Twins news: Byron Buxton provides 2027 availability update ahead of hip surgery appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
With the Minnesota Twins beginning to fall out of the playoff race, star outfielder Byron Buxton will undergo hip surgery next Friday, Aaron Gleeman reports. The expectation was that Buxton was going to receive the surgery at some point, but he wanted to wait and help the Twins compete for the postseason. With Buxton getting the surgery soon, he is hoping to be ready for 2027 spring training.
"Byron Buxton said the hope is that he'll be ready for spring training," Gleeman reports.
There is a chance of an MLB lockout as well. That would obviously be far from ideal for MLB, but it would give Buxton even more time to recover from his hip surgery. However, the outfielder is seemingly hoping to be ready for the currently scheduled spring training.

Texas A&M made quite the statement in Week 1 of the 2026 college football season, shutting out Missouri State 50-0 thanks to an elite defensive effort, limiting the Bears to a pedestrian 67 total yards, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed was highly impressive, completing 20/31 for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns
This game was simply a tune-up before the Aggies embark on their first nine-game SEC schedule, which includes a brutal road stretch in the second half of the season. However, Texas A&M will host Arizona State for an early Saturday afternoon kickoff, one day after the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
Last Saturday, Arizona State defeated Morgan State 70-7 behind former Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley, who threw for a career-high and program-record 387 yards and 6 touchdowns, which, no matter the opponent, is extremely impressive. During his final season with the Wildcats, Boley wasn't highly regarded as a passer, but he always had the potential to improve.
While three Arizona State wide receivers recorded over 100 yards, transfer WR Omarion Miller looks like the biggest threat to the Aggie secondary after reeling in 8 receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown, looking like the Sun Devils' No. 1 receiver. Texas A&M never faced Boley during his time at Kentucky, but you can be sure Mike Elko and DC Lyle Hemphill are well aware of his breakout performance.
While Boley's improved accuracy and touch were impressive, several of his touchdown passes were off short passes or screens, while Morgan State's secondary was, well, very, very bad. Facing Texas A&M's deep cornerback and safety rotation will be his biggest challenge yet while playing inside what should be a near-sold-out Kyle Field.

Ruben Amorim admits Milan 'didn't deserve to win, or more like Juventus didn't deserve to lose' after their 1-1 draw in Turin. 'We need to move more and be braver.'
The Rossoneri had struggled to create any genuine scoring opportunities in Turin and thanked first Mike Maignan, then the frame of the goal for keeping out Francisco Conceicao.
TURIN, ITALY – SEPTEMBER 06: Luka Modric of Milan is challenged by Teun Koopmeiners of Juventus during the Serie A match between Juventus and AC Milan at Allianz Stadium on September 06, 2026 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images)
Substitute Alphadjo Cisse gave them the lead somewhat against the run of play with a well-taken angled drive through Pierre Kalulu's legs, but in stoppages Federico Gatti nodded in the Teun Koopmeiners cross for the late equaliser.
It means both Milan and Juventus lose their 100 per cent start to the Serie A season, dropping points in this head-to-head.

There will be no away supporters for Celtic and Rangers derbies in the Scottish Premiership or Premier Sports Cup this season.
The "temporary arrangement" was reached following talks between the Glasgow clubs and the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).
It follows the Scottish FA's independent review into the events surrounding last term's Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox, which was marred by unrest and pitch incursions from both sets of fans.
Rangers host Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup on 13 September 13, with the city rivals meeting at Celtic Park in the league a week later.
More to follow.

On September 2, 2026, Tiger Woods arrived at his court date with girlfriend Vanessa Trump accompanying him, according to People. As part of a deal with the state, he pleaded no contest in response to a reckless driving charge from a March 27 incident.
The golfer had originally pleaded not guilty to charges of careless driving and DUI damage. Then the judge, Darren Steele, noted that the state amended the charges, according to Fox News, to two lesser charges that each carry a five-year license suspension with the two suspensions running concurrently.
Golf Channel provided a copy of the statement originally released by the Martin County Sheriff's Department from March 27. The report noted how the driver of a black Land Rover named Eldrick T. Woods struck a white Ford F-150, flipping the black vehicle over on its side. The driver told Deputy G. Brenovil that he was looking down at a cell phone when the other vehicle slowed down, leading to the collision.
The truck struck in the accident sustained $5,000 in damage. Neither driver received injuries.
When the golfer came out of his vehicle from the passenger door after the March crash, officers noted that he appeared alert. However, his eyes were glassy, he was profusely sweating, and he moved slowly.

