Dow Jones futures fell early Monday, along with S&P 500 futures and especially Nasdaq futures. Crude oil prices jumped while AI stocks are under pressure after artificial intelligence leaders called for slowing AI model development. Treasury yields and the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting also are key this week.
The stock market fell last week, but rebounded Friday, with Apple (AAPL), Moderna (MRNA) and NetApp (NTAP) flashing buy signals. The S&P 500 index declined 0.8% and the Nasdaq fell 0.7%, both above their 50-day moving averages. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.6% in last week's stock market trading. The small-cap Russell 2000 shed 2.4%. Both are below their 50-day lines.
A number of stocks flashed buy signals or are setting up, but the choppy index action and rapid sector rotation has been a difficult environment.
U.S. crude oil futures spiked 9.4% to $100.05 a barrel last week, even with Friday's 2.4% decline. Oil prices shot up 20% in the last two weeks amid the widening U.S.-Iran conflict, threatening further oil supply routes.
The 10-year Treasury yield surged 19 basis points to 4.97%, the highest since nearly hitting 5% in October 2023. Markets are betting on a Fed rate hike, even as President Donald Trump reiterated his call for rate cuts.

What happened: The 10-year Treasury yield (^TNX) climbed to 4.97% on Monday, just 3 basis points away from the 5% threshold. Meanwhile, the 30-year Treasury (^TYX) yield hovered at 5.35%.
What's behind the move: Bond yields stayed elevated as Brent crude climbed to $107 a barrel, stoking inflation fears and leading investors to price in rate hikes ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy meeting this week.
Goldman Sachs revised its forecast for this week from no change to a rate hike following Friday's August inflation print.
"The report had little impact on our inflation view but pushed market pricing of a hike to nearly 90%, high enough that the FOMC will likely want to avoid the market reaction that would likely follow from remaining on hold," Goldman Sachs' chief economist David Mericle wrote on Sunday night.
Some strategists believe long-dated bond yields may ease if the Fed hikes rates at its Sept. 15-16 meeting.

As the Miami Hurricanes continue the journey of the 2026 regular season, our friends at FanDuel Sportsbook have released odds for the week 3 road game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
With no further ado, your FanDuel Sportsbook line of the week:
Per FanDuelSports, your Miami Hurricanes open as 21.5pt road favorites over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in week 3's Friday night ACC game.
Over/Under 53.5
For Miami, they're a national championship contender, if not favorite at this point of the year. With one of the most talented rosters in the country the Canes look to use and explosive offense led by star QB Darian Mensah and all-world WR Malachi Toney, Miami is going to be lighting up scoreboards all over the country all year long.
After dropping 77 points and a program-record 856 yards of offense last week against an overmatched FAMU Rattlers team, Miami will look to deploy their explosive offense again in Winston Salem this Friday night. While the numbers may be lower than last week, they should still be plenty robust. Miami has one of the most explosive offenses in the country, led by the duo of Mensah and Toney, and a run game that is very talented as well and rounding into form.

Lil Durk remains in jail despite his Friday acquittal.
On 11 September, a Los Angeles federal jury found the rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, not guilty of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of a man in Los Angeles four years ago.
Prosecutors have confirmed he will remain in custody until his racketeering case, tied to the 2022 shooting death of Stephon Mack, is also resolved. That second trial on racketeering murder and firearms charges is scheduled for 5 October.
Longtime nemesis and fellow rapper 6ix9ine found a way to throw shade at Durk despite Chicago rapper's win in court.
6ix9ine had planned to throw a 'Lil Durk Going Away Party' in the event of a guilty verdict, and still held a celebration of sorts.
Posting a video on Instagram of him letting off fireworks and popping champagne, he reacted to the decision while mocking Durk about his deceased brother, Dontay 'DThang' Banks, and rapper King Von, who was signed to Durk's label, Only the Family.

It's the eve of the Washington Commanders' season opener, so they have made a roster move.
It's not unusual for the Commanders, or the other 31 NFL teams, to make a roster move or two the day before a game. As the season progresses, you will notice these are often injury-related, where the Commanders will elevate a player from the practice squad to the active roster to fill in for an injured player who is going to be inactive on game day.
In this case, the Commanders just released offensive tackle D.J. Humphries on Friday. Thus, Washington announced Saturday it is elevating C/G Julian Good-Jones (JGJ) from the practice squad for Sunday's 2026 opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

With starting center Nick Allegretti ailing most of training camp, JGJ became a focal point of much radio and podcast **** ysis, and the references to JGJ were mostly not complimentary and sometimes unnecessarily unkind.

