The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) introduced central contracts in 2000 as a way to give them more control over their best players.
Last week, the ECB issued 39 central contracts to men's players for the 2026-27 season. Of them, 30 were full central contracts; the other nine were development contracts.
For the 2025-26 term, the ECB announced their women's central contracts at the end of November. Then, 17 players were on full contracts and four players were on 'skills' deals, akin to the men's development contracts.
Should a player receive an ECB central contract, the ECB effectively becomes their primary employer ahead of the county side that they also represent.
It is expected that the ECB will pay most or all of a centrally contracted player's salary, although that will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Many cannot understand why Shea Lacey has not featured in the last four Manchester United games.

The Green Bay Packers' defense hasn't had Micah Parsons on the field this season. However, it found another way to shut the door on Sunday night. The Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys 23-13 at Lambeau Field, holding Dak Prescott to 34-of-54 passing for 258 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Notably, it was the third straight game Green Bay has held an opponent to 14 points or fewer, a feat that prompted former Packers QB Kurt Benkert to highlight Green Bay's defense on X.

Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was ejected from the Bills' Week 6 win over the Las Vegas Raiders for spitting on Raiders tight end Brock Bowers.
San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk chimed in and said this isn't new for the 28-year-old and accused Gardner-Johnson of spitting on him during the 49ers' win over the Chicago Bears last season.
"This is the least surprising thing ever," Juszczyk posted on Twitter above a clip of the ejection. "(Gardner-Johnson) spit on me last year when we beat Chicago."
Gardner-Johnson pleaded his case to officials that he wasn't spitting on Bowers, but it was clear he did something in the direct vicinity of the TE that caused an official to immediately throw a flag and eject the eight-year veteran.
It's also not a surprise Juszczyk and Gardner-Johnson had a dustup last year. Gardner-Johnson and the 49ers have a bit of history starting in 2019 when Gardner-Johnson was a rookie in New Orleans for an epic 48-46 win for San Francisco. In that game Gardner-Johnson was hit with a 15-yard penalty for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Juszczyk.

Nashville SC is the first MLS club to clinch a spot in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. The team has guaranteed a finish no worse than third in the league's overall standings, with matches still remaining on the 2026 schedule.

CLEVELAND — A pivotal ALCS Game 5 that looked on paper like a premium pitchers' duel dissolved into something much different on Sunday, as the Tampa Bay Rays took down the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 at Progressive Field to move within one win of a World Series berth. While the final score suggests a closely contested ballgame, the tale of the two starting pitchers tells otherwise.
When the AL Cy Young Award is announced next month, it's a safe bet that Yankees ace Cam Schlittler will take home the honor. Toronto's Dylan Cease appears to be the likeliest runner-up. Beyond that, both Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen and Guardians rookie lefty Parker Messick have a strong case to be the third finalist, based on their fantastic regular seasons. Rasmussen ranked third in fWAR (5.0) and fourth in ERA (2.67) behind Schlittler and Cease; Messick ranked fourth in fWAR (4.9) and third in ERA (2.56).
These were the starting pitchers for Game 5 on Sunday. Rasmussen had tossed six innings of two-run ball in Game 1 — but in a Rays loss. Messick covered five innings and allowed three runs in Game 2 — but in a Guardians loss. With the series tied at two games apiece, Sunday's contest gave each frontline arm the tantalizing chance to push his club closer to the American League pennant.

For neutral observers hoping for maximum October drama, the blueprint for a best-case clash could be found in July, when Rasmussen and Messick traded blows in a 1-0 Rays victory at Tropicana Field. If a similar game were on tap Sunday — this time with supremely elevated stakes — that would mean a timely hit or two would be required to seize a narrow victory. Notre Dame's 28-24 loss to BYU on Saturday night was all kinds of hurt. As we pointed out earlier, there are layers to his kind of loss (and that was barely scratching the surface). Obviously a loss like that is going to affect the rankings and the chances to win a national championship. Right?
Well… maybe.
When the odds came out on Sunday, Notre Dame was one of the favorites to win the national championship. Some oddsmakers had the Irish having the nest odds in the country, but FanDuel Sportsbook had Notre Dame behind Ohio State — and now as of publishing this post, Georgia is ahead of the Irish too.
Betting odds aren't always the best predictors of future success, but it's quite something that even after a loss like the Irish just had to BYU — this whole season is still very much in play.
There are plenty of things we can rage about when it comes to this Notre Dame football team, but that is the case for most of the country as well. It's why a day like we just saw all over college football on Saturday happens. It's nuts, but that's what makes college football, college football.

