Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) is entering its fiscal 2027 with strong momentum, particularly in next-generation security. But investors now demand more from the cybersecurity company after its stock rallied sharply.
On September 7, PhillipCapital downgraded Palo Alto stock to Neutral from Accumulate but raised the price target to $346 from $320.
PhillipCapital's move captures the central investment debate. It's that Palo Alto's opportunities are compelling, but the stock's roughly 160% rise from its February low to its August peak has raised the bar for further gains.
Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW)'s revenue rose 34% YoY to $3.4 billion in fiscal 2026 fourth quarter. More importantly, Next-Generation Security ARR (NGS ARR) surged 63% to $9.10 billion. The company added nearly $1 billion of net new NGS ARR in the quarter. The company targets $20 billion in NGS ARR by fiscal 2030, as it expects platformization and AI infrastructure investment to continue driving growth.
More than 65% of Palo Alto's NGS ARR comes from platformized customers. Meanwhile, AI is expanding the addressable market. As enterprises deploy agents, Palo Alto offerings such as Prisma AIRS and Cortex, alongside CyberArk's identity-security platform, can address emerging needs.

Corning (GLW) stock rose Tuesday after the provider of optical communications gear for telecom networks and artificial intelligence data centers announced a multibillion-dollar agreement with longtime customer Verizon Communications (VZ). Corning stock has advanced 70% in 2026, but shares have retreated from a 52-week high set on June 30.
Under the deal, Verizon will buy optical fiber and connectivity products from 2027 to 2032 for its landline broadband network. Verizon also is building a new long-distance backbone network for cloud computing companies.
On the stock market today, Corning stock rose more than 7% to 165.70 in morning trading. Corning stock hit a high of 271.78 on June 30. Meanwhile, Verizon stock climbed nearly 1% to 50.51.
Corning was long known for its flat-panel display business and Gorilla Glass used in smartphones. But the company has pivoted to become a provider of fiber, cables, connectors and networking components needed to link AI computer servers inside and between AI data centers.
Nvidia (NVDA) recently agreed to invest up to $3.2 billion in Corning under a warrant deal. Corning plans to expand production capacity for AI data centers.

On August 5, OraSure Technologies (NASDAQ:OSUR) reported second-quarter 2026 results that included its first GAAP net income in years, a headline number of $6.2 million versus a $19.7 million loss a year earlier. Revenue of $30.6 million beat the company's own guidance range and climbed 9.7% from the prior quarter. But look past the top line and the story splits in two, one part driven by real operating progress, the other by an accounting adjustment tied to a regulatory setback.
Some of this quarter's improvement came from actual operations. Gross margin expanded to 43.5% on a GAAP basis, up from 42.1% a year earlier, and non-GAAP gross margin rose to 44.2% from 43.2%. Diagnostics revenue grew 1% year over year to $19.4 million, helped by higher syphilis test sales and the addition of BioMedomics' Sickle SCAN product line. OraSure also picked up two regulatory wins during the quarter. In June 2026, the FDA cleared its Colli-Pee Dx urine collection kit for use with Roche's **** ually transmitted infection tests, letting patients collect samples at home instead of in a clinic.
The following month, the FDA granted Emergency Use Authorization for the second-generation OraQuick Ebola 2.0 Rapid Antigen Test, which can detect all four Ebola virus strains known to cause disease in humans. Cash used in operating activities improved to $23.8 million over the first six months of 2026, down from $30 million a year earlier, a sign the cash burn is easing. The company also kept buying back stock, repurchasing $22 million of shares, or 7.7 million shares, against its $40 million authorization, retiring more than 10% of shares outstanding.
The GAAP profit that headlines this quarter didn't come from the business getting more profitable. It came almost entirely from a $22.6 million reduction in a contingent consideration liability, an accounting entry triggered when OraSure updated its regulatory submission plan for the CT/NG test on its Sherlock platform. Strip that adjustment out and the underlying trend looks different. Non-GAAP operating loss widened to $14.7 million from $13.2 million a year earlier, and non-GAAP net loss came in at $13.8 million, roughly in line with last year's $14.2 million loss. The regulatory event behind that accounting gain is itself a setback.
In July, OraSure withdrew its InteliQuick CT/NG molecular self-test submission after receiving FDA feedback, meaning the product's path to market is now delayed while the company prepares a future resubmission. Total revenue for the quarter was still down 2% year over year, and core revenue, which excludes COVID-19 and Risk **** sment Testing, was flat. Six-month revenue fell 4% to $58.6 million. Sample Management Solutions revenue stayed flat year over year at $9.9 million, showing no growth driver of its own. Cash and equivalents fell to $161 million at quarter-end from $199.3 million at the end of 2025, pulled down by continued buybacks and cash used in operations.

