The Hollywood darlings share the common ancestors Ezra Perry and Elizabeth Burgess, 17th-century British settlers in Massachusetts, through Sweeney's father, Steven Sweeney, and Monroe's biological father, Charles Stanley Gifford, according to the online genealogy company.

Some of the biggest and most popular chains, such as Pizza Hut and Papa John's, plan to close 100s for restaurants in 2006 to rid themselves of properties that have become a financial burden.

The U.S. Coast Guard on Sunday suspended the search for six people in a medical jet that went missing near Nantucket, Massachusetts, a day after debris from the plane was found.
Search and rescue crews operated for approximately 66 hours to locate four Canadians and two Bermudian nationals on the plane that was traveling to Boston from Bermuda early Saturday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Canadian-registered air ambulance jet had four crew members and two passengers aboard. Their next of kin have been notified, the Coast Guard said.
Earlier, the Coast Guard confirmed that a debris field belonging to the missing Gulfstream G-100 was found Saturday night. The search for the missing passengers continued overnight off the coast of Nantucket, according to the Coast Guard's Northeast District, and spanned 4,445 miles before it was suspended.

Astronomers say they have directly detected the first-ever radio emission from a planet outside the solar system. The signal, however, is evidence of a colossal magnetic field — not intelligent life.
“I know radio signals are **** ociated with searches for extraterrestrial intelligence,” said Edo Berger, a professor of astronomy at Harvard University. “But this is something very different.”
The discovery, described in a new paper awaiting publication in a peer-reviewed journal, traces repeating radio bursts that appear to come from the exoplanet Beta Pictoris b, located 63 light-years from Earth — a short distance, astronomically speaking. The gas giant, about 12 times the mass of Jupiter, is one of three planets orbiting a young star that is 1.75 times as massive as the sun.
Processes **** ociated with the planet’s magnetic field produce the radio emission, according to Berger, a researcher at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ben Affleck once escaped a terrifying teenage mugging after recognizing the boys holding him at knifepoint. Years later, he learned one of those boys had killed someone and served 20 years in prison.
The actor recently revisited the encounter while reflecting on his childhood in Cambridge, Massachusetts. What began as a frightening walk home eventually became a memory that followed him into parenthood.
Affleck shared the story during an interview with Kerry Washington on her Street You Grew Up On podcast. He recalled walking home from high school at around 15 when two boys in hoods crossed the street toward him. Affleck initially considered running but decided against it. "They pass me, grab me, take a knife out: 'Gimme your money,'" he recalled. "And I was like, 'Oh!' I was scared."
The situation changed when Affleck recognized the teenagers from playing baseball. The boys also recognized him, turning the encounter from a mugging into a strange neighborhood exchange. "So I was like, 'I guess I'm off the hook?'" he remembered. Affleck later discovered that one of the boys had taken a much darker path. "That kid who robbed me ended up three or four years later killing somebody with a knife and going to prison for 20 years," he said.
He also admitted that he never told his mother about the incident. Affleck said he avoided worrying her and now regretted keeping difficult experiences to himself. "I didn't wanna worry her. I didn't wanna scare her," he explained. That silence became especially meaningful after Affleck became a father. "You guys know you can tell me anything. Anything! I'm so cool with anything you have to say," he recalled telling his children.

During a campaign stop Wednesday in Gastonia, North Carolina, to stump for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley, Trump resurrected a 1988 George H.W. Bush presidential campaign ad featuring Willie Horton, a Black man convicted of rape and ****** ault after his release through a Massachusetts prison furlough program.
A grainy black-and-white prison photo of Horton was used in the ad targeting then-Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, who was ahead of Bush in the polls. On Wednesday, Trump evoked the Horton ad in an effort to convince voters Democratic former Gov. Roy Cooper, Whatley's opponent in the Senate race, is soft on crime.
"Willie Horton was a bad guy, really bad guy," Trump said, before comparing Dukakis's release of Horton to the pretrial release of a Black man who faces a murder charge for last year's killing of a white Ukrainian refugee in Charlotte, North Carolina.

One of the 11 jurors who wanted to find Massachusetts mom Lindsay Clancy not criminally responsible for killing her three children said the panel viewed the case as a chance to make things "better for other women" and families — a thought process that one legal ****** yst is calling "problematic."
"Even though we didn't know what was going on outside of our little bubble that we were in, we knew that this was a turning point, and this would be something that could change something to make it better for other women in the future, for other families," 65-year-old Clancy juror Paula Devlin told "CBS Saturday Morning" over the weekend. According to Devlin, before the 11-1 deadlock that led to a mistrial, the jury had been split eight in favor of finding her not criminally responsible, two were undecided, and the holdout and one other juror were leaning toward a guilty verdict.

MONTREAL (AP) — Chris Kreider agreed to terms on a contract for this season with the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday after mutually terminating his previous deal with the Anaheim Ducks earlier in the week.
Kreider, a Massachusetts native, wanted to get back to the Eastern Conference to be closer to family after playing last year in Southern California following a trade from the New York Rangers. The 35-year-old winger joins a young team that is coming off reaching the East final before losing to eventual Stanley Cup champion Carolina.
Kreider has been booed in Montreal since colliding with Carey Price during a playoff series with the Rangers in 2014. Price did not play again that spring because of a resulting knee injury.

Boston College will host Rutgers for their annual Red Bandana game on Friday night in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. In a tradition that honors Welles Crowther, a Boston College graduate and volunteer firefighter who died saving lives in the South Tower on 9/11.

