Longtime Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) CEO Tim Cook will host his final earnings conference call after the bell on Thursday, July 30. While Cook was not the same type of innovator as his predecessor, Apple founder and legendary CEO Steve Jobs, he did a great job of nurturing Apple's core strengths. He will leave as Apple is the largest company in the world, with a market cap of $5 trillion. The question, though, is whether the stock is still a buy with him ready to depart.

When Apple reports its fiscal third-quarter results, investors should expect much of the same. iPhone sales should be solid, with the company reportedly seeing a 3% increase in shipments during the quarter and gaining its highest-ever global market share at 20%, according to Centerpoint Research. This should then feed into its high-margin service revenue, which has consistently grown at a mid-teen rate.
Cook leaves Apple as having one of the best business models on the planet, making it easy for its next CEO to get off to a running start. The beauty of Apple is its closed ecosystem, which helps lock in customers. Once someone buys an iPhone, the cost of switching becomes increasingly difficult with each photo taken, subscription bought, and app downloaded. Users then become a part of Apple's huge service revenue machine. Apple is getting a high-margin revenue stream every time someone clicks on a search ad (as it gets a 36% revenue cut from Alphabet's Google), uses Apple Pay, buys cloud storage, or purchases a subscription or app.
Meanwhile, Apple just increased prices for several devices and certain service plans. This should be a nice revenue driver in the coming quarters after Cook leaves, giving incoming CEO John Ternus a solid revenue tailwind as he takes the reins. Ternus will also have time to execute a more comprehensive AI strategy for the company. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Cook's decision to sit back and not throw huge amounts of money into chasing AI models proves to be a smart one.

Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) jumped recently after posting earnings. Profit beat estimates and rose year over year, but revenue missed estimates.
The stock still trades at a discount to peers, under 9.5 times forward earnings versus roughly 13x for the group. The question is whether that discount is a gift or a warning sign.
Verizon just posted a strong quarter for postpaid phone net additions in five years, beating ****** yst expectations by a wide margin. Broadband adds stayed strong across fixed wireless and fiber. Adjusted EBITDA hit a record, up 7.2%, pushing margins to an all-time high above 40%.
Management raised full-year guidance for the second straight quarter. EPS growth is now guided to 6-7%, and free cash flow growth guidance got ****** ped to 9-10% from 7% previously. That's a meaningful acceleration from the low single-digit free cash flow growth Verizon posted the last few years.
The dividend looks safe. Free cash flow payout ratio sits under half of what the company generates, and the roughly 6% yield comes with a multi-year streak of annual hikes. Buybacks add another layer of shareholder return: the company is already ahead of pace for the year, and management just raised the full-year target further.

LONDON, July 29 (Reuters) - Apple said on Wednesday that proposed UK rules governing its App Store would amount to price regulation, arguing that plans to loosen its control over in-app payments could undermine innovation and investment.
In a submission to Britain's Competition and Markets Authority, the iPhone maker said proposed "steering" requirements would go beyond promoting competition and give the regulator a "highly intrusive" role in managing its business.
The CMA's consultation, which closed on Monday, is part of its efforts to boost competition and consumer choice. Its proposed measures would allow app developers to direct users to payment options outside Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store and require any fees charged for such steering to be fair and reasonable.
A CMA spokesperson rejected Apple's characterisation of the proposals as price regulation.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was originally reported to have not been at fault in his car crash earlier this month, but quickly told reporters he had caused the crash because he was reaching for his dropped cell phone.
That left an awkward question: If Shanahan was indeed at fault for the crash, why wasn't he cited by police in the aftermath of the crash?
A report from ESPN provided the answer on Thursday, with Palo Alto Police saying via statement that the citation decision came down to officer discretion and denying it was due to any sort of favoritism for the local NFL teams' head coach. They also said the other driver initially being labeled at fault in their database was due to an error.
From ESPN:
In a statement to ESPN, a police spokesperson said the attribution of fault to the other driver was the result of "a clerical error." And the responding officer exercised his discretion when determining whether to cite Shanahan.

