Linebacker Kain Medrano is ready to get on the field at Commanders training camp.
Medrano was placed on the physically unable to perform list to open camp, but the team announced that he has been activated on Monday morning. Medrano has been dealing with a hamstring injury.
Medrano was a sixth-round pick last year and he appeared in nine games as a rookie. He had five tackles and a fumble recovery while playing exclusively on special teams.
Washington still has cornerback Trey Amos, defensive end Dorance Armstrong, and defensive end Deatrich Wise on the PUP list. Punter Tress Way is on the non-football injury list.

After two in-house friendlies, it was time to get on the road for a game against Fiorentina – in-front of a crowd for the first time since Mourinho's return. The Real Madrid XI: Lunin, Alexander-Arnold, Rivas, Martínez, Carreras, Camavinga, Valverde, Güler, Dumfries, Ciria, Endrick.
The first half was the best friendly display I have seen in some time. Madrid took to the occasion and peppered Fiorentina with waves of possession and chances to score. Dumfries was deployed in an advanced role, ahead of Trent – and saw plenty of the ball. Endrick would score the first goal, before Castilla gem Alexis Ciria doubled the lead. Fiorentina pulled a goal back just before the break.
Fiorentina made more changes over the break and into the second-half, but the tide turned as they scored the equaliser through Moises Keane. Madrid seemingly stepped off, and the game looked more even as result. 2-2 at full-time, and another good workout in the lungs filled with both positives and food for thought. The NFC South has become one of the NFL's most competitive divisions in recent years, but Bleacher Report isn't convinced it's one of the league's best.
In a preseason ranking of every NFL division, Kristopher Knox placed the NFC South eighth, making it the lowest-ranked division heading into the 2026 campaign. The ranking factored in last season's results, offseason additions and departures, and each team's placement in Bleacher Report's latest power rankings.
Knox acknowledged that every team in the division has reasons for optimism. He pointed to Atlanta's additions of head coach Kevin Stefanski and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, New Orleans continuing to build around young quarterback Tyler Shough, and the Buccaneers addressing their pass rush by signing Al-Quadin Muhammad and drafting Rueben Bain Jr.
Tampa Bay also found itself on the list of the division's biggest offseason losses. Knox highlighted the departures of longtime franchise cornerstones Lavonte David, who retired, and Mike Evans, who left in free agency, as significant changes for a team looking to reclaim the NFC South crown after its four-year run at the top of the division came to an end.
Despite ranking the NFC South last overall, Knox doesn't believe the race will lack intrigue. He noted that Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa Bay and New Orleans all have a realistic path to contention if their quarterback situations develop as hoped. He also pointed out that the Buccaneers looked like one of the NFL's hottest teams before injuries derailed their season, leaving them with an opportunity to win the division until the final week of the year.

The signing of Eden Hazard at the time was huge, and he went on to be a great," Morris said. "For me, Hazard is the greatest individual player to ever play for Chelsea in terms of talent, though he's third on the overall list behind John Terry and Frank Lampard. Olise is the closest we would get to someone who can entertain the Stamford Bridge crowd while also producing numbers. The Buffalo Bills wasted no time in trying to fill the roster spot vacated by veteran wide receiver Jalen Virgil. With the team already losing wide receiver Tyrell Shavers to the Active/PUP list, waiving Virgil with a non-football injury (NFI) designation paved the way for the team to host several receiver prospects on Thursday, July 30.
Among those tryouts was wide receiver Dante Pettis, who ultimately signed a deal with Buffalo after Thursday's session at St. John Fisher University. Pettis, who turns 31 at the end of October, is a seven-year NFL veteran who until now spent his time exclusively in NFC.
The 6' 1", 200-pound Pettis originally entered the NFL as a second-round (44th overall) pick of the San Francisco 49ers during the 2018 NFL Draft. He made a meaningful impact as a rookie, catching 27 passes (45 attempts) for 467 yards and five touchdowns (per Pro Football Reference). Pettis was waived during his third season with the Niners, ultimately landing with the New York Giants, where he remained through the 2021 NFL season.
Pettis signed on with the Chicago Bears for the 2022 season, seeing his most significant involvement and production since that promising rookie campaign, catching 19 passes (41 targets) for 245 yards and three touchdowns; adding two rushers for 37 yards with the Bears.
Pettis also brings a bit to the table as a passer, having attempted and completed one pass for 16 yards each with the Niners (2019) and Giants (2021).