Hull City have signed midfielder Tim Iroegbunam from Everton in a £22m deal and secured a loan agreement with option to buy for Robinio Vaz from Roma.
Iroegbunam, 23, leaves the Toffees after two years at the club for an initial £13m, although the fee could rise by a further £9m with add-ons, and has signed a five-year deal with The Tigers.
Roma have confirmed France Under-20 international Vaz, 19, has also joined the Premier League club on deadline day to further bolster their attack.
The Tigers have also secured forward Ilyas Ansah from Union Berlin and agreed a £12m deal for Genoa right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy.
English full-back Cody Drameh, who has featured in all three of Hull's games this season, is heading in the opposite direction to Norton-Cuffy - with Genoa set to pay £3.4m.

Alonso sprang a surprise by naming Martinez in the starting line-up - less than four hours after his £7.5m move was confirmed by the club.
It is a lifeline for Martinez, who turns 34 next week and fell out of favour at Aston Villa following a failed move to Juventus and the arrival of **** an's Zion Suzuki as Unai Emery's first-choice keeper.
The World Cup winner's every catch was cheered on by the Stamford Bridge faithful during an **** ured display in goal, though he was unlucky to concede two of Brighton's three goals, his save landing on the feet of Yalcouye for the opener and then getting undone by Joao Pedro's own goal.
His best moment came just before Brighton's second when he made a sharp diving save from Diego Gomez and he also denied Olivier Boscagli and Brighton a third, which would have levelled the score.
Chelsea have spent heavily across the pitch under their new ownership, but for many, a reliable goalkeeper was the missing piece.

Yankees' Aaron Boone gets questionable job status update amid hot-seat rumor originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Yankees have had Aaron Boone as their manager for nine seasons. While they've been a good team for most of those seasons, including a World Series appearance in 2024, they've not won a ***** le since his hiring.
For a storied franchise like the Yankees, this current drought without a ***** le since 2009 is a notable stretch without another World Series championship. Boone is trying to fix that this season. But what if the Yankees are bounced in the postseason again?
Karl Rasmussen of Sports Illustrated shared a hot-seat rumor about Boone that revealed the Yankees and Brian Cashman could finally run out of patience and move on from Boone if the 2026 season result isn't good enough.
"He's been given a long leash by Brian Cashman and the rest of the front office, but patience may run out if the Yankees don't make a deep postseason run this year," Rasmussen writes.

Kevin Durant has reportedly already earned more than his 2026-27 salary with the Rockets, a little less than two months before the regular season kicks off.
According to Joe Pompliano, the renowned Sports and Business journalist, Kevin Durant's investment in Hugging Face has earned him a profit of approximately $60 million after Nvidia's recent acquisition of the business.
"Kevin Durant and his business partner, Rich Kleiman, invested in Hugging Face's seed & Series A fundraising rounds. Nvidia just acquired the company for $12.9 billion, and since I'm told Durant invested $100,000 in the seed round and $150,000 in the Series A, he likely made more than $60 million on this investment alone," Pompliano wrote on X.
"That is one of the best athlete investments ever (and more money than Durant will make playing in the NBA this season)," he further added.
Kevin Durant is set to earn $43.9 million for the 2026-27 NBA season with the Rockets. This investment has already yielded him more than that.

NEW YORK (AP) — Cody Bellinger hit a go-ahead double with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and the New York Yankees pulled away for a 9-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday night.
Bellinger snapped a 3-all tie when he drove a 1-1 fastball from Bennett Sousa (1-3) off the top of the center-field fence to score Trent Grisham and Ben Rice. The clutch swing came after Luis García Jr. reached on an infield single when Sousa didn't cover first base in time on a grounder to the right side.
Spencer Jones added an RBI single in the seventh and Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a run-scoring double. Chisholm singled twice and finished with his third three-hit game this season.
Rice launched his 35th homer in the first inning and García tacked on a two-run shot in the eighth. García had three more hits after going 4 for 5 in Tuesday night's defeat.
Rice's homer pulled him within one of Houston slugger Yordan Alvarez for the American League lead and marked the first time in 24 games the Yankees scored in an opening inning.