AMD gained 4.7% and Intel rose 4.5% on September 4, while Nvidia added only 0.8%. The one-session gap is consistent with investors widening the AI trade beyond Nvidia, but it cannot identify buyer motive or prove a lasting rotation. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) each offer a route to AI spending that does not require Nvidia to lose outright.
AMD's second-quarter revenue reached a record $11.5 billion, up 50% year over year, and Data Center represented 58% of the company. Its portfolio includes MI450 accelerators, sixth-generation EPYC processors, Helios rack-scale systems, and Pensando networking. Customers seeking a credible second source and more negotiating leverage support the bull case. The countercase is software maturity, execution across a broad roadmap, and the capital required to challenge Nvidia's ecosystem.
Insider Monkey's database counted 164 hedge funds holding Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) in Q2 2026, up from 134 in Q1 2026. Marshall Wace reported 3,898,210 shares, about 3% more than in Q1. The quarter-end filings predate the September 4 rally and cannot show whether funds reacted to it.
Intel's second-quarter Data Center and AI revenue was $6.3 billion, up 59% year over year. A resilient CPU franchise, custom silicon, advanced packaging, and a domestic foundry network form the bull case. The cost and uncertain returns of rebuilding manufacturing leadership form the bear case. Intel generated $1.8 billion of GAAP operating income, while its $2.16 GAAP loss per share was driven largely by a $12.5 billion noncash mark-to-market loss on escrowed shares. Negative $8.4 billion adjusted free cash flow still makes capital efficiency a real concern.
The Q2 2026 database counted 138 hedge funds holding Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), up from 112 in Q1 2026. AQR Capital Management reported 10,742,567 shares after cutting its position by about 6% from Q1. That disclosure also predates the September rally, so it is historical positioning rather than a reaction.

As consumers spend more on goods and services through subscriptions, retail and entertainment categories are attracting a lot of their payments. Those two categories comprised roughly 43% of consumers' overall subscription spending in the past 12 months ending in July, a greater share than 41% in 2025 and 2024, according to a new Bank of America report. Food, fitness and fashion was the next highest category (26%) among the non-utility spending.
The growth in subscription spending by U.S. consumers at 7.7% outpaced the expansion of total card spending for the second consecutive year, also for the 12-month period through July, according to the report issued Wednesday, which is based on the bank's transaction data.
While subscription spending among Gen Xers and Baby Boomers grew modestly during that 12-month period at 3% and 5%, respectively, Gen Z subscription spending surged by about 14%, surpassing that of younger Millennials (about 10%) and older Millennials (nearly 8%), per the report.
While subscription spending on reading and information was the smallest category of spending (7%), per the bank's report, those payments grew the most year-over-year, especially among the Gen Z group.

On September 1, Rezolve AI (NASDAQ:RZLV) reported first-half revenue of $130.8 million, up from just $6.3 million a year earlier, a jump of roughly 1,970%. The AI commerce and payments company also said its enterprise customer base grew to 1,640 accounts. Numbers like that demand attention, but the same report showed losses widening even faster than sales. Here's what's really going on underneath the headline growth rate.
Rezolve's enterprise base grew from 950 customers at the end of the prior fiscal year to 1,640 by June 30, and management is leaning on partnerships with Microsoft, Google, Tata Consultancy Services, and Tech Mahindra to keep that pipeline filling without building out its own global sales force. That distribution strategy got a notable vote of confidence after the quarter closed: Google selected Rezolve's proprietary distributed database technology following a technical evaluation of 24 competing companies, and the system is now indexing roughly 100 terabytes of data across 10 blockchain networks inside Google Cloud's infrastructure.
The platform also proved it can handle real traffic. During the FIFA 2026 World Cup measurement window from June 1 through July 31, Rezolve's technology logged about 103 million app opens from 9.86 million unique devices across 16 stadiums, along with 5.84 million geofence events. On the loyalty and payments side, the recently completed acquisition of Reward Loyalty expanded Rezolve's footprint to more than 15 markets, and a partnership with Zilch now touches almost 6 million customers, driving over $3.3 billion a year to partner merchants. Management reaffirmed guidance for approximately $360 million in full-year 2026 revenue, implying second-half sales near $229 million, and reiterated a target of at least $500 million in annual recurring revenue by year-end.
Growth this fast has come at a steep price. Rezolve's operating loss widened to $128.1 million in the first half of 2026, compared with $32.4 million a year earlier, and net loss grew to $139.5 million from $57.9 million. Some of that reflects noncash items, including $41.5 million in share-based compensation and $20.4 million in depreciation and amortization, but cash is also going out the door faster. Net cash used in operating activities jumped to $96.1 million from $19.8 million in the prior-year period, and investing activities consumed another $148.3 million, largely tied to acquisitions and platform development.

