Apollo Global Management warned Wednesday that credit default swaps on hyperscaler debt are pricing in more risk. Chief economist Torsten Slok tied the shift to weakening credit fundamentals rather than routine bond-dealer hedging.
Hyperscalers are the cloud computing giants, including Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta, that run the infrastructure behind the AI boom. They face a credit default swap (CDS) gap against bank debt, widened to about 60 basis points since October 2025.
Slok made the case in a Wednesday note reported by CNBC.
"What the market is repricing is hyperscaler credit fundamentals, namely a debt-financed AI capex cycle with rising leverage, negative free cash flow and uncertain payback on depreciating ****** ets."
Dan Alpert, founding managing partner of Westwood Capital, compared the setup to the run-up to the 2008 mortgage crisis. He said banks have since built far bigger equity buffers and are more diversified than they were then.

Bain Capital Ventures closed its 11th flagship fund at $1.6 billion on Wednesday, betting big on a "post-AGI world" that places AI agents as the chief economic driver of productivity.
The firm has been swapping software for something venture capital has never underwritten: AI-native companies that sell the work itself rather than the technology behind it.
Software startups made up 80% of Fund IX and around 20% of Fund X, said partner Matt Harris. For Fund X, AI-native startups made up 80% of the portfolio.
"The classic software startup is just not being born anymore," Harris said. "These companies where AI is just one feature among many, I think that's thoroughly uninteresting to us and, most importantly, to the most ambitious founders."
BCV defines "post-AGI" as AI agents being as productive as humans. This model's first proof point came in the form of Reserv, an AI-native insurance claims administration startup that the firm incubated with Altai Ventures and other partners. According to Harris, the company hit $100 million in revenue in its second full year. In May, the company raised a $125 million Series C.

Core & Main, Inc. (NYSE:CNM) reported quarterly sales of $2.145 billion on September 9, up 2.5%. Company-defined non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA reached $274 million. The measure adjusts consolidated net income for interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, equity compensation, debt modification and extinguishment losses, offering expenses, and specified other income or expenses.
Consolidated net income rose 6.4% to $150 million, while GAAP diluted earnings per share increased 10% to $0.77. Diluted weighted-average shares declined approximately 2.5% to 193.4 million. Buybacks amplified an improvement that also had an operating foundation.
The company repurchased $169 million of equity during the quarter, against $62 million of operating cash flow. The investment question is whether cash generation can sustain capital returns alongside the spending needed to grow.
Core & Main, Inc. (NYSE:CNM) benefits from demand for essential infrastructure products. Management highlighted municipal demand, fire protection, treatment plants, and data centers as areas of strength. These end markets provide several sources of business even when construction demand is uneven.
Expense discipline also helped. Quarterly selling, general and administrative expenses declined to $301 million from $302 million. Controlling overhead allows modest sales growth to contribute more to earnings. Stronger volumes would make further earnings gains easier to sustain.

Teck Resources Ltd (NYSE:TECK) stock's pullback from its Sept. 8 record high of $72.56 has found support at the 60-, 80-, and 100-day moving averages. The 100-day trendline in particular is a historically bullish signal that presents an intriguing 'buy the dip' angle.
Per Schaeffer's Senior Quantitative ******* yst Rocky White, TECK has traded within 0.75 times the 100-day moving average's 20-day average true range (ATR) after spending at least 80% of the previous two weeks and 80% of the prior 42 trading sessions above the trendline. This setup has occurred eight other times over the last decade, after which the stock was higher one month later 75% of the time, averaging a large 13.8% gain.
Short interest accounts for a healthy 7.5% of the stock's available float, leaving ample sideline buying power should some of these bearish bets begin to unwind. TECK's 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) of 28.4 also sits in "oversold" territory, which often precedes a short-term bounce.
Plus, TECK's Schaeffer's Volatility Scorecard (SVS) sits at 81 out of 100, suggesting the shares have tended to outperform options traders' volatility expectations during the past year.

Investors continue to ask for more timely information, even as the volume available to them expands. A 2026 CFA Institute survey of 2,500 **** ysts and portfolio managers found that 62% opposed replacing quarterly reporting with semiannual reporting. Nearly 85% expressed concern about comparability if companies and investment managers could determine their own reporting frequency and format. Access remains important, while interpretation requires a separate discipline.
The demand also concerns the quality of disclosure. PwC's 2025 Global Investor Survey, covering 1,074 investment professionals across 26 countries and territories, found that only 37% believed companies disclosed enough about artificial intelligence strategies and policies. Respondents wanted greater transparency around innovation strategies, AI investment, and expected returns. These findings suggest that investors can face abundant commentary while still lacking the evidence needed to **** s a thesis.
Commercial incentives add another layer. A 2025 CFA Institute report examined continuation funds, in which a manager can oversee both the vehicle selling an **** et and the vehicle buying it. The report recognized the structure's liquidity role and identified conflicts requiring fair processes and governance. The example illustrates why informed **** ysis and aligned incentives are separate considerations.
That distinction applies beyond any single investment structure. Managers often possess valuable operational knowledge because they work directly with **** ets, tenants and financing markets. They may also be raising capital for the strategies they discuss. Their commercial interest becomes additional context for investors weighing forecasts, market narratives and recommendations alongside independently produced evidence. That context can help an investment committee separate a source's knowledge of the market from the confidence it should place in the source's preferred outcome during capital allocation.
Geoffrey Dohrmann, chairman, CEO and editor-in-chief of Institutional Real Estate, Inc., has watched those narratives develop across several market cycles. IREI is a media and market intelligence company covering institutional real estate and infrastructure through publications, research, data, events and consulting. Autonomous vehicle company May Mobility is merging with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) and will become a publicly traded company. It's a deal that could raise more than $300 million for May Mobility at a valuation of $1.4 billion, the company said Wednesday.
Once the merger is complete, May Mobility said it will be the first public company in the U.S. that is focused entirely on autonomous ride-hailing vehicles. This is meant to differentiate it from a number of other public companies working on autonomy, including Tesla, Rivian, Alphabet (with Waymo), and trucking-focused Aurora and Kodiak.
The move sets up May Mobility to be a test of the stock market's appetite for pure-play robotaxi ventures.
It will also be a test of May Mobility's approach to autonomy, which it pitches as "asset-light" and "partnership-first." Instead of owning and operating the robotaxis, May Mobility's business revolves around selling its autonomous vehicles to its fleet partners over time while maintaining control of any remote supervision and software updates. In exchange, May Mobility receives either fixed fees or per-trip licensing fees.
Founded in 2017, May Mobility currently operates autonomous Toyota Siennas in three locations in the U.S. It has a partnership with Lyft in Atlanta, and offers rides in two cities — Eden Prairie and Grand Rapids — in Minnesota.

Top media leaders across print, digital and broadcast warned about AI's impacts on journalism at the inaugural Status Summit last week.
Why it matters: News publishers recognize that they need to embrace AI to survive the transition to an agentic web, but they refuse to broker deals with companies they feel are illegally scraping their content.
What they're saying: Speaking onstage to Status founder Oliver Darcy last Wednesday, New York Times CEO Meredith Kopit Levien said large language model developers "as far as we see it ... have engaged in theft of intellectual property and creative expressive work on a scale that is unprecedented."
As it relates to the Times, they've "stolen our stuff," she said.
The Times, which has sued OpenAI and Microsoft in a landmark copyright lawsuit, has struck partnerships with AI firms, such as Amazon, when they believe terms are equitable.

On September 14, Dave & Buster's Entertainment (NASDAQ:PLAY) reported second-quarter fiscal 2026 results that read like two different companies at once. Revenue fell, and the company posted a net loss for the period ended August 4, yet comparable sales, which had been sliding for more than a year, kept getting less bad every month from June through the first five weeks of the third quarter. New CEO Darin Harper is betting that improvement compounds into something bigger.
The clearest evidence is the trend line itself. Comparable store sales fell 5.4% in the first quarter of fiscal 2026, then 2.9% in the second quarter, then just 1.6% in July after a 5% decline in June, and Harper said trends improved further over the first five weeks of the third quarter. Food and beverage sales are moving in the opposite direction entirely, up 7.6% in the quarter and positive for five straight quarters, helped by the Eat & Play Combo, a bundled meal and game credit offer sold through kiosks. Special event sales have now grown for seven consecutive quarters.
Behind that shift sits a rebuilt leadership bench. Dave & Buster's went more than a year without a chief marketing officer, and Harper has since added a CMO, a chief operations officer, a chief technology officer, and a chief legal officer since taking over. The company also leaned on new content, launching 10 games and attractions this year, including tie-ins with Mandalorian and Grogu, John Wick and Stranger Things, after research found more than 70% of guests said new games would bring them back more often. Changes to game pricing pushed play and dwell time up 16% to 20% or more. Six remodeled stores are already outperforming the rest of the chain, and management says the newest remodel template costs less to build than the last one. Net capital spending dropped to $127.6 million through the first half of the year from $155.4 million, and adjusted free cash flow swung to positive $19.5 million from negative $36.5 million, a $56 million improvement.
The headline figures were still rough. Total revenue slipped 2.4% to $544.1 million from $557.4 million a year earlier, and adjusted EBITDA dropped to $98.9 million, an 18.2% margin, from $129.8 million and a 23.3% margin. On a GAAP basis, the company posted a net loss of $12.5 million, or $0.36 per diluted share, versus net income of $11.4 million in the same quarter last year. About $15 million of the EBITDA decline came from items management calls non-normalized, including a $10 million noncash deferral adjustment that did not repeat this year, $3 million in extra preopening costs and $2 million in higher insurance expenses, but even stripped of those, the underlying decline was still roughly $16 million.

