The North American automotive industry is facing a dramatic change in the operational environment this year, which is marked by increased financing barriers and ongoing consumer price sensitivity. Since average auto loan interest rates are still more than 8%, consumers are delaying expensive discretionary upgrades, extending payment terms, and challenging aggressive price hikes. Legacy OEMs have been forced to give up unrestricted EV capital expenditure targets because of the sharp slowdown amid an overall shift to electric vehicles. That said, not every auto manufacturer is performing on the same level, with General Motors Co (NYSE:GM) and Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) serving as a case study on these dynamics.
General Motors Co (NYSE:GM) produced an exceptional second-quarter performance that showed impressive operational discipline in the face of this demanding macroenvironment. Strong pricing power and unit volume across its high-margin full-sized pickup and SUV categories, such as the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Tahoe, drove GM's $48 billion quarterly revenue. Due to this legacy strength, North American operating margins reached 8.6%, which boosted adjusted earnings per share to $3.57 and resulted in a 41% year-over-year increase, significantly above Wall Street estimates.
Importantly, General Motors Co (NYSE:GM) showed that its multibillion-dollar effort to streamline its EV division and properly size battery joint ventures is producing immediate financial results, allowing executive leadership to raise full-year adjusted operating income (EBIT) guidance to between $14 billion and $16 billion.
Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) had a much more divided operating narrative. Despite exceeding consensus estimates with adjusted earnings per share of $0.42 and matching GM on top-line revenue at $48 billion, underlying segment performance revealed ongoing structural friction. Due to enterprise fleet demand and high-margin software subscriptions, Ford Pro, the company's commercial branch, continued to be a high-margin cash engine. However, the company's electric vehicle division, Model e, recorded a sharp $1.26 billion quarterly operational loss, severely undermining these gains.
Based on a comparative valuation ******* ysis, here is a clear disparity between market price and operational execution. General Motors Co (NYSE:GM) carries an EV/EBITDA multiple of 12.01x and a discounted forward price-to-earnings ratio of 5.96x. In comparison, while experiencing significant margin pressure from its Model E division and ******* embly delays, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) trades at a higher forward P/E of 7.88x and an increased EV/EBITDA multiple of 19.76x.

Max Allegri is eager to reunite with Federico Gatti, as it's reported Napoli asked Juventus to let the defender leave on loan with option to buy.
It is no secret that the Partenopei need reinforcements in defence, as Juan Jesus left at the end of his contract, while Alessandro Buongiorno will be out for at least two to three months following knee surgery.
A more expensive alternative is Benoit Badiashile of Chelsea, but the €30m asking price and reticence to let him go on loan with an option to buy make that difficult.

Instead, Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio claims this evening that Napoli have stepped up talks with Juventus for Gatti.

CHICAGO − Michigan football's first game in the 2025 season came against New Mexico, a relatively innocuous foe.
But former safety Brandyn Hillman didn't see it that way. In fact, after spending all fall hitting people at practice that wore the same colors as he did, the defensive back couldn't wait to knock somebody else around, especially a team that looked like New Mexico, wearing cherry and silver − not dissimilar to the scarlet and gray sported by the Wolverines' biggest rival.
"How I look at it is, they got the same colors as [expletive] Ohio State," he said of switching his mentality from hitting teammates to hitting opponents. "I just play it like that, to be honest."
For decades, "The Game" has been the most important week on the schedule in both Ann Arbor and Columbus. After Jim Harbaugh lost the first five matchups to OSU in the rivalry (and then U-M bowed out of the sixth in 2020 after an outbreak of COVID-19 in the locker room), he went into 2021 saying the Wolverines were going to beat Ohio State "or die trying."
U-M snapped a decade-long drought that year, which begun a four-year run, featuring two wins in each city. Fans want to hear that a coach is full of vitriol towards the Buckeyes, but when Kyle Whittingham spoke earlier this week at Big Ten Media Days, he didn't exactly play into the fans' emotions and match their energy for their rival.