Harry Kane has received another ringing endorsement in his bid for the Ballon d'Or, with England international Morgan Rogers arguing that the Bayern Munich striker has done more than enough to claim football's most prestigious individual honor.
Rogers believes Kane's accomplishments have pushed the boundaries of what could reasonably have been expected from him, pointing to his remarkable combination of club and international success.
"Harry Kane should win the Ballon d'Or. He defied what people can imagine that he could do. Treble, and hattricks in finals, Goals in the World Cup, goals for Bayern. What more can he do? That has to be rewarded," Rogers told Hayters TV (as captured by iMiaSanMia).
It is difficult to argue with the basic premise. Kane has continued to produce at an extraordinary level for Bayern while also delivering on the biggest stages for England. His ability to combine ridiculous scoring numbers with major trophies has strengthened his case considerably.
The Ballon d'Or debate will inevitably include several other elite candidates, but Rogers believes Kane's résumé speaks for itself.

Roger Clemens is not in the National Baseball Hall of Fame but he will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.
Clemens introduced Trump at a rally in San Antonio on Wednesday, with Trump dropping the announcement as the former pitcher stood nearby. During the announcement, Trump said he had played golf with Clemens earlier this year, which prompted him to call MLB commissioner Rob Manfred about his Hall of Fame case:
"We had a great time, he's an amazing guy. I said, 'I'm going to call the commissioner of baseball.' It's a ridiculous thing that you're not in the Hall of Fame with that kind of record. He won seven Cy Youngs!"
It's worth noting the MLB commissioner has no power over who gets into the Hall of Fame. That is determined first by voters from the Baseball Writers ******* ociation of America (BBWAA), then a committee of voters determined by the Hall of Fame itself.
Trump did successfully intervene on the part of the late Pete Rose last year, pushing Manfred to remove the league's all-time hits leader from the ineligible list. Clemens is not on that list, nor will Rose reach the Hall of Fame without a successful vote.

Newly obtained videos reviewed by ABC News show members of Cornell's Chi Phi fraternity being questioned by university police in the weeks after the alleged ****** ault.
One of the video shows Chi Phi members who were allegedly in the house that night, but not involved in the group ****** , telling Cornell University police they heard it was all consensual.
One fraternity member told police in the video that "what people were saying was that there was like multiple consenting adults in this room."

Mike Tindall takes a surprisingly formal approach when addressing his mother-in-law, Princess Anne. The former professional rugby player is married to the royal's daughter, Zara Tindall, and while most husbands refer to their mothers-in-law by their first name, he opts for a more traditional greeting.
When the 47-year-old appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain in 2024 with fellow former rugby pro James Haskell to chat about their podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, he explained about previously featured Princess Anne and the Prince and Princess of Wales as guests.

"They were amazing," Mike said of his in-laws before explaining why he wanted to bring them onto the podcast. "Rugby has been going through a tough time and we wanted to showcase why it brings people together from all backgrounds, it's such an inclusive sport, but it also creates great human beings," he said. "It was more important to showcase why they like sport, why Princess Anne has been a patron of [the Scottish Rugby Union] for 37 years and why she loves the characters in the game.

He's a welcoming and gracious host, no servants or ****** istants bustling about. Just Douglas padding around in his socks, still as slim, handsome, and charming as ever. Douglas makes me a coffee, and we sit down in a living room with a view of his two Oscars, an Emmy, and other awards. Between Douglas and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, the trophy case is so large it fills up a corner of the massive living room.

Kevin Hart faced a new development in his ongoing legal battle with former **** istant Miesha Shakes, who wanted Montia Sabbag to testify in the case.
Sabbag became involved in the comedian's 2017 **** tape controversy and later sued Hart. Shakes now wanted to question her about that episode and the investigation that followed.
According to court documents, Shakes identified Sabbag as a potential witness in the Kevin Hart lawsuit.
Sabbag previously filed a $60 million lawsuit against Hart in 2019. She alleged that he recorded their **** ual encounter without her consent. Hart denied wrongdoing, and the case was eventually dismissed.
As per TMZ, Shakes wanted Sabbag's testimony as part of a separate dispute involving a non-disclosure agreement.

On Tuesday morning, Meghan Markle shared a new video on her Instagram account, offering an insight into her ongoing business acumen, which started as a young girl, before she later launched her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