Sept 16 (Reuters) - Surging government bond yields are raising credit costs across the U.S. economy and could factor into Federal Reserve monetary policy deliberations, but ***** ysts see the central bank resisting any explicit call from the Trump administration to bail out the market.
The focus on the Fed's possible involvement comes as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has taken an unusually activist role in trying to tamp down rising yields he considers to be misaligned with the U.S. economic outlook.
Bessent's campaign, which saw the expansion of a key debt buyback operation last week, is foundering, as the 10-year Treasury note rose above 5% to its highest since 2007. He shrugged the move off as owing to "global issues" on Tuesday as he arrived for a congressional hearing.
Treasury's bond market travails are raising questions whether the Fed might be requested to buy government debt to reduce supply, which could cap or lower yields, in turn easing government and private sector borrowing costs.

Nearly three-quarters of Gen Z healthcare workers intend to find a new role in the next year, according to a new poll of more than 1,500 U.S. healthcare employees.
The survey, commissioned by the Harris Poll found that less than half of Gen Z healthcare workers feel very loyal to their current employer, in part because professional development and career advancement feel out of reach.
At the same time, three-quarters of employers said retaining and recruiting this age group is important as they anticipate older healthcare workers entering retirement soon.
The poll comes as the healthcare industry is facing workforce shortages, with a projected scarcity of around 500,000 healthcare workers predicted by 2038. Currently, healthcare professionals, especially physicians and nurses, are mostly over the age of 50, opening the door for younger workers to fill the gap.

A small, spotted tiger cat from Bolivia may just be
the beginning of a wave of new small cat species.
In 2016, Paola Nogales-Ascarrunz, a biologist and National Geographic Explorer working in Bolivia, received a call from a local wildlife sanctuary that had just been given what they described as “a weird cat.” It came from a local man who found it as a kitten on a road near a forest. The man took the animal home, believing it to be a domestic breed. But after about a year of living with the clearly wild animal, he realized it would be better off at a sanctuary.
As the lead scientist and founder of the Bolivian Felids Research Program (Programa de Investigación de Félidos Bolivia), Nogales-Ascarrunz was intrigued. The animal had a small, scrunched-up face, short and round ears, and long whiskers. It was, indeed, too small to be a housecat, and, most notably, it was covered in leopard-like spots. So she went to visit the creature at the Senda Verde wildlife sanctuary on the subtropical flank of the Bolivian Andes.
“I took a hundred pictures of it,” remembers Nogales-Ascarrunz. “I was so fascinated.”
What she couldn’t know at the time was that this curious cat had a secret. It would become the first new species of felid (i.e. the cat family) discovered in over 100 years, according to a study published today in the journal Current Biology. What’s exciting is the discovery is not a validation of a species proposed in the distant past, nor a previously recognized subspecies raised to species status—which are both more commonly reported and important findings. No, this cat was something totally new to science.

the beginning of a wave of new small cat species.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) argued Wednesday that House GOP leaders sent the lower chamber home early because they found other Republicans in support of his push to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
“The fact that they didn’t vote on it tells me that they did a whip check, and they probably found that there were some other Republicans, besides me, that were going to vote for this, or at least didn’t want to be on the record supporting Hegseth,” he told host Kaitlan Collins on CNN’s “The Source.”
The outgoing Kentucky libertarian, a frequent critic of President Trump, introduced eight articles of impeachment against Hegseth on Tuesday.
Massie accused Hegseth of violating his “oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” citing his handling of the Iran war and operations to kill alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean.
The GOP lawmaker, who lost his primary in May to Trump-backed Ed Gallrein, also made his impeachment resolution privileged.