Brennan ******* et Management recently released its Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Investors were optimistic about a potential truce with Iran, highlighted by a mid-June memorandum for negotiations on regional security and sanctions, causing oil prices to drop and the market to rally. Despite geopolitical uncertainties, investors remain focused on a surge in AI infrastructure spending, which is expected to heavily influence the global economy, although questions about the returns from this investment loom. Overall, the S&P 500 remains at high valuations, seemingly unfazed by these challenges, while there are few pockets of value left, mostly outside the U.S. market. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Brennan ******* et Management highlighted Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK). Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) is a communication services company that provides a range of data, wireless, video, voice, and managed services. GCI Liberty, Inc. rebranded to Liberty Capital Corporation in May 2026. On August 31, 2026, Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) closed at $26.03 per share. Over the past month, Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) returned 8.78%, but its shares are down 28.94% over the past year. Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) has a market capitalization of $1.04 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $19.30 to $41.18.
Brennan ******* et Management stated the following regarding Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK): "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!": In our Q4 2024 letter, we described our unfavorable investment history with Liberty Latin America (LILAK) and explained our reasons for substantially exiting the position and reinvesting the proceeds in TIGO. In the letter, we blamed ourselves for giving LILAK's management team too much slack even though operating performance continued to contradict their rosy projections. Selling shares in a longer-term holding that has not worked is no fun, but it is part of the investment process.
In our Q3 2025 letter, we detailed our investment in GCI Liberty (later renamed Liberty Capital) and described how we felt that the company traded substantially below the value of the Alaska Cable business, which implied that investors were seemingly ascribing negative value to the prospects of deals from John Malone and company. We noted how investors would have flocked to this type of investment 10 years ago, but the underperformance of US cable and several other Liberty names had caused a severe inversion to anything cable related..." For most people, carrying $1.2 billion in debt would be a terrifying prospect. But for Rich Dad, Poor Dad author Robert Kiyosaki, it's no cause for concern. And an August 2026 Vanity Fair profile offers some important context behind that eye-popping figure.
Kiyosaki doesn't personally owe $1.2 billion, according to his former wife and longtime business partner Kim Kiyosaki. Rather, the debt is held by a group of real estate investors, including Kiyosaki and his partners, tied to roughly 1,500 apartment units. His personal share is reportedly much smaller (1).

The broader retail industry is moving beyond physical stores, with channels including e-Commerce, digital advertising, memberships, and convenience-led fulfillment tagged as critical growth drivers. Furthermore, scale and pricing are important, and consumers continue to emphasize value. Such trends are supporting Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT).
The company has been benefiting from businesses that are beyond its traditional physical-store retail operations. Its Q2 revenue saw an increase of 5.9% to reach $187.9 billion, with global e-Commerce sales increasing by 23% and advertising revenue jumping by 38%. Membership revenue also rose 17%. This gives the company several higher-growth businesses alongside its core stores.
Investors gave more weight to its profitability. The company's adjusted operating income went up by 17.4% in constant currency, and its gross margin expanded 96 bps. Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT) reported $19.7 billion in operating cash flow. However, its FCF fell to $5.5 billion.
On the positive side, the company increased its FY 2027 outlook to 4%-5% sales growth and 7%-8.5% adjusted operating income growth. This means that earnings might continue to grow faster than its revenue.
Bernstein ***** yst Zhihan Ma kept a "Buy" rating on Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT)'s stock and a price objective of $142. As per the ***** yst, the quarter ended at the high end of guidance. The ***** yst opines that softer US comparable sales were mainly aided by pharmacy-related factors rather than deterioration in the company's core business. Also, the ***** yst anticipates the combined Q2-Q3 period to result in approximately mid-single-digit sales growth and around 10% EBIT growth.