July 29 (Reuters) - Apple's decision to hold iPhone prices steady is set to power its strongest June-quarter sales growth in five years, but investors will want to know how long it can resist an increase.
The consumer electronics giant raised iPad and MacBook prices last month as it sought to offset cost increases from a shortage of memory and storage chips caused by massive AI datacenter buildouts.
But the company spared its cash cow, iPhones, even as rival smartphone makers were forced to pass on the higher costs that prompted a decline in global smartphone shipments in the April-June quarter, to the lowest in 13 years.
Apple's decision paid off: iPhone shipments rose 3% and the company's market share climbed to nearly a fifth, estimated research firm Counterpoint.

Microsoft (MSFT) stock rocketed 14% higher on Thursday after posting better-than-anticipated earnings results powered by strong growth in its Copilot and Azure offerings. The company also tamed its spending a hair, saying it is extending the useful life of some data centers and offices, helping to move that spending out of capex.
It's a different story for Meta (META), though. Shares of the social media giant fell more than 9% in early trading as the company failed to provide spending guidance for 2027 and its cash pile dwindled.
Qualcomm (QCOM) stock also slid despite beating expectations on revenue for the quarter, as slowing smartphone sales bit into its outlook.
Up next, Amazon (AMZN) and Apple (AAPL) will report their results after the bell today, as investors look for more insights into Amazon's spending and the impact of the memory shortage on Apple's bottom line.
Microsoft (MSFT) surged more than 15% in early trading on Thursday.

Maxence Lacroix says he has joined "the best club in the world" after completing his move to Chelsea from Crystal Palace.
The 26-year-old has signed a deal until 2032, with Chelsea paying a fee of around £52m to sign the Frenchman.
"I think it's the best move for me because it's the best club in the world," Lacroix said.
"I spoke with Malo. I spoke with Trev [Chalobah]. I spoke with Benoit [Badiashile]. It's easy for people to speak well about this club because it has a lot of big history and I'm really proud to be a part of it now.
"I spoke with the manager on the phone. We spoke about tactics, we spoke about how he sees the game. First of all, I was happy just to speak about football with him, and I saw that we have the same direction and desire for this club.

Apple is due to report earnings Thursday afternoon, with options pricing suggesting traders see its stock swinging up to about 4% by the end of the week.
Thursday's report will be Apple's last with Tim Cook as CEO, with John Ternus set to take over the top job in September.
Apple is set to report earnings after the closing bell Thursday, with traders expecting the iPhone maker's stock could extend its record-setting rally following the results.
Based on current options pricing, Apple (AAPL) shares are seen swinging up to about 4% in either direction by the end of the week. A move of that size from Tuesday's close could send the stock up to a new record above $352, or back below $328, giving up some of its recent gains.
After overtaking Nvidia (NVDA) as the world's most valuable company and watching its market capitalization briefly cross the $5 trillion threshold, Apple saw its shares finish Tuesday's session 1% higher at a closing record of $340. The iPhone maker's stock has added one-quarter of its value this year amid optimism around strong iPhone sales and anticipated advances under new CEO John Ternus, who's set to take the helm from Tim Cook in September.

O'Keeffe Stevens Advisory, an investment advisory firm, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. During Q2 2026, the market experienced notable dispersion between perceived AI losers and winners. The firm has made investments early in AI infrastructure companies, which yielded gains during market repricing. The second quarter experienced strong equity rallies, with the S&P 500 gaining 15.2% and the Nasdaq 21.4%, marking the best quarter since Q2 2020. While the software sector faced challenges, with the iShares Software ETF dropping ~27% before a rally, reflecting high volatility. This volatility is seen as an opportunity, despite the potential for 'dead money' in underperforming stocks. The firm remains cautious, focuses on owning durable businesses at reasonable prices, holding cash, and hedging risks to navigate unpredictability. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, O'Keeffe Stevens Advisory highlighted QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM). QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) is a semiconductor and communication technology company focusing on the development and commercialization of foundational technologies for the wireless industry. On July 27, 2026, QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) closed at $170.04 per share. One-month return of QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) was -7.98%, and its shares gained 4.91% over the past 52 weeks. QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) has a market capitalization of $179.22 billion.
O'Keeffe Stevens Advisory stated the following regarding QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) and Corning both appreciated materially in Q2. We trimmed both positions using a combination of options and stock sales.
Qualcomm faced a long-standing structural challenge: customer concentration in Apple, which is internally developing its own modem and transitioning away from Qualcomm silicon. Qualcomm hosted an investor day in June, with all eyes focused on their AI and datacenter strategy. Qualcomm has long been seen as a loser in AI stemming from higher memory prices driving down phone demand, and in turn QCOM's handset business. Qualcomm's diversiQcation strategy continues to play out. At the investor day, Qualcomm doubled its Qscal 2029 non-handset revenue goal to $40 billion, liVed its automotive revenue target to $10 billion, and struck a deal with Meta to supply data center CPUs for AI infrastructure, with production of its Dragonby C1000 slated for 2028. We trimmed due to the position becoming oversized in the portfolio, and risk/reward was no longer as attractive."

