For around 15 hours, immigration detention officers kept Raúl Suárez Herrero confined in a cage slightly larger than a phone booth, where he feared snakes and endured mosquitoes in the middle of Florida swampland, the former detainee alleged.
Suárez, 59, told José Díaz-Balart in an interview for Noticias Telemundo’s “Ahora 360” that he was forced into the cage, measuring 7 feet, 9 inches high and 4 feet, 3 inches square, for praying out loud for an ill young man at “Alligator Alcatraz,” an ICE detention site.
“I feel like I was in ****** ,” Suárez later told NBC News in a phone interview from Mexico, where he was deported.
Suárez spoke days after a Department of Homeland Security watchdog confirmed the use of the phone booth-sized cages at the now-shuttered Florida detention camp in a Sept. 11 report.
“The use of such restrictive ****** es is highly unconventional and does not align with standards for humane treatment,” the report said.

The Southwest faces a barrage of intense rain this week as rounds of storms are tapping into unusually moisture-rich air being pulled north from Baja California, after flash flooding in New Mexico killed three people early Wednesday.
Officers responded at around 12:30 a.m. local time to a report of three people washed away by flooding near Newcomb, New Mexico, on the Navajo Nation. Police discovered two adults and one juvenile on scene, the Navajo Police Department said in a statement. All three were ****** ounced dead. Since his debut in 2018, Ronald Acuña Jr. has been one of baseball's most exciting players. His power-speed combo has made him one of the sport's best players. In 2019, Acuña fell just short of the elusive 40/40 club. In 156 games, he tallied 41 home runs and 37 stolen bases, which led the National League.
He was on an MVP trajectory in 2021. In 82 games that season, Acuña had a .990 OPS with 24 home runs and 17 stolen bases. Unfortunately, everything changed on July 10 when he tore his ACL attempting to make a leaping catch at the wall down in Miami. During his first three and a half seasons, Acuña was on the fast track to the Hall of Fame. His injury not only slowed that down, but it also raised questions about whether he'd ever be the same again.
The Braves eventually won the World Series, but Acuña was sidelined and could only celebrate from the dugout. Still, though, he received a World Series ring on Opening Day in 2022. He would return to action on April 28 against the Chicago Cubs. However, it was clear that Acuña wasn't the same player. In 119 games, he only hit 15 home runs, and his OPS dropped to .764—the worst mark of his career. It seemed he would never be the same again, but Acuña quieted the doubters with one of the greatest individual seasons in MLB history.
Acuña didn't just make history; the Braves did, too. In 2023, Atlanta finished with the best record in MLB (104-58). That year, they tied the MLB record for home runs in a season (307). Three players, including Acuña (41), hit at least 40 home runs that season. In 2023, MLB also made a slew of rule changes, including making the bases 18 inches. The extra three inches, along with the new pickoff rule, were meant to influence more action on the base paths.
Acuña took full advantage by stealing 73 bases that season. In the process, he became the first, and only, player to hit at least 40 home runs and steal at least 70 bases. Along the way, he also became the first and only player to hit at least 30 home runs and steal at least 60 bases.

The end of the first stage saw a 10-car crash hit pit road as the entire field entered for fresh tires. It began with Rajah Caruth's No. 88 car getting spun out and ended with the road fully clogged and the race on ice.
Caruth, Brandon Jones, Harrison Burton, Dean Thompson, Jeb Burton, Ryan Sieg, Patrick Staropoli, Jeremy Clements, Nicholas Sanchez and Anthony Alfredo were all involved, with some sustaining race-ending damage.

In Auburn's season-opening win against Baylor, it was more like a game of centimeters.

Let's hope he understands that because his attorney's comments Wednesday, Sept. 2, following the plea deal from Woods' latest DUI arrest weren't exactly encouraging. Woods lost his driver's license for five years after pleading no contest to charges of reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
"The ultimate decision was made to bring closure to the case," Woods' attorney Douglas Duncan told TV station WPBF, "and to allow Tiger and his family to move on with their lives."
"Move on with their lives." As if this was a minor fender-bender or a ticket for trespassing rather than the averted catastrophe that it was.
Woods endangered lives with this latest DUI incident, clipping a pickup truck towing a small trailer while trying to overtake it at high speed in his neighborhood. After his SUV flipped, it skidded down the street before coming to a stop within inches of a sidewalk.

