordon, Barcelona will be keen on shoring up their ranks in defence as well.
The club have been linked with quite a few options, particularly in the fullback area, with both Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde’s long-term futures at Camp Nou far from certain.
While Marc Cucurella has emerged as one of the top options, Barcelona have also been keeping an eye on Andrea Cambiaso of Juventus.

The NCAA baseball tournament regionals are over … and some surprising teams are moving on. The nation’s No. 1 team, UCLA, is shockingly out of the event and two four-seeds — Little Rock and St. John’s — are moving on.
With the field narrowed down to 16 teams, the super regionals can officially begin. The super regionals will take place between Friday, June 5 and Monday, June 8. Once the dust is settled, the final eight teams will battle it out in the College World Series, which is scheduled from Friday, June 12 through either Sunday, June 21 or Monday, June 22 depending on how long the final series lasts.
Can the Cinderellas continue to surprise, punching their tickets to the College World Series? Or will they meet their untimely end to one of the remaining baseball powerhouses left in the tournament?