GENEVA (AP) — Human rights experts commissioned by the U.N.'s top human rights body say they have found "reasonable grounds" to believe the United States committed war crimes in two strikes in Iran, including on a school in the southern city of Minab.
The international fact-finding mission on Iran says the findings center on a pair of airstrikes that killed at least 178 civilians, including women and children.
At the start of the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran in February, at least one U.S. missile hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, according to an ****** ociated Press investigation. There has been no final accounting of what happened. Iranian state media have said 168 people were killed in the strike, most of them children.
"Following the United States and Israeli attacks on 28 February, the mission found reasonable grounds to believe the United States committed the war crime of launching indiscriminate attacks resulting in the loss of life or injury to civilians or damage to civilian objects," the fact-finding team said in a statement.
The Trump administration has yet to directly accept the blame or release findings of a Pentagon investigation into the school bombing.

The fragment is from Book 12, when Zeus curses Odysseus' men for killing and eating Helios' sacred cattle.
A researcher was perusing a collection of old Egyptian texts in a Dutch library when he stumbled upon a torn piece of parchment containing a pivotal story: a section from Homer's "Odyssey." The fragment appears to be from a pocket edition of the epic produced in Egypt around A.D. 300.
The researcher, Mark de Kreij, a Greek literature expert and professor at Radboud University in the Netherlands, found the parchment while studying early Christian manuscripts that the Utrecht University library purchased in the mid-20th century, according to a Sept. 14 statement from Utrecht University. Among a collection of Egyptian and Greek texts, de Kreij found a tiny piece of parchment with words he recognized from Homer's epic.
"There are so many boring parts in the Odyssey," de Kreij told RTV Utrecht. "This happens to be a really fun passage."

On August 14, the Pentagon announced framework agreements with The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) and RTX Corporation (NYSE:RTX) to increase component production for the SM-3 Block IIA and SM-3 Block IB interceptors. Both agreements are intended to increase the output of a group of ship-fired, surface-to-air interceptors that serve as the foundation for the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System, the sea-based shield used by the US Navy to intercept ballistic missiles.
The announcement had little impact on the shares of both companies, with The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) down around 0.4% and RTX Corporation (NYSE:RTX) down about 1% during the day.
RTX Corporation (NYSE:RTX) alone inked five separate Pentagon deals earlier this year to greatly boost output of Tomahawk cruise missiles, AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, and the Standard Missile family, with Tomahawk production expected to increase sixteenfold, from approximately 60 to 1,000 units per year.
Congress has provided financial support for the effort. The 2026 defense spending bill provided multiyear procurement authority for eight critical munitions and more than $6.3 billion for 13 critical munitions, while the Pentagon's fiscal 2027 budget request calls for roughly $95 billion in missile procurement.
Rising tensions with Iran have added urgency to rebuild US missile inventories. During the June 2025 12-day Israel-Iran war, US forces reportedly used more than 150 THAAD interceptors. This highlights the pressure that sustained conflict can place on American missile-defense stockpiles.

Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) has been on a historic run over the past five years, outperforming similarly sized peers in the pharmaceutical industry and becoming the first healthcare stock to reach a $1 trillion market cap. The company's diabetes and weight-loss portfolio has been the main engine behind its terrific performance of late, and it remains strong. During the second quarter, Eli Lilly's revenue jumped 48% year over year to $23 billion, while adjusted earnings per share rose 33% year over year to $8.38.
Sales from Eli Lilly's Mounjaro, a diabetes medicine, soared 91% year over year to $9.9 billion, while sales of Zepbound, approved for weight loss and obstructive sleep apnea, grew 46% to $4.9 billion. Can anything stop Eli Lilly's momentum? Here's one thing that might do so.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Eli Lilly generates most of its revenue from Mounjaro and Zepbound, which have the same active ingredient, tirzepatide, a medicine that mimics the action of the GLP-1 and GIP gut hormones. In the second quarter, sales from these two medicines accounted for almost 65% of the company's top line. Eli Lilly also markets Foundayo, an oral GLP-1 approved for weight loss, although it was approved in April and doesn't yet contribute much to its financial results.
Still, the point is that Eli Lilly's lineup is concentrated at the top, with just a couple of brands responsible for most of the recent momentum. Other pharmaceutical giants are well aware of Eli Lilly's GLP-1 success, and they are seeking to launch competing therapies.

