AS Monaco have announced the squad for their upcoming UEFA Europa Conference League campaign. Folarin Balogun has been notably omitted from the squad. It comes following the breakdown of his move to Everton on transfer deadline day.
Monaco announced their UECL squad on Thursday. Balogun was not in it. Whilst Nice-Matin have reported that the USMNT international is likely to remain at Monaco, at least until the winter, there is still the possibility for him to depart. The transfer windows in Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, notably, remain open.
Balogun returned to training for Monaco on Thursday, ahead of Friday night's game against Paris Saint-Germain. He has not been included in the matchday squad for that game, however. A fitness issue had been evoked by Filipe Luís pre-match. The Brazilian manager could not give a timeline for the striker's return. This, as well as the uncertainty over his future, could explain Balogun's surprise absence from the Europa Conference League list.
Matthis Abline, Paris Brunner, and Mika Biereth are the recognised senior options at Luís' disposal.

With a fresh Cincinnati Open **** le in her pocket and a path to the World No. 1 ranking in her sights, Coco Gauff looked very much the part Tuesday night in her opening-round match at the US Open.
On the final scheduled day of first-round play at Flushing Meadows, Gauff took on Türkiye's Zeynep Sönmez in prime time. She started her tournament with an ace that set the tone for an efficient 6-3, 6-4 win.
Gauff was largely dominant on serve, which repeatedly exceeded 120 mph. When she surrendered a second-set break, she maintained her composure to regain control of the match.
Gauff broke Sönmez to take a 4-2 lead and seize control of the first set. She then broke Sönmez's opening serve of the second for a chance at a runaway win.
But Sönmez broke back to get back on serve and 2-2 and keep pressure on Gauff. Sönmez won three straight games and had multiple break-points to win a fourth. But Gauff battled back to remain on serve at 3-3

Delaware resident Mark McKenzie is reportedly returning to the Philadelphia Union, where he launched a pro soccer career that led him to the 2026 World Cup.
The 27-year-old center back will remain with Toulouse in France's Ligue 1 until the January transfer window before rejoining the Union at an estimated $2.5 million fee, The Athletic reported.
That will position McKenzie to appear for the Union when Major League Soccer's inaugural summer-to-spring 2026-27 schedule begins.
McKenzie had made 30 appearances for the U.S. senior men's national team, including starting and playing its entire 2026 World Cup game against Turkiye.
The Bear resident is a Union homegrown player, coming up through its academy system starting at age 13. He attended Newark Charter School until 11th grade before transferring to the Union's YSC Academy in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Gabriel Martinelli is the subject of transfer interest from Galatasaray after they failed to sign Rafa Leao, but the ****** nal man does not want to leave and certainly does not want to move to Turkiye.
In recent seasons, Martinelli's form has not been the best, and there is a good chance that he will remain on the bench for Christos Tzolis to start games at ****** nal. That happened several times last season, when Leandro Trossard was preferred to the Brazilian winger, but the Belgian has been sold and replaced by the Greek star.
Although ****** nal are interested in players such as Bradley Barcola, the Gunners will stick with Martinelli if he stays, but they are more than happy to sell him to Gala.
The Turkish side can also offer him a good salary, which could be much better than what he earns at ****** nal at the moment, but he does not want to move to the Turkish club.
Martinelli appears determined to continue his career elsewhere rather than in Turkiye if he eventually leaves ****** nal. Despite the potential financial benefits of a move, the Brazilian winger has no desire to join Galatasaray at this stage of his career.

In a recent report, TuttoJuve claimed that ******* nal are exploring a move for Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz this month. It has been stated that the Gunners are planning to move in for the Turkish wide player in this transfer window.
Yildiz enjoyed a good run of form at the Turin club in the previous campaign after he produced a string of impressive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The 21-year-old scored ten goals and secured six ******* ists in 36 matches for Juventus last season in the league.
The Turkey international is currently among the most talented wingers in the Super Lig. Hence, it is no surprise that the Gunners are still trying to sign him in this transfer period.
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for ******* nal to land him on a cut-price deal later this year.

The new coaching staff at La Liga giants Real Madrid have been left taken aback by the efforts of one member of the club's midfield ranks across pre-season to date.
The Blancos star in question? Arda Güler.
Midfielder Arda for his part returned to base in Spain's capital to report for pre-season training earlier this week. Afforded an extra week of rest following his exploits with his native Türkiye at the World Cup, the 21-year-old took his place under the watch of José Mourinho for the first time.
And safe to say, Arda has since gone on to make his presence very much felt at Valdebebas… As per a report from Diario AS, the engine room starlet has returned full of intent and vigour with a view to the campaign ahead:
'The coaching staff is surprised. Arda Güler has returned from his vacation not only eager to impress, but also in excellent physical condition. So much so that some key members of the team didn't hesitate to openly praise him: "Güler is flying!" was heard at Valdebebas.'