Bayside High football opened practice July 28 before the sun rose as the Bears begin preparation for their third season playing in the Sunshine State Athletic **** ociation.
Last year, Bayside reached the SSAA Atlantic state playoffs for the second year in a row. It finished the season 3-8 after losing to eventual state champions American Heritage (Delray Beach) in the first round.
"I think we had a rough year. We went to the playoffs and played a really good American Heritage team down there. They're heads and shoulders above where we are. That's kind of our goal to be like them," Bayside head coach Billy Miller said. "We feel like in our program we learn from adversity. That's what allows you to grow. When we're able to do that and apply that to this year, we feel like it's going to pay dividends for us."
Miller said he's been pleased with the offseason program and the work the players have put in. The Bears will be young this season with only a dozen seniors on the roster. Consistency will be the key, according to Miller.
"There were flashes last year where we looked really, really good and then there were times that we just looked like we had never seen a football," Miller said. "We've got to find that consistency and teach kids that come in and stack days. It's easy to be good one time, but it's difficult to be good all the time. That's a learned behavior."

"I want to show what I can do. I know what I can do and what I can't," Brown said at his presentation on Wednesday at Bayern's pre-season training camp in the Bavarian town of Rottach-Egern.
"The coach has already shown me what I do well. I've spoken with him a lot. I want to play as many games as possible, help the team, and ultimately win ***** les."
Brown will compete with Alphonso Davies for the left back position. The Canada captain has been plagued by injuries, but Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said they are not really considering selling him.
Brown made a big impression in Frankfurt which brought him into the national team, where he was among very few German players to do well at the World Cup where the team went out in the last 32.

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas has thrown his weight behind Indian batting icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, insisting that both veterans still have plenty left in the tank and should be part of India's squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The legendary Pakistan batter, popularly known as the 'Asian Bradman', dismissed concerns surrounding the duo's age and said their skill, experience and continued ability to score runs make them automatic contenders for the marquee tournament, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

"Both are very, very good in terms of skill and, given their experience, I don't see any reason why they should not play the World Cup. Age should not be a factor as long as they are fit and continue scoring runs," news agency PTI quoted Zaheer as saying on a Pakistani television channel.
Zaheer, regarded as one of Pakistan's finest batters after scoring more than 100 first-class centuries during his illustrious career, believes Kohli and Rohit possess qualities that only grow stronger with time.

According to the former Pakistan skipper, scoring runs becomes second nature for players of their calibre after spending years at the highest level, while their experience remains invaluable in major ICC tournaments.

He also ******* sed the fitness of the two Indian greats, saying Kohli continues to maintain exceptional physical standards.

"Kohli is still supremely fit, while Rohit just needs to pay a little more attention to his fitness," Zaheer observed.

The Pakistan great added that India would benefit immensely from having both veterans in the dressing room during the 2027 World Cup campaign.

His remarks come at a time when speculation over the future of India's senior stars continues despite both producing match-winning performances in the ODI format.
Zaheer reserved special praise for Rohit after watching the former Indian captain's recent century against England, saying the opener's batting remains a delight to watch.

"I watched Rohit score a hundred against England, and it is still a pleasure to watch him bat. He plays so effortlessly and with such sweet timing," he said.

Rohit's knock against England once again underlined his credentials in the 50-over format, while Kohli has also continued to deliver consistently, strengthening the argument that the experienced pair could still play a crucial role at the next World Cup.

Reflecting on the changing nature of modern cricket, Zaheer acknowledged that T20 cricket has introduced several innovative strokes into the game. However, he insisted that the fundamentals remain just as important, saying every batter aspiring to succeed across formats must master traditional shots like the cover drive and the cut shot.

He shared a photo of himself holding his hand to his head looking up at the camera smiling in the same way as James' famous "Smiling through it all! Can't believe this my life" Instagram story.

Auburn forward Keyshawn Hall signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Miami Heat shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 NBA Draft and would go on to play in five games with the Heat as part of the NBA Summer League earlier this month.
Usually, playing in the NBA Summer League is a clear sign that a player has exhausted his collegiate eligibility and has shifted focus to a professional career. However, that may not be the case for Hall.
Joe Tipton of On3 reported Thursday that Hall has been granted a fifth season of eligibility through a preliminary injunction, and will explore the possibility of signing with another program for his final season of eligibility.
The ruling most likely stems from the new NCAA eligibility ruling, otherwise known as the "5-for-5" ruling that allows athletes to play their respective sport for five seasons beginning when the athlete enrolls with a university as a full-time student, or the start of the academic year following the athlete's 19th birthday, whichever comes first. The rule allows student-athletes to compete for five seasons, virtually eliminating traditional redshirt rules and medical hardships.
If Hall signs with a program, it will mark the fifth program he has played for in five seasons. He signed with Auburn through the transfer portal last offseason after leading the Big 12 in scoring at UCF as a junior. Before his time in Orlando with the Knights, Hall started 28 games for George Mason after starting his career at UNLV.

Argentina's top football officials on Wednesday firmly denied reports that their federation's president and treasurer were detained and questioned upon leaving the United States after the World Cup final.
The Argentine Football ***** ociation (AFA) did, however, acknowledge a US investigation into a third party with links to the ***** ociation.
The organization issued a statement following media reports that its president Claudio Tapia and treasurer Pablo Toviggino had been detained at New York's John F. Kennedy airport before boarding the flight transporting the national squad home after their loss to Spain Sunday.
The pair were reportedly detained for questioning and had their electronic devices seized by US authorities, before being summoned to appear in court regarding AFA's international contracts.
But an AFA statement denied all of the reported claims as "absolutely false."