BOSTON (AP) — The highest court in Massachusetts on Thursday issued a public reprimand against a district court judge who was accused of allowing an immigrant to escape U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.
The case dates back to 2018 when Judge Shelley Joseph was accused of colluding with the immigrant's attorney and a court officer to allow him to escape out a back door of the courthouse after a hearing on charges that included drug possession.
The decision by the Supreme Judicial Court follows a recommendation for the reprimand by a hearing officer for the Commission on Judicial Conduct. It concluded that Joseph created the appearance of impropriety and failed to comply with the law.
"The respondent's statements during that conversation, including her proposal to detain (the immigrant) overnight in State custody, and her conduct in instructing the clerk to turn off the court room audio recording system, created an appearance of impropriety in violation of her duties," according to the Supreme Judicial Court ruling.
Joseph's attorney, Elizabeth Mulvey, argued at the commission hearing last year that the case had been distorted over time and that everyone had come to believe that her client "let an illegal immigrant out of the door" with half the public believing she should be jailed and the other half calling her a "folk hero."

Northern Kentucky University's men's basketball program announced its full slate of non-conference games with the Norse set to host five games at Truist Arena.
Northern Kentucky opens the 2026-27 season in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, taking on UTEP as part of the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon. The Norse will stay in the Mount Rushmore State for a matchup with South Dakota on Nov. 4. As previously announced, NKU then heads to College Station, taking on Texas A&M on Nov. 6. It marks the first time the Norse have played Texas A&M since the 2017-18 campaign. Northern Kentucky wraps up its four-game road trip to open the season at Chaifetz Arena, where they'll take on Saint Louis on Nov. 10.
Both Texas A&M and Saint Louis reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
Then, the Norse start a four-game homestand leading into Thanksgiving, opening their home schedule on Nov. 14 against Central Michigan. Last season, NKU beat the Chippewas by 24 in Mount Pleasant. Northern Kentucky will then host Georgia Southern on Nov. 23 and Bellarmine on Nov. 25 as part of a a multi-team event with those teams playing each other at Truist Arena Nov. 24. Northern Kentucky's matchup with Georgia Southern will be the first in program history, while this season's matchup vs. Bellarmine marks the 80th all-time, with the Norse leading the series 45-34.

The anticipation for the season has finally come to an end and most of the teams played as advertised. However, some teams hit the snooze **** on and it took them a moment to get into the game. Here is the Big Ten Roundup of each game involving a Big Ten Conference team.
Rutgers started the season off with a loss as the Minutemen dominated the Scarlet Knights from start to finish. The turning point in the game came in the second quarter as the Scarlet Knights turned the ball over twice, which gave Massachusetts the chance to create a massive 17-point second lead entering the second. Rutgers could be in for a long season.
The Golden Gophers flew past the Panthers with ease as they controlled the game on offense, defense and special teams. Senior wide receiver Javon Tracy started the Golden Gophers season with a bang with two punt return touchdowns to cap off Minnesota's exhilarating blowout.
The Fighting Illini's new senior quarterback Katin Houser took over Illinois' offense exceptionally as they moved up and down the field at will. Illinois' defense also held strong as they limited the Blazers' scoring opportunities with senior linebacker Ismael Kante getting a late-game pick-six.

"I have an enormous amount of sympathy for the three little innocent kids who were slaughtered," he said earlier.

The announcement landed three weeks after the company posted first-quarter fiscal 2027 results on August 4, showing sales climbing even as profit slipped. Together, the two headlines capture where ePlus stands right now: reaching for new growth in cloud and security while working through pressure on its existing business.
Daymark, founded in 2001, built its business serving highly regulated, data-intensive industries including energy and utilities, healthcare, life sciences, defense, and financial services. Its core capabilities span modern data center infrastructure, cloud, Microsoft 365, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and cybersecurity, and its status as a Microsoft Tier 1 Cloud Solution Provider slots directly alongside ePlus' existing Azure and Microsoft 365 professional and managed services work. The acquisition also gives ePlus a deeper foothold in the New England region, particularly metropolitan Boston. CEO Mark Marron framed it as a way to gain a specialized Microsoft team that could serve as a catalyst for growth across Azure, Microsoft 365, security, and Copilot.
The timing lines up with what was already ePlus' fastest-growing segment. Managed services revenue rose 15.1% to $51.3 million in the first quarter, the segment's first quarter above $50 million, with gross profit up 11.3% on that growth. Daymark, founded in 2001, built its business serving highly regulated, data-intensive industries including energy and utilities, healthcare, life sciences, defense, and financial services. Its core capabilities span modern data center infrastructure, cloud, Microsoft 365, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and cybersecurity, and its status as a Microsoft Tier 1 Cloud Solution Provider slots directly alongside ePlus' existing Azure and Microsoft 365 professional and managed services work. The acquisition also gives ePlus a deeper foothold in the New England region, particularly metropolitan Boston. The timing lines up with what was already ePlus' fastest-growing segment. Managed services revenue rose 15.1% to $51.3 million in the first quarter, the segment's first quarter above $50 million, with gross profit up 11.3% on that growth. The balance sheet backs further moves like this one: cash and equivalents reached $448.9 million as of June 30, up from $410.8 million three months earlier, giving ePlus room for additional acquisitions, dividends, and buybacks. Management also pointed to record sales and a significant rise in booked and open orders, positioning the company for what it called a stronger second half.
The first quarter numbers show a company growing on top but shrinking underneath. Net earnings from continuing operations fell 5.4% to $30.3 million, adjusted EBITDA dropped 9.2% to $47.8 million, and operating income declined 9.6% to $38.8 million. Gross margin slipped to 23.3% from 23.9% a year earlier, with margin compression showing up across all three business segments rather than just one.