X Financial (NYSE:XYF) reported a dramatically smaller lending platform on August 24. Second-quarter net revenue fell 56.3% year over year and 15.5% sequentially to RMB 993.6 million. The active-borrower count declined 74.8% from a year earlier to approximately 720,258, while the total loan amount facilitated and originated dropped 70.2% to RMB11.63 billion. Shares closed at $5.35 on August 24 following the results.
The question is whether the contraction represents a successful reset toward better borrowers or continuing erosion that improved credit metrics cannot offset. The latest quarter suggests credit performance is stabilizing faster than the business itself.
The strongest argument for X Financial (NYSE:XYF) is that tighter underwriting appears to be improving recent loan performance. The company-reported 31- to 60-day delinquency rate declined to 1.73% from 2.61% at the end of the first quarter. Its 91- to 180-day rate eased to 9.09% from 9.95%. Management attributed the first sequential improvement in several quarters to stricter underwriting for newer loan vintages and additional collection resources.
The average loan amount per transaction increased 21.3% year over year to RMB12,712. Management linked the increase to a transaction mix weighted toward higher-quality borrowers and said newer vintages were performing better. That strategy sacrifices scale but could produce a healthier remaining portfolio if the improvement continues.
Cost reductions also supported sequential profitability. Total operating costs and expenses fell 22.9% from the first quarter, while operating income increased 38.6% to RMB194.9 million. Operating margin improved to 19.6% from 12.0%, although it remained below 29.7% a year earlier.

On August 19, 2026, Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRNA) and Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) said their personalized melanoma vaccine, intismeran, combined with Merck's Keytruda, met its goals in a Phase 3 trial of 1,137 patients. It reduced the risk of cancer recurrence and spread compared with Keytruda alone, Reuters reported.
It is the first positive late-stage trial result for an mRNA cancer vaccine. Merck's Jane Healy called the result a "clinically meaningful improvement," and said it was well tolerated, CNBC reported.
Both companies' shares rose on the news. Full data will be presented at an upcoming medical meeting alongside regulatory filing discussions. The companies are already running additional trials of the same vaccine-Keytruda combination in lung, bladder, kidney, pancreatic, and stomach cancers.
For Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRNA), this is proof that its mRNA platform works beyond vaccines for infectious disease. A positive Phase 3 readout validates years of personalized cancer vaccine development. It gives Moderna a genuine second growth pillar alongside its COVID business, one built on technology the company already knows how to manufacture and scale.
For Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK), the result extends Keytruda's competitive life at a critical moment. Pairing Keytruda with a personalized vaccine gives Merck a differentiated, harder-to-copy combination therapy just as Keytruda itself approaches patent expiration later this decade. Hence, it protects franchise revenue through a next-generation product rather than the drug alone.

Citizens is heading into Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM)'s fiscal second-quarter 2027 print with a bullish view. The firm reiterated a Market Outperform rating on the stock with a $315.00 price target, citing positive industry checks. As per the firm, 50% of checks came positive in Q2 compared to 22% in the first quarter of fiscal 2027.
However, the stock is down more than 19% year-to-date, entering the print as one of the most beaten-down stocks in tech. Against this backdrop, improving channel checks serve as a meaningful positive against a market that has been weighed down over concerns around AI agent economics and cash flow.
Salesforce came under the brunt of a massive sector-wide selloff amongst software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies, dubbed the "SaaSpocalypse." Investors believed that AI would take business away from SaaS enterprises such as Salesforce. However, the stock's recent results have been challenging the most bearish version of this thesis.
For the fiscal first quarter, the company reported a record revenue of $11.1 billion, up 13% year over year. This strong start led it to raise its full-year revenue forecast to a range of $45.9 billion to $46.2 billion. Its AI metrics also moved well, with annualized revenue from Agentforce reaching $1.2 billion, up 205% year over year. Previously, Agentforce had been struggling and making less than a billion in ARR.
Meanwhile, bookings for Agentforce One edition and Agentforce for Apps grew almost 60% year-over-year. Its CRPO (Current Remaining Performance Obligation), a key forward demand indicator, was $33.6 billion, up approximately 14% nominal and 13% in constant currency.

The U.S. national debt has hit $40 trillion, and the Trump administration is facing questions about its budget plans as a result. The good news is, there has one: The American economy will apparently grow its way out of any fiscal crisis.
"It's been a problem for 35 years," Trump told reporters Friday. "And what we have now … is we have tremendous growth. And the way you take care of debt is with growth, and we have tremendous growth. We've never had growth like we have right now."
"There's nothing magic about the $40 trillion number," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on CNBC last week, "And we can grow our way out of that."
Economists would be inclined to agree with Bessent: The value of the debt, while an extraordinary milestone, doesn't hold much relative weight. What economists (and more importantly, the bond market) is watching is the debt-to-GDP ratio: This demonstrates the level of borrowing by a country against its economic capacity to repay and service it.
Currently, the U.S. ratio stands at 122%. To bring it back into a lower balance, an economy could cut its borrowing or—as Bessent suggests—increase its growth.
When the alternative is cutting borrowing and, as a result, government spending, the growth plan is a more optimistic and politically palatable route.
It's also the latest in a series of solutions proposed by the White House: Originally, President Trump had suggested that tariffs would pay down the national debt (the plan was quickly nixed by a Supreme Court ruling ordering the administration to repay approximately $100 billion in revenues that the justices deemed illegal).