Sept 11 (Reuters) - Wall Street ended higher on Friday as oil prices retreated and strong consumer price data reinforced expectations the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates next week to fight inflation.
AI server maker Dell soared 12% to a record high. Hewlett Packard Enterprise jumped 12% and HP gained 8.4% after Oracle's quarterly results topped estimates. Oracle dipped 1.8%.
U.S. consumer prices accelerated last month as the cost of gasoline rebounded after two straight monthly declines, adding pressure on the Fed to tighten monetary policy to fight inflation.
Interest rate futures now reflect a nearly 90% probability that the central bank will raise rates at its policy meeting on Wednesday, according to the CME FedWatch tool. That is up from a 72% likelihood on Thursday.

The Cleveland Browns are set to kick off their 2026 regular season Sunday afternoon when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road. The team announced on Friday that they would be starting two rookies on their offensive line, ruling out Teven Jenkins and announcing that third-round pick Austin Barber would get the start at right guard.
Cleveland is also calling up two players from its practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's game, elevating linebacker Nathaniel Watson and cornerback D'Angelo Ross. ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi reports that both elevations are special teams-related, which makes sense, as both have clear skill sets to contribute in that area of the game.
It will be interesting to see who ends up on the inactive list after these elevations; we know at least one of them is already Tevin Jenkins. Todd Monken talked about having all three quarterbacks active to use a package for rookie Taylen Green, which will be something to watch as kickoff gets closer.

LONDON, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Intelligence services must not dwell too much on past threats but accept that a new strategic shock along the lines of the 9/11 attacks could already be in preparation where they are not looking, the head of Britain's MI5 spy agency said.
In an opinion piece published on Friday to mark 25 years since al Qaeda militants crashed hijacked passenger jets into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon, MI5's Director General Ken McCallum said security agencies had to be ready to adapt to current and future challenges.
"We know that the next strategic shock will, by definition, not resemble the last one. That is perhaps the most important lesson of all," McCallum wrote in the commentary for the Independent newspaper.
"We must of course always learn from the last attack – but must beware of preparing brilliantly to fight yesterday's enemy, using yesterday's methods, against yesterday's target ... The uncomfortable truth is that the next strategic shock may already be taking shape somewhere we are not yet looking."
Al Qaeda, though diminished, remains a threat, as does the aspiration of that group and other militants for mass casualty attacks, McCallum said.

Matchday 27 continued this Saturday (12) with six more games.
After the "crazy" 3-3 draw between Coritiba and Athletico-PR in the opening match of the round last Friday (11), the "rain of goals" continued in the Brasileirão.
The day began with Atlético-MG's solid 3-1 win over Fluminense in Belo Horizonte.
Both the Minas Gerais side and the Rio de Janeiro team fielded reserve/mixed lineups because of their continental deciders next week.
Galo need to overturn a 2-0 deficit at home against Santos in the Conmebol Sudamericana quarter-finals, while the Laranjeiras Tricolor travel to Argentina to face Platense holding a 2-0 advantage in the Libertadores quarter-finals.

After spending the morning at the Pentagon to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11th tragedy, President Donald Trump apparently had another attack on his mind in the afternoon — posting the 5-year-old video of him telling January 6, 2021, rioters to go home after they violently stormed the Capitol building.
The video, which was posted in full on Trump's Truth Social account Friday without any further context, shows the president repeating his false claim that he won the 2020 election but telling rioters to go home: "We have to have peace. So go home, we love you, you're very special."
A White House spokesperson said Trump reposted the video Friday as "a reminder to everyone that what the Democrats did to weaponize the justice system against President Trump has been debunked thoroughly."
It's unclear what cases they were referencing — the criminal case against Trump concerning the Capitol attack was dismissed due to his win in the 2024 election.
Trump has been repeatedly emphasizing voter fraud in recent months, increasingly and without evidence accusing Democrats of cheating in elections. At the GOP midterm convention this week, he implored the audience to "cheat like ****** " to help Republicans keep control of Congress.

US stocks rose on Friday as investors digested the Consumer Price Index data, which showed inflation remained sticky and cemented bets that the Federal Reserve will hike interest rates next week.
The Dow Industrial Average (^DJI) and tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) rose 0.9% while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) rose 0.8%. The major indexes posted weekly declines, however, after a four-day losing streak.
Investors turned their attention to the Consumer Price Index, the last piece of inflation data before Federal Reserve policymakers convene next week. Overall prices rose 0.4% on a monthly basis and 3.4% on an annual basis, which were in line with economists' expectations and slightly hotter than July's reading.
But after stripping out volatile food and energy prices, the Fed's preferred reading, CPI rose 0.3%, compared to estimates for 0.2%.
Friday's CPI report prompted traders to ramp up their bets that the Fed will raise interest rates this month. Markets are now pricing in a roughly 87% chance the Fed raises interest rates by 25 basis points at the FOMC meeting next week, according to the CME's Fedwatch tool. That's up from 72% a day ago and 50% a week ago.

