CBS announced Monday that the newly enshrined Pro Football Hall of Famer will make his debut as a CBS game ****** yst in Week 3, calling Raiders-Saints from New Orleans alongside play-by-play voice Chris Lewis and sideline reporter Amanda Balionis.
A radio ****** yst for the Carolina Panthers, Kuechly's stock skyrocketed in recent months as he became Netflix's top NFL game ****** yst after auditioning with Noah Eagle at NBC's Stamford, Connecticut studios in early July. Eagle said Kuechly's football knowledge was never in question — that much was obvious from his playing days — but what stood out during their audition, a mock call of a game from the previous season, was how quickly he got comfortable in the chair given he'd never done the job before. Eagle told Sports Media Watch that it felt like Kuechly "could see things happening before they happen."
He justified that faith in his Week 1 debut, as Awful Announcing's Megan Armstrong wrote that he dazzled alongside Eagle in Melbourne, with the reaction across sports media running overwhelmingly positive.
The streamer is expanding its NFL package from two games to five this year, including the opening-week matchup in Australia, a Thanksgiving Eve game, and a Saturday night game in Week 18, and Kuechly is expected to anchor most of that slate. Between Netflix and his new CBS ****** ignments, he's on pace to call somewhere in the range of eight to 10 games as a game ****** yst this season, on top of his usual Sunday work as a Panthers radio ****** yst. Kuechly is also replacing Bill Belichick opposite Peyton Manning on The Breakdown.

Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker officially introduced himself to the grander college football world as a budding superstar on Saturday in his team's upset home win over No. 6 Oregon.
Taking down the Ducks is no small feat, particularly for an unranked program like the Cowboys. However, Mestemaker's heroics and stellar stat line (317 passing yards, two touchdowns; 109 rushing yards, one touchdown) buffeted a Cowboys offense that scored 39 on Oregon's vaunted defense.
One touchdown saw Mestemaker quite literally take air and fly into the end zone, which feels like the defining moment of his college football career so far. It's a majestic play; no wonder the NFL may be keen on this guy.

Over the last calendar year, the Chicago Bears have become a serious team led by a serious head coach in Ben Johnson and a serious quarterback in Caleb Williams. Which means that the world of ****** ytics in football will be more relevant for them in 2026 than we have perhaps seen in years past.
While not as robust (or widely utilized) as their counterparts in the baseball world, advanced stats have progressively become more relevant for the NFL and its players in recent years. Pro Football Focus is sort of a driver of this increase, and it's here that we begin our journey into this world.
PFF, as it's known colloquially, ****** igns a grade for every action that a player completes on the field. These grades occur on a scale from +2 to -2, with zero representing the average in between the two ends of the spectrum. These grades don't just occur in a vacuum, either. Positional context and the game situation itself are each taken into account as part of where a given play lands on the scale.

A 24-year-old man accused of taking part in a series of high-end home break-ins in the Philadelphia suburbs appeared in a Montgomery County courtroom Thursday.
Jabir Hanif Parker is accused of burglarizing homes from June through August, focusing on master bedrooms and closets in search of expensive jewelry, watches and other valuables.
Investigators say the cases involve three residential burglaries and an attempted burglary at the home of Eagles star Saquon Barkley in Malvern.
Two homeowners were home during the incidents, including Barkley and his family, while two were not.
Authorities say the crimes were sophisticated and appeared to involve planning.

Miami star receiver Malachi Toney has a big new NIL deal to show off just before the 2026 campaign officially begins for the Hurricanes. He's now got an endorsement deal with Adidas.
According to a post on social media from Nice Kicks, Toney signed with Adidas, joining an elite roster that includes the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Fernando Mendoza, Travis Hunter and Jeremiah Smith. Daytona International Speedway had been unusually quiet Saturday night. Then, with five laps remaining, everything changed.
Carson Hocevar lost control of his No. 77 Chevrolet late in the ****** e Zero Sugar 400, slamming the outside wall before collecting Erik Jones in a violent crash that brought out just the third caution of the night.
The wreck instantly changed the complexion of NASCAR's regular-season finale after the field had spent much of the race avoiding the kind of late-race chaos that has become synonymous with Daytona.
Hocevar was racing in the pack in the closing laps when his car suddenly broke loose and shot toward the outside wall.
The No. 77 Chevrolet made heavy contact, and Jones had virtually nowhere to escape as the incident unfolded directly in front of him. Jones' No. 43 Toyota was collected in the crash and also sustained a significant impact.

The Cleveland Browns have until Sunday at 6:00 PM ET to make roster cuts and announce their initial 53-man roster. Some of those cuts or rumors about roster moves might leak early, though. The Browns may also announce them in waves — for example, some cuts may be announced Friday, some on Saturday, etc.
All players who are released with less than four years of service must go through waivers and are eligible to be claimed by any other team until 1:00 PM ET on Monday. After that, any unclaimed player can be signed and teams will begin to fill out their 16-man practice squads.
Veterans with more than four years of service can sign immediately after being released.
You can also use the comments section to discuss cuts around the NFL that may be of interest to Cleveland. According to FanDuel, the Browns are 225/1 odds to win the Super Bowl, heading into final roster cuts.