The midfielder Arda Guler was one of the very few Real Madrid players who avoided any meaningful criticism, despite being a regular starter, for the failure of the last season. He remained a key player for both Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, and the highest point of his season came in the second leg of the quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich, in which his two goals kick-started the Merengues’ comeback, although they ultimately fell short of achieving its objective.
Guler also participated in the World Cup with Turkiye where he also impressed, but his team was eliminated in the group stage. As a result, he returned to Valdebebas before any other World Cup player, last Monday.
According to Diario AS, the sessions over these five days have been enough for the Turk to impress his new coach, Jose Mourinho, and his staff. He has returned from holidays in excellent physical condition and mentally driven to continue playing an important role at Real Madrid. Some members of the coaching staff can be heard saying: “Güler is flying!”
The midfielder will find increased competition for his starting spot going into the next season. Bernardo Silva has been one of the major bets made by the Merengue club this summer, and he will compete directly with Guler for the attacking midfield spot. Meanwhile, Endrick’s ability to play on the right wing also means more competition in this position for the Turk.
However, he has the advantage of already being in Mourinho’s good books. The Portuguese manager wanted to have him in his team when he joined Turkish side Fenerbahce, and later had a meeting with the player in Istanbul.

Mason Greenwood has officially joined Fenerbahce from Olympique Marseille for €39m plus add-ons, ending one of the transfer sagas of the summer, as Roma were frozen out.
The Giallorossi did not disguise that he was the first choice to strengthen their attack after qualifying for the Champions League.
However, while they were prepared to perhaps pay even more than Fenerbahce ultimately did, they could not compete with the reported wages of €10m per season in Turkiye.
Greenwood also seemed to favour a move to Fenerbahce, holding negotiations with two different Presidential candidates, as Roma were unable to convince him.
While Atletico Madrid and some Saudi Pro League sides were also interested, the Englishman had made his decision some weeks ago.

Having long been a target for Roma, it is reported that Mason Greenwood is heading to Istanbul for a Fenerbahce medical, with precise details of the fee to Olympique Marseille, Manchester United and Getafe.
The Giallorossi made no secret that Greenwood was their first choice for the wide left role in attack, and had been preparing a package close to the €50m asking price.

However, Fenerbahce took a different route and started talks with the player early, agreeing personal terms on a vastly superior salary worth up to a reported €9m per season.
Now several sources in Turkiye maintain the deal is done, despite late interest from Atletico Madrid and of course Roma.

Jul. 2—Illinois ******* istant coaches Geoff Alexander and Orlando Antigua have reached the "travel abroad" portion of their summers. Both were in Turkiye at the end of June for the FIBA U17 World Cup, and other FIBA events will have the two cycling back and forth between Champaign and The Continent.
Alexander and Antigua got a look at a pair of Illinois recruiting targets in the Class of 2027 during their time in Istanbul, with Team USA guards Cayden Daughtry and NaVorro Bowman Jr. playing key roles in another dominant performance by the U.S.
Wednesday's 141-85 win against Cameroon pushed Team USA to Friday's quarterfinals where they'll meet ******* XXX. The 56-point margin of victory has been fairly standard for the U.S. since a 115-84 win against France on the opening day of the tournament. The U.S. also beat ******* an 128-66 and Italy 131-80 in pool play.
Eight players putting up double digit scoring averages has helped Team USA average just shy of 129 points as a team thus far in its tournament run. Daughtry and Bowman are part of that high-powered offense. Daughtry is averaging 11.5 points, 5.8 ******* ists and three rebounds as the backup to starting point guard Beckham Black. Bowman is also averaging 10.8 points, 3.3 ******* ists and 2.8 rebounds off the bench.
Team USA, which is 55-0 all-time in FIBA U17 World Cup action, is now just three wins away from its eighth straight gold medal dating back to 2010. The most recent, in 2024, was led by four recent first-round NBA draft picks (AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer, Chris Cenac Jr. and Koa Peat) and four of the top 2027 draft prospects (Caleb Holt, Jordan Smith Jr., Brandon McCoy and Tyran Stokes).

Pochettino was also visibly frustrated with the U.S. media following his side's 3-2 defeat to Turkiye in the dead-rubber group-stage finale, particularly when questions arose about his future despite having already secured the USMNT's place in the knockout rounds.

San Francisco Bay Area Stadium hosts the World Cup last 32 on Thursday morning as USA take on Bosnia-Herzegovina, with a place in the round of 16 against Belgium or Senegal at stake.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side topped Group D with six points, beating Paraguay 4–1 and Australia 2–0 before rotating wholesale for a 3–2 loss to Türkiye in a dead rubber. The Stars and Stripes have not won a World Cup knockout match since 2002, and they have lost their last 12 meetings against UEFA nations.
Christian Pulisic is fit and expected to start for the first time since the opening group game against Paraguay. The AC Milan forward contributed to both of the USA’s opening goals in the 4–1 victory before a calf injury forced him out of the Australia match.
He came off the bench against Türkiye and immediately raised the quality of play around him. Pulisic told reporters on Tuesday he is “feeling good” and Pochettino has confirmed his inclusion.
Three players face fitness checks before the squad is finalised. Cristian Roldan has not played a single minute at this tournament due to a muscle injury and remains a significant doubt, though he is not in the projected XI regardless.

