1420 ET – Gold futures hold steady as a pullback in oil prices helps offset the impact of an inflation report that increased expectations for a Fed interest-rate rise next week. Front-month gold settles little changed on the day in New York at $4,366.20 a troy ounce, and is down 1.4% for the week. Gold and silver remain within a range of strong support, says Peter Cardillo of Spartan Capital, and if the Fed does raise interest rates next week “it’s symbolic since the bond market had already tightened.” Silver settles up 0.4% at $64.554 a troy ounce, down 2.3% from a week ago. 1306 GMT – Gold prices rebounded after oil prices fell more than 2.5%, easing some inflationary concerns. Futures in New York rise 0.3% to $4,422.40 a troy ounce, but remain on track for a weekly loss. U.S. consumer prices accelerated in August, bolstering market expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates next week. According to the FedWatch tool, traders are now pricing in a nearly 87% probability that the U.S. central bank will raise interest rates next week, from around 67% earlier on Friday. Still, “while the markets appear to be placing their proverbial bets on a hike, it’s likely that members of the FOMC won’t be quite as unequivocal,” says Kyle Rodda from Capital.com. “The doves on the committee, of which there are many, are likely to argue the case that the dip in annual core inflation justifies patience.” (giulia.petroniwsj.com)

The grocery giant now expects same-store sales excluding fuel to rise between 0.2% and 0.8% for the fiscal year, down from a prior range of 1% to 2% growth. The new guidance includes a hit of roughly 140 basis points tied to the Inflation Reduction Act, which ⁠lowered prescription drug prices for Medicare beneficiaries and impacted pharmacy revenue. Management separately reaffirmed its earnings guidance of $5.10 to $5.30 a share for the fiscal year.

Iowa State football wide receiver Evan Boyd exited Saturday's game against Iowa with an injury late in the first quarter.
The Michigan State transfer hauled in a six-yard pass on third-and-long and immediatley took his helmet off and grabbed his leg. According to the Register's ISU columnist Travis Hines, Boyd put zero weight on the leg when exiting the field. He did not immediately head to the injury tent or the locker room. He was being attended to by athletic training staff and had ice on his left knee while sitting on the bench.

AUBURN — Lightning's been detected within 8 miles of Jordan-Hare Stadium, according to the venue's public address, and fans have been asked to seek shelter in surrounding buildings.
Fans don't appear to be heading for the exits, but both Auburn football and Southern Miss have left the field and returned to their locker rooms. It was announced the start of the game — originally schedule for a 6:55 p.m. CT kickoff — may be delayed until the weather passes.
Auburn began its season with a 17-16 victory against Baylor last weekend, while the Golden Eagles also won their season-opener, 49-3, against Alcorn State.

Kirk Herbstreit has revealed his top three college football teams after an action-packed opening week. The ESPN ***** yst highlighted Miami, Indiana and LSU after seeing their new-look rosters make early statements.
Speaking on "The Stephen A. Smith Show," Stephen A. Smith asked Herbstreit to name the nation's best teams. Herbstreit immediately pointed toward Miami before naming the defending national champion and LSU.
"I got to start with Darian Mensah transferring over from Duke down to Miami," Herbstreit said. He praised Miami after the Hurricanes "just blew Stanford out of the water," putting them firmly in his early playoff discussion.

Tommy Bahama remained the strongest major brand for Oxford Industries, Inc. (NYSE:OXM), with sales increasing 0.8% and adjusted gross margin rising to 63.6% from 60.7%. FIFO inventory fell $9 million, or 4%, from one year earlier, reducing markdown exposure.

Federal prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a report by The New York Times.
The team is accused of circumventing the NBA salary cap involving Kawhi Leonard.

The New England Patriots might be without star wide receiver A.J. Brown for longer than hoped.
An MRI on Thursday reportedly confirmed that Brown had suffered a high ankle sprain, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. As a result, Brown is expected to miss at least four weeks with the injury, per Rapoport. High ankle sprains typically require four to six weeks of recovery.
Brown suffered the injury during the third quarter of Wednesday night's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, with the 29-year-old receiver grabbing at his lower left leg after an incompletion. Brown stayed down while athletic staff tended to him before he was helped off the field.
Given the recovery timeline, it's possible that the Patriots will choose to place Brown on injured reserve, which will require him to miss the next four games.

Safety Xavier Woods (groin) was added to the report as a limited participant. Left tackle Ozzy Trapilo (knee) was limited for the second straight day.
