July 28 (Reuters) - Royal Caribbean raised its annual profit forecast on Tuesday after beating quarterly estimates, sending its shares up 5%, even as it factored in a modest hit to bookings due to the travel disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict.
Geopolitical uncertainty linked to the U.S.-Iran conflict has made some travelers wary of booking cruises, hurting demand for certain itineraries and adding to fuel-cost pressures for operators.
Royal Caribbean said bookings for some sailings, including Mediterranean itineraries, have been modestly hit, primarily in the third quarter.
"When you include a cruise plus the airfare (to get to the ports), it's a little bit more costly (for American consumers)," CEO Jason Liberty said, adding travelers are either putting off their trips to next year or opting for the Caribbean instead of Europe.

The physical infrastructure enabling artificial intelligence requires considerably more than just high-performance accelerators and primary grid connections. It also relies on millions of high-density connectors, backplane interconnects, and power-filtering devices to connect rack-level structures, areas where TE Connectivity plc (NYSE:TEL) holds a significant bottleneck position. As hyperscalers and enterprise data center operators ramp up capital expenditure deployment around the world, demand for critical electrical connector systems has transformed from a passive secondary tailwind to a direct beneficiary of the AI growth cycle.
The company's fiscal third-quarter 2026 report showed this demand in real time, with record top-line performance, order velocity, and profitability. Despite exceeding Wall Street expectations in every fundamental indicator, shares fell roughly 7% following the release, indicating the market's focus on sequential forecast trends over historical trailing figures.
Operational execution in the third quarter set new highs across numerous business areas. Net revenue increased 14% year-over-year to $5.16 billion, above Wall Street expectations by more than 3%. Adjusted earnings per share rose 22% year-over-year to $2.94, exceeding the average estimate of $2.85. The report's defining metric was order flow, which increased 27% year-over-year to a record $5.7 billion, reflecting over $1 billion in incremental booking expansion vs. the prior year period. Meanwhile, profitability increased significantly, with adjusted operating margins improving 90 basis points to 22% and quarterly free cash flow totaling $883 million.
The underlying sector distribution highlights where AI momentum is growing the fastest. Industrial Solutions revenue increased 22% year-over-year to $2.58 billion, driven mainly by data center rack deployments and energy infrastructure growth. Chief Executive Officer Terrence Curtin stated that AI cloud momentum is far above initial multi-year predictions, with data center connection and power distribution orders rising more than 70% year-to-date.
Moreover, to back up its power-handling portfolio, TE Connectivity plc (NYSE:TEL) signed a $1.4 billion formal agreement to acquire Astrodyne TDI. The acquisition includes specialized power management and electromagnetic filtering solutions for critical industrial, semiconductor, and defense applications, providing approximately $250 million in annual revenue to the Industrial Solutions segment once completed.

The Philadelphia Eagles have long expected defensive tackle Jalen Carter to perform as one of the NFL's elite defenders. Now, they're paying him at that level.
On Tuesday, July 28, Carter and the Eagles agreed to a four-year, $152 million extension, according to multiple reports. The agreement includes $106 million guaranteed, per reports.
The deal shatters the record for average annual value for a defensive tackle contract, which Jeffery Simmons set in June with his three-year, $105.8 million extension with the Tennessee ***** ans.
Carter is the second linchpin of the Eagles' line to sign a sizable extension this offseason after fellow defensive tackle Jordan Davis in March agreed to a three-year, $78 million pact.
Carter, 25, had two years remaining on his rookie deal after the Eagles in April exercised his fifth-year option.