A new rumor suggests a three-time All-Star is interested in taking his talents to the Boston Celtics because of his friendship with top star Jayson Tatum.
This has been a very interesting offseason for the Celtics, to say the least. Of course, they made the stunning trade that sent MVP contender Jaylen Brown to the same team that beat them in the playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers. However, they also improved their frontcourt by selecting Chris Cenac Jr. in the NBA Draft and poaching Mitchell Robinson from top rival the New York Knicks. They also brought in greybeard guard Mike Conley.
Well, it looks like they could make another notable addition soon because three-time All-Star Bradley Beal could be headed to Boston, according to a new report from Jake Fischer.
"I do think there's some Miami interest there, and I would not rule out Boston for Beal because of the connection with Jayson Tatum."

ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel projected that a Mets starter, but not Peralta, has a 90% chance of being traded by the deadline this summer. That pitcher is former New York Yankees veteran Clay Holmes.

He has shot up this list because teams' interest in him runs deep -- and the only reason he's not higher than 90% to go is due to the possibility of him remaining in New York on a contract extension."

No one is better at indirectly calling Stephen A. Smith out for something he said than Jalen Rose, and he appears to be at it again.
Smith might be on summer vacation from First Take, but that hasn't stopped him from picking fights. Last week, Smith ignited a feud with Draymond Green and Jemele Hill after they questioned whether he should still be able to call himself an active journalist even though he no longer appears in locker rooms regularly. Smith went off on a rant where he mocked Hill's laugh and accused her of implying that she spent more time in locker rooms than he did, even though she never made that implication.
During his rebuttal, Smith threw out that he'd be willing to debate the topic with Hill or Green on one of their various podcast platforms. And shortly after the proposal, Jalen Rose went on social media to post a vague gripe about media members sparking feuds and then offering to hash it out on a podcast.
"The most phony thing amongst 'media' members is 'beefing' then saying I'll go on your show or vice versa to discuss it. (see chasing clicks). LAME," Rose wrote on X.
To be clear, Rose never named Stephen A. Smith, Jemele Hill, or any other media member in the post, but the timing was more than curious. And even if Rose wasn't talking about Smith, the feud with Hill and Green must have prompted him to call it out as "phony."

The new ABC simulcast brought a record audience for the 2026 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Viewership was also up 209% compared to 2025, with an average of 1.6 million viewers on ESPN2.
The Hot Dog Contest viewership, albeit only lasting 30 minutes, was still strong compared to other sports on July 4th weekend. A similarly short MLB All-Star Selection Show, featuring a direct lead-in from the World Cup, averaged 5.9 million viewers.
Comparisons to previous years are affected by Nielsen’s shift to the new Big Data methodology, which has generally boosted live sports viewership, sometimes by as much as 15%. The increases for the Hot Dog Contest are so large compared to previous years that Big Data is unlikely to account for a 209% increase.

Indian Hill two-sport star Devlan Daniel has been invited to the USA Baseball 18U National Team training camp, to be held July 16-20 in Cary, North Carolina.
Should Daniel make the team, he will compete in the 18U Pan-American Championship, which will be played Oct. 22-29 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Daniel, a Mississippi State commit, was named to the 2026 All-Ohio Division IV first team and the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year after hitting .436 with five doubles, five triples, four home runs, 20 runs batted in and 35 runs scored. Indian Hill went 21-5 this past spring and finished as district runner-up. He is a two-time Cincinnati Hills League Player of the Year and led the Braves to the 2025 state tournament, their first appearance since 1993.
On the football field, Daniel has led the Braves to a 22-5 record over the last two seasons and an appearance in the 2025 Division IV state semifinals. As a sophomore, he ran for a school record 2,260 yards and 34 touchdowns while recording 42 tackles and two interceptions on defense. After switching to quarterback as a junior, he threw for 1,192 yards and ran for 1,116 yards and accounted for 34 total touchdowns.

The French Football Federation have failed in their attempt to have the yellow card shown to Michael Olise during their World Cup round-of-16 win over Paraguay rescinded, France coach Didier Deschamps confirmed on Wednesday.
Olise was booked following an altercation with Paraguay's Matías Galarza, who went to ground after the French attacker grabbed his shirt.
France subsequently appealed to have the Bayern Munich star's yellow card overturned – similar to how the United States had Folarin Balogun's red card rescinded ahead of their 1-4 round-of-16 defeat to Belgium – but without success.
"The yellow card has not changed. We were informed by FIFA this morning that it has been upheld," Deschamps said ahead of his team's quarter-final against Morocco on Thursday.
Bradley Barcola and Manu Koné were also booked for France during the game against Paraguay, who did not receive a single yellow card despite their aggressive style of play.