The beginning of the Premier League season has come fast at Liverpool, and it seems that the Reds are simply not prepared for the onslaught of games.
After the loss of Mo Salah at the end of last season and the switch of managers to Andoni Iraola, necessary reinforcements have yet to arrive.
At the very least, Liverpool require another attacker. Rio Ngumoha and new signing Victor Munoz are both predominantly left-side options, Cody Gakpo is consistently linked with a move away, and Hugo Ekitike is out until at least December after rupturing his Achilles earlier this year.
Bradley Barcola seems to be the biggest name consistently linked to Liverpool as their attacking reinforcement for the year. The France international is 23 years old, left-footed, and naturally a left winger but capable on the right too.

Alex Brundle believes Lewis Hamilton was fully justified in venting his frustration over team radio during the Dutch Grand Prix.
The seven-time champion narrowly missed out on a podium at Zandvoort, taking the chequered flag in fourth place behind race winner Lando Norris and the Mercedes pair of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.
Hamilton was clearly frustrated throughout the race with various tense radio messages. While reviewing the race on F1 TV, Brundle defended Hamilton's outburst when the pitwall asked which tyre compound he wanted to change to.
"That would upset me from inside the car as well because you're looking at the team asking you which tyre you want to be put on," Brundle explained. "They've already seen a stint on the medium compound from Charles Leclerc. They're sitting there with all of the data, and effectively you've got an engineer on the pitwall hedging their bets based around what the driver is going to say.
"Of course Lewis has sat in the briefings. Lewis has felt the tyres. He's the only person sitting in the car. But I think his response there actually came amid a slightly turbulent day where he did sound slightly upset over the radio in general.

Welcome home, Tarik Skubal.
The Detroit Tigers are scheduled to face Skubal, their former ace, next weekend when the Los Angeles Dodgers visit Comerica Park on Aug. 28-30.
The left-hander, who on Saturday night made his fourth start for the Dodgers, was traded from the Tigers late on Aug. 1, a little under 48 hours before the MLB trade deadline.
Skubal, the reigning two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, is in line to start next Saturday in the middle matchup of the three-game series at 1:10 p.m. opposite Tigers right-hander Drew Anderson.
Skubal is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA for the Dodgers over 24 innings. He gave up three runs to Pittsburgh in the first inning Saturday, Aug. 22, in Los Angeles, then shut the Pirates down the rest of the way over seven innings with 11 strikeouts to one walk and five hits (106 pitches). The Dodgers backed him with four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to give him his first victory in the National League.

ZANDVOORT, Netherlands (AP) — George Russell is back at the front of Formula 1 with a new driving style and nothing to lose.
Russell started the second half of the season with a sprint race win and second place in qualifying on Saturday. He said he'd used the mid-season break to learn from the techniques that have taken his Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli to the top of the standings, and shed stress along the way.
"After the break I just feel way more relaxed. I don't think I've got anything to lose," Russell said. "I'm just going to go out, enjoy it, and I don't even really feel in a fight. It's not mine to lose, it's mine to gain."
In nearly a month since the last race in Hungary, Russell got engaged — he joked Friday that he's faster for no longer carrying the ring around — and he took inspiration not just from Antonelli, who he said was doing an "amazing job" with the 2026 car and tires, but from the world of golf.
"If you change your golf swing you'll probably take half a step back first before making those improvements. I think the break just allowed me to put those learnings into the back of my mind, come here this weekend, not fixating on what I want to try and achieve with the car and the tires but knowing it," he said.

In Trent Dilfer's coaching return to Lipscomb Academy and TSSAA football, the Mustangs were inches short of a season opening upset.
McCallie's defense stopped Lipscomb Academy at the goal line on 4th and goal to preserve a 27-24 overtime victory on Aug. 21 in Chattanooga.
Lipscomb Academy twice appeared close to scoring on the overtime possession but were denied. On third and goal, Turner White carried inside the 1-yard line but was ruled short. Duke commit Mikel Stephens was stopped inches short on a fourth and goal carry in the game's final play.
And while the Mustangs will drive back up Interstate-24 with a 0-1 record, it was a huge effort against a Division II-AAA power in Dilfer's return after three seasons at UAB.
The Mustangs led 17-7 in the second quarter after a 78-yard touchdown catch by Jaxon Spencer via a reverse pass. But the Blue Tornado slowly chipped away at the deficit.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (KCAU) - Central Lyon/George-Little Rock is coming off a 2-6 record last season, but don't let that record fool you as the Lions come into 2026 with plenty of belief.
CL/'G-LR is coming off its first sub .500 season since 2017, but ended the year with two consecutive victories.
The Lions have been rebuilding with youth the last couple of seasons, with many taking big steps last year inclduing quarterback Jayden Daale and running back Michelet Sedam.
The team played in many close games last season and finished 1-4 in one-score games, putting an emphasis on the details.
"We've got to make those plays. It comes down to that one big play a game, and we just come up short. But not this year. We're going to make sure we get them big plays that go our way," Daale said.

