Federal officials acknowledge that President Donald Trump’s planned triumphal arch will unavoidably harm historic sites if built as planned, but they say the project must move forward, according to a National Park Service document and emails obtained by The Washington Post.
Trump’s 250-foot-tall proposed arch would be built in Memorial Circle, a traffic roundabout tucked inside Washington’s boundaries near Arlington National Cemetery. Historic preservationists, veterans groups and others have called on the administration to shrink the monument’s planned size or build it elsewhere, warning that the towering structure would overshadow the cemetery, interrupt the solemn corridor that was intended between the cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial, and create other disruptions.

The measure would allow citizens to sue federal employees who pressure private companies into suppressing speech protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees free expression. Both Republicans and Democrats on the committee said the bill was needed to curb government overreach.

Financial infrastructure provider Fin.com has "emerged from stealth" with $20m in seed funding.
In a statement, the New York-based firm said the round was led by venture firm Expa and Uber co-founder Garrett Camp.
Coinbase Ventures, Tenet Fund, Second Sight Ventures, and various sovereign and family offices across the Gulf and Africa, among others, also participated.

The Denver Broncos were in a desperate situation entering the 2026 AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. With starting quarterback Bo Nix injured and missing the game, the team reportedly reached out to Hall of Famer Drew Brees to see if he was interested in what could have been one of the most surreal moments in the sport's history.
The Broncos had homefield advantage, but were dealt a cruel blow with Nix breaking his ankle late in their Divisional Round overtime win against the Buffalo Bills. The Seattle Seahawks are 1-0, so it's time to start scouting their next opponent.
The Arizona Cardinals shocked the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 with a 26-14 win in which Mike LaFleur became the franchise's first non-interim head coach to win their first game in charge. The matchup was projected as one of the opening week's most lopsided in favor of Jim Harbaugh and Los Angeles, who were coming off an 11-6 record in 2025. Los Angeles made the playoffs and lost to the eventual AFC champion New England Patriots in the Wild Card round, albeit without either of their starting offensive tackles—Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt—who were both expected to boost the offense upon their return this season. Arizona's defense had other ideas, and became one of the biggest surprises of any unit across Week 1's Sunday slate, while their offense simply looked more talented and outplayed LA with complementary football. That's what the Seahawks will be looking for in Week 2.
The Cardinals defense played with an energy that stifled Justin Herbert and new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who only held the ball for 51 plays and 22:29. Arizona ran 21 more plays and had the ball for 15:02 more of the game (more than an entire quarter?!) When watching this game, the attitude from Arizona's defense seemed to disregard the stature of its opponent. LaFleur retained defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, who Phoenix-based sports radio host John Gambadoro credits for helping set the temperature.
It's easy to see Rallis' results. The intensity of the defense that showed up on tape is just as evident on paper. His Cardinals defense ranks second to last in blitz rate so far this season, yet they held McDaniel and Herbert to a measly 2-for-8 on third downs and 0-for-3 on fourth downs. Their front seven was far more formidable than the Chargers on the day, producing 17 pressures on 55 snaps while LA could only muster 12 on 75 opportunities. On the flipside, the Cardinals' offensive line has been projected as their downfall this season. The Seahawks have a clear opportunity to establish their presence as a physically dominant team if they kill the Cardinals momentum. This will be the game for elite run blockers like AJ Barner and run stoppers like Uchenna Nwosu to put the new age film community on watch.
Offensive talent is far from the problem in Arizona. Trey McBride is the best tight end in football. They've got two running backs in Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier who can both be a problem for any team. Marvin Harrison Jr. was a matchup nightmare against the Seahawks last season. KYIV, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Ukraine is ready to halt strikes on Russia if its partners ensure that Moscow will refrain from hitting Ukrainian energy facilities, infrastructure and food supply routes, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday.
Zelenskiy's comments, posted on Telegram, appeared to amount to a denial that Ukraine had formally endorsed U.S. President Donald Trump's statement that Ukraine and Russia had agreed not to hit each other's energy targets.
Zelenskiy said Ukraine was not convinced that Russia was willing to abide by any agreement.
"Ukraine is not certain that Russia is willing to stick to any agreement," he wrote.
"The war must be brought to an end. And a de-escalatory step regarding critical infrastructure could be the first step toward peace. We expect specifics from our partners."

Jürgen Klopp are seriously considering naming a significantly expanded squad for Germany's four upcoming Nations League games.
Sky Germany understands that the idea behind said plan is to use the two weeks together to see as many players as possible.

The way I'd frame the Philadelphia Eagles' Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders? I'd say it's a performance to build on.
The offense as a collective clearly needs to be better. They only managed 10 first downs on Sunday … the fewest of any team in the league so far.
Maybe Sean Mannion's group can get it going against the Tennessee ****** ans? The Eagles are entering Week 2 as seven-point road favorites, according to FanDuel.
This after the ****** ans, now coached by Robert Saleh, lost to the New York Jets by a final score of 23 to 10. Geno Smith completed 19 of 24 attempts for 215 yards and a 104 passer rating. The Jets' top two running backs combined for 142 rushing yards and one touchdown on 32 carries (4.4 average).
Until we actually see the Eagles prove they can block better, it might be hard to fully believe it. The crux of Amodei's argument is that AI using recursive self-improvement "could outrun our ability to understand and control these systems, and so must be pursued very carefully, if at all."
In order to prevent future harms, Amodei said frontier AI companies should commit to embedding third-party evaluators in their organizations that can **** s their AI models and confirm the labs' "adherence to safety practices and commitments, report incidents, and help **** s the alignment of not just completed AI models but training pipelines and processes."

Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson had eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers, according to ESPN.com.
Why it Matters: It was the first time since Dec. 22, 2024, that Jefferson had two touchdown receptions in a game. In fact, he had just two TDs all of last season. Last season's struggles caused him to slip in fantasy drafts to the midway portion of the first round, and he could absolutely outplay that. His two scores came with Carson Wentz under center, so we'll have a little bit of cautious optimism to see how he and Kyler Murray (concussion) connect when he's fit to return. Costco has raised the price of its Kirkland Signature full-synthetic motor oil and begun limiting how much any one member can purchase, as a global lubricant shortage tied to the ongoing Middle East conflict pushes crude oil toward $100 a barrel.
That 10-quart case — two 5-quart bottles, enough for a typical V6 or V8 oil change — has jumped to $57.99, compared with the roughly $30 price members had grown accustomed to paying, according to The Drive. Stores are capping purchases at two units per customer per week. The retailer has also imposed a five-per-member limit on Mobil 1, with six quarts of that brand running $44.
The rationing reflects pressure from multiple directions. The connection to fuel prices runs through the refinery: base oil shares its crude-oil origins with gasoline and diesel, so when margins on finished fuel are strong, refiners have a financial reason to favor fuel production over lubricant stock, according to The Auto Wire.
