An initial report by TMZ revealed Smith, 38, had been charged with first-degree domestic violence ***** ault, terroristic threats and first-degree false imprisonment, as appeared in his arrest report.
He had been booked at Sarpy County Jail on Monday 27 July at 8:44pm local time, and The Independent was told he would be in court at 8am on Wednesday morning for a bond hearing.
Here, his bond was set at $500,000, with Smith required to post $50,000 (10 percent of the bond) to secure his release.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average remained strong into the final moments of trading on Tuesday, but Micron Technology (MU) was among the memory-chip makers that got pounded. The Department of Energy/Energy Information Administration average weekly retail diesel price climbed 17.9 cents/gallon to $5.313/g, effective Monday but published Tuesday. It's the third consecutive week of an increase, tacking on 73.5 cts/g during that time.
But as a reflection of how volatile markets have been, the latest DOE/EIA price, even after such a steep slide, has risen to a level that is the highest since just June 8, when it was $5.21/g. It is just under where it was on April 27–$5.351/g–but since that day has experienced double digit increases or decreases eight out of the last 13 weeks.
Given the lag in retail changes, the price would not have been expected this week to reflect the sharp fall in futures prices that began when trading opened for the week Sunday evening U.S. time. That decline followed lower prices Friday that were seen not as a reversal of the market but more of a "breather" after several days of sharp increases.

Distressed investors are, by their nature, optimists. They must be, since they see bargains and opportunities where other investors fear to tread. True to form, recent conversations with a number of distressed players reveal a significant distressed opportunity set in the back half of 2026 in the face of a roaring US equity bull market and a vibrant US economy.
Beginning on a positive note, "the US economy is doing well and isn't likely to turn south in the next six to 12 months," says Jeremy Burton, managing director and portfolio manager at PineBridge Investments. Even the rise of oil prices isn't of great concern for Burton, as he believes that the hit to consumers from rising oil prices in one region of the country will be offset by a healthy oil-and-gas-based economy in another region. As a result, the opportunities are more sector-specific, he believes.
Concurring with Burton's relatively sunny view are Morgan Stanley strategists Vishwas Patka and Joyce Jiang, who, in a recent piece covering their mid-year outlook, said "capex growth and a resilient consumer support a stable macro environment with strong earnings, while attractive yields anchor robust [debt] demand." This bodes well for business growth and equity generally, the pair said.
That health is reflected in the numbers. PitchBook LCD reported on July 1 that the trailing 12-month default rate for the Morningstar LSTA US Leveraged Loan index was only 0.97% by dollar amount and 1.34% by issuer count. The default rate by count, including Liability Management Exercises (LMEs), was 2.77%.
But danger in the leveraged loan index lurks. The index's distress ratio by amount (defined as the share of loans trading below 80 cents on the dollar) rose 34 bps in June, to 6.87%. In fact, the distress ratio has trended higher over the past nine months after plumbing a near-term low of 2.59% in September 2025. The peak for 2026 is 7.23% in March, which was the result of six consecutive monthly increases and marked the highest level since the distress ratio hit 7.36% in December 2022, in the midst of a series of US fed funds rate hikes by the FOMC. Roughly 45% of the debt trading under 80 is in software-related sectors.

NEW YORK, July 28 (Reuters) - Global hedge funds are on track for another blockbuster year, as they look to surpass their returns from 2025 after an artificial intelligence boom buoyed first-half performance for money managers across most investment strategies, according to a Goldman Sachs note sent to clients that was seen by Reuters.
During the first six months of this year, hedge funds returned an average of 7%, well above the 10-year average of 4.1%, according to the Goldman report. Those returns have been exceeded only twice, during the COVID years of 2020 and 2021, when market volatility boosted returns for fund managers. It marks the sixth consecutive half-year period in which hedge fund returns exceeded their long-term average.
"Hedge funds broadly have successfully pivoted through the AI complex in the last few years, adeptly shifting exposures through the 'picks and shovels' of the AI boom, moving from semis, to power & data centers, and in the last 12 months decisively towards memory stocks," Goldman wrote.
Demand from allocators, or investors who back hedge funds, has also surged during this year, amid a broadening flow of capital into the industry.

As much of a gauntlet as USC's schedule is, it possesses a glaring omission: Notre Dame.
The news broke last winter that USC and Notre Dame had failed to reach an agreement to play what would be the 97th game in the historic series between the rival programs during the 2026 season. They have faced off in 78 consecutive seasons, excluding the COVID-19-affected campaign.
That streak is coming to an end this year. Previously, the series had only been paused for a three-year period that coincided with World War II and, as mentioned above, briefly for the pandemic.
When word got out about the newest hiatus in December, USC head coach Lincoln Riley blamed Notre Dame. He's not backing away from the sentiment he expressed back then.