Swarmer, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: SWMR) pending acquisition ofUkrainian unmanned-ground-vehicle maker Ratel Robotics could lead to $200 million in 2027 revenue and $20 million in adjusted EBITDA, according to a research note by Lucid Capital Markets.
Swarmer, which boasts Blackwater founder and industry veteran Erik Prince as its non-executive chairman, is in a definitive agreement to buy Ratel for up to $224 million and it has $86 million in secured contracts and about 37% share of Ukrainian government UGV procurement spending, the note said.
The deal comes as Ukraine's drone industry is beginning a consolidation phase, with more than 500 credible drone companies operating in the country while being home to some of the world's advanced battlefield drone technology, it said.
Swarmer could potentially consolidate Ukraine's fragmented drone industry into a full-stack drones, autonomy software and ground-vehicle platform, the note said.

Last month, Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor predicted that Bitcoin's token price would grow at a 30% compound annual rate over a 10-year period. At the time, the market-leading cryptocurrency was trading at roughly $64,500.
As of this writing, Bitcoin is already up roughly 20% since Saylor made his prediction. Could Saylor's prediction for average annualized returns over the next 30 years really hold up?

Bitcoin hit an all-time high of roughly $126,200 per token in October 2025. It then began an extended downtrend that took it to a cyclical low of below $58,600 this summer. Even though the cryptocurrency has recently seen some strong bullish momentum, it's still down roughly 39% from its peak. It's possible that current macroeconomic dynamics will help the token continue regaining ground.
With concerns about rising bond yields, oil prices, and inflation recently shaping action across the stock market and weighing heavily on the broader macroeconomic outlook, the stage could be set for Bitcoin to continue coming back into favor with investors in the near term. Crypto bulls have long touted the token's ability to function as a store of value or "digital gold," and an inflationary environment that coincides with record national debt continuing to reach new highs seemingly reflects the kind of dynamics that Bitcoin has been championed as a bulwark against.

Coca-Cola announced plans Tuesday to invest $10 billion in U.S. infrastructure between 2026 and 2030, covering new and expanded production, distribution and office facilities across the country.
That $10 billion commitment is calculated across the full Coca-Cola system — meaning it rolls in spending by bottling partners and is not limited to the parent company's own capital budget, according to Reuters. In July, the company forecast its own capital expenditure at approximately $2.2 billion for the fiscal year. Projects covered by the broader $10 billion commitment include previously announced work in Rancho Cucamonga, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Indianapolis, Indiana; Birmingham, Alabama; Coopersville, Michigan; St. Cloud, Minnesota; Orlando, Florida; and Webster, New York, the company said.
The announcement accompanied an independently commissioned study measuring the Coca-Cola system's 2025 economic contributions in the United States. The study found the system contributed $85 billion to U.S. gross domestic product — roughly $10 million in economic activity per hour — and supported nearly 1 million jobs, the company said. Rounding out the economic picture, the system directed roughly $37 billion toward American suppliers and channeled $177 million into community initiatives via The Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
"This ****** sment reinforces what we see every day: the Coca-Cola system is deeply rooted in America and continues to deliver meaningful value for the people and communities we serve," John Murphy, president and chief financial officer of The Coca-Cola Company, said in a statement.
The company said its production network spans more than 70 facilities and hundreds of distribution centers across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, with the system's economic contributions exceeding $1 billion in 25 states. The study was conducted by Steward Redqueen.

Mizuho has identified four clear tailwinds for Intel (INTC): ongoing CPU supply shortages, a stronger PC refresh cycle, accelerating demand for agentic AI, and growth in advanced packaging. Normally, such a setup would provide a reason to raise a price target. Instead, the firm cut its price target from $109 to $92, citing short-term multiple compression across Agentic AI stocks, and maintained a "Neutral" rating. The contradiction becomes more important because Intel's re-rating still depends on a foundry turnaround that has yet to prove itself.
Mizuho remains cautious on INTC stock despite outlining four separate tailwinds that could support the company's growth. The firm lowered its price target from $109 to $92 on Sept. 3, pointing to short-term multiple compression across agentic AI companies while keeping its "Neutral" rating unchanged. Mizuho **** yst Vijay Rakesh highlighted four developments that could support Intel's outlook. According to the **** yst, accelerating agentic AI demand could improve CPU-to-GPU ratios and drive additional server refreshers. Ongoing CPU supply constraints could also leave the company unable to fully meet demand through 2027. In addition, advanced packaging revenue is expected to reach $3.5 billion by 2029, with external foundry revenue potentially reaching a similar level through the 14A node. Finally, a stronger PC cycle could extend the upgrade cycle as corporate refreshes combine with ongoing memory tightness.