A commercial shake-up at the top of world football could reshape what attending and watching future World Cups actually looks like for supporters.
Gianni Infantino seems ready to treat the World Cup less like a football tournament and more like a private equity play. The idea is to spin off FIFA's biggest events into a new entity, selling stakes and bringing in big names to fund the whole thing.
Once private cash starts calling the shots, don't be shocked if the World Cup bloats to 64 teams or gets shuffled into desert winters whenever profit targets demand it.
And Infantino's reward for orchestrating it all? Stepping sideways into a chief commissioner role with an NFL-level $64 million annual payday.
We should have seen this coming after the interference from Gianni Infantino and Donald Trump during the 2026 World Cup, with his administration being approached over the matter.

The PGA Tour has begun revealing which tournaments will become Championship Series events in 2028 when a new two-track model is implemented.
First up for the PGA Tour's top-tier Championship Series is the Travelers Championship, which has been played annually at TPC River Highlands just outside Hartford, Connecticut, each June, typically the week after the U.S. Open. Since 2023, the Travelers has been one of eight $20 million signature events on the PGA Tour. The announcement was made on Monday.
In 2028, the PGA Tour Championship Series will comprise roughly 15 regular-season events, in addition to the four major championships, Players Championship, and playoff events. Purses for the PGA Tour-operated events (the non-majors) will be at least $20 million, with some tournaments like the Players and a revamped Tour Championship offering even more prize money. The second-tier Challenger Series will comprise at least 20 events, each offering much lower purses of at least $4 million. Both series will run from approximately February to August, and will include annual promotion and relegation between the circuits.
"Right now we have 47 events at the PGA Tour—we'll have 47 events going forward," PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said when he unveiled the plans for the new scheduling model in June. "That current model serves roughly 230 players. We'll serve that amount of players, the same. We are just organized now in a more simple understanding competitively so our fans can understand it, our partners know what they're getting as far as value. So we think we've just organized the same tour into a much more interesting and competitive system."
The second confirmed Championship Series event will be sponsored by Sompo, a ***** anese insurance and financial services firm, the PGA Tour announced on Tuesday. The event's market has yet to be determined, though. In 2027, Sompo will back a full-field (non-signature) PGA Tour event at Silverado Resort's North Course in Napa, California, July 29 to Aug. 1—effectively replacing the Rocket Classic in Detroit, which is leaving the PGA Tour schedule after this season. In 2028, the Sompo event will relocate to a new market as part of the transition to the Championship Series.

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football led the Big Ten with three players on the conference's annual preseason honors list.
Hoosiers defensive tackle Tyrique Tucker, wide receiver Charlie Becker and linebacker Rolijah Hardy made the 12-member team, as voted on by the media.
Tucker, the lone JMU transfer left on coach Curt Cignetti's roster, will be in Chicago this week representing IU for Big Ten Media Days. He jumped into the starting lineup last year and earned All-American honors, while anchoring one of the most disruptive defensive fronts in the country. Hardy, who started last year as well, led the Hoosiers in tackles (102) and sacks (8.0).
On offense, Becker emerged in the second half of last season as one of the country's most talented playmakers with 34 catches for 679 yards and four touchdowns. He's generating buzz as a potential first round draft pick after his star turn in the College Football Playoff.
Here's a look at the Big Ten's full honor's list:

Just a few weeks ago, only a handful of members of the U.S. women's hockey team were expected to attend the ESPYs, the annual awards show honoring the year's biggest athletes, teams and moments in sports.
By Wednesday afternoon, many more of the reigning Olympic gold medalists were swapping jerseys for gowns inside a midtown Manhattan penthouse. Champagne was flowing. Hair and makeup artists buzzed around the room. Defenseman Mariah Keopple, who also works as a stylist, helped teammates put the finishing touches on their looks before they headed to the awards show, airing live Wednesday night from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City.
It wasn't exactly the typical pregame routine for one of the world's best hockey teams. And none of it would have happened without an unlikely benefactor: Flavor Flav.
The Public Enemy legend learned last week from U.S. captain Hilary Knight that only a handful of players had been invited to the ESPYs, where Team USA is nominated for Best Team following its dramatic gold-medal victory at the 2026 Winter Olympics. For Flavor Flav, the solution was simple: "I got you."
That promise quickly snowballed.