Apple (AAPL) on Tuesday briefly became the second publicly traded company in history to hit a market capitalization of $5 trillion.
The tech giant hit the milestone less than a year after topping $4 trillion in October 2025.
Apple stock is up roughly 24% year to date and nearly 60% over the past 12 months, driven by strong iPhone sales.
Investors have criticized Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple over the past few years, concerned that the company was too far behind in the AI race. While Apple initially debuted its Apple Intelligence platform in 2024, it delayed key parts of the software, including an upgraded version of Siri.
That led to executive shakeups at the company. Apple eventually signed a deal to use Google's (GOOG, GOOGL) Gemini AI models to power the voice ***** istant.

The markets always consist of differing views on companies — no single person has perfect information.
This rings home as KeyBanc Capital Markets sounded a bearish call on Apple's (AAPL) ahead of its earnings report this Thursday.
Quick insight: KeyBanc ****** yst Brandon Nispel reiterated an Underweight rating, or Sell, on Apple stock today. With a $250 price target, he expects Apple stock to plunge about 26% from current levels.
"With Apple providing a safe haven to the sell-off in semis, we think they are missing the bigger picture, which squarely fits our thesis: as Apple raises iPhone prices, unit growth will slow, and as unit growth slows, so will user growth, which we think ultimately will slow Services growth," Nispel said in a note.
"In addition, with Apple trading at ~34x P/E, and a growth profile that is shifting from volume-led growth to pricing-led growth, we think investors should apply a lower valuation multiple. To us, this makes Apple overvalued at current levels," he explained.

Victoria Montano reportedly described a frightening experience at a Sydney cinema after an alleged confrontation. The Real Housewives of Sydney star claimed a man threatened to fight her and her husband. The incident reportedly happened while the couple watched a movie in Newtown.
Montano reportedly took to Instagram Stories to explain what happened during the movie outing. She claimed she looked at her phone during the advertisements when the confrontation began. "Someone threatened to fight with us," she said while describing the encounter.
According to Nine, the reality star then joked about her ability to defend herself during the alleged confrontation. "Lucky I've got a good fly kick because Tim didn't want to fight," Montano said. She also claimed the man eventually left the cinema because he was "scared" of her.
Montano later filmed her husband, Timothy Odillo Maher, walking through Newtown toward their car. She asked him whether he had been worried about potentially having to fight. "I was worried I was going to have to step in," he reportedly replied.
Montano continued joking about the incident while speaking to her followers. She demonstrated her supposed "fly kick" for the camera during the Instagram Stories update. However, the alleged encounter reportedly left her uncomfortable enough to change her plans.

Chipmaker Qualcomm (QCOM) will report its third quarter earnings on Wednesday, giving investors a closer look at the impact the global memory shortage is having on smartphone sales and the status of the company's upcoming data center segment.
Qualcomm is working to diversify its business to reduce its dependence on its handset business, which has slowed over the years, as customers hold on to their phones for longer before upgrading.
And with smartphone makers increasing prices to offset the rising cost of memory and storage chips caused by the global AI build-out, the handset market is looking rough.
"The smartphone industry is not great," Bernstein ***** yst Stacy Rasgon told Yahoo Finance's Julie Hyman on Wednesday.
"Memory prices are going up, and AI is sort of sucking up a lot of the supply. And so it's just not leaving a lot for the smartphone players. And we're seeing unit growth has gone negative," he added.

Apple said the App Store facilitated more than £46.5 billion ($61.8 billion) in UK billings and sales in 2025, with commissions accounting for less than 3.5% of the total. It added that there was no evidence changes to its payment model would lower prices for consumers.