The United States is coming down with World Cup fever, as the demand for tickets is at an all-time high.
The USMNT are set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup. Despite a surprising loss to Turkiye, the hosts have been in good form to start the tournament.
Despite the supposed lack of popularity of the sport in the country, the demand to see the USMNT take the field is at a record high.
According to data from TickPick, the get-in price for USA’s Round of 32 fixture against Bosnia and Herzegovina at Levi’s Stadium is currently $1,274.
This makes it the third-most expensive event in the stadium’s history, only to be topped by the two Super Bowls it hosted in 2016 and earlier this year in 2026.

Germany fans are expecting the United States to advance to the quarterfinals of the World Cup at the very least. Well before their heartbreak against Paraguay, Mirror US caught up with fans outside Boston's Gillette Stadium to gauge their opinions on the USA as a competing nation at the World Cup. Most were impressed.
Mauricio Pochettino's side secured top spot in the group following victories over Paraguay and Australia. Nine changes were made for the match against Turkiye, resulting in a 3-2 defeat. But in the grand scheme of things, it was not a major concern.
Bosnia is next up for the USA. A win there would set up a last-16 clash against Belgium or Senegal. Should they advance past that hurdle, Spain or Portugal would likely await in the quarterfinals.

While Alisson Becker and Brazil were able to celebrate early on Monday after a strong second half helped them to get past a determined ****** an 2-1 and progress to the Round of 16, that would prove to be the high point of the day for Liverpool's players at the 2026 World Cup.
The day's first Round of 32 tie was followed by Germany taking on Paraguay, with the UEFA giants one of the pre-tournament favourites and Paraguay the worst of South America's offerings at this World Cup and a side lucky to be in the knockouts at all. In group play they had been hammered by the United States, struggled to create anything in a nil-nil with Australia, and managed to eke past a Turkiye in turmoil with a 1-0 win.
That got them third in the group and a slot against Germany in Boston, and as expected Paraguay played a tight and defensive game and didn't create much of anything. Neither, though, did Germany, struggling more with Paraguay's low block than even Liverpool last season.
It was Paraguay who went up first when Julio Enciso scored late in the first half, going up for a free header six yards from goal when Germany fell asleep in open play shortly following a corner. Kai Havertz levelled early in the second half but even after that it rarely felt like Germany deserved to get the winner as the game dragged towards extra time and then penalties where they lost.
It was penalties in the day's final game, too, but the route to getting there was far more competitive and provided some of the best football of the tournament. Where Germany vs. Paraguay had been an underdog in a low block and a favourite failing to break them down and almost seeming to give up, Netherlands vs. Morocco was a clash of heavyweights.

The United States men’s national team have captured the imagination of the American people at the 2026 World Cup.
Even though soccer is not as popular as American football or basketball, tens of millions have watched the World Cup.
As well as superstars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, viewers have also been drawn to the USMNT’s successful start.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side won their first two matches against Paraguay (4-1) and Australia (2-0), finishing top of Group D.
The USA did lose their final group match to Turkiye (3-2) last week, but that has not dampened the supporters’ spirits.

A reporter who went viral for proudly claiming that she didn’t know where Bosnia and Herzegovina was on a map has since apologized.
Abigail Velez, a reporter and fill-in anchor for ABC 7 in Los Angeles, made the comments ahead of the upcoming Round of 32 matchup between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the U.S. men’s national team. A clip of the segment went viral, with critics pointing to Velez seemingly being proud of her ignorance.
As a result, Velez walked back her words in a statement posted to social media on Saturday.
“In a poor effort to have a little fun with World Cup competition, I took it too far and made a thoughtless comment on air that was insensitive and inappropriate. I apologize to the people of Bosnia and the Bosnian Football team,” Velez said in the statement. “The World Cup is supposed to be about uniting communities around the world, and my comment didn’t reflect that spirit.”
Velez’s comments had come as part of a spot from Long Beach in the wake of the USMNT’s loss to Türkiye on Thursday. The U.S. won the group in spite of the loss, setting up the matchup with Bosnia and Herzegovina in Santa Clara.

United States Men's National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino opted against taking any chances in his team's final FIFA World Cup group game against Turkiye on Thursday, despite the result having no bearing on their tournament progression or group placement.
The Argentine tactician has made nine alterations from the side that secured a 2-0 victory over Australia last Friday in Seattle, with only midfielder Weston McKennie and forward Ricardo Pepi keeping their spots. Pepi's inclusion comes with an asterisk, however, as he slots in only because captain Christian Pulisic is sidelined with an injury picked up in the World Cup opener.
Former USMNT defender and fiercely patriotic FOX ****** yst Alexi Lalas has consistently pushed for Pochettino to maintain the team's momentum, pointing out that the United States has never swept all three World Cup group stage matches.