President Trump made over 1,000 equity trades in June, according to a newly released ethics disclosure, shrugging off political pressure over stock trading profits as the midterm elections approach.
A separate ****** ysis from Democratic lawmakers additionally found that Trump's personal investments in oil and gas stocks have been paying off in 2026, with ****** ets that have likely yielded millions in profits.
The ethics disclosure also underscored that Trump has shown little interest in reining in trading done under his name, with an average of over 30 trades a day in June, totaling between $78 million and $263 million in transactions.
It was the latest in a series of eyebrow-raising transactions that stretch back to Trump's inauguration but have accelerated in 2026, with a velocity of trading that has drawn intense criticism, even as the president says neither he nor his family makes the investment decisions themselves.
The report covers the month when ****** eX (SPCX) went public and shows the president made an investment on June 23 of between $15,000 and $50,000 in Elon Musk's company as he joined others in Washington getting in on the IPO.

When friends ask me if they should sell their shares in Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), I always get snarky and start by asking a different question: Do you still believe Tesla is one of the companies shaping the next decade of transportation, energy, and automation, or do you see it now as just another carmaker that had a good run?
Sure, I often ask if they think the ticker will run more, but my answer, looking out to 2027, is that the stock still has room to run, and that selling it just because the last couple of quarters were messy would miss what is actually happening inside the business.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The headlines lately have not been kind, but this is investing; you must wait to time out your investments. Tesla's second-quarter results showed revenue of around $27 billion, with automotive sales up about 23% year over year, yet the operating margin compressed to near 1%, and profit missed expectations after a stretch of price cuts and heavy spending.
Free cash flow even flipped negative as capital expenditures (capex) more than doubled sequentially, with guidance calling for more than $25 billion of capex for the year. On the surface, that looks like a company working harder for less earnings, which is why the stock has felt stuck.

Investors today must choose between the established social influence of Reddit (NYSE:RDDT) and the experimental computing potential of Rigetti Computing (NASDAQ:RGTI). Which of these tech-driven businesses represents the better addition to your portfolio?
Reddit uses its massive library of human conversation to drive advertising and licensing revenue. Rigetti develops advanced hardware designed to solve problems too complex for standard computers. This comparison explores whether you should favor a profitable community platform or a speculative leap into the next generation of digital infrastructure.
Reddit operates a vast platform of over 45,000 active communities where users share information and opinions. The company primarily makes money through digital advertising, but it also generates revenue by licensing its data to companies like Google parent Alphabet for training artificial intelligence. Customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business, as its top ten largest advertisers accounted for approximately 21% of revenue in 2025.
Reddit experienced a significant financial transformation recently. In its 2025 fiscal year (FY), revenue reached $2.2 billion, representing growth of 69.4% compared to the previous year. The company also turned profitable, reporting net income of $529.7 million, which equals a net margin of 24.1%.

The copper tariff premium was the visible signal that faded; the quiet rebuild of its US mines was the half of the move an investor could actually see coming.
Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) stock returned about 74% over the year to August 20, 2026, against about 20% for the S&P 500. It managed that with the Grasberg Block Cave in Indonesia still recovering toward full capacity. The part of that move Freeport controlled was visible seven months before the run began, and it was not the tariff signal everyone was watching.
The US Rebuild Was Named Seven Months Early
By late January 2025 management had already named the target: 2024 was to be the floor year for its US business, with US production guided up 8% in 2025. By April 2025 better retention had cut Freeport's reliance on costlier contractors: contractor hours at Morenci, its largest US mine, were down about 20% over the prior few quarters, and the autonomous haul truck conversion at its Bagdad mine was under way. In fiscal Q2 2026 Morenci's mining rate ran 30% higher than its five-year average, and the US mining operations delivered 2.4x more operating income in the first half of 2026 than in the first half of 2025, making them the highest earnings contributor across the portfolio of mines Freeport runs, on a US business management highlighted as exposed to favorable copper markets. Converting higher mining rates into operating income is the kind of profitability the Trefis High Quality Portfolio favors in its holdings.

The AI trade has entered a new phase. After months of relentless optimism, leverage and crowded positioning collided with a sharp July sell-off in semiconductor stocks, exposing how quickly a winning trade can become a forced liquidation.