The almost Dback Clay Holmes shut this Dbacks offense down for 7 innings. The Dbacks had a deal in place for Holmes per multiple reports but the deal fell through at the last minute due to medicals. The fact that he was almost a Dback made the first 7 innings of this game sting all that much more, especially given the current status of this rotation.
Brandon Pfaadt was pretty good today pitching into the 7th inning tonight and allowing 4 runs while keeping his team within striking distance. The Cubs have the 2nd best offense in the league and Pfaadt did a decent enough job of keeping them in check. His first 3 innings were pretty easy getting lots of soft contact, however he gave up a 3 run HR in the 4th inning on a hanging curveball to Ian Happ. Most importantly however, like I mentioned earlier, he was able to settle back in after the home run and give his team 6.2 innings against a red hot offense.
The Dbacks offense finally woke up in the 8th inning as they were able to finally get on the board with 3 runs due to some linked up at bats with a couple of walks and a huge double from the red hot Gabi Moreno and a single from Geraldo Perdomo. When this offense has been clicking this season, it seems as though it is starting with the bottom of the order getting on base for the top of the order.
The story of the game however was Ryan Waldsschmidt who for the second time this season hit a walkoff home run off of a contending team's closer. This time it came as a pinch hitter with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th with Jose Fernandez pinch running at first base for Tim Tawa. The Dbacks were inches away from losing this game as Jose Fernandez was narrowly able to steal 2nd base and get into scoring position down 4-3. Then Waldschmidt got a hanging slider and did not miss it! What an electric moment and perhaps the biggest swing of the season thus far considering that the Dbacks were able to gain a game on both the Padres and the Phillies tonight on 1 single swing. What a great moment for this team!

There is no room for error when a trip to East Lake is on the line. Some pros are even changing their equipment to find that extra edge. They want a shot at the big trophy in Atlanta.
Sepp Straka faces a difficult climb to reach the Tour Championship. The Austrian golfer has reached this prestigious event in each of the last four seasons. His best result during this stretch was a T7 finish back in 2022. However, his current standing tells a different story. According to GolfWRX, Straka is currently sitting at 39th in the FedExCup rankings. He needs at least a solo 11th place finish at Bellerive to qualify for the next stage. To make this happen, he is changing his setup. He is moving away from the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max. He previously used an 8.5-degree head set at 9.1 degrees. This change comes after a tough year off the tee. Straka ranks 99th in strokes gained from the tee this season. It is his first time losing ground in this category with the Ai Smoke driver in his bag. Now, he is picking up the Srixon ZXi RKT driver. This move is significant for Srixon because Straka rarely alters his gear. The ZXi RKT driver is a relatively new release. Srixon staffer Ryan Fox used it to win the Open Championship recently. Since Brooks Koepka claimed the 2023 PGA Championship using a ZX5 LS Mk II, no Srixon driver had secured a major victory until that win. Straka's new setup includes a 9.0-degree head with an actual loft of 9.5 degrees. He is also using a Fujikura Ventus Blue+ 6x shaft that is tipped one inch. Straka needs to find yards and stability. The ZXi RKT offers a different profile than the Callaway head he just dropped. By adjusting the loft and the shaft, he is trying to stop the bleeding. If he can turn that 99th rank into a positive number, the 11th place finish becomes much more realistic. It is a calculated risk. He is betting his season on a new piece of technology. If the ball stays in play, he stays in the hunt. If it fails, his season ends at Bellerame.

A viral middle school football clip in Tennessee has turned into a juvenile court case, school sanctions and a dispute between two families over what happened before a 16-year-old spectator ran onto the field.
Addison Hunnicutt faces ******* ault and disorderly conduct allegations after entering the field during an Aug. 18 game between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School in Winchester and tackling a 13-year-old South Middle player. Video of the incident spread widely online.
Hunnicutt does not deny running onto the field. She told NewsChannel 5 that she believed the other player was hurting her younger brother and that no one was stopping it.
Her own mother has acknowledged that running onto the field was inappropriate. But Hunnicutt, her family and her attorney argue that the short viral clip begins too late to explain why she acted, while school officials and law enforcement are focused on the fact that a spectator entered the field and struck a middle school player.
The game was being played at Franklin County High School, where South Middle plays its home games. WSMV reported that South Middle scored a touchdown and extra point at about 8 p.m. before two players became involved in a scuffle near the end zone. Video showed referees throwing flags as the players began moving away from the confrontation.