After an epic 11-inning win Friday night against the Phillies, the Braves were hoping to finish them off in the division race. They got a bit of a boost from the Phillies scratching Jesus Luzardo with long-running shoulder soreness.
Tyler Mahle cruised through the first two hitters before Bryce Harper hit a monster homer and took a comical amount of time rounding the bases, clearly hitting back at the controversy from Zach Wheeler's comments about Ronald Acuna's home run celebrations last week. The Phillies had to be feeling good with a 1-0 lead for a couple innings there, until the Braves essentially ended the game with 8 runs in the fourth inning. Ronald Acuna kicked things off with a towering homer (and a normal home run trot).
La Bestia mode activated 🔥#LocalFordDealer | ronaldacunajr24 pic.twitter.com/blKPAhoG0w
The Braves then got a walk, single, single, single, error, wild pitch, walk, double, and single to score another 7 runs. Drake Baldwin provided the double before things got all the way back around to Acuna for the last single, bringing home the last run of the inning.
Mahle continued to cruise after that Harper homer, finishing 7.0 innings of 1-run ball with no walks, even though he only had 7 whiffs and 3 strikeouts. The Braves added another run on in the sixth with a Ronald ABS strikeout-turned-walk, an error on an Olson ground ball, and an Ozzie sac fly. The Phillies got one back with a solo homer from Crawford in the eighth against Brent Suter. The Braves got another 3 runs against the position-player pitcher for Philly in the eighth, as Kiersey singled, Albies doubled, and Harris hit a homer off the right field foul pole. Suter finished off the Phillies in the ninth, as the Braves only needed to throw Mahle and Suter on the night. The Phillies' bullpen is in rough shape on the other side, after the 11-inning game Friday and the blowout bullpen game they suffered today.

DE and CAT have surged 47% and 44% YTD respectively, roughly four times the industrial sector's gain, forcing holders to weigh profits against further upside.
PCAR, a comparable industrial name, has gained only 14% YTD alongside XLI, confirming the rally is stock-specific rather than a broad sector re-rating.
Neither stock has flashed a sell signal, and benchmark-driven money chasing year-to-date winners could extend both rallies before the gap narrows.

The dollar index (DXY00) on Friday rose by +0.06%. The dollar found support as a hawkish US CPI report pushed odds of an FOMC rate hike next week up to 88% from 75% on Thursday. Also, the 10-year T-note yield on Friday rose by +0.6 bp, supporting the dollar's interest rate differentials.
Friday's -2.4% decline in oil prices initially caused the 10-year T-note yield to drop, despite the CPI report. However, the CPI report caught up with the T-note market by the end of the day, and the 10-year T-note yield ended slightly higher.

Former Florida State forward Alex Steen suffered a setback in his effort to secure another season of college basketball eligibility, according to Chris Nee of Noles247. Leon County Circuit Court Judge David M. Frank denied Steen's verified emergency motion for a temporary and preliminary injunction on Friday, Sept. 11. Steen is suing the NCAA in an effort to obtain a fifth season of eligibility for the 2026-27 season.
Steen and attorneys representing both sides appeared before Frank for a hearing on Sept. 2. The former Seminole is part of the 2022 high school class and played four consecutive college seasons without redshirting. His lawsuit challenges his exclusion from the NCAA's new eligibility framework that provides five seasons of competition to athletes from the 2023 class and beyond.
Under Florida law, Steen needed to satisfy four requirements to receive a temporary injunction: a substantial likelihood of success on the merits, no adequate remedy at law, irreparable harm without an injunction, and a showing that granting relief would serve the public interest. Frank determined Steen had not met the necessary standard.
The court found Steen's claimed losses involving practices, workouts, team activities, recruiting conversations, and professional evaluation were not supported by sufficient evidence and remained speculative. Frank also wrote that potential lost NIL income could be measured financially and therefore addressed through monetary damages.
Frank additionally determined a temporary injunction would not serve the public interest, reasoning that granting one player another season could affect roster spots, playing time, scholarships, and revenue-sharing allocations for other athletes.

Nike stock has fallen 40% year to date to $37, raising the question of whether it's dead money or set for a category-driven bounce.
On Holding is down 41% and Lululemon down 53% year to date, signaling a category-wide selloff rather than a Nike-specific execution failure.
With SPY up 12% and XLY down just 5%, athletic apparel's 40-53% collapse stands out as a sector being systematically repriced.

October WTI crude oil (CLV26) on Friday closed down -2.43 (-2.37%), and October RBOB gasoline (RBV26) closed down -0.0860 (-2.53%).
Oct WTI oil prices on Friday fell back after Thursday's +6.7% rally to a 3.5-month high. Oil prices fell back after the International Energy Agency (IEA) on Friday warned that high oil prices and restricted oil supply will cause the biggest drop in global oil demand this year since the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the projected demand drop, the IEA raised its estimate for this year's global oil deficit to 1.7 million bpd from last month's 1.3 million bpd estimate due to the restricted supply caused by the US-Iran war. The IEA said the return of a global oil surplus will be delayed until 2027, later than its previous estimate of late 2026.

1420 ET – Gold futures hold steady as a pullback in oil prices helps offset the impact of an inflation report that increased expectations for a Fed interest-rate rise next week. Front-month gold settles little changed on the day in New York at $4,366.20 a troy ounce, and is down 1.4% for the week. Gold and silver remain within a range of strong support, says Peter Cardillo of Spartan Capital, and if the Fed does raise interest rates next week “it’s symbolic since the bond market had already tightened.” Silver settles up 0.4% at $64.554 a troy ounce, down 2.3% from a week ago. (anthony.harrupwsj.com)
1306 GMT – Gold prices rebounded after oil prices fell more than 2.5%, easing some inflationary concerns. Futures in New York rise 0.3% to $4,422.40 a troy ounce, but remain on track for a weekly loss. U.S. consumer prices accelerated in August, bolstering market expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates next week. According to the FedWatch tool, traders are now pricing in a nearly 87% probability that the U.S. central bank will raise interest rates next week, from around 67% earlier on Friday. Still, “while the markets appear to be placing their proverbial bets on a hike, it’s likely that members of the FOMC won’t be quite as unequivocal,” says Kyle Rodda from Capital.com. “The doves on the committee, of which there are many, are likely to argue the case that the dip in annual core inflation justifies patience.” (giulia.petroniwsj.com)

Restaurant stock Dave & Buster's Entertainment (PLAY) and healthcare name Kestra Medical Technologies (KMTS) will kick off earnings reports during a week when investors will be squarely focused on the Federal Reserve and a possible interest-rate hike Wednesday. Forgent Power Solutions (FPS) is also on the docket, with its stock trying to recover after a lengthy sell-off.
Friday's stock market rally notwithstanding, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Russell 2000 small-cap index have come under the most pressure amid surging oil prices and spiking bond yields, as investors worry about pesky inflation and escalating tension between the U.S. and Iran.
While the Dow is testing major support near 52,000, the Russell fell below its 50-day moving average in late August and has been below the support level ever since. The Nasdaq composite, meanwhile, bounced off its 50-day line with conviction Friday, helped by a tame report on consumer prices. The S&P 500 also moved off its 50-day line Friday.
Results from Lennar (LEN) are due Wednesday after the close. Lennar stock tried to break out in late June, but was turned away at its 200-day line and went into a downtrend. It tried to clear the 200-day line several times again in August but to no avail. With interest rates on the rise, heavy-volume selling has picked up the pace in recent weeks.
Forgent, which sells electrical distribution equipment to data centers, reports early Tuesday. The company priced its IPO at 27 on Feb. 4, at the midpoint of a proposed range of 25-29.

ETH is enjoying another stretch of relative strength, trading up as much as 7% this morning above $2,600, and still running around +4% on the day at the time of writing.
In this span, ETH outperformed a flat BTC (+0.33%) and warmer majors like SOL, HYPE, and ZEC (which are all roughly +2% over the past 24 hours).
The backdrop: Friday's CPI landed mixed, i.e. a hotter headline number softened by a cooler core reading. Markets seem to have shrugged this result off as already priced in, flipping the mood from Thursday's PPI-driven jitters back toward risk-on.
Secondary driver: This vibe shift led to buy pressure, the buy pressure led to a bounce, and the bounce led to a squeeze. As ETH shorts had become a crowded trade once more, that bounce forced hundreds of millions in liquidations, with one outsized position wipeout on Hyperliquid doing a lot of that damage alone.
What to watch: Traders are now betting the Fed will raise rates at next week's FOMC meeting. Odds jumped to the mid-to-high 80% range after Friday's data, up from around 70% the day before. If that rate hike happens and the Fed signals more are coming, ETH's rallying could stall. Yet if Fed Chair Warsh sounds less aggressive when he speaks afterward, ETH's strength could just as easily keep going.

Consumers just can't catch a break. According to Friday's Consumer Price Index report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), inflation is holding steady as surging gas prices empty shoppers' wallets.
But that's not all. Year-over-year data about household debt paints a dim picture of the state of consumer finances. However, this week's home sales report offers a silver lining, showing it might be a good time to buy a house.