Former coach Urban Meyer understands Kyle Whittingham's point. He just thinks Michigan's new head coach is approaching the Ohio State rivalry with a little too much common sense.
After Whittingham rejected the idea that he needs to personally hate Ryan Day and Bryce Underwood called Ohio State "just another game," Meyer offered a very different philosophy. For the former Buckeyes coach, hatred does not have to be personal to be useful.
During a recent The Triple Option podcast episode, Meyer said he never personally hated Jim Harbaugh or Brady Hoke, but that distinction disappeared once Michigan became the opponent.
"Do I hate them? Absolutely, I hate them, and that's your job to hate them," Meyer said. "You got to play the game."
Meyer predicted Whittingham may develop more of that edge after his first trip to Columbus as Michigan's head coach. More importantly, he argued that a coach at either program has to understand what the rivalry means to the people around it.

Entering the summer, wide receiver John Metchie III was far from a lock to make the Carolina Panthers' initial 53-man roster. But now, it feels like he may be angling for more than just a spot on the program.
Bleacher Report's Moe Moton named the biggest winners and losers from Week 2 of the preseason. Metchie was listed amongst the former group following his productive performance in Carolina's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday night.
And with fellow wideout Xavier Legette currently dealing with an ankle injury, Moton opines that Metchie could even crack the starting lineup come September:
If Legette's injury lingers, Metchie could carve out a role in three-receiver sets alongside 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen ***** er. Because of the Panthers' injuries at the position, he's almost certain to make the roster after signing a one-year, $1.9 million deal in March.
That didn't seem like a realistic prospect when training camp began, as Metchie was one of a handful of receivers competing for the backend of a relatively crowded room. But the setback to Legette, as well as to 2026 third-round pick Chris Brazzell II, may breed some opportunity for the former second-round pick.

The announcements of Tigers finding their way on to watch lists continued on Friday. Princewill Umanmielen, Whit Weeks, and DJ Pickett were each named to the Bednarik Award preseason watch list.
The Chuck Bednarik Award is given annually to college football's best defensive player. The honor is presented by the Maxwell Football Club, the same club that bestows the Maxwell Award to the top overall college football player. Both are two of the most distinguished honors in the sport.
Named after Chuck Bednarik, a former All-American at the University of Pennsylvania and Pro Football Hall of Famer, the award is chosen by a wide variety of voters including NCAA head coaches, sports writers, sports casters, and the members of the Maxwell Football Club. It was established in 1995 and was won most recently by linebacker Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech.
Only two players in LSU's program history have earned the honor and they came in back-to-back years. Patrick Peterson won it in 2010, followed by Tyrann Mathieu in 2011.
Princewill Umanmielen came over with Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss and is poised to give Blake Baker a legitimate pass rusher, which they were missing a year ago. The senior defensive end was #3 in the SEC in 2025 with 9.0 sacks. The last time LSU had a player record at least 9.0 sacks was 10 years ago when Arden Key set the program's single-season record with 12.0. Umanmielen is also a force against rushing attacks, finishing #8 in the conference with 13.0 tackles for loss. He was a Third-Team All-SEC selection last year and has already been named to the Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team.

ST. LOUIS – As Rory McIlroy settled into a chair to be interviewed by Golf Channel's Kira K. Dixon, he summed up his bogey-free 6-under 64 at Bellerive Country Club on Thursday – good enough for a share of the lead with four other players at the BMW Championship — in one word.
"Unexpected," McIlroy, the world No. 2 and reigning Masters champion, said.
"I knew you had it in you," Dixon shot back with a smile.
McIlroy was coming off a dismal performance in the sweltering heat of Memphis at a TPC Southwind course that he's on record as saying isn't his cup of tea. The Northern Irishman got lapped by winner Scottie Scheffler, finishing 66th and beating just two players in the field who bothered to complete 72 holes.
McIlroy left Memphis deflated but he flew home and got back to work on Monday with his longtime swing coach Michael Bannon and caddie Harry Diamond.

For those wondering why Ilja Dragunov has been missing from WWE programming for months, there's apparently one very simple answer: ***** ytics.
Per WrestleVotes Live on Fightful Select, the Mad Dragon's name has reportedly not been mentioned backstage "in weeks," and one major factor for his ongoing absence is WWE's reliance on ***** ytics. Basically, WWE operates under a "Moneyball" approach these days, ***** ysing numbers, clicks, view time, etc when looking at which talents to feature on TV. As TC of WrestleVotes put it in regards to Dragunov, "they don't click on his name," and that WWE nowadays uses such ***** ytics "more than anyone will ever know".
It's not just Ilja Dragunov who's been impacted by this approach, as TC suggested the former United States Champion is one of several names in a similar position. Likewise, it was also pointed out that Ilja has minimal merchandise on WWE Shop, which makes it tricky for fans to order his merch when, well, there's only one Dragunov t-shirt to buy; a t-shirt that (potentially) ominously is on clearance right now, with nearly 50% off.
In the case of Ilja Dragunov, he last wrestled on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 42, where he was involved in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal that was won by Royce Keys. Since then, the 32-year-old Russian has been completely absent from TV. In fact, Ilja has only had eight main TV matches in 2026 so far, though he has also worked the odd WWE Main Event taping or live event match.
For those wondering whether there have been any injuries at play for Dragunov, all reports suggest he's been fit and healthy this entire time, and he's also been shown training at Natalya and TJ Wilson's Dungeon numerous times in the four months he's been away from TV.