Throughout camp, you have seen a team that is definitely built for a championship run after coming up short last season.
But like all other teams, there are some concerns if you truly are looking to nitpick away at this roster.
After watching the first month of practices and seeing Los Angeles share the field with the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints in joint practices, I walked away with one question: Where will the explosive plays come from early on?
That question becomes even more important with the uncertainty surrounding star wide receiver Puka Nacua. Nacua left the Rams' joint practice against the Cowboys last week with groin soreness. He is also facing the possibility of NFL discipline stemming from an offseason incident. No suspension has been finalized.

HONOLULU (AP) — Communities still recovering from last weekend's hurricane in Hawaii could get pounded again in coming days from another tropical system gaining strength over warm Pacific waters.
Hurricane Lala tore roofs off houses, uprooted trees, covered roads in mud and rocks and left many households without electricity. With thousands of homes and businesses still in the dark Thursday, forecasters warned yet another tropical cyclone is likely to approach the islands soon.
A depression moving west and northwest could become a tropical storm in the coming hours and pass near or south of Hawaii's Big Island over the weekend or early next week, the U.S. Central Pacific Hurricane Center said. That system could dump up to 15 inches (38 centimeters) of rain on the Big Island and trigger life-threatening flooding, mudslides and rip currents, it added.
Forecasters said the disturbance had top sustained winds of 35 mph (55 kph) and was located at midday Thursday about 900 miles (1,445 kilometers) east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii.
"There's definitely tension in the air'' at the thought of more rain in communities that floodwaters turned into rivers, said Tiffany Edwards Hunt, a teacher living in Keaau, on the east side of the Big Island. "There were some areas that were completely washed out."

The Brewers poured it on the Mariners tonight with 22 hits and 22 runs in a game that became a laugher late. But even discounting the nine runs that Milwaukee scored off of a position player, the offense showed real, positive signs against Mariners starter Bryce Miller and a series of ineffective relievers. On the other side of the ball, Kyle Harrison kept the Mariners off the board for five innings and the bullpen kept it going. What resulted was a historic night: the Brewers matched the largest margin of victory in a shutout in the last 126 years.
Brendan Donovan, the first batter against Harrison tonight, smacked a ball to the base of the wall in the right-field gap for a leadoff double. But Harrison locked in, and even with a wild pitch that advanced Donovan to third, Harrison got managed a scoreless inning with a strikeout, a ground ball to second with a drawn-in infield, and another strikeout. (William Contreras, unfortunately, burned a challenge on a 2-0 pitch with two outs that was almost three inches off the plate, putting Milwaukee behind the eight ball early in that respect.)
The Brewers got some good swings on Miller in the bottom of the first. Brice Turang, playing for the first time since last Wednesday, hit a solid line drive to left but it was caught by Randy Arozarena. Jackson Chourio nearly went yard; he hit one 102 mph and 402 feet to center, but Julio Rodríguez caught it on a leap at the wall. It wasn't quite a home run robbery, but it kind of looked like it on TV. Jake Bauers was next, and he ripped a double into the right-field corner, just barely beating out Victor Robles' throw at second. Three pitches later, William Contreras blooped a soft line drive just over shortstop. Bauers looked like dead meat at the plate—Arozarena's throw beat him by a mile—but when Raleigh put a tag on the sliding Bauers, the ball was knocked loose. Bauers hadn't touched the plate and didn't immediately catch that Raleigh didn't have the ball, but he realized in time to just beat the scrambling Mariner catcher back to home plate. Christian Yelich struck out to end the inning but the Brewers had an early lead.

Not when he's constantly studying film and learning from former Iowa State teammate and starting QB Rocco Becht, and his trusted head coach Matt Campbell and offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser.
No matter that the uber-talented redshirt freshman underwent a startling open-heart surgery just five months ago — and appears to be fully recovered and ready for the 2026 season in a couple of weeks, stunningly enough.
His potentially life-altering defect, Manske said, was found during a Penn State-mandated echocardiogram that he and fellow newcomers to the program underwent this past winter. He said he was not aware of any symptoms from his dilated aortic root issue − where the section of the aorta that connects to the heart widens abnormally, increasing the risk of a life-threatening tear or rupture.