Detroit — The stars are set to take their swings at the Rocket Classic.
Several local sports celebrities will play alongside PGA Tour golfers at Detroit Golf Club during Wednesday's annual pro-am tournament, which is open to the public and free for fans.
Among the celebs scheduled to play are Lions legends Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, new Michigan head football coach Kyle Whittingham, former Michigan State basketball greats-turned-broadcasters Greg Kelser and Steve Smith, current Red Wing Alex DeBrincat, former Lion Joique Bell and Oakland head men's basketball coach Greg Kampe.
There might be more celebs participating, but those are the ones Rocket officials have publicized. Notably, Red Wings captain (for now) Dylan Larkin's name isn't on the list. He's played in previous pro-ams, including last year's. Larkin hasn't spoken publicly since requesting a trade earlier this offseason.
During the pro-am, four amateur golfers team up with a PGA Tour professional in a handicapped best-ball tournament. Each team gets ***** igned two PGA Tour players, with each of the pros playing nine holes. It's a pretty casual setting for the pros and celebs, and one of the best times for fans to score autographs during Rocket Classic week.

The "NFL Top 100 Players" is an annual NFL offseason tradition. There are a few names from the Kansas City Chiefs expected to make the cut, but there are also many opponents featured in this year's rankings. Player No. 59 is a player they are scheduled to see across from them this coming season.
No. 59 is Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.
Nix started all 17 games for the Broncos in 2025, finishing with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for 3,931 yards. He set the record for the most wins in a single regular season by a Broncos quarterback with 14 while tying Russell Wilson for the league record of the most wins by a quarterback through two seasons with 24.
Nix and the AFC West rival Broncos will play the Chiefs twice in the 2026 season. They will play in Week 1 on Monday Night Football, September 14, at Arrowhead Stadium, and in Week 8, on November 1, at Empower Field at Mile High.
Produced by NFL Films and the X Original Series, the new season of NFL Top 100 features short-form episodes that reveal the league's top players, as voted on exclusively by current NFL players. Episodes debut on X on weekdays through Friday, September 4, and will air later on NFL+, as well as on other NFL-owned and operated social media platforms.

The annual preseason Big Ten football poll has been revealed, and the Wisconsin Badgers are outside of the top 10.
In an 18-team conference, the Badgers found themselves earning 207 points, which is good for 12th place, according to cleveland.com.
Team ranked below Wisconsin include: UCLA, Northwestern, Maryland, Michigan State, Rutgers, and Purdue.
The Boilermakers sit at last place with just 45 points, so it's optimistic knowing Wisconsin gets to play them this season.
Even after winning the National Championship, Indiana only sits at No. 3. Their 509 points weren't good enough to take down No. 2 Oregon (527 points) or the expected No. 1 Ohio State (540 points).

Sources with knowledge of the situation have passed along that a new contract agreement could indeed be struck as early as this week. I'm told that Green and the only NBA team he's ever known have discussed various structures to keep the defensive ace in place. One option is a one-year pact that would pay a similar dollar figure to the $27.7 million player option that Green declined to give the Warriors added flexibility to try to win The LeBron Sweepstakes. Another option is a multi-year deal that comes in at a lower average annual value for the 36-year-old.

On the latest episode of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart took aim at Donald Trump's rambling speech during the White House Correspondents' Dinner. The president spoke for nearly an hour during the annual event, which was rescheduled for Friday night after a gunman fired shots inside the Washington Hilton in April.
Stewart played a clip of Trump attempting to make a joke during the speech, which drew silence from the audience at the WHCD. "Normally I'd say, 'Don't quit your day job,'" Stewart said. "But in this case I will make an exception."