As Hall of Famer Deion Sanders prepares for his fourth season as the head coach at Colorado, the Buffaloes are stumbling and ****** bling as a TV attraction.
Via Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, the ratings for Colorado games on ESPN fell 67 percent from 2023 to 2025.
It's no surprise. In 2023, Deion was the next big thing in college football — even as a 3-0 start melted to a 4-8 finish. In 2024, the Buffaloes turned it around, going 9-3 in the regular season. (The Buffaloes lost to BYU, 36-14, in their bowl game.)
Last year, without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, the backslide began. The Buffaloes went 3-9, capping the season with a five-game losing streak.
It's no surprise. Colorado hasn't parlayed the Coach Prime effect into the kind of recruits that can win more games than they lose. This year, the program is fighting a narrative that the players look too small.

O.J. Brigance, a former Baltimore Ravens linebacker and their longtime senior adviser to player development, has died, the team announced Monday evening.
Brigance battled ALS for the past 19 years. He was 56.
"For 22 years, we've been blessed to have O.J. as a teammate, friend and brother. It's a sad day, but also a celebration of all the gifts that O.J. bestowed upon our team and our city and the entire NFL community." Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement. "O.J. inspired us with humility, faithfulness, determination, competitiveness and love for humankind.
"We never once saw O.J. angry or frustrated by his disease. Instead, we all witnessed a hero who influenced so many people through his unwavering optimism and grit. O.J. Brigance is the definition of what it means to live like a Raven. I will miss his smile and the twinkle of joy in his eyes."
Brigance, one of the most revered figures in the organization and a source of inspiration to players, coaches and team officials, was diagnosed with ALS at age 38 following a seven-year NFL career with the Miami Dolphins, Ravens, St. Louis Rams and New England Patriots.

The Miami Dolphins may have left their visit with the Washington Commanders officially carrying a loss from their preseason meeting and unofficially from their joint practice, but an early preseason meeting isn't all about the overall stats. The Dolphins, the youngest team in the NFL, including 13 drafted rookies this year, are trying to establish a new identity under first-year head coach Jeff Hafley. After years of focusing on speed, finesse, and mismatches, Miami is now trying to bring back physicality.
According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel's David Furones, they showed it against the Commanders. When providing a review of the team's weekend in Maryland and Virginia, Furones highlighted Miami's improved physical play:

The Dolphins' first-team offensive line kept a clean pocket for Willis. That unit also got a push up front in the run game.
The two young guards, Kadyn Proctor and Jonah Savaiinaea, looked good in their first in-game action this season, so that's a plus. New reserve lineman Caedan Wallace had a nice day in his Dolphins debut after being picked up in a trade with the New England Patriots.
Physicality is one of the keys Hafley is trying to instill early on, and it's working.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Dalton Knecht don't appear to be a good fit.
The Tennessee alum showed flashes of an NBA-level sharpshooter in his rookie season, but fizzled out of the rotation in his sophomore year, spending most of his time either in the G League or warming the bench. That was despite Lakers head coach JJ Redick hyping him up as a key piece of their future on several occasions.
With 16 players on the roster, the Lakers need to trim the fat entering the new season. One intriguing Lakers trade idea won't cut down the roster size, but would add a piece that could really help Redick's team fill a void at the wing position.

About 80 runners took part in the Fans to 5k event in Lockleaze, North Bristol, through an initiative which was set up by football fans to help the health and fitness of football supporters.
Founder Grant Rees said: "Everyone can use this, everyone can be a part of it and represent their club and, the more miles you carry out, the more points for your club. But we cap it at five miles so that it's inclusive."
There are 840 supporters now signed up representing football clubs, rugby clubs, cricket clubs and community organisations across the UK.

Debbie Kent first went to the Lansing Laurels softball clinic when she was just 13. She was still too young to try out for the squad, but she became the batgirl.
Little did she know then that eventually she would become one of the best pitchers to ever wear the Laurels jersey, and now Kent will be honored as part of the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame's 2026 class.
"I found out that my friends had nominated me for it, and it's a great honor," Kent said. "I really am very appreciative of it. My teammates and coaches are really the ones who should be getting it."
As soon as Kent was old enough to participate during the Laurels clinic in the early 1970s, her pitching prowess was quickly noticed. She made the team and thrived on the mound from ages 16-18, and her entire family got to travel with her to see the Laurels play across the Midwest.
"That was the most important thing to me, having my family there to support me," Kent said. "We always knew when my dad arrived because he had a cowbell and he would start ringing it and you could hear it from two blocks away so everyone would know he was there."
