For nearly two decades, Mike Tomlin was the steadying anchor of the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise. But as the team endured years of postseason frustration, former Steelers safety Ryan Clark found himself facing one of the most agonizing moments of his broadcasting career: suggesting on national television that Pittsburgh and Tomlin needed a mutual fresh start.

With the MLB trade deadline approaching, Milwaukee Brewers fans are wondering who may join the Crew, but on this day in 2006 the Brewers made perhaps their most-important free-agent signing of the past 20 years.
Not Mike Cameron or Lorenzo Cain − the Chorizo.
On July 29, 2006, the Brewers added a new runner to the famous in-game sausage race in honor of the team's Latino fanbase. It was Cerveceros day at American Family Field − then Miller Park − back then. Cerveceros is Spanish for beer-maker, aka a Brewer. Chorizo finished third in that first race, which would be its only one of the 2006 season. After its debut, Chorizo was sent down to the minors for "seasoning," according to the Brewers, and returned on opening day 2007.

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England — Their journeys to professional golf couldn't have been more contrasting. Lydia Ko was a child prodigy; Ryan Fox was a late bloomer who didn't turn pro until age 25. Ko rose to fame when, at 14, she became the youngest winner of a tour event and, at 18, became the youngest major winner. Fox was 39 when he won his first major at the British Open two weeks ago.
But they are united by their homeland of New Zealand and by shared experiences in team rooms. Those moments began with pranks at the 2010 World Amateur Teams Championships. These days, the New Zealand bonding sessions play out on a far bigger stage—at the past three Olympic games.
"We went to World Team Ams when I was 14," Ko recalled on Wednesday at the AIG Women's British Open at Royal Lytham. "I don't know if I'm allowed to say it, but he may or may not have tricked me to think my ***** e glass was—I thought it was my ***** e glass—but it was red wine. He's always been the same."

Just 11 days after brilliantly breaking Hicham El Guerrouj's world mile record, which had stood for 27 years, he was back on the track to start his Commonwealth Games campaign at Scotstoun.
The mile has returned to the athletics programme here for the first time in six decades, 72 years after both Roger Bannister and John Landy dipped below four minutes at the old Empire Games in a race dubbed the "Miracle Mile".
By contrast, all 13 qualifiers for Saturday's final have broken that fabled barrier. Wakefield Trinity have signed hooker Mason Teague on a two-year contract ahead of the 2027 season.
Cook Islands international Teague will join from Queensland Cup side Burleigh Bears.
He will replace Tyson Smoothy as the Australian returns home to new NRL side Perth Bears.

The PGA Tour announced Friday night the 141 players who are committed to teeing it up at Detroit Golf Club next week, when the eighth and final Rocket Classic will be played from July 30-Aug. 2.
There were no major changes with the final list of PGA Tour player commitments, from previous announcements, as the field continues to be highlighted by four players inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking, eight in the top 20, 21 in the top 50, and more than half of the top 100. There are 10 major champions. The field is arguably the best in the history of the Rocket Classic, and certainly the best since rival LIV Golf began playing and poaching in 2022.
Headliners include Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka, all playing the Rocket for the first time, as well as world No. 3 Cameron Young, No. 5 Russell Henley, No. 7 Chris Gotterup and No. 9 Wyndham Clark, who won this year's U.S. Open. WEST BEND – Spencer Turtz began the final round of the 125th Wisconsin Amateur Championship on July 23 as a co-leader, and he hoped to feel some nerves on the 18th hole with a chance to claim the state's most prestigious amateur event.
He did, but not until his final full swing into No. 18. The approach found the center of the green, leading to a par for a final round 2-over 73 and a tournament victory at 3-over 287.
"I was pretty happy feeling those little nerves," Turtz said. "It was fun. Fun to compete."
Turtz's playing partner and co-leader Ricky Kuiper [Racine] gave Turtz some breathing room when he double-bogeyed the par 3 17th, which gave Turtz a three-shot lead heading to the last. After finding the fairway with his tee shot, Turtz wanted to know what he needed to do to win.
When caddie and former Badgers teammate Cameron Huss told him to play it safe, and that he could capture the trophy with a two or three-putt, Turtz felt the ******* erflies.

WEST BEND – Spencer Turtz began the final round of the 125th Wisconsin Amateur Championship on July 23 as a co-leader, and he hoped to feel some nerves on the 18th hole with a chance to claim the state's most prestigious amateur event.
He did, but not until his final full swing into No. 18. The approach found the center of the green, leading to a par for a final round 2-over 73 and a tournament victory at 3-over 287.

"From what I'm told, he won't be expected back until late in the season, potentially," he stated of Ekwonu.
Ekwonu is still recovering from the tear of his patellar tendon from January's wild-card round loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Panthers, while seemingly encouraged by the former first-round pick's progress, have not publicly disclosed a timeline for his return.

The USA international suffered a nasty and unfortunate Achilles injury in the Europa League last season against Austrian side Sturm Graz. That situation was just one in a long list of unforseen issues that dogged our campaign throughout the duration of the season and in a variety of ways.
There was major unrest and discord within the fanbase last term surrounding the club’s hierarchy and the inner machinations of how Celtic is currently being run. That, added to the mistreatment of supporters in a number of ways from the same boardroom members contrived to curtail our Scottish Premiership ***** le charge.

Things thankfully managed to get back on course for us to win the ***** le under Martin O’Neill’s incredible guidance and Cameron Carter-Vickers will be aiming to feature more this forthcoming season, after missing out on so much football last term.

The top priority for new Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy was to come in and improve a struggling offense. The jury is still out as to whether or not this happened based on our offensive grades but we do feel like the Steelers defense is ready to take the next step under new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.
Here are our grades for the Steelers defensive positional units heading into training camp next week.
Even if Cameron Heyward is trending down in his career, he's still an excellent player. You pair him up with young star Derrick Harmon and they have the best pair of 3-4 defensive ends in the AFC. This unit would get an A if we had more confidence in a consistent season from nose tackle Keeanu Benton but the depth of Yahya Black and Sebastian Joseph-Day keeps this grade up.
The trio of T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig are the best trio of edge defenders in the NFL. Bar none. It's just a matter of getting them all of the field. All the focus is on them but Jack Sawyer is a great No. 4 edge.
This group is untapped potential and overrated salaries. Patrick Queen hasn't lived up to his contract, Payton Wilson is still a work in progress and no one else on the depth chart really matters.

On the heels of a loaded NBA Draft, there was heightened interest in this year's Summer League.
It didn't disappoint. Some of the top names from June's draft put up tantalizing performances in Las Vegas, and the NBA honored them Tuesday by announcing and MVP and All-Summer League Teams.
Yaxel Lendeborg, who was named MVP of the championship game after leading the Golden State Warriors past Cameron Boozer and the Memphis Grizzlies, earned top honors as MVP of the entire league.
Boozer, who delivered with consistent production throughout, was named to the All-Summer League first team. As was his former ACC rival and Chicago Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson, who generate the most buzz in Las Vegas with his high-flying dunks and improved 3-point shooting.
Milwaukee Bucks guard Brayden Burries and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Meleek Thomas joined Lendeborg, Boozer and Wilson on the first team.