It's no secret how badly Bayern Munich wanted to sign Nick Woltemade, but there was a ceiling to what they were willing to pay in order to get him. Apparently, that ceiling was offensive to VfB Stuttgart chairman Alexander Wehrle.
According to a report from Goal, Wehrle took a "swipe" at Bayern Munich during the club's annual general meeting, addressing both transfer negotiations and fan support.
Speaking to club members, Wehrle revisited the high-profile transfer saga involving the striker. Despite rumors that Woltemade had previously settled on personal terms with the Bavarian giants, Bayern's valuation peaked at €60 million, considerably less than the selling price. Stuttgart held firm on their evaluation of at least €75 million for the attacker before eventually reaching an agreement with Newcastle United, who met, and exceeded, their asking price. Wehrle dismissed any notion that Stuttgart was acting out of spite towards Bayern, explaining that the financial proposal from Munich amounted to little more than "a ****** er pretzel."
The Stuttgart executive also took a direct jab at the atmosphere created by the traveling support from Munich. Reflecting on their DFB-Pokal final clash in May, Wehrle claimed that their supporters completely dominated the stadium, and that he couldn't hear any Bayern fans in attendance.
Stuttgart's firm negotiating stance ultimately secured a record fee from the Magpies. But on the other hand, Wehrle's cheeky comments regarding fan noise were clearly designed to rally the local faithful, after his statements were met with "thunderous applause."

Cavaliers reportedly meeting with ex-Warriors champion Jonathan ***** inga to gain edge over Lakers originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers are doing everything they can to convince Jonathan ***** inga to join their respective organizations. As a restricted free agent, ***** inga's future is complicated by the Atlanta Hawks, who still have significant control over the process.
The Lakers have been pursuing ***** inga since the beginning of the offseason, and at one point it appeared they were well-positioned to get a deal done. However, ***** inga was not interested in Los Angeles' initial contract offer.
"The Lakers could've signed him to a 2 year, $20M deal. He was not interested in that. I've heard he's been looking for closer to $20M AAV... There's a gap," Lakers insider Jovan Buha said.
Since then, ***** inga's free agency has become one of the most intriguing storylines of the offseason. The former NBA champion is reportedly seeking a contract worth more than $20 million annually.

Generating $48,000 annually requires capital ranging from $400,000 at a 12% yield to $1,371,000 at 3.5%, depending on your chosen income tier.
Dividend growers like KO and MCD have multiplied payouts many times over decades, making them stronger inflation hedges than high-yield funds with flat distributions.
Aggressive-yield vehicles like covered-call funds and mortgage REITs frequently return capital rather than grow it, causing gradual principal erosion even as distributions arrive.
Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
Replacing $4,000 a month in take-home pay through dividends means generating $48,000 a year without touching principal. That number sits close to the $68,391 per capita disposable income the Bureau of Economic ******* ysis reported for the first quarter of 2026, and it is well within reach for anyone with real capital and a coherent yield strategy. The question is what yield you accept, and what you trade to get it.

BTCI's monthly payouts dropped from $1.04 to $0.65 in 2026, shrinking the forward yield to 8% versus a misleading 40% trailing headline.
Down 23% year to date with a -2% average annual return since inception, BTCI cushions Bitcoin losses but cannot prevent negative total returns.

The NEOS Bitcoin High Income ETF (CBOE:BTCI) markets itself as a way to earn equity-like income from Bitcoin's volatility. BTCI pays monthly, uses a synthetic covered call overlay on Bitcoin exposure, and has distributed at rates translating into a headline yield well above 15%. This piece examines how BTCI generates that cash flow, whether the current distribution level is durable, and what trailing price action reveals about total returns.
This Bitcoin-oriented vehicle holds BTC exposure indirectly rather than through spot coins. According to the fund's holdings snapshot, roughly 56% of **** ets sit in U.S. Treasury bills, with Bitcoin exposure coming through positions in iShares Bitcoin Trust (roughly 13%) and VanEck's HODL (roughly 7%). The manager writes call options on Bitcoin ETFs and may layer in bear call spreads, a structure described in fund coverage as a synthetic covered call approach. BTCI's design aims to generate income while maintaining indirect exposure to Bitcoin price movements.