She might not have got the gold medal she craved, but the Commonwealth Games have been an "amazing" experience for Summer Shaw.
The 22-year-old from Camberley in Surrey claimed Scotland's first judo medal in Glasgow by beating Botho Babutso of Botswana in the bronze-medal match of the 48kg event.
Shaw forced Babutso into submission with an arm lock to win by ippon inside one minute and 32 seconds, but her chances of gold were ended by India's Asmita Dey.
"I'll see her at the Games the next time in four years," Shaw jokingly said to BBC Sport Scotland about Dey. "She beat me on home soil, so I'll beat her on home soil.
"I'm a little disappointed, because I really came here wanting gold. I was number four in the competition, I lost to the number one seed, I was just so close to beating her. But it was so much fun. Just amazing."

Jake Paul wants Nate Diaz to be his opponent when "El Gallo" makes his cagefighting debut under the new MVP-PFL banner in early 2027. Probably because Diaz is 41 and held together by duct tape and Popsicle sticks. In addition, Paul already whooped Diaz in their DAZN boxing match in Dallas.
Paul's MMA debut was also "official" back in 2023 and never came to fruition.
"I've been talking about MMA and doing it for a long time, but it's official," Paul said in a social media video. "Now with this new partnership, I'm going to get into the cage. Nate Diaz, stop ducking. We need to make this happen for sports, to change the world, to change the history, and the landscape of combat sports forever. But don't worry, I am still boxing. Everyone's asking me, 'Jake, when are you coming back?' And it is as soon as possible. We are in contract talks and negotiations with multiple opponents, so it's time to box, and then kick Nate Diaz's ******* in MMA."
Diaz already turned down a $15 million offer to fight Paul in summer 2024.
Paul, 29, helped MVP merge with PFL for a combat sports entity that will allow fighters to box and fight MMA under the same banner. The new-look promotion does not yet have a TV or streaming deal in place but is expected to make an announcement on that front in the coming weeks, if not sooner.

Raymond Muratalla will defend his IBF lightweight ***** le against former super featherweight ***** list Robson Conceicao in the first-half of a world ***** le doubleheader this Saturday night on DAZN and TNT.
Muratalla, 29, is coming off of a career-best win over Andy Cruz, and Conceicao is definitely in what should be his declining years, but could this matchup contain some surprises?
by Scott Christ
Raymond Muratalla featured on Top Rank undercards for years, taking the little bitty steps that often come with Top Rank's more old school approach to matchmaking, which is also suited to their many non-blue chip type prospects, who need time to train, get better, and go fight-to-fight.
He took a decent jump in class against Zaur Abdullaev in May 2025, winning the interim IBF ***** le via wide decision, and then upset Andy Cruz with the full ***** le on the line in January of this year. That "upset" tag is maybe more dependent on our ideas of how good of a pro Cruz could be over what he's actually proven in the paid ranks, but either way it was an impressive performance by Muratalla (24-0, 17 KO), against a highly-skilled, in-prime opponent.

SEATTLE (AP) — Preliminary testing showed the bullets that killed two bystanders during a shootout at a crowded Seattle food festival last weekend didn't come from the gun a 15-year-old arrested at the scene was seen firing, police said in court documents filed Wednesday.
The teen repeatedly shot an untraceable ghost gun into a crowd, police said, and the King County prosecutor's office filed charges of first-degree ****** ault with a firearm and unlawful possession of a handgun.
In a statement supporting the charges, police said preliminary testing of bullets recovered from the two bystanders killed showed they did not match that weapon.
The shooting in the waning hours of the Bite of Seattle festival near the ****** e Needle left three people dead, including a 19-year-old suspect, and at least four bystanders injured, including a toddler. Police believe it was gang-related, and they continue searching for others who might have been involved.
Police Chief Shon Barnes had previously said there was possibly another person with a gunshot wound that investigators were looking to speak with, but the department said Wednesday there was no eighth victim.

VfL Bochum 1848 have officially confirmed the departure of Samuel Bamba who has made the move to CS Marítimo Funchal.
The Portuguese first division side, along with Rhurpott club Bochum, have agreed to keep the transfer fee entirely confidential.
Samuel Bamba initially moved from Borussia Dortmund's reserve team to Castroper Straße in the summer of 2024.
He made a total of 10 competitive appearances for Bochum's first team, including three matches for the U-21 side.
Thereafter, the 22-year-old struggled for game time, and last season he was loaned to Willem II Tilburg in the Dutch second division.

It would take a very clever person indeed to say at this stage where Ayyoub Bouaddi (18) will be playing in the 2026-27 season. Although he is reported to be very close to joining Manchester City – with whom he is said to have already reached an agreement – the Moroccan midfielder remains, for the time being, a Lille OSC player.
An important point that his chairman, Olivier Létang, present at a press conference on Friday, took great care to remind the media of. Whilst he explained that Ayyoub's situation had "not changed" since he last spoke in mid-July, and acknowledged interest from "very, very big clubs", the 53-year-old club executive was nevertheless keen to deny an "imminent deal with a club that plays in sky blue", despite reportedly having received several concrete offers – not just from Manchester City – since the transfer window opened.
"I told you last time that I thought Ayyoub (Bouaddi) was going to stay with us, and I still stand by that," he added. "The idea remains the same: to have a competitive team. If clubs come in at the end of the transfer window for a particular position and we're not in a position to replace the player, then we won't go ahead with the deal."
And although an offer of €100m – matching the player's valuation – would inevitably make him consider a move, Létang was careful to point out that the player's own wishes were also a key factor in any transfer.
"We're in regular contact with Ayyoub (Bouaddi); he's not in a hurry to leave, and he's very keen to stay here too. When you're 18 and at a club like LOSC, where you have the opportunity to play a significant number of matches – including in the Champions League – you naturally ask yourself, why leave now? […] I'll let him speak for himself when the time is right," he concluded.

He had also been heavily linked with Inter, and the subject of a pact of non-aggression between the two Serie A clubs for his signature.
However, when Inter withdrew their interest and instead focused on John Stones and Cristian Romero, it opened up the door for Como to resume negotiations.

Chelsea FC winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to make an immediate return to action after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) partially upheld an appeal against his four-year ban for doping.
The 25-year-old has not played a competitive match since November 2024 after returning an adverse finding for banned substance meldonium.
Having been provisionally suspended by the Football ****** ociation (FA), Mudryk was then widely reported to have been given a four-year ban – though appealed to Cas against that decision.
The body has now ruled that Mudryk can return "with immediate effect" after he accepted breaking anti-doping rules, and reached agreement on a suspension equivalent to time served.
Cas said the test displayed "a low concentration" of the prohibited substance. It added that changes have since been made to the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) technical document regarding meldonium, a cardiovascular medication.

After Chaos faceoff specialist Justin Inacio suffered a right knee sprain in Carolina's 13–12 overtime win over the Boston Cannons and was ruled out for the team's doubleheader in Columbus, general manager Spencer Ford chose not to sign another faceoff specialist to replace him.
Ahead of Friday night's matchup with the California Redwoods — who boast one of the PLL's top faceoff men in TD Ierlan — he explained why.
"There could be guys who could come in and possibly win, but there is not one person who can come and be the whole package for us," Ford said. "Could they get us 40%? Could they be great in the pick game when TD is working to get a switch for [Chris Kavanagh]? Can they stop TD from going forward? He has hurt us at that and usually scores a big goal. Can he be great on offense and enable us to play fast in the 32[-second shot clock]?"
Ford and the Chaos feel more comfortable staying in-house at the stripe with a rotation of offensive and short-stick defensive midfielders.
Ty English, Christian Scarpello and Ray Dearth – who took the remaining 23 faceoffs after Inacio exited against the Cannons in the first quarter – will continue to take a majority of the faceoffs against the Redwoods and the Philadelphia Waterdogs this weekend.

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is available to return to playing immediately after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) partially upheld his appeal against a four-year ban for doping.
The Ukraine international, 25, has not played a competitive match since November 2024, having been provisionally suspended by the Football ***** ociation the following month after returning an "adverse finding" for banned substance meldonium.
He was subsequently given the maximum four-year ban by the FA but appealed against the decision to Cas, who have ruled Mudryk can return to competition "with immediate effect" after he accepted breaking anti-doping rules and agreed to a suspension equal to the time already served.
Chelsea said they are looking forward to getting Mudryk back to "full fitness, back into the squad and back on to the pitch" and he will join their pre-season tour.

More details are emerging on Matias Soulé, as it's believed Roma want €30m plus €2m add-ons to make a sale, with the player proposed to Milan.
The Argentine is not part of Gian Piero Gasperini's plans this season, and with the arrival of Santiago Castro from Bologna, will have even less chance of playing time.
It has been said by several sources in recent weeks that Soulé and his agent have been shopping him around to various European clubs, with a particular focus on staying in Serie A for Milan.

Angel Reese had already established herself as one of the league's top bigs in her first two seasons in Chicago. The former LSU star was named an All-Star in both her rookie and sophomore campaigns, broke a litany of rebounding records, and showcased her force on both ends of the floor.
But this season, she's taken her game to a whole other level. While Reese's individual accolades with the Sky were impressive, the team around her struggled, and the Sky found themselves near the bottom of league standings in back-to-back seasons. In April, Reese was traded to the Atlanta Dream, a team that already found themselves among the league's best last year, but wanted to further bolster their frontcourt.
For the most part, it's been a match made in heaven. Reese is averaging 15.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 ******* ists, and 1.8 steals per game, and Atlanta is 17-10 and winners of four straight games.
This year, she became the fastest player in league history to record 1,000 rebounds (doing so in 78 games), and the fastest to reach 50 double-doubles (doing so in 65 games).
But, in part due to Reese's play, they've already accrued wins against top teams like the Dallas Wings (who they are 3-0 against) and the Indiana Fever (who are they are 2-1 against), among others. The Dream have outscored opponents by 99 points in Reese's minutes this season, the 21st-best net rating in the WNBA and the third-best on the Dream, per Hoops Junkie. Atlanta has had a rigorous schedule so far, and they have the third-easiest remaining schedule.

Kooper Deputy's quest for gold at the United World Wrestling U17 Freestyle World Championships came to a controversial end in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday with a 10-7 loss to India's Aaryan in the quarterfinal round.
The 16-year-old from New Paris trailed the Indian, who competes under a mononym, 10-5 with 25 seconds remaining. The U.S. Open champion worked a half-nelson and an arm bar but couldn't turn Aaryan until just over a second remained in the bout. The Indian turned at that point, and a screenshot from video appears to show Aaryan's shoulders completely flat on the mat with a second remaining on the clock.
Deputy was awarded two points for exposure but not the fall, and a pin cannot be challenged so the decision stood, giving Aaryan a 10-7 victory.
Deputy can still medal in the tournament. He'll need Aaryan to reach the championship match to be pulled into the repechage, which Americans often refer to as the consolation bracket.
Aaryan avenged an Asian championships loss to Amirali Ragheb by throttling the Iranian 10-0 in the opening round, then stunned European champion Huseyn Rzazade of Azerbaijan with a late comeback for a 6-5 victory.

The Los Angeles Lakers had one of the NBA's busiest offseasons, losing 22-time All-Star forward LeBron James at the outset of free agency before replacing him with a hodgepodge of players they felt could complement superstar guard Luka Dončić.
While LA has exhausted most of its resources to appease Dončić, including making an all-in push for a high-level starting center, franchise icon Shaquille O'Neal doesn't see a viable path to the 2027 NBA championship.
Despite its strong 53-win finish to the 2025-26 season, LA's ******* le contention hopes were thwarted by Dončić's absence (hamstring) throughout the 2026 playoffs. The shorthanded squad was forced to put an excessive workload on 41-year-old James en route to a second-round sweep at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Lakers' inability to match up defensively against OKC and lack of complementary scoring options contributed to James seeking greener pastures in free agency. The four-time MVP announced his exit in late June, eventually opting to join the star-studded Philadelphia 76ers out East.
Looking to pick up the pieces, LA had significant money to work with this summer, with James' expiring $52.6 million contract coming off the books. Rob Pelinka and Co.'s biggest move came when they parted with unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 and first-round swaps in 2028 and 2030 to land restricted free agent big man Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz on a four-year, $130 million contract.

Taylor's spell with PAOK has failed to fully take off and, following the arrival of new head coach Alessio Lisci, he is no longer believed to feature prominently in the club's plans.

HONG KONG – Everything is set at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, where Inter and Manchester City will face each other on Saturday at 19:30 local time (13:30 CEST) for an international friendly.
The match will be broadcast live on DAZN and on Sky, at no extra cost for existing subscribers, while non-subscribers will be able to watch via pay-per-view on OneFootball and DAZN.
On the eve of the friendly, Inter head coach Cristian Chivu answered questions from journalists at his pre-match press conference. Before doing so, however, the Nerazzurri coach paid tribute to Franco Baresi: "We join the world of sport in sending our condolences to Franco Baresi's family. Everyone who loves football has lost a great icon of this sport."
How important is it for you to be here, and what message do you want to send to the fans who are here in Hong Kong?
"It's truly a pleasure to be here, in this incredible place. We are in the preparation phase for the new season, but it is special for us to have the opportunity to play here against a great team like Manchester City. Even if neither team is at 100%, everyone will certainly be happy with the level of performance we try to produce on the pitch."

The 2026 FIFA World Cup was a rousing success, but it wasn't perfect. One standout hiccup was the final venue: New York/New Jersey Stadium, aka MetLife, which simply wasn't up to the standards of the world's biggest sporting match.
We've only just managed to catch our breath after a spine-tingling 2026 FIFA World Cup, and yet, the focus is already shifting towards the 2030 edition.
Like 2026, there will be three official host nations in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, but to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the tournament, the first three matches will take place in Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina — making this the first World Cup to feature across six countries and three continents.
But four years out from the competition, there is plenty still up in the air. It's uncertain how many teams will participate, and the final venue is still yet to be determined.
While Spain is confident of securing the rights to the final after the Santiago Bernabéu's €1.35 billion renovation, don't count Morocco out. The Hassan II Stadium is currently under construction just outside of Casablanca, and with a planned capacity of 115,000, it would be the biggest football stadium in the world upon completion.

Tennessee will kick off its 2026 football season with 11 linebackers on roster.
Senior Arion Carter returns for his fourth season. He will miss two games due to a NCAA violation suspension for a $427.48 flight, which he repaid, during the NFL pre-draft process.
"Arion Carter represents everything that is right about college athletics, dedicating all four years of his career to the University of Tennessee," Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said. "His high character, loyalty and leadership within our program are unmatched. Last December, Arion declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. He signed with an agent and accepted a $427.48 flight to begin the pre-draft process. He withdrew from the NFL Draft prior to the deadline due to a medical procedure and decided in his best interest to return to Tennessee for his senior season. Last January in good faith, he disengaged from the agent in terms of the NFL and paid back the flight in full.
"We disagree with the NCAA's ruling on punishing Arion with a multi-game suspension this fall. Arion made the right decision for his future health and well-being.