It's been exciting to start talking Death Leagues this week. On Monday, I gave you some players to target in the Death League format. Today, we'll talk about players to fade in Death Leagues.
Create a private Death League or join a public one for the 2026 NFL season
The New Orleans rookie has been the talk of camp, a quick study who looked poised to make an immediate impact. Unfortunately, the story hit a snag last week, when Tyson suffered a hamstring injury. He's expected to miss about two months.
Injured players are auto-avoids in a Death League. We need to worry about elimination immediately! And even when Tyson comes back, it might take a few weeks before he's asked to handle a full workload. Shrewd Death League managers don't dare dream about October and November things, we have more pressing concerns.

The Williams sisters were back together again on Monday night in Cincinnati.
Things just didn't go that well on the court.
Venus and Serena Williams reunited to play in their first official doubles match together since 2022 at the Cincinnati Open on Monday. But Cincinnati native Peyton Stearns and partner Marta Kostyuk picked up a 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 win to end the Williams sisters' run before it could even begin.
Kostyuk and Stearns rolled to an easy win in the first set, and looked well on their way to knocking off the Williams sisters in straight sets early. But Venus and Serena stormed back to pick up a dominant 6-1 win and force a deciding set.
But that was all the Williams' could manage to slow Stearns and Kostyuk down. The duo won six straight points in the tiebreaker to get things started, and then held on to secure the win after the Williams' pushed things back to 8-7 briefly.

Today marks Dave Lemanczyk's 76th birthday.
Dave was a starting pitcher for the Blue Jays during their inaugural season. He started the second game in franchise history, recording the team's first-ever loss.
He was a solid pitcher, selected from the Detroit Tigers in the Expansion Draft. The draft itself was something of a sucker's bet; expansion teams got to choose from players the established clubs didn't want. While we did get Jim Clancy, Ernie Whitt, Rico Carty, and Pete Vuckovich (who would later win a Cy Young, though not as a Jay), most of our selections were cast-offs.
Lemanczyk enjoyed a strong year, setting career highs in wins, starts, and innings pitched. He threw 252 innings, completed 11 games, won 13, lost 16, and posted a 4.25 ERA, leading the team in victories.
Dave was our Opening Day starter in 1978, but he made only 20 starts, finishing with a 4-14 record and a 6.26 ERA. The heavy workload from the previous season had taken its toll on his arm.

Sunday was a busy night for former Commanders. Earlier on Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys signed future Hall of Famer Von Miller to a one-year deal. Miller spent last season with Washington, playing in all 17 games and leading the team with nine sacks.
Also on Sunday night, a player Washington fans will remember fondly also found a new home, as the Las Vegas Raiders signed wide receiver Noah Brown. Brown, 30, spent his first six NFL seasons with the Cowboys before spending the 2023 season with the Houston Texans. He played for the Commanders the last two seasons.
When you think of Brown, two words come to mind: Hail Mary. While injuries marred Brown's two years in Washington, he will forever be remembered for his game-winning touchdown catch from Jayden Daniels on Oct. 27, 2024, to defeat the Chicago Bears. The 52-yard touchdown was named the NFL's Moment of the Year from the 2024 season.
In the 2024 season, Brown played in 11 games, making nine starts, and he caught 35 passes for 453 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, in 2025, Brown appeared in only four games due to injuries and finished with five receptions for 83 yards.
The Commanders allowed Brown and Deebo Samuel to depart this offseason, and re-signed Dyami Brown after a year in Jacksonville, added veteran Van Jefferson, used a third-round pick on Antonio Williams, and earlier this month, signed four-time Pro Bowl wideout Stefon Diggs.