S&P Global's composite PMI climbed to 53.6 in July, its highest reading in eight months, signaling roughly 2% annualized GDP growth in Q3.
Rising input costs, supply chain disruptions, and the fastest selling-price increases in years give the Fed little reason to cut rates before 2027.
Companies with strong balance sheets, free cash flow, and pricing power are best positioned to outperform in a higher-for-longer rate environment.

The biggest question facing investors today isn't whether the U.S. economy is slowing -- it's whether it's slowing enough for the Federal Reserve to finally begin cutting interest rates. New data suggests the answer may be no.

Warren Buffett stands as one of the most celebrated investors in history. Under his leadership at Berkshire Hathaway beginning in 1965, the investment conglomerate delivered a compound annual gain of 19.7% through 2025, almost double the S&P 500's (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) 10.5% average annual return over the same period.
That performance turned modest early investments into generational wealth for patient shareholders, validating Buffett's reputation for focusing on long-term value rather than short-term profits.

One tool the Oracle of Omaha has long employed for gauging the health of the stock market is the aptly named Buffett indicator, which compares the total value of U.S. stocks to gross domestic product (GDP). Its currently elevated reading raises questions about whether stocks are outrunning underlying economic growth and what that could signal for future returns.
The Buffett indicator is a ratio between the aggregate market capitalization of all publicly traded U.S. companies -- typically captured by a broad index such as the Wilshire 5000 -- and nominal U.S. GDP. This metric offers a snapshot of how large the stock market has become relative to the size of the economy that ultimately supports corporate profits.

Micron Technology has been on a tear on the stock market in 2026, with its shares almost tripling this year, as of this writing. However, the memory specialist's gains have been eclipsed by a 242% surge in shares of Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL).
Dell stock has benefited from a significant acceleration in revenue and earnings growth this year, primarily fueled by booming demand for its artificial intelligence (AI) servers. The good news for investors is that it isn't too late to buy Dell, as it is trading at an extremely attractive valuation even after its stunning rally in 2026.

A post asking whether 20,000 XRP is enough for retirement savings drew heavy criticism on X, exposing how far optimistic price targets sit from current reality.
The debate cuts to a question every crypto holder eventually faces: how much is actually enough?
A savings threshold is the portfolio size needed to generate a reliable income without depleting the principal. Jake Claver, chairman of DAG Family Office, applied that idea to XRP holdings this week.
His scenario rested on a single ***** umption. If XRP reached $100 per token, a 20,000 XRP position would be worth $2 million. From there, the math looked simple enough.
A conservative 5% annual return on that sum would produce roughly $100,000 in pre-tax income each year.

WASHINGTON – Six weeks after he was hospitalized for a fall and pneumonia, Sen. Mitch McConnell's doctors still have not medically cleared him to return to work or leave a rehabilitation facility, the Capitol physician's office said.
Since June, the Kentucky Republican's health has been a source of widespread speculation and interest. He has missed 38 roll call votes in the Senate, including on key measures such as the annual defense policy bill and ending the Iran war, as well as high-profile confirmation hearings for crucial Trump nominees like Todd Blanche, who is awaiting a vote to become the next attorney general.
All summer his office has provided only limited updates on his condition. But in a statement July 27, McConnell, 84, said he was still having "intense physical therapy" and wouldn't be able to travel to western Kentucky for the annual Fancy Farm picnic, a marquee political event in the state.
"As always, I appreciate all of your continued well wishes, and I'm looking forward to getting back to the Senate and to Kentucky soon," he said.
The Office of the Attending Physician, which provides medical services and guidance to members of Congress, said the lifelong effects of McConnell's bout with childhood polio continue to be a "significant factor in his mobility." Doctors visit with him every day.

While markets data shows that the global market for dining out is projected to grow from $1.9 trillion now to more than $3 trillion by 2030, many individual chains that were popular in another era are struggling to survive amid changing consumer trends.
U.S. chains like Smokey Bones, Peet's Coffee, and Joe's Crab Shack have collectively closed dozens of locations this year. Meanwhile, over in the United Kingdom, Leon and The Real Greek both nearly halved their store locations in 2026 despite once going through a period of rapid expansion that made them well-recognized chains in the country's major cities.
With the first location opening in the Greater London borough of Enfield in 1974, the restaurant chain Beefeater has, over several generations, earned a reputation for being a family-friendly steakhouse chain serving grilled steak cuts, burgers, and fish and chips at more accessible prices.
At its peak, the chain had approximately 140 standalone and Brewers Fayre brewery-attached locations in the United Kingdom and Ireland. But amid soaring operating costs the hotel and dining company Whitbread confirmed plans to shutter all remaining 106 restaurants by September.
Earlier in the year, Whitbread announced a restructuring plan that aims to bring down annual costs down costs by £250 million ($333 million USD).

The "NFL Top 100 Players" is an annual NFL offseason tradition. A few names from the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to make the cut, but many opponents are featured in this year's rankings. Player No. 66 is a player they are scheduled to see across from them this coming season.
No. 66 is Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London.
London started 12 games for the Falcons in 2025 and finished with 68 receptions for 919 yards and 7 touchdowns. London and the Falcons will host the Chiefs in Week 10 on Sunday, November 15, at Mercedes Stadium.
Produced by NFL Films and the X Original Series, the new season of NFL Top 100 features short-form episodes that reveal the league's top players, as voted on exclusively by current NFL players. Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol built his reputation at Chipotle Mexican Grill by following one formula: fix operations, rebuild customer traffic, and wait for margins to follow.
That playbook produced a stock return of more than 770% during a six-year tenure that more than doubled annual revenue and saw restaurant-level margins climb from about 19% to nearly 29%, Chipotle's quarterly results showed.
Less than two years into his role at Starbucks (SBUX), the early data suggest the same recovery pattern is emerging across the chain's U.S. locations.
Customer visits are rising, same-store sales have accelerated for three consecutive quarters, and the company recently raised its full-year earnings outlook.
The stock sits near a 52-week high, however, and the market has priced in a completed turnaround that hasn't reached the income statement yet.

Three total market index ETFs dominate the do-it-yourself investor's shortlist for whole-market US equity exposure: Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (NYSEARCA:VTI), iShares Core S&P Total U.S. Stock Market ETF (NYSEARCA:ITOT), and Schwab U.S. Broad Market ETF (NYSEARCA:SCHB). All three charge 0.03% in annual expenses, hold thousands of US stocks, and post nearly identical trailing returns.
The one-year numbers cluster tightly: VTI at around 21%, ITOT at roughly 21%, and SCHB at about 21%. Over a 30-year holding period, small structural differences in index depth, tax treatment, and ecosystem fit start to matter, and picking the wrong container for the same underlying market can quietly cost meaningful compounded dollars.

Scribe Therapeutics has raised close to $129 million in the first initial public offering for a developer of gene editing medicines in more than two years.
The startup on Thursday sold 8.58 million shares at $15 apiece, topping projections set earlier this week. Shares will begin trading Friday on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol "SCTX."
Biotech IPOs have been on an upswing in 2026. Including Scribe's offering, 14 companies have priced new stock issuances this year, already surpassing last year's anemic total and putting the sector on track to surpass the annual numbers logged between 2022 and 2024, according to BioPharma Dive data. Aside from Scribe, six more biotechs have revealed plans in July to go public, suggesting activity could pick up considerably in the weeks ahead.
Notably, most of the sector's recent IPOs have been unusually large. Prior to Scribe's, companies had been pulling in a median of over $300 million per offering in 2026, far higher than what's been observed in recent years, data show.