July 29 (Reuters) - The top U.S. commander for the Middle East has warned troops that cellphone videos shared online can help Iran target American bases, and sources told Reuters some deployed personnel could soon be ordered to surrender their phones.
Any crackdown on mobile communications would add a new dimension to the conflict for the thousands of U.S. troops in the region, many of whom still rely on phones to periodically message loved ones and **** ure them they are well.
Admiral Brad Cooper, in a previously unreported letter, said Iran was benefiting from being able to see the success or failure of its strikes in near real-time by searching news reports or online posts by journalists referencing "reactions, photos, and footage from the cellphones of our troops."
"The direct, unavoidable cost of this open-source intelligence could be measured in the lives of American service members and civilian residents in targeted Gulf countries," Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, wrote in his July 28 letter, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters.

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England — Their journeys to professional golf couldn't have been more contrasting. Lydia Ko was a child prodigy; Ryan Fox was a late bloomer who didn't turn pro until age 25. Ko rose to fame when, at 14, she became the youngest winner of a tour event and, at 18, became the youngest major winner. Fox was 39 when he won his first major at the British Open two weeks ago.
But they are united by their homeland of New Zealand and by shared experiences in team rooms. Those moments began with pranks at the 2010 World Amateur Teams Championships. These days, the New Zealand bonding sessions play out on a far bigger stage—at the past three Olympic games.
"We went to World Team Ams when I was 14," Ko recalled on Wednesday at the AIG Women's British Open at Royal Lytham. "I don't know if I'm allowed to say it, but he may or may not have tricked me to think my ***** e glass was—I thought it was my ***** e glass—but it was red wine. He's always been the same."
Which is why, two weeks ago, Ko was in tears watching from the U.S. as Fox took the British Open by the scruff of the neck with weekend rounds of 62-68 at Royal Birkdale. Fox stole the claret jug from clubhouse leader Cameron Young with three-under performance in his final six holes, including a walk-off birdie on the 72nd to win by one.
"I was on the West Coast in the U.S. so there was quite a bit of time difference," Ko said Wednesday. "I went to go work out and everywhere I went I was like, 'Please turn on the Open.' It ended up not working on the TV, so I had my trainer turn it on my cell phone and I [also] had it on my cell phone. I can't remember my work out at all."

Ed Orgeron has never been the kind of coach who disappears quietly. These days, the former LSU national championship coach is spending part of his offseason doing something few expected. But did you ever imagine him reading out fantasy football draft orders for fans on Cameo? Well…
"What's up guys, it's Coach O. Soon-to-be football season. I know we can't wait," Ed Orgeron opened his video with his familiar gravelly growl.
Another clip has him rattling off league names with the same intensity he once had for SEC Saturdays: "Check out these leagues. Jambalaya, Hush Puppies, Po' Boys, Gumbo."
In another clip, Orgeron jokingly predicts, "The old lady, Queen Kelsey, will beat you in fantasy football this year."
These days, Coach O isn't barking into a headset in front of 100,000 people. He's talking straight into a phone camera instead. Birthdays. Fantasy football leagues. Random shoutouts. Fans pay for the videos on Cameo, and lately those fantasy draft-order clips have been making the rounds again. Turns out that gravelly voice still grabs attention.

Lets's call him INTREPID. My guy in the gym in the Bahamas.
That was the code name for the head of British Intelligence in the Caribbean during WWII.

Initial reports about San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan claimed he was not at fault for the car crash that occurred on July 14.
According to the California Crash Reporting System database — Case ID 5249308 — Shanahan was allegedly holding and using his cell phone prior to the crash. Still, Shanahan was not considered at fault. It was determined that the 21-year-old woman driving made an unsafe turn, which resulted in the crash. Both airbags were deployed.
The state of California prohibits holding and operating a cell phone while driving, according to Vehicle Code 23123.5(a), but Shanahan was not cited.
Chris Simms said he received pictures from Kyle's wife, Mandy. Simms said, "He was this close to maybe losing his right eye. The scar is so big right here. And he's still battling with this concussion. He's healing. His face looks a whole lot better, but this concussion, of course, being part of that kind of accident, is lingering, and it's giving him issues."
Here's more from Simms, via PFT live on Monday:
